|Chapter 2: One For All
Dagoba Beach, 2 days after the Sludge Incident
"So let me get this straight." Akira sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. In front of him was an embarrassed Izuku and deflated All Might.
Izuku had brought him to Dagoba beach and All Might had just explained everything to him. From Izuku's encounter with the sludge to saving Bakugou and being deemed worthy of All Might's power which apparently can be transferred. Akira palmed his own face when he heard Izuku grabbed on to All Might's leg.
"I leave you alone for one day and you manage to become the successor of the number 1 hero and get his quirk?" The black-haired teen asked, hoping that was all.
Izuku scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "Uh, technically he hasn't given me his quirk yet, and there's one more thing." He said, earning a sigh from Akira.
"What am I missing?" Akira drawled. Izuku merely pointed at All Might, the latter lifting his shirt and revealing his scar; this had the effect of making Akira choke on his own saliva. "Why didn't you lead with that!?" He shouted. It's a good thing that no one came here, that probably would've startled a few people.
"I was wondering if you could heal him?" Izuku asked.
Akira signalled for All Might to sit down and looked over the injury. "What's wrong?" He obviously knew there could be everything wrong here, he just needed to know how difficult this would be.
"My stomach is gone and my respiratory system is shot." All Might explained.
Akira winced and turned to Izuku. "It's gonna take both of us to fix this."
Izuku nodded and placed his hands on his friend's shoulder before Akira placed his hands on All Might. Small green wisps of energy began to leave Izuku and flowed around Akira before turning gold and filtering themselves into All Might. Said pro felt free as years of constant pain began to ease for the first time, the weight of the word becoming lighter. After a few minutes, their work was done… and they both fell to the floor.
All Might, oblivious to the two teens panting, took a breath of his own, and it felt amazing. He continued to breathe more and he felt a wave of energy pass through him. Suddenly, he inflated into his muscle form. "Hahaha, this feels amazing!" He bellowed. "I feel like I'm young again!" The symbol of peace finally saw the two teens laying on the sand and shot them a worried glance. "What's wrong?"
"It's just my quirk." Akira said, sitting up. "It's called Chi. I can control my own lifeforce to heal people and also transfer parts of other people's lifeforce into another." He began. "By myself, I can mend bones and stuff like that with minimal effort." His chest heaved as he took another break. "But what I just did with you requires at least one other person's energy and I have to know what I'm fixing since it's all manual."
Izuku laughed and instantly regretted it but kept his smile. "And it doesn't stop there." He added. "That's just the support aspects of his quirk, battle is a whole other ballpark."
"That's a mighty fine quirk, young man. Are you planning on becoming a hero?" All Might asked.
Akira nodded. "Yup, Izuku and I have been planning to since we were kids." He said. "It's our dream."
All Might raised his eyebrow. "Five years old?" He asked.
The black-haired teen nodded again. "Izuku has worked his ass off to overcome his lack of quirk. I can comfortably say that in terms of battle prowess, we're both equal."
The symbol of peace looked at Izuku with calculating eyes. Izuku seemed to like baggy clothes so All Might didn't actually know what kind of body type he was working with. "Can you take off your shirt?" He asked, getting a raised eyebrow from the both of them. "I just need to see something."
Izuku shrugged. "Alright then." Without so much as a second thought, he took off his shirt. In doing so, he revealed a body that looked like it was sculpted by the gods. The morning light reflected off his body and gave him an ethereal glow. If his body was a canvas, Izuku had painted the Mona Lisa and Starry Night at the same time.
"Holy shit!" All Might exclaimed. "You hid that pretty well." He said.
Izuku shrugged again. "I like baggy clothes." He stated.
"This is perfect, a body like that is more than ready for my power!" All Might said, taking out a stack of papers. "I had a whole workout plan since I thought you were a bit scrawny; we were going to clean this whole beach." He easily tore it up and added it to the trash pile around them. "At least we don't need it anymore, not for you anyway."
Akira raised his eyebrow. "Hold on, ready for your power?" He asked.
The symbol of peace nodded. "My power is a stockpiling quirk that's been passed down through eight generations. One user cultivates power then passes it down to the next. An unprepared body with that much power could explode." He explained, getting shocked expressions from both Izuku and Akira.
