|Chapter 5: A Dangerous Power
Class 1A, The Next Day
Izuku, Akira, and a select few classmates of theirs seemed to be the only ones who remembered that Yuuei was still a high school. Everyone else had assumed it would be mostly training. Silver lining though, all of their teachers were pro-heroes, so it wasn't boring. Even the cafeteria was run by the Cook Hero: Lunch Rush.
The cooking hero had been pleasantly surprised when Izuku and Akira had both asked him for an autograph. He even got close to crying as other first-year students from all departments began to ask the same.
Right now, though, everyone was excitedly waiting for their teacher to arrive, whoever that would be. Today was their first hero training class and they were all hyped. Loud footsteps from outside the classroom made them turn towards the door.
"I AM!" A very familiar voice called, getting the whole class to their feet. "COMING THROUGH THE DOOR, LIKE A NORMAL PERSON." All Might exclaimed while bursting through the door, not like a normal person. Not like the class cared though.
"Holy crap! It really is All Might!"
"All Might's our teacher!"
"Is that his silver age costume? Kero."
"Hahaha! Welcome to your Foundational Hero Studies class." The large blonde greeted them all. "In this class, myself and other members of the staff will be building up your hero skills through various tests and scenarios." All Might exclaimed, flexing slightly. "Your first test will be…" He held out a card. "A Battle Trial!"
Bakugou adopted a feral grin. "Battle?" He said eagerly.
His other classmates sweat dropped at the look on his face. 'At least he's enthusiastic.'
"But we can't have you being heroes without…" All Might pressed a remote that opened several shelves on the wall. "Your Hero Costumes!" He bellowed, exciting the entire class. "Your costumes have all been made to the specifications you put in before the semester started." The large man explained. "Now put these on and meet me at Ground Beta!"
"YES, SIR!" The entire class exclaimed, grabbing their costumes, and rushing out. Izuku and Akira chuckled at their classmate's enthusiasm.
"Come on, boys, let's get going." All Might said, ruffling his two protégé's hair. "You don't want to be shown up by the others, do you?"
The two instantly grabbed their costumes and sprinted down to the changing rooms.
Ground Beta
Izuku and Akira were the last to arrive at the training grounds, despite their sprinting. Their costumes received a few confused looks from their classmates.
Izuku wore a black undershirt with a green jacket outlined with charcoal fur. He had black combat pants and red shoes. On his face he wore a diamond shaped steel mask with eight holes, a yellow visor, and a pair of black headphones. He also had a red waist cape.
(A.N: It's basically just Hawks' Costume with a different colour scheme and his mask.)
Akira wore a similar black under shirt and black combat pants, as well as a pair of black shoes. Instead of a jacket he wore a plated mustard jumper with his hood down. He also had a pair of black fingerless gloves with metal plating on the back.
Overall, there wasn't anything standing out with their costumes; they looked pretty plain. They weren't useless though. Their black undershirts and pants were designed with a special fibre that could withstand a lot of damage, and their shoes also had iron soles to increase defence and damage.
"Midori?" Mina asked, walking up to who she assumed was Izuku.
The greenette placed his mask underneath his chin and smiled. "Yup, it's me." He waved.
"Your suit looks pretty cool." She stated happily. "Mine's a bit… well." She blushed a bit.
Izuku actually got a good look at her costume and his face was set on fire. "I-I actually think it l-looks good on you." He managed to get out. "It's very exotic."
Mina beamed at his praise. "Thanks, Midori!" She exclaimed.
Akira was having a similar situation with Uraraka, though he wasn't blushing as badly.
"Well look at you all, you look amazing!" All Might exclaimed, getting their attention. "Let's get this combat training started then."
"Sir." Iida called out, raising his hand. "This is the mock city from our entrance exam, does that mean we'll be conducting urban battles?" He asked.
"Nope!" All Might said. "I'm gonna be moving you newbies two steps ahead. While you do see a large amount of villain fights on the news take place outside, the most dangerous take place in doors." He explained. "Underground lairs, drug trafficking, hostage situations; the smart villains will stay in the shadows. For this exercise, we'll be conducting an indoor two versus two battle."
