|Chapter 21: Provisional Licenses! Let's Go!
National Dagobah Arena, Nine Days Later
"We're here." Akira said with a smirk as he and his class walked out of their bus, hero costume suitcases in hand.
The others were nervous but their last few days of training and creating their super moves quelled most of their fear. "Let's hope this past week with our new costumes was enough to break 'em in." Jirou said as she stretched.
"I hope we get to fight the others!" Momo exclaimed, a grin on her face. "My new close-combat battle form needs to be tested!"
Everyone laughed at the heiress' eagerness. "It's good to see you all eager." Aizawa said as he looked at them all. "But remember to remain calm; a single mess up could mean disaster in real life, this test applies that logic."
"We'll do our best, Sensei!" The class chorused together.
Aizawa nodded. "This is your next step into the world of heroics." He reminded them. "Pass this and you become semi-pros, so make sure your best is beyond…."
His students smiled and shot their fists into the air. "Plus Ultra!"
"Plus Ultra!" A new voice that no one had heard before caught the class's attention and they all looked behind them to see a very tall and large teen with his fist raised up.
Other students stood behind him in a similar uniform. "You shouldn't just barge in on other people's huddles, Inasa." A purple-haired boy chided.
The large student suddenly stood straight. "Oh, my most very extreme apologies!" He exclaimed loudly, bowing so low that he smashed his head into the ground. "I've just always wanted to chant that!"
Aizawa eyed the student with a shocked expression. 'It's him…'
Todoroki also looked at him like he was familiar. 'I know him… but I can't place it.'
Jirou looked at their uniforms and her eyes widened. "Their uniform…"
Izuku smiled. "Shiketsu."
"The most famous school west side of Japan." Bakugou continued, smirking as well. "One of the only schools whose hero course can match Yuuei's in terms of prestige."
Kaminari beamed at them. "Woah, cool caps!"
"Thank you." A large student that was completely covered in hair said. "It's an honour to be competing against Yuuei students, especially the infamous 1A." He bowed towards them. "Good luck on this exam, we will take our leave now."
A blonde girl waved at them as she walked by. "Yeah, dudes, you totes got this!" She exclaimed before catching up to her classmates with a whine. "Guys, wait up, and take a chill pill, Shishikura."
Aizawa watched the Shiketsu giant walk off and observed him carefully. "Inasa Yoarashi."
Hagakure raised an eyebrow. "You know him, Sensei?"
"He's… a strong one." Aizawa explained. "Last year, when we held our entrance exams, he was on the recommendation track." His student's eyes widened. "And he got the top score."
Todoroki's mind flashed to his recommendation test and he remembered the large giant. "Oh…no…." He said before he hung his head. 'I was a real dick to him back then.'
"Another first year, eh?" Akira asked, looking back to where the Shiketsu students walked off to before turning to Momo and Todoroki. "How are these two in our class then if he beat them in their exam?"
Todoroki shifted awkwardly. "That was… probably… me." He admitted in a rare show of emotion. "It's no secret I was cold to everyone back at the start of the year, but I was really tough on him since he would just keep trying to talk with me."
"Then I'd suggest you keep an eye out for him, Todoroki." Aizawa said. "The last thing you need in this exam is an emotional feud." He thought before adding. "Also apologise."
"Is that who I think it is?" A loud, familiar, feminine voice called out to the Yuuei students.
Aizawa's posture immediately stiffened. 'No…'
"It's my little Zuku!" A blur rushed past the Yuuei students and Izuku was suddenly being held in the air by a short woman with sea-green hair. "Oh my gosh, look at you!"
Izuku's eyes widened and a smile crossed his face. "Auntie Emi!" He exclaimed with a laugh. "What are you doing here?"
Aizawa blinked, frozen in place. 'Ms Joke… Auntie Emi….' His eyes shifted between the two and he hated how quickly he could spot the resemblance in their smiles. 'No….'
"I'm a teacher for Ketsubutsu Academy." Emi explained, putting Izuku down and pointing to her arriving students. "But what about you, young man, you can't be getting your hero license already, you're basically a baby." She ruffled the greenette's fluffy hair, standing on her toes to reach it.
Izuku shook his head to get his hair back into place. "I'm a teenager, Auntie." He pouted before pointing to Aizawa. "Besides, Sensei thinks we're ready."
Emi looked to where he was pointing and her smile widened even further. "Eraser Head!" She exclaimed, running up to his face. "I haven't seen you in person in ages!" Her head tilted to the side. "You're teaching my nephew?"
Aizawa was still frozen in place before he managed to get a word out. "Apparently…" He shifted his eyes towards Izuku and his world slowly pieced together. 'So much makes sense now.'
