Callistana:

(This is in the Hogwarts AU!)

"We can have cats, owls, and rats. Some people have frogs. I've even known people to have pet bats." Adrian leaned in close, teasing. "This is something new."

"Well, with the way things have been recently, I figured it would be good to have a reliable alarm system." Sydney explained. "I found the spell in one of Ms. T's books and decided it would do the job."

"Nowhere in the rules does it say we're allowed a callistana."

"The rules don't say we're not allowed one." Sydney countered.

Adrian smirked. "You would know. So, if it's not prohibited, what exactly is the problem here?"

"I can't bring it home for break." Sydney explained. "I can't keep it in rock form the whole time, that'd be cruel, but a lot of the stuff my father works with would set it off. It's...loud."

"Define 'loud'."

"Banshee." Sydney reluctantly said. "But he should be fine with you. As long as you feed him and give him lots of attention he won't be any trouble."

"So, 'it' is a 'he'? How can you tell?" Adrian leaned against her shoulder.

"Does it really matter?" Sydney asked. "He just is."

"Does he have a name?" Adrian finally gave into his lethargy and slumped all the way to the ground.

Sydney lie down beside him. "Not yet." Then, in a flash of inspiration, "If you took him you could name him."

Adrian considered it. "That is a very big responsibility."

"I trust you to not pick something silly." Sydney said, rolling onto her stomach and looking down on him.

He grinned very suddenly. "My girlfriend wants me to name her baby demon dragon."

"And does her boyfriend accept?" Her fingers and toes were crossed.

"He does. Now, can I see the little guy?"

Something short and sweet just because I feel bad for not having finished anything of substantial length lately.