Tsu raised her hand. "Don't you think this is a bit much for our first class?" She asked.
"The best experience you get will come from the battlefield." All Might said while shaking his head. "So let me explain the scenario for you all." He reached into a pocket and pulled out a script; Izuku and Akira had to muffle their laughter. "The villains have hidden a doomsday device somewhere in their hideout, the heroes must stop them. To do so the heroes must either capture the villains or recover the device. Similarly, the villains win if they capture the heroes or time runs out." The man explained.
Iida raised his hand again. "Sir, how will the team be selected?" He inquired.
All Might pulled out a box. "By lottery!" He exclaimed.
"Isn't there a better way to choose teams?" Iida asked.
"Well it makes sense if you think about it." Akira said getting everyone's attention. "Pro heroes have random team ups all the time…"
"So this is most likely to test us on our ability to adapt in uncertain situations." Izuku finished the explanation.
"I see!" Iida exclaimed. "Excuse my interruption." He said while performing another perfect ninety degree angle bow.
"Don't sweat it!" All Might said with a thumbs up. "Now let's get started!"
Team A: Izuku Midoriya & Mina Ashido
Team B: Shoto Todoroki & Mezo Shoji
Team C: Momo Yaoyorozu & Tenya Iida
Team D: Katsuki Bakugou & Akira Hikaru
Team E: Yuga Aoyama & Ochako Uraraka
Team F: Rikido Sato & Koji Koda
Team G: Denki Kaminari & Kyoka Jiro
Team H: Fumikage Tokoyami & Tsuyu Asui
Team I: Mashirao Ojiro & Toru Hagakure
Team J: Eijiro Kirishima & Hanta Sero
Akira and Bakugou both gave each other a hateful look. Izuku on the other hand had put his mask up so no one could see the blush on his cheeks.
"What are the chances eh, Midori?" Mina asked, getting close to Izuku.
All Might saved Izuku by calling out the first two pairs. "Alright people the first two teams to compete will be…" The blonde pulled out two balls from the villain and hero boxes. "Hero Team A vs Villain Team D!" He exclaimed.
Bakugou looked towards Izuku and shot him a feral grin. Izuku ignored him and looked towards Akira with a sympathetic look.
"Alright, villains, you have five minutes to prepare." All Might explained. "Heroes, wait outside."
The two teams walked off to their positions as All Might and the others went to the observation room.
Outside The Mock Building
"So, what's the plan here?" Mina asked.
Izuku didn't hear her as he was observing the floor plan and trying to think of where Akira or Bakugou would put it. 'I know exactly where both of them would want to put it but I have to factor in who would win an argument.'
"Midori?" Mina snapped her fingers in front of his face, causing him to jolt.
"Ah, sorry, I got a bit too focused." Izuku said with a blush.
"It's fine." Mina waved him off. "Kinda cool that you're super into this!"
Izuku smiled widely. "Thanks!" He said before focusing. "I have a plan, but we're gonna need to stay with each other the entire time." The greenette explained. "Side-by-side, back-to-back, we have to keep each other's six."
Mina grinned playfully. "So, you don't want to leave my side." She teased.
Izuku started to stammer. "N-no, I-I mean." He sighed and took a deep breath. "Here's the plan…"
Inside The Mock Building
Akira placed the bomb on the ground. He had just walked with the bomb to the third floor, he knew talking with Bakugou was useless.
"Hey, curly." Bakugou called out. "Have you and that nerd been lying to me?" He asked with an angry tone.
Akira instantly grew an aura of rage. "Dude, whatever pedestal you've placed yourself on, step off." He said. "Izuku wouldn't lie to you even if he wanted to, this quirk showed up after the sludge incident."
Bakugou scoffed at being reminded of the sludge. "Whatever." He said before walking off.
"Where the hell do you think you're going?" Akira asked.
"You know the answer, dipshit." Bakugou said, not even sparing him a glance.
'I really hope you get your ass beat.' Akira thought before moving the objects in the room to make a barricade.
"The five minutes is up, villains.' All Might called from the P.A. system. 'Heroes may now enter."