"Wow, you're basically like an uncle to him then, yeah?" Emi asked with stars in her eyes. "If that's the case, we should probably just get married." She said suddenly. "It'll be fun!"
Mina instantly cooed at them. "Izu, Aizawa is going to be your Uncle!" She exclaimed, hugging his arm.
Emi's smile immediately disappeared upon seeing Mina hug Izuku. "What is this?" She asked, pointing between the two before her eyes widened. "Gasp!"
Jirou sighed. 'Another one?'
"You have a girlfriend?!" Emi exclaimed. "And you didn't think to tell your favourite Auntie?!" She put a hand on her heart and tears rolled down her face. "You've beaten me in the love game, Zuku, I haven't even gotten Shota to date me yet."
'She even has the crying.' Aizawa shook his head. "Not happening."
Izuku looked at his teacher with new, emotionless eyes. "Better not." He warned, the tiniest bit of a glow around him. "But if you do, treat my Auntie right."
Aizawa sputtered and looked around confused. "I-" The man shook his head again and turned to the smile hero. "Never mind."
"Hey, class!" Emi called out to the students in grey shirts standing off to the side. "Come and meet my nephew and his classmates, they're from Yuuei!"
A student with curly, dark brown hair walked up to Izuku and held his hands. "I'm Shindo!" He greeted. "It's cool that you're all trying to be heroes despite all that you've been through." Aside from the hair colour and lack of scar, he almost looked like Izuku. (A.N: Random reminder that Izuku and Akira are actually a bit taller than Yo Shindo, both standing at a respectful 5'10 [178cm])
"Yeah…" Izuku's years of being an outcast and analysing people tipped him off before danger sense could even try. 'What is he playing at?' Social cues weren't his forte, but he was all too familiar with this type of person.
"And you basically would've died if All Might didn't give up his power for you!" Shindo added; the smiles wiped off of every Yuuei student and the atmosphere shifted.
Emi looked cross. "Shindo!" She yelled, smile fading immediately.
Aizawa's quirk activated and the brunette felt a piece of soul leave his body. "This is one of your second year's behaviour?" He looked at him unimpressed. 'Couldn't be my kids.'
Mina took hold of Izuku's hands and moved them away from Shindo with a scowl. "We don't need a reminder of that night."
Tokoyami appeared on Izuku's left with Shoji taking the greenette's right. Both did nothing except look at the curly-haired brunette, but everyone could feel the rage they kept underneath their calm masks.
Shindo shifted awkwardly at the stares and bowed low. "Um, I'm terribly sorry for bringing that up." He smacked himself on the head. "I... I went too far." 'Idiot, you're still trying to be a hero! What the hell was that?!'
Izuku could tell that he was genuinely apologising and decided to pat his head. "It's fine, Shindo." He said. "But if you get so lost in being fake that you slip up like that, you should take a good look into your character."
Everyone looked at Izuku like he'd grown a second head. "Nerd's right." Bakugou said, surprising the Yuuei students even more. "You're being genuine now, but your eyes weren't matching your face before."
"So just get out what you want." Akira agreeing with Bakugou was the last straw for a few of the students and they fell over. "No point in hiding it."
The brunette stood straight and nodded before he grinned. "Alright, I'll be honest, I can't wait to fight you guys!" Shindo exclaimed. "This is your warning."
"That's more like it!" Momo exclaimed, rubbing her hands together. "Battle!"
Aizawa sighed and began walking away. "Class, fall in." He commanded, dropping his quirk and rehydrating his eyes. "You can all socialise after; focus up."
As they all walked in, other schools looked at them in awe and anticipation. "I kind of forget that we're like celebrities in a sense with everything that happens with us." Jirou said, noticing their stares.
Ojiro nodded. "It's strange when you realise it, but ultimately makes sense when you think about it."
Emi's head tilted at the student's conversation as they walked off. 'Has he not told them?' She suddenly felt bad for her nephew. 'My poor, little Zuku.'
Outside the Exam Hall
The students of 1A stood proudly in their new, improved hero costumes. After seeing Izuku's files on them and their discussions nine days ago, most of them had overhauled their costumes with all of them solidifying a new fighting style or super move set. Luckily for them, Momo and Todoroki had paid VIP express for their costumes, meaning they got the most practice possible with them.
Aoyama's shining knight motif had changed more into a gentle hero. He wore white suit pants with armoured plating sewn through it and a form fitting white singlet with purple star patterns on it. The French-teen also had a red visor and a pair of sleek, metallic gauntlets running along his entire forearm.
Mina's overall idea hadn't changed but her colour theme and how much her costume covered did. The girl wore purple combat pants with a long-sleeved, form-fitting, white top with pink camouflage patterns that covered her neck. Her pants were held up with a belt containing medical supplies and she also wore dark pink combat boots and wrist bracelets. She finished her costume with a white mask covering her face.