"He could what?!" Akira shouted.
All Might quickly rushed to explain. "Don't worry. Young Midoriya here will be able to handle at least ten percent of One For All with a body such as his."
Akira raised his eyebrow. "Ten percent, that's it?" That did not seem like a lot to him.
"That's actually a lot of power." But it definitely seemed like a lot for Izuku. "Think about it, assuming All Might has had this power for as long as he's been a hero, the amount of power he's stockpiled within the quirk would be incredibly ridiculous."
"Meaning that you'd be starting with his base and working off from there." Akira finished. "Yeah, this is why you're the quirk nerd." He said with a laugh. "At least that'll make using this quirk easier."
"Wait." Izuku said, turning to All Might. "Will you still be able to use your quirk after you give it to me?" He asked.
All Might put his hand on Izuku's shoulder. "After I give it to you, it won't be my quirk anymore, it'll be yours. But don't worry, now that you've healed me, I'll be able to continue using One For All for at least a year." He looked around the beach. "Though, since I can live normally again, I think I'll hold off on using it and try to get myself back into shape." Smiling his signature smile, All Might turned to Izuku. "Now, it's time for you to receive One For All."
The greenette started to imagine how the power would be transferred. 'Does he pass it by placing his head on my head? Or is it something more ceremonial?'
"Eat This!" All Might exclaimed, holding out a lock of his hair.
Izuku and Akira both looked at the hair with disgust. "What?" They both asked.
"Eat this and take my power!" All Might said.
"How does that work?" Akira asked for Izuku, the latter frozen in place.
"One For All is given through the ingestion of DNA." All Might explained. "I thought this would be better than saliva or blood."
Izuku unfroze. "W-wait, doesn't that m-mean that anyone I… um…" Wow, this was more embarrassing than he anticipated. "S-share my DNA with will get One For All?" Izuku asked, blushing slightly.
All Might understood his implications and tried not to laugh. "Don't worry, young Midoriya, the power can only be transferred if you will it so." He explained, easing Izuku's worries.
"Okay then." Izuku said, taking the hair from All Might's hand. "Bottoms up." He slowly swallowed the hair and immediately wished he shoved it down his throat. "How much shampoo do you use!?" He asked.
All Might chuckled sheepishly. "I thought it would make it taste better." Akira shot him a deadpanned look. "Anyway, it'll take about three or four hours before the power transfers completely." He deflated into his normal form. "Let's do some cleaning."
Three Hours Later
All Might sat down on a broken couch, sweating lightly. "Alright, it's been enough time. Let's see if you can use it." He said.
Izuku adopted a confused expression. "Umm, how do I use it?" He asked.
Akira was about to speak but All Might interrupted, inflating to his muscle form. "Just feel the power inside you. When you find it, clench your butt cheeks and scream 'Smash' from the bottom of your heart." He deflated after his explanation.
Before Izuku could take All Might's advice, Akira interrupted. "Dude, no!" He exclaimed, getting the other two to jump slightly. "What the heck are you doing?"
"We're activating One For All" All Might explained.
Akira shot him an incredulous look. "You just said before that Izuku would only be able to handle a small bit of this power. If he uses all of it right off the bat he'll break his arms."
"Oh…" All Might sheepishly laughed. "Almost forgot about that."
The black-haired teen was really reconsidering his past opinions of the symbol of peace. "Alright, quirk 101, Izuku." Akira said, clapping his hands. "Most toddlers figure this out so it shouldn't be too hard. All you gotta do is feel out for your quirk and just let it be."
"Is that all?" Izuku asked. "I thought it'd be a bit more complex than that."
Akira shook his head. "It's a pretty easy concept. Imagine your quirk is a core in the centre of your chest. Feel for the energy and let it run throughout your entire body." He explained. "Remember, quirks are just extensions of a person; a normal process like blinking or walking. So try think of it like that."
Izuku closed his eyes and began to feel for One For All. 'One For All.' He mentally called out to the quirk and was instantly answered. "I can feel it!" He exclaimed, opening his eyes.
"Calm down." Akira quickly said. "Take it slow, breathe." His hands were glowing just in case he needed to step in.
Izuku quickly calmed himself down and took slow breaths. "Right, right. Sorry." He said with a small laugh. "This is kind of exciting; this is like my whole dream."