Second Floor
Izuku and Mina were walking down the halls of the second floor; they both could sense that nothing was going to be on the first floor so they skipped it. The greenette's head went off and Mina's ears twitched as they were about to turn the corner and they both jumped back. This served to save them both from a patented Bakugou explosionTM.
"You good?" Izuku asked Mina; she nodded and he whispered something in her ear. "Alright then." The girl nodded with a determined expression before running down the hallway and turning the corner.
"So, you want to settle this like men." Bakugou said with a feral grin. "Only action you've made that I can respect." The blonde quickly rushed forward, using his explosions to propel him, before he threw forward a right hook.
While Bakugou smirked, Izuku gave him a confused look. 'He seriously still leads with this?' The greenette quickly dodged Bakugou's arm before grabbing it and using his momentum to slam him into the wall.
'What the hell?' Bakugou though with surprise, that mistake cost him a second that Izuku used to kick him across the hall.
"You'd think someone with your battle sense would stop leading with the same move every. Single. Time. But whatever works for you I guess." Izuku said, slowly powering up 10% of One For All.
Bakugou shrugged himself off and shot upwards. "The idea is that my opponents aren't physically able enough to have another battle with me and capitalise on that." He said with a surprising amount of calm. "But I guess I'll be trying out the arsenal with you." His face adopted his usual grin and he lunged upwards, aiming an explosion at Izuku from above.
The greenette quickly did a backhand spring, dodging the explosion, before delivering a drop kick towards the blonde. However, as a testament to Bakugou's combat ability, he used his explosion to quickly put him back in the air, dodging the attack. Izuku rushed forward this time and threw a double legged kick to which Bakugou jumped over him and sent an explosion down towards Izuku.
Float quickly activated and he rolled on the air as if it was the ground, just barely missing the explosion. They both landed on the ground and rushed forward again. They continued their game of cat and mouse; one would attack and the other would narrowly dodge them before launching a counter.
Izuku knocked back Bakugou close to the end of the hall and got into a stance. Bakugou shook his gauntlets and grinned. "You know how my explosions work right? They're sparked by the sweat in my palms." Izuku had a confused look on his face while Bakugou explained, he knew he already knew.
Bakugou raised his gauntlet and Izuku's eyes widened. "Now if the support company decided to listen to my request, then this should've stored the sweat I've worked up." He had his finger on a pin and Izuku charged up 40% of One For All as fast as he could.
"Young Bakugou, if you use tha-" All Might didn't get to finish as Bakugou pulled the pin. A large explosion rushed down the hall straight to Izuku, the latter having his guard up.
The explosion created a large amount of smoke and dust; Bakugou had a feral grin on his face. "Guess I was wrong, you're still a useless freak." However, his grin was soon wiped off his face as Izuku shot out of the dust and landed a punch directly to his ribs. "Argh!" He shouted in pain as he was thrown to the wall.
"Ashido, now!" Izuku called.
Bakugou looked to his right to see Mina standing there with acid in her hand. She threw it at him and it hit Bakugou's eyes, causing him to scream again. Izuku automatically went back down to 10% and rushed forward with a right hook to Bakugou's face, knocking him out. Not wasting anytime, Mina quickly wrapped him up in capture tape.
"Bakugou has been captured." All Might's voice called.
"Do you think that was a bit much?" Izuku asked with a worried tone, the crunch he felt when he punched Bakugou's ribs didn't feel right.
"I think too much was the explosion from his gauntlets." Mina replied. "Come on, we only have a few minutes left." She said, running off.
Izuku spared one last look at the downed Bakugou then at his fist before catching up with Mina.
Third Floor, Bomb Room
Akira was standing next to the fortified bomb with a metal staff. He was currently waiting for Izuku and Mina, he knew Izuku wouldn't bother with being quiet. His assumptions were proved correct as the door flew towards him.
He quickly powered up and caught the door; he threw it to the side and saw Izuku and Mina standing in front of him. "Well, can't say I didn't see this coming." Akira said, getting into his own stance.
