Kagome stirred in her sleep. Before even opening her eyes, she felt the pain once again. Letting out a small groan, she began to stretch herself out only to hit a hard force. Confused, she slowly, and reluctantly opened her eyes. Blinking in confusion, she closed her eyes once more and then blinked again. She regretted instantly. Why were there piercing blue eyes looking back at her? Slowly, memories of last night came back to her.

"Koga." She said aloud almost in confirmation.

"That's my name." He responded in a low and husky voice while maintaining eye contact. Mortified and embarrassed, Kagome's body froze. When had they fallen asleep? All she could remember was crying…and then nothing. Had she fallen asleep on him? Was he annoyed? Irritated? Searching his face, she saw nothing short of amusement and curiosity.

"I'm so sorry. Augh—what is wrong with me?" She whined while also offering an apology.

Why did she keep proving to her former companions that she was useless and pathetic?

"I must have fallen asleep…" She explained. Koga nodded in confirmation and with that wolfish grin he always had. Untangling herself from her, she began to stand up. She saw Koga stand up along with her almost as if asking if she needed help. Shaking her head in response, she walked towards the window.

"It's stopped."

"Yeah, the blizzard stopped a few hours ago."

"Oh."

Staring at the beautiful scene once again before her, she began wondering several things. For one, where had Sesshoumaru gone? Did he not want to see her? Yet that seemed like a silly conclusion since he was the one that ensured she got to the hospital. Koga had found out about her by word of mouth but Sesshoumaru had actually heard her. Were they not friends still? Surely, they were at least that due to their time spent together.

Sighing, Kagome reminded herself that her relationship with Sesshoumaru had always been nothing short of complicated.

"Merry Christmas, Lord Sesshoumaru" The innocent little girl chimed while handing the Lord of the Western lands a small wrapped objected. Raising a brow, Sesshoumaru gave his ward a confused but intrigued look.

"Open it. It's a Christmas gift." A new voice explained. Lifting his eyes, he watched the Miko walk into his study. Giving him an apologetic smile, he heard her quietly giggle under her breath. Reluctantly, he unwrapped the object.

Once again, Sesshoumaru glanced at the Miko and his ward in confusion.

Why was this object being given to him?

"It's a ring, Lord Sesshoumaru—it's a ring that Rin made! Will you wear it please?" The ward begged while not giving him time to answer. Quickly, she began to put the ring on that she had made from some flowers found within the castle. He did not have the heart to tell her no but decided to merely give the Miko a look of warning. Surly this had been her idea after all her talk of Christmas. Not only that, was that laughter he heard coming from her?

"What of the Miko? What was her gift?" He asked his ward curiously. Suddenly, he wished he hadn't. Mischievousness shown itself in the wards eyes and she excitedly handed a similar wrapped object to the woman. He heard the the woman's heart rate speed up and felt the shock and curiosity in her aura.

As she opened the gift, she saw the exactly same ring.

"Now one for you!" Rin proclaimed excitedly and once more helped with placing the ring on.

"It's just like the heart you drew!" His ward explained to the Miko. He was suddenly curious what she was going on about. However, examining the Mikos face—he figured he would wait to address it later.

"Jaken says that rings signify a union. So, Rin made rings!" The little girl explained innocently. Sesshoumaru felt the stare of the Miko and looked up. She was clearly embarrassed, and yet she stared at him in awe as happiness radiated off her.

He wondered if she would tell his ward the significant of such an object—especially when it came to humans. Staring back at her, he waited to see what she would do. It was then that she gave him a small smile and then turned to his ward.

"It's beautiful, Rin. Thank you." She said as she gave the ward a hug. Sesshoumaru was not sure why but he was pleased that he sensed sincerity and love radiating off not just the Miko but his ward as well.

She could honestly say that after Sesshoumaru joined the group, nothing was ever the same. She had learned so much about him but yet so little. He was not the man she initially thought him to be. In fact, he was actually kind and much more interesting than she once thought. He was so much different from what she had expected.

It was odd, when she came back to her time she missed all her companions but the ones she tried to find the most was Shipppo and Sesshoumaru. Instantly, Kagome felt guilty for not having searched for Koga. What was it about the wolf that had initially always made Kagome pass over him? Silently, she swore to herself to give the wolf more thought.

A knock on the door brought her back to reality once again.

"Miko, you are being discharged." A familiar voice stated. Glancing at the door, she gasped. It was almost as if he had known she was thinking about him. Had he? Was that within his powers? In the Feudal Era, she often times wondered if he could read minds.

Staring at the Lord of the Western lands made her heart hurt. How long had it been? It felt like a lifetime ago. How many nights had she spent crying over her former companions? Hell, how many times had she wished to speak to him? After all, he had promised her she would not be forgotten. For the longest time she had thought that he was not able to keep her promise. Yet, as he stood in the doorway, she realized that Sesshoumaru had kept to his word.

Examining him quickly, she decided that while his human appearance was attractive, she much preferred his true image. The blonde hair did not seem to suit him in her opinion. While attractive and not many shades different from that of his silver hair, it just did not sit well with her.

Where were his glorious markings?

"Gawking is unbecoming of a Miko such as yourself."

The moment he spoke those words she knew her entire face turned red. What had it been about the Lord of the Western Lands that had bonded them? They were bonded after all—weren't they? She felt that they were. Had it been her pouring her feelings out during the winter storm five hundred years ago? Or was it the time that they had spent together as a family—or pack? Had Rin been behind their bonding? Or had it been a mix of the traveling and the innocent ward?

"Miko." He once again called. This time she apologized.

"Neither of you have truly changed." She stated openly while realizing that Koga was still in the room but quiet for once. Seemingly ignoring her statement, Sesshoumaru continued to speak.

"You will be administered into our care. We will introduce you to all that has occurred in the past five hundred years. Then we will bring you to the Council." He stated simply while staring at her. She was not sure if he was telling her what was going to happen, or asking.

"Shouldn't we ask her what she—"Koga interrupted out of the silence with aggravation in his voice.

"Unless I have miscalculated what you would desire in this situation, is this not what you wish for? Or do you desire to stay in the hospital? Do you in fact not want to be part of our society? I had thought you would crave to get a bit of normalcy of your past. Correct me if I'm wrong, Miko." Was all that Sesshoumaru while packing up what little remains she had in her room.

She could not help but smile. She was right—they were bonded. They had in fact spent time traveling together and once again, he surprised her with what he knew of her. Even now, after five hundred years, he seemed to know exactly what it was that she yearned for.

She missed them—she missed the Feudal Era. She wanted nothing more than to be part of their world. Smiling at him, she silently thanked him for allowed her to be part of their world.

"No, once again you are correct—Lord Sesshoumaru." She said trying her hardest to hold back the large smile that wanted to surface on her face. Vaguely, she heard what sounded like an annoyed grunt from Koga.

"Sesshoumaru" The Lord seemed to correct her.

"Kagome." She then corrected him. If he insisted on her removing his title then she refused to have him use hers.

"Let us be off, Kagome." Was the only confirmation she received from the Lord of the Western Lands. Turning back to face Koga, she gave him a smile.

"You're coming along—right?"

"Of course! You think I'm leaving you with the dog?" Koga responded in a rough tone. Laughing, Kagome suddenly realized something. While over five hundred years may have passed—somethings never changed.