"I know." Akira replied with a laugh of his own. "Now try and pull out the power. Very slowly." He stressed the last part.
Izuku began to let the energy out, bit by bit, trying not to let it overflow him. On the outside, red veins of power washed through Izuku's entire bod and small, green sparks emanated from him as well. However, the red veins instantly intensified and his body began to glow like the sun. "ARGH!" Izuku could feel all of the power he had; it was a lot.
"Izuku! Shut it down!" Akira shouted, holding his arms up to defend himself. The mere presence of Izuku's full power was enough to kick up a small sandstorm around him.
The greenette closed his eyes and imagined closing the gates of his quirk. Luckily for him, the quirk answered his request and his power began to recede. 'Thank you.' He thought before plopping onto the ground with a huff.
All Might and Akira quickly rushed to his side, the latter placing a glowing hand on Izuku's shoulder. "Are you okay?" He asked in a worried tone. "Did you break anything?"
"Nah, I'm fine." Izuku said, breathing deeply. "All of the power just suddenly rushed out at me, I couldn't control it all." He had a downcast look on his face.
"Don't worry, young Midoriya." All Might said. "We have an entire ten months to get you used to your quirk, we have time." He placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "We can take this slow."
Izuku nodded, determination setting into his face. "Well, at least I have a baseline for the percentages now." He said, getting a smile from the other two.
"You wanna try again?" Akira asked.
Izuku nodded and they both stood back. He reached inside for One For All again and found it. He did a few calculations on how much to let out based on what he felt when it exploded. The red veins re-appeared around his entire body and green sparks emanated from him. He opened his eyes.
"Woah." Izuku said. "I feel great."
"How much is that?" All Might asked.
Izuku took a step forward. "I'd guess… about 5%?" He jumped and ended up several meters in the air. "Ahhhh!" The greenette shouted before he landed on his feet and regained his balance.
Akira looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "You good?" He asked.
Surprising himself, Izuku nodded. "Yeah, I do. Weird."
"What's with the sparks?" Akira asked, getting a confused look from Izuku.
Izuku put his arm in front of him and saw green sparks. "I don't remember All Might emitting sparks." Akira said.
Izuku stared at the sparks and tried to reign them in. The sparks started to dissipate but he didn't feel any weaker. 'Oh, wow.' Actually, he felt stronger.
"What did you do?" Akira asked.
"I just imagined myself reigning them in. I actually feel stronger." Izuku said, flexing his arm. He looked to All Might for an explanation. "Have you ever had sparks?"
All Might nodded. "Back when I fought the villain that gave me my scar, I had to use more than 100% of my power. When I delivered my final punch, gold sparks were raging around me. They are what happens when the power isn't focused properly."
Izuku nodded. "So what about the red veins?" He asked.
"That's just how the power works with you, it's different for each user." All Might explained. "Now, we've got ten months to get you ready for the exam. I'm assuming you already know how to fight?"
Izuku nodded. "Akira taught me karate and I have a good battle instinct."
"Great battle instinct, and easily black belt." Akira added. "I've needed to use the lower parts of my quirk sometimes just to keep up with him a few times when he goes all out."
"Perfect, then all we need to focus on is cleaning up this beach and getting you used to your new power." All Might laughed before bending down to Izuku. "And remember, it's your power now, not mine." He reminded him. "Alright, let's get you two ready for the entrance exam."
"Yes, All Might!" Izuku and Akira said, saluting.
All Might chuckled. "While I'm in this form, call me Sensei or Yagi. We don't want people to know our secret remember?"
"Yes, Yagi-Sensei!" Izuku and Akira said, saluting again.
All Might couldn't help but smile. This was going to be a fun ten months.
Eight Months Later
Izuku, Akira, and All Might all sat on a bench next to the beach. "We finally did it." Akira sighed; it took slightly longer then they anticipated since All Might wanted to do most of the work himself.
'All Might worked really hard.' Izuku thought while looking at his mentor.
All Might was no longer skinny or weak in his regular form. He had buffed up to a slightly stronger build than when he was attending Yuuei. As a result, his muscle form was much stronger. He hadn't been on patrol for a while, most of the world thought he was dead. But he'd be back soon though, and he'd make a hell of a return.