Izuku looked towards the corner of the room and saw it covered by several barriers of wooden planks and other metals. "Mina, you get the bomb, I'll take Akira." He said, powering up to 15%; Mina nodded and broke off.
Izuku and Akira spared each other a small moment before they rushed forward. Akira jumped and swung down with his staff but just barely missed Izuku who side stepped it and kicked him back. The black-haired teen righted himself mid-air and landed before he broke his staff into two batons. He shot forward again and sent an onslaught of attacks at Izuku, the latter blocking or dodging.
Eventually, Izuku managed to grabbed Akira's sticks as he swung down and they fought for dominance. Izuku's power slowly rose up to 20% before he forced their arms apart, throwing the batons aside. The two teens both reeled back their right fists and struck. Their punches collided and shook the building.
Akira managed to quickly hit away Izuku's arm with his left and continued to turn around and strike his friend in the face with a back kick. The greenette had slowly been charging 30% and took the hit in stride before he reeled back his fist. When their two punches collided for a second time, Akira grunted in pain, losing the battle of strength. He got sent back into the wall and his arm was twisted; Izuku's eyes widened and he quickly rushed to his friend's side.
"Crap, Akira, are you okay?" Izuku asked frantically.
Akira nodded. "Don't worry, hell of a punch." He said while golden energy began to flow around his arm, as it did, the arm slowly started to click back into place.
Off to the side, Mina finally got through the barrier and touched the bomb. "I got it!" She exclaimed with a cheery tone.
"Hero team wins!" All Might exclaimed.
Izuku wasn't listening though, he was staring at his own fist. He was pretty sure he destroyed a few of Bakugou's ribs and now he had just broken Akira's arm. 'This power… it's… dangerous.' The teen was brought out of his thoughts by Akira.
"Izuku." Akira said, snapping his fingers in front of Izuku's face. "I'm fine now, look; I'm clicking with my now healed arm." He said.
Izuku put on a smile. "Right, sorry about that." He said. "We should probably get back."
They all nodded and made their way back to the observation room. On the way there, they saw an unconscious Bakugou being carried off on a stretcher. This caused Izuku to look at his fist again.
Observation Room
Upon arriving at the observation room, their classmates cheered for Izuku and Mina. Uraraka checked on Akira's arm and praised him for being able to hold Izuku off for as long as he did.
Izuku was named as the MVP by the class but he gave it to Mina. When asked why, he said that Mina was the one to capture the bomb and helped him with Bakugou. His classmates tried to persuade him otherwise but he was pretty adamant, causing Mina to get an unfamiliar warm feeling in her chest.
The other battle trials proceeded but Izuku wasn't watching them. Throughout the rest of the lesson, he could only hear the crunch of Bakugou's ribs and Akira's arms over and over in his head.
Akira saw his friends distressed look but decided to wait after class. His attention was brought back to the screen as Todoroki froze the entire building. 'Damn.'
End of the Day, Skies
Izuku and Akira were flying home, the former was holding onto Akira who held both of their bags.
"So what's wrong?" Akira asked suddenly, confusing Izuku.
"What do you mean?" Izuku inquired.
"You're not acting normal." Akira replied. "Your usual ever present smile, though small most of the time, has been replaced with a worried look." The black-haired teen raised an eyebrow. "You really think I wouldn't notice?"
Izuku understood and sighed, of course he wouldn't be able to hide this from Akira. "It's about my quirk." He started; Akira signalled him to continue. "In the training exercise I broke Bakugou's ribs and I destroyed your arm!" The greenette exclaimed. "This power of mine, it's dangerous."
Akira gave him a sympathetic look. "Alright, I understand." He said with a nod. "But remember, it's your power. It's dangerous, sure, but so are a lot of other peoples. Don't let fear hold you back."
Izuku gave him a small smile. "Alright, I'll try." He looked at his fist again. 'I can't be a hero if I hurt my comrades. I might need to tone it down.'
The Next Day
Izuku and Akira were walking to the school when they saw a large amount of reporters in front of the entrance.
"Seriously?" Izuku asked, he wasn't in the mood to deal with them right now.
