Yes. This has been finally updated. Hopefully, it won't tale three years for the next one. Hope you guys enjoy it and it was worth the wait.
A few weeks later Juliette looked around the room as she waited for him to pick up the phone. She didn't want Nick to know what she was doing. At least not yet. To say that she was worried about him was an understatement.
When she heard the phone pick up, she said, "Hey, Monroe? It's Juliette. How is everything going?"
The confusion in his voice could be heard as he answered, "Good, I guess. Just doing stuff and staying out of trouble. What's up?"
She sighed, "I'm worried about Nick. This case is really getting to him."
The frown in his voice could be heard as he asked, "They still haven't gotten a break?"
Juliette answered, "No. It's like after Sarah Jennings, the killer disappeared. Everyone is on edge. I don't think I've ever seen Nick like this."
Rubbing his eyes, he said, "Maybe you need to get away? Both of you. You sound pretty tense yourself."
She laughed, "Yeah. You remember what happened last time we tried to get away? Crazy seems to follow us. Anyway, I don't think he'd go for it. If he isn't with Hank working on the case, he's here working on it. He's obsessed, Monroe."
He grumbled for a moment before he said, "Maybe you just need to have him take one night off. Distract him. So, he can't think of the case."
She was excited that he had figured it out so soon. She smiled and said, "That's why I called. Are you still seeing Professor Deage?"
Monroe smiled, "Yeah. We've been on a few dates. I'm surprised I haven't scared her off yet. I can be a bit…odd."
She smiled, "Don't sell yourself so short. Nick thinks very highly of you."
He coughed a few timed before responding, "Um, thanks. So, you called because you're curious about my dating life?"
Juliette laughed, "No. I wanted to know if you and Professor Deage wanted to come over for dinner sometime. Maybe if there were more people than just me, Nick might be able to relax for a few minutes."
He cleared his throat, "First: call her Rosaleen. If you call her 'Professor', she'll give you the look that your gender made famous. Second: only if I can cook."
She frowned, "Monroe, I do know how to cook. Very well in fact. I also know some vegetarian dishes."
He smiled, "I don't doubt that. I figured I could make a nice meal, while you spend time with Nick. Come on, Juliette. Let me play in your kitchen. I've been dying to get my hands on it since I first saw it."
She burst out laughing, "Okay, Monroe. You can play in my kitchen. Do you want to make a list or something of what you'll need?"
He answered, "Nah. I got most of what I need here. Just plan on relaxing and eating. Sound good?"
She smiled, "Sounds perfect. I knew I could count on you. Just let me know a good day to do this, and I'll make it happen."
He smiled, "Will do. Talk to you then Juliette, and take care."
A few days later Juliette opened the door to Monroe and Rosaleen laughing, while being weighed down by bags. The two looked rather relaxed. It was funny to see Monroe wearing a necklace of garlic. She was pretty sure that the vampire jokes would be happening later.
She motioned them in, "Monroe, you could have told me what to get. You didn't have to bring half your kitchen."
Monroe shrugged and then walked in, "It was no bother. I told you that I had most of what I needed already. Just point me to the kitchen."
Rosaleen followed behind him, "Just be happy that he kept changing his mind. There were a few times I thought he was going to pack up the whole kitchen. He's lucky that his neurosis is part of his charm, or he might have been murdered years ago. Where do you want this stuff?"
Juliette led them back to the kitchen, "Do you need me to show you around, Monroe?"
Monroe was looking around in awe. Even while gauging the space and the appliances, he was still able to set his bags down. Anyone with brains could tell that he was excited about this.
Looking around with a grin, rubbing his hands together, he answered, "Nah. I got it. If anything, I know my way around a kitchen. I'm SO excited!"
With Juliette's confused look, Rosaleen laughed, "This is all he's been talking about, since you called. Most guys get excited about cars or strippers. Monroe gets excited about a state of the art range tops. I'm Rosaleen by the way, if you were wondering."
She smiled, "Juliette. It's a pleasure to finally meet you. Nick has talked about you from both the case and from what Monroe has told him. WHICH is all good, I might add."
Rosaleen laughed, "Don't worry. I'm sure I would know if Monroe had a problem with me. The man isn't exactly good at hiding his feelings. How is Nick?"
Hearing the door open and shut, Juliette sighed, "Looks like we are going to find out. You guys get started. I'll go and be a girlfriend."
Walking into the hall, she looked at Nick. This case was really getting to him. She knew that he hadn't been sleeping well. From the look of him, he hadn't been eating either. It even looked as if he had lost a few pounds. That wasn't good. It wasn't like he had that much to lose to begin with, lean as he was.