Izuku and Akira had also changed physically. They hadn't buffed up or too much but they both stood at a comfortable 5'8. Izuku had managed to reach 40% of Full Cowl. That's what he called his quirk output. Akira taught Izuku how to let his quirk be an extension of himself rather than a power he was given; it took around four months to do that.
They had both come up with fighting styles for when they used their quirks and when they didn't. Akira had to remind Izuku that he can't copy All Might and he had to be his own person when he said smash while throwing a punch. Izuku had two different styles: Testudo and Air Force.
Testudo was focused on defense and delivering powerful, precise strikes when seeing an opening. Air force was his ranged attacks. Over the ten months, One For All had grown in power vastly and small parts of his power could do much more. Just 15% Full Cowl allowed him to use the air pressure from a punch or a kick as a projectile. Using his full 40% and pushing it to 45%, Izuku could hold a fair spar with All Might for a few minutes.
Their time training had also made Izuku more confident. His fear of Bakugou had left him and he openly stood up to him and anyone else picking on him, the former had actually stopped picking on him since the sludge incident. Though, Izuku was still Izuku, Akira would never be able to curb his self-sacrificial tendencies; old habits die hard.
"Alright, boys, now that we've finished cleaning the beach, we're going to be training somewhere else." All Might said, getting confused looks from the other two. "Well we can't keep training here. People will start to use this beach again. I instead will be taking you two to Yuuei." Izuku and Akira both fell onto their butts.
"WHAT!?" The two teens shouted. "YUUEI?!"
"Don't worry, the principal will be fine with it." All Might reassured them. "Him and one other there know about One For All." Izuku and Akira's eyes basically popped out of their heads.
"Wait, other people know about One For All?" Izuku asked, surprised.
All Might nodded. "A few trusted colleagues and close friends."
"Okay, we're going to need a list of everyone that knows so we know whether to freak out or not if it suddenly comes up in conversation." Akira said, Izuku nodded furiously.
All Might sighed and pulled out his phone before typing in a few names and gave them the phone.
Izuku and Akira memorised every name on the list, there weren't a lot. "Okay so we have Principal Nezu, Recovery Girl, Sir Nighteye. Who's Naomasa Tsukauchi?" Izuku asked.
"Ah, he's one of my best friends." All Might said. "He's a detective."
Izuku nodded. "And Gran Torino?"
The symbol of peace shivered. "He's my old master, taught me how to fight back when he was teaching at Yuuei. Back then he was a big pro, but he's retired now." He explained. 'And thank God for that.' Memories of Gran Torino's 'teaching' flashed in his mind before he shook his head and turned to his two students. "Meet me at Yuuei tomorrow; you two are going to want to rest up."
All Might stood up and walked off, pulling up a hood so he wouldn't be recognised. Izuku and Akira both watched the pro walk off then turned to each other.
"It's only noon, what do we do for the rest of the day?" Akira asked.
"Food?" Izuku suggested.
The black-haired teen shook his head. "Not hungry."
"Arcade?" Ah, Izuku had him there.
"Okay, that could work." Akira nodded. "Let's just hope we run into Bakugou or his cheer squad."
Izuku and Akira shrugged off any sand on them and they both made their way to the arcade.
U.A, Ground Gamma
Izuku was trying not to freak out. He and Akira were currently at one of the training grounds of Yuuei. Earlier they had met Principal Nezu, he was scarier than they thought he would be. They had also met Recovery Girl, she offered Akira an apprenticeship with her if the hero course didn't work out. His ability to heal All Might made him quite a catch for either combat or support.
The training grounds at which All Might had summoned them resembled a giant industrial factory. Pipelines made up the majority of the training ground and stretched out as far as they could see. There were also a few cranes and other factory machinery littered around the area.
"All right, boys." All Might said, presenting the training ground to them. "Today we'll be working on your balance and ability to navigate difficult terrain." All Might said.
"Um, Yagi-Sensei, isn't this a little unfair?" Izuku asked, getting a soft smile from his mentor.
"Always thinking about others." The blonde ruffled his successor's hair. "You are truly a worthy successor." He said, getting an embarrassed look from Izuku. "If that's how you feel, I won't force you. We'll just train today and you can train how you see fit afterwards."