"Dude, we'll just jump the gate." Akira said, powering up.
Izuku did the same and flew over the gate. "I don't think I'll ever get used to them." Izuku said with a resigned sigh.
"You and me both." A voice called.
Looking in front of them, they saw Aizawa standing there. "Usually I wouldn't condone you using your quirks like that but I'll let it slide this time." He said, making Izuku and Akria smile. "I'll get the rest of your classmates; you just go to class." Izuku and Akira nodded and made their way inside.
Izuku's head screamed at him and he looked back to the gate, only to find it was still just the reporters. 'Hmmm, weird.'
Class 1A
Izuku was sitting at his desk while going over yesterday. Akira said not to let it get to him but the sound of those bones crunching kept playing in his head.
Aizawa walked in the class, cutting off any conversations or thoughts. "I decided to review your battle trials yesterday." He said in his usual bored tone. "Bakugou." The man's patented stare was completely focused on the blonde teen. "Stop being a child." His advice was quick and to the point. "Had stayed with Hikaru, you might've been able to win, this isn't a competition."
Bakugou scoffed but regretted it and touched his ribs. "Alright." He said calmly, getting a glance from Izuku.
"Hikaru." Aizawa started. "You did fairly well, though you should've tried to persuade Bakugou, no matter how impossible it may seem."
The black-haired teen tried not to laugh at his teacher's advice. "Yes, sir." Akira nodded.
"Ashido." Aizawa said, turning towards the pink girl. "Following a plan is a good skill but try to come up with your own ideas."
"You got it, teach!" Mina said with her usual cheery tone.
Aizawa turned to Izuku who was staring down at his hands. "Midoriya…" He started before shaking his head. "You already know what I'm going to say, and you seem to understand." Izuku shot him a grateful look and a nod.
"Todoroki." Aizawa turned to the heterochromatic teen. "Same thing with Bakugou, work with your teammates." The stoic boy nodded and the man turned back to the class.
"The rest of you also made mistakes but those were the big ones." Aizawa said. "Now we need to address something else."
'Please don't be a test, please don't be a test, please don't be a test.'
"We need to select your class president." Their teacher continued. The tense atmosphere dissipated and a competitive one instantly replaced it as all the students started to volunteer for the position. Before things could get out of hand, Aizawa silenced them with a glare. "We'll be deciding this by vote." He said.
Kirishima raised his hand. "Is that the best way to do it?" He asked.
Denki also wasn't sure about this approach. "Won't we just vote for ourselves?"
"I don't care, just have a president and vice-president by the end of class." Aizawa said with a bored tone. He pulled out a box and put it on the podium. "Put your votes in here and I'll tally them."
The students all shrugged and grabbed a piece of paper from their books. Some instantly voted while others thought for a moment. Eventually all the votes were tallied and the results were a little surprising.
"I got four votes?" Akira asked, surprised.
"I got three votes?" Izuku asked, equally surprised.
"You idiots voted for curly and broccoli head?!" Bakugou yelled.
Sero chuckled lightly. "It's better than voting for you." He said, getting an angry glare from the blonde pomeranian.
Aizawa magically appeared in front of the podium. "Alright then, that settles it. Hikaru is your class president and Midoriya is your vice." He said before walking out. "Have fun with the rest of your classes."
Present Mic walked in the class with a big smile. "Who's ready for English!?" The class mentally groaned.
U.A Cafeteria
Izuku and Akira were in the cafeteria with Tokoyami and Kirishima; Mina and her friends had also joined the table.
"I wasn't expecting to be president." Akira said. "The most votes I expected was one from Izuku."
Izuku nodded. "Same here, I just expected one from Akira."
"Wait, you two didn't vote for yourselves?" Kirishima asked, both teens shook their heads.
"I voted for him." The two both said in sync, pointing to each other.
"I voted for Hikaru as well." Uraraka said with pink cheeks, Momo and Tokoyami nodded.
"I voted for Midori-bro!" Kirishima exclaimed, surprising Izuku.
"Really?" Izuku asked.
Kirishima nodded. "Yeah, you were really manly yesterday; you totally dominated!" He said with a grin.
