Disclaimer: I do not own InuYasha and Co.
Summary: "Tell me Higurashi, did you and the mythological Lord have tea together?" Her teacher asked sarcastically. "No professor, The Lord of the Western lands and I never had tea together, although we did spend Christmas together." was her simple reply. S/K

He was not sure why he felt the need to return to the hospital but he did. On his way there, his head began pounding and his nervousness grew. Why was he so tense and uneasy? He would arrive at the hospital and she would be safe—after all, the wolf was watching over her. Yet his agitated and irritable mood continued.

How long would it take her to recover? How would she react? Where did the process of introducing her to the council begin and where did it end? Would it be overwhelming for her? Most importantly, what did she expect now that she was part of the youkai society? As he arrived at the hospital, he let his body relax. He was easily able to sense the miko, and that she was indeed sleeping.

Suddenly his nose twitched at a different scent and his eyes narrowed. There was a scent on her—on her body. Smelling once more, a low growl automatically emerged. Why was the wolf all over her? What did he do? With those questions in his head, he rushed to her room. Slowly opening the door, he stared at the scene that was in front of his eyes.

There in her hospital bed was the miko—deep in sleep. That was not the issue. The issue was with the fact that snuggled right next to her was in the fact the Lord of the East—a lord that was supposed to be watching over her—not laying with the miko in an intimate position. Clearly he had worried about the situation with good reason.

The wolf obviously could not be left unsupervised.

Reluctantly, Sesshoumaru kept quiet. Had the situation been different, a certain wolf would have been thrown across the room. The miko was in the hospital for a serious injury and this was how he watched over her? Who had given him permission to start aspects of the courting ritual with the Miko?

The moment that thought crossed his mind, Sesshoumaru mentally cursed. Was this not what he had yelled at the lords about? Youkai deciding what was best for the Miko? Swallowing his pride, Sesshoumaru decided that had the miko not wanted the comfort—she would have let it be known. However, even that fact did not sit well with him. What could the miko possibly see in the wolf? What could possibly make him worthy?

Trying to contain his anger, Sesshoumaru exited the room. Why was there a rage inside him that called for instant destruction? Better yet, why did he feel like he wanted to kill the wolf? He knew his eyes held hints of red now and that his hands were clenched in frustration. The most confused aspect out of everything was that none of those feelings were directed at the Miko.

Instead, they were all aimed at the wolf.

It had been bad enough when dreams and restless nights occurred because of the Miko but now this? Perhaps it was because he viewed her as pack—and it was nothing more than a protective instinct? However, even he knew that this anger was much different than that of the one that would occur when he was protective of Rin.

It seemed that just like the Miko had defended his honor by standing up for him in front of Shinji and her professor—Sesshoumaru now had the desire to defend hers. Using his youkai speed, he was home within mere minutes. Storming into his bedroom, Sesshoumaru let out the most frustrated growl.

Surely he was not acting out due to possible feelings for the Miko. Yet, the Lord of the Western Lands was not stupid. In fact, he was quite the opposite. It was because he was rational and intelligent that he knew his behavior was because he had grown slightly attached to the Miko. When it had happened he was not quite sure but it was evident none the less.

At some point during their travels, Sesshoumaru had formed an attachment to the Miko. However, it was not until he realized that she was still alive that his odd behavior began to show itself. Apparently, sometime during the winter storm five hundred years ago—the Miko had started to grow on him. However, the more he thought about it, the more it made sense.

He lay in bed justifying why an attachment had been created. Surely, it was the way she treated Rin and her accomplishments as the Shikon Miko. She had confided in him and he had allowed it. Whether he liked it or not, she became pack long ago—she became pack five hundred years ago. That in turn created an attachment. With annoyance, Sesshoumaru rubbed his temple in frustration.

He could not allow the attachment to become anything more. Even now, he was behaving irrationally at the mere thought of the wolf competing for her. Surely, it was not as if he wanted to compete for her—was it? No. Of course not. After all, even though human and youkai were viewed in a better light than they used to be—he was still a lord. A lord required a lady or a daughter of a lord—it required royalty and most importantly a youkai.

Yet had he not just told himself at the council meeting with her new title she would be just that? Had he not just informed himself all the Youkai that would be after her due to her reputation and title? Had he not been the main youkai to agree to her title? Closing his eyes in irritation, he realized he had created his own problems.

He, Sesshoumaru, seemed to be contradicting himself.