"That would actually be beneficial for both of you." Principal Nezu called out on the P.A system. "You have a lot of paperwork to do, Toshinori."
"Paperwork?" Izuku and Akira asked.
Nezu hummed over the speaker. "All Might will be a teacher here starting this coming school year." He explained. "I trust you're both smart enough as to conclude why."
Izuku and Akira were both in deep thought until realisation dawned on them.
"You became a teacher here so you could find a successor and train them." Izuku said.
"Which means there were other people that could've gotten One For All." Akira added.
Nezu laughed joyously. "Glad to see that All Might chose someone with a brain." He applauded the two. "Heroes that think instead of punching through their problems are always a nice surprise."
"I feel attacked." All Might said.
"You should." Nezu was really going for the kill.
"Okay enough, let's get started on training." All Might said. "While this isn't complicated, it is still difficult. He warned the two. "Run around and try not to fall over."
Izuku and Akira looked at All Might with a confused look. "Really? That's it?" They both asked.
"It's not as easy as you think, not unless you two do parkour as well." All Might was answered with the silent treatment. He sighed and pointed out to the training ground. "Just go."
Izuku and Akira activated their quirks, red veins running over Izuku's body and gold veins running over Akira's. They jumped off the platform and began to flip around the training grounds.
Izuku did a giant leap through the air, he couldn't help but smile as he felt the wind on his face. He didn't know why, but the feeling of gliding through the air just felt right. 'Man I wish I could fly.' Izuku suddenly stopped mid-air and he felt a surge of energy run through him.
Izuku's Mind Void
Izuku's surroundings changed and he was suddenly surrounded by darkness. He tried to scream but there was one problem, he seemed to be missing his mouth. Looking down at his body, he saw that his arms and legs were covered by a dark, forest green mist.
'I'm back?' Izuku thought. This place was not a stranger to Izuku. Six months after receiving One For All, he began to have dreams that took place here. Whenever he was here he usually would see eight dark figures lined up. He hasn't told anyone about it.
"So you're the ninth." A voice called out, startling Izuku.
Looking in front of him, he saw a tall, beautiful woman. She had a slender, yet voluptuous frame and dark straight hair with bangs. She wore a dark, sleeveless bodysuit with a high collar, yellow elbow-length gloves, and white knee-high boots. She also had a red cape around her waist and a white cape around her neck.
"Like what you see?" The voice said, Izuku suddenly realised he was staring and tried to apologise. "It's fine, kid, Toshinori had the exact same look on his face the first time he met me." Upon hearing his mentors name, Izuku tilted his head to the side. The woman sighed. "I'm guessing he hasn't talked about me much. My name is Nana Shimura, I am the 7th wielder of One For All." Izuku's eyes nearly exploded out of his head, he had so many questions. "Calm down, kid. I can tell by the look in your eyes that you have a few questions, unfortunately, I don't have that much time with you." Nana said. "So I'm guessing you're first question would be where we are right now. Well, we're inside One For All." Nana explained, getting a confused look from Izuku. "I know it's confusing, but this is normal. The other wielders of the quirk are also here but you'll have to wait a bit before you can meet them. As for why you're here. Well I don't wanna freak you out but there's no other way to say it, you're using my quirk right now." The inner Izuku's were currently trying their hardest to comprehend everything.
"You know that One For All is a stockpiling quirk, right?" Nana asked, Izuku nodded, slightly calmed down. "This quirk is over 100 years old, the quirk factors of all the previous users mixed with the core of this power when we had it. The core is starting to grow, as a result you're able to use the quirks that have been stored in it." Izuku, though surprised, was actually able to understand what she was saying. "Earlier, you were just thinking 'I wish I could fly,' right?" Izuku nodded. "Well, that's what my quirk is." Nana began to lift off the ground.
"My quirk is called float. It allows me to suspend myself while in mid-air. It's a good quirk to have. However, my quirk has the additional power cultivated in One For All, so it's more powerful than when I had it." She suddenly dropped to the floor.