Izuku's smile faltered slightly as he thought about yesterday.
Mina saw this and decided to say something. "I voted for Midori because he's a good person!" She said with a cheery tone. "He saved me from Bakugou yesterday and from the zero-pointer at the entrance exam."
Izuku blushed heavily. "Y-you're giving me to much credit, Ashido" He stuttered out.
Mina leaned closer to him. "Call me Mina." She said with a teasing grin.
Izuku's blush got slightly bigger. "Okay, M-Mina." He said, rubbing the back of his neck with a smile. His blush disappeared as his head started screaming at him and he quickly looked up to the roof. "Something's wrong." He said.
Akira's eyes darted upwards and his expression became serious. "What's wron-"
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
1A's new president didn't get to finish his question as a siren began to go off. All the students in the cafeteria had mixed reactions. Most of the hero course students immediately stood up; quirks activated. A few other support and general studies students followed their lead while others looked around in apprehension and fear.
"LEVEL 3 SECURITY BREACH! ALL STUDENTS EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY!"
The cafeteria instantly filled with pandemonium and everyone rushed towards the exit. All the students in the hallway instantly cramping in caused even more ruckus and pushed some of the students up against the window.
Izuku looked outside and saw the press outside. 'Was it them?' He wondered before his head screamed at him again. 'No, but we need to calm them.' The greenette quickly looked for Akira and found him. "Akira!"
His friend turned to him and Izuku gestured towards the reporters. Akira made a silent 'O' in realisation and looked back to Izuku. "What do we do?" He asked.
Izuku pointed to the top of the exit. "Dead Calm."
Akira nodded and the both powered up before shooting up from the ground. Izuku flew to one side of the exit door and Akira wall ran to the other side, making a grip in the stone.
The two took a breath before they spiked their power. Their sudden and immense rise in power created two different airwaves that combined and washed over the students. As it did, all the clamouring students paused as they felt a weird soothing feeling come over them.
"Yo, everyone!" Akira shouted, getting their attention. "False alarm, there's no danger at all!"
Izuku pointed out the window. "It's just the reporters from this morning!" He continued.
The students looked out the window and saw they were telling the truth. Most of the students had the decency to look sheepish as their faces began to turn red in embarrassment. They quicky began to help up the people they knocked over and calmly evacuated.
As they filed out, Izuku felt the danger from upstairs disappear. 'What was that?' He looked outside and saw the teachers taking care of the reporters. His eyes travelled towards the gate, only to find it wasn't there. 'Hmmm…'
U.A Gate, After School
Izuku slowly descended to the Yuuei gate and was shocked to find the state of it. The large steel wall had been reduced to nothing but dust. If he had to guess, and was he, some decay or disintegration quirk would've been the cause for this. 'But a reporter more than likely wouldn't have done something like this, even if they had the capacity to.'
"Midoriya, shouldn't you be with the other students." A voice called out from behind him.
Turning around, Izuku saw it was none other than Principal Nezu standing behind him. "A-ah, Principal Nezu." The greenette greeted. "I was actually looking for you."
Nezu raised an eyebrow. "Oh, what did you need?" He asked.
"Someone got inside the building." Izuku said, surprising Nezu. "I could feel someone's presence enter the school before the alarms went off, somewhere above the cafeteria." He explained.
Nezu had a look of realisation. "Ah, Danger Sense I assume?" His answer surprised Izuku greatly.
"Yeah, how'd you know?" The greenette asked.
"I've been able to find a few of the quirks of the old users." Nezu said. "I'll give you a list once I found the rest of them. Though, you seem to be doing a good job yourself."
Izuku rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah, thanks for helping out though."
Nezu waved him off. "It's my pleasure." He said with a genuine smile. "I suggest you go home now; we'll figure out the rest from here."
Izuku nodded and flew off. "Alright, have a good day, Principal Nezu."
Aizawa walked up to Nezu as he watched Izuku fly off. "What did Midoriya tell you?" The greenette's teacher asked.
Nezu's smile dropped and he grew a serious face. "Someone has declared war on this school."