As Nick set his coat down, she kissed him, "Hey, you. How was your day?"
Kissing her back he then leaned his forehead on hers with a sigh, "Long. The Captain had us go over everything again. Still nothing. It's like this guy is a ghost."
She looked at him frowning, "He's flesh and blood, just like every other killer. He's only human."
A strange look crossed his face before he nodded, "Yeah, you're right. How was your day?"
She smiled, "Better, now that you are here. Monroe has taken over our kitchen for the evening. So, we just get to relax."
He gave her a nervous look while frowning, "Monroe is here? Why is Monroe here?"
She answered, "Monroe AND Rosaleen are here to have dinner with us. You know. Have some fun. You DO remember how to do that right?"
He rolled his eyes, "Yeah, I remember. I just don't know if it's such a good idea."
She playfully poked him in the chest, "You WILL hang out with us, and you WILL have fun. That's an order, Mister. Got it?"
He cracked a smile, "Yes, Ma'am. So, why has Monroe taken over the kitchen?"
She laughed, "According to Rosaleen, because it's Monroe. I swear, I think he brought over half of his kitchen."
He chuckled, "Sounds like him. We should enjoy one hell of a meal though."
Smiling she looked back seeing Monroe and Rosaleen joking and hugging in the kitchen, while prepping the area. It was nice to see something so carefree. So normal. She didn't realize how tense it had been around here, until this moment.
She turned back and said, "I think you're right. I also think it should be easy to have a good time with their company. So, promise me you'll try, and forget about the case. At least for tonight."
Hearing Monroe laugh at something Rosaleen said, Nick smiled, "I promise. Tonight the case doesn't exist. Let's go see if they need help."
The four of them had a good time just hanging out, talking, laughing, and just enjoying each other's company. Rosaleen did get a call that seemed to distract her, but she just waved off the questions by saying it was family stuff.
As they we eating, Monroe asked, "So, how have things been going with you, Juliette? Are all the family pets happy and healthy?
Taking a bite and shrugs, "Pretty quiet really. Not complaining. I hate it when animals come in and there is really nothing you can do. Breaks my heart. On the other hand, when you can help them, it's an amazing feeling."
Rosaleen smiled, "It must be tense at times. Must be nice for both of you to come back here and relax. The place is a real oasis."
Juliette beamed, "Thank you. It is. Of course, Nick here has been so busy with work that he hasn't been around much. This is the first Saturday he's been home at night."
Monroe looks up, "Really?" Looks at Nick, while asking Juliette, "Since the case started?"
Not noticing the look, Juliette answered, "No. I think the first time was when he went to visit you before your first date." Looks at Rosaleen, "He was nervous I guess."
Smiling Rosaleen said, "That makes two of us. Still, nice to know I can make a guy nervous."
Monroe stared at Nick with a frown. He could tell that Monroe was working something out. It must be the same look he uses when fixing a watch. It was kind of scary intense.
With narrowed eyes Monroe said to Nick, "I need your help in the kitchen…NOW!"
Nick slowly followed him into the kitchen, not saying anything, while the women looked at them confused. This was not going to be pleasant. Of course, getting caught never was.
When they were safely away from Juliette and Rosaleen, Monroe snapped, "YOU'VE BEEN STALKING MY DATES?!"
With his hands up, Nick answered, "Quiet." Looks back at the dining room, he said, "The first time was just to make sure you were okay. Stuck around when I saw the red dress. By the way, excellent moves there. I'm impressed."
Rubbing his face, Monroe groaned, "Did not need to know that. Okay, the first time I get, but the rest?" The idea clicked in his brain, "You're using me as bait! Hoping the killer goes after me."
Nick winced, "Not you exactly. Oh come on, Monroe. The thought had to have crossed your mind. You're a wesen dating a human. I just want to make sure that I'm ahead of this guy before he strikes again, and keeping tabs on Rosaleen seemed like the smart move."
Monroe frowns, "So, what? You're going to stalk our dates and just hope the guy tries something? Not the best plan there, Dude."
Raking his fingers though his hair in frustration, "It's all I got, Monroe. I got nothing, NOTHING on this guy. I'm desperate. If I have to use an innocent woman as bait, I'm to that point that I will without hesitating."
Monroe glares, "If anything happens to her, Nick…."
He sighs, "Yeah, I know."
Picking up an apple pie up from the counter, Monroe nods, "Just so you realize it, man. Now let's go back to having fun."
They both go back into the dining room with Juliette and Rosaleen looking at them with confusion, Monroe smiled, "Who wants pie?"