"Damn, running out of time. Alright, kid, listen and listen well." Izuku was definitely listening. "The best way to use my power is to think about being free, feeling the wind on your face and being one with the sky." Izuku was loving the sound of that. "And remember, the people who smile in this world are the strongest. So continue to smile, no matter how scary things get." She placed her forehead on Izuku's. "You are never alone, One For All and its users are with you. Do your best!" Izuku felt a wave of calm wash over him and he was suddenly forced out of One For All.
Ground Gamma Observation Platform
Izuku suddenly found himself on the platform of Ground Gamma. Akira, All Might, Principal Nezu, and Recovery Girl surrounded him, idly chatting away.
"Wait, he just moved." Recovery Girl said, getting the other three to look at Izuku.
Akira quickly kneeled next to Izuku and put a glowing hand on his shoulder. "Dude, what happened? You were just floating!" He exclaimed.
Izuku looked at them, thinking about how to put this. "You're all going to want to sit down for this…" He started.
By the end of his explanation, all four were absolutely dumbfounded. Nezu didn't think he could be surprised by anything anymore; he was very wrong.
"You met my master?" All Might asked, trying to keep his composure.
"Yeah, she was beautiful." Izuku said.
A few tears escaped All Might's eyes and he smiled softly. "Yeah, she was."
"Wait, so you can fly now?" Akira asked.
"Yeah, she also said that I'd be getting the other quirks of the past One For All users." Izuku said, "I don't know who they are though."
"I'll handle that." Nezu said, stepping up. "I have access to a plethora of files pertaining to heroes. I'll find out as many of the other quirks as I can so you aren't surprised."
Izuku gave the chimera an appreciative look. "Thank you, Principal Nezu."
Nezu and Recovery Girl both walked off, the latter giving Izuku some gummies for energy.
"So…" Akira started. "How exactly are we going to explain this to people?" He asked.
Izuku actually had a solution to that. "We'll keep the same excuse but change it a bit. I have a high calibre stockpiling quirk and I can manipulate the energy I stockpile to give myself a wide variety of abilities." He explained. "We're not even lying." Izuku added.
Akira and All Might both nodded at his excuse. "That works." All Might said.
"So are you gonna try and fly now?" Akira asked.
Izuku nodded. "Yeah, Nana told me how to use it. I should be fine." He stood at the edge of the platform and leapt high into the air. His eyes closed as he remembered what Nana said. Focus on nothing but the wind on his face and the feeling of freedom. With a breath, he pushed off.
"Woah!" Akira watched Izuku shoot off with a small amount of surprise.
Opening his eyes, Izuku saw he was shooting through the air. "HAHAHA! I DID IT!" Izuku exclaimed, pumping his fists through the air. His eyes trailed back to Akira and All Might and he dove down towards them before making an extremely rough landing. "Alright, going to need to work on the landings." He said, face on the ground.
"That was awesome!" Akira praised, running up to Izuku. "You were flying!"
"Young Hikaru is correct." All Might said. "That was amazing, you reminded me of when Nana and I used to fly around Tokyo." He reminisced.
"I'm gonna need to get used to flying." Izuku said. He was looking forward to training this; he could add flying to his Air Force fighting style.
All Might thought for a bit. "You could apply for a flight license." He suggested, getting confused looks from Izuku and Akira. "If you had one you could fly around whenever you want legally."
"Am I even old enough to apply for one of those?" Izuku asked, that sounded like something most would get when they're older.
"I'm not surprised you think that." All Might said. "Most with flying quirks don't even hear about this until after high school but anyone with a flying quirk can apply for one after they turn ten." He explained. "Ha, I was pulled over once in the air and had to get one because they thought I was floating."
Izuku and Akira chucked at their mentor's story. "Alright then, guess I'll get one of those." The greenette said. "I actually think my Mum has one, so I can ask her."
All Might nodded. "Yes, you two should probably start heading home now." He said. "I have mountains of paperwork to get through so you won't be hearing from me until sometime after the entrance exam." Izuku and Akira nodded.
"See you in two months then, Yagi-Sensei." Akira waved goodbye, walking off.
"Bye, Yagi-Sensei." Izuku said, catching up to Akira.
All Might watched them walk off with a small smile on his face. 'They're going to be great.' A voice from the P.A system got his attention.
"If you're done staring off into nothing, please come do your paperwork."
All Might sighed. This was going to be a rough two months.