Izuku had changed his costume completely, switching away from the Hawks inspired design. The bottom comprised of dark green combat pants tucked into black, iron-soled combat boots with red designs. His pants were secured with a black belt holding medical supplies and other surprises. He also wore a form fitting, enforced, green singlet tucked into his pants and compact, black metal bracelets on his forearms connected to dark, fingerless gloves. Finishing his costume, he had his regular mask and a black bunny hood with green lines over his head.
Akira has also changed his casual-teenager look to a more casual-hero look. He wore black combat pants with golden linings and a similarly coloured form-fitting black singlet with the tree of life symbol on the back in gold. His feet were completely deprived of any covering and he kept his fingerless black gloves with holes in the palm and finished the costume with a bulky golden visor.
Ochako's costume hadn't received much of a change except her gauntlets were now wrist shooters and the glass visor that her helmet had was now gone completely. (A.N: And thank God for that, imagine if it broke in her face.)
Ojiro's martial arts motif had completely been revised into a monkey king style. He wore loose red pants secured by a navy blue cloth and tucked into black, iron-soled combat shoes. On the top he wore a form-fitting black singlet and a pair of metallic gauntlets, as well as a red beaded necklace and a monkey mask on his face. Finishing the costume was a collapsible staff in a holster on his back.
Kaminari was another big change, shifting from a rocking teenager to a more martial art theme. He wore loose black pants, similar to those of Ojiro's, which were tucked into a pair dark boots with golden linings. His top consisted of a shadow-gold jinbei covered by a tight, black haori with golden lightning designs falling just at his waist.
Kirishima hadn't changed his costume much and had stuck true to his similar design. The only difference is that his headgear seemed to be more reinforced and his pants seemed a bit looser.
Koda's costume was form-fitting yellow pants tucked into dark grey bracers above his ankles and a form-fitting red singlet with yellow designs. He finished off the costume with a fur coat around his neck and a mask. His entire costume had been made with his hair as to not get in the way of his quirk's transformations.
Sato had changed his look from a spandex-wearing wrestler into a hooded brawler. He wore white combat pants and form-fitting, snug white singlet with a yellow hood, as well as yellow combat boots with iron soles. His forearms were covered by gauntlets and he had a belt across his chest with a number of different sugar supplies and insulin. He also had a bulky, yellow visor, similar to Akira's.
Shoji's costume held similar changes to Sato's. He now had dark, plated combat pants with blue lines going down the middle secured by a similarly coloured belt holding medical supplies. The pants were also tucked into a pair of dark combat boots with blue designs. His form-fitting singlet was now a dark no-sleeved hoodie with a strange three-faced demon design on the back and blue designs on the hood. (A.N: More or less a WHA/Three Musketeers vibe in his outfit.)
The only addition Jirou had made to her costume was a pair of gauntlets running along her forearms and a new bulky, tech-like, purple visor. She also had a pair of wireless headphones lying on her neck.
Sero had only made one change to his costume. His helmet had been reinforced and designed to show a smile in neon-blue pixels on the matte-black visor in front of his face. Aside from that and a few more paddings, his costume was fine.
Tokoyami's costume now held a more regal, dark-king atmosphere rather than a cloaked bystander. He wore an open hooded cloak with golden tassels hanging off the shoulders overtop a pair of black combat pants and boots and a dark, form-fitting, plated singlet. His costume was finished by a black-tinted visor custom made to fit his bird head.
Being Todoroki's second costume change, the teen only had minor changes. His short-sleeved, dark blue jacket now had a grey T-shape design on it and he added two new burgundy wrist guards with metal plating going up to his knuckles. Overall, it was a balanced costume.
Hagakure's costume held a very similar design to Todoroki's with the exception of her costume being on the lighter-blue side to match the colour of her hair. Furthermore, she had different designed gauntlets which were more or less plated gloves and her legs were looser and more open down the bottom and her jacket went up past her neck a bit.
Bakugou's costume seemed to get a pretty big change. He still kept his black combat pants with metal knee braces and black combat boots with orange markings, but now also had a similarly dark, long-sleeved top with an orange x-shape across the middle. His mask had also been made a bit spikier and he had a dark hood connected to his baggy long sleeve. Finally, his biggest change, the large grenade gauntlets had been replaced with sleek, matte black, metallic, gauntlets with wires running down to his boots.
Tsu seemed to have one of the biggest costume changes. She wore a black, form-fitting one-piece swimsuit with green lines going down the middle of her leg sleeves going up just past her chest. A similarly designed, lightweight, long-sleeved jacket going up around her neck with a frog-designed hood went over top that, and she finished the costume with tight black and green gloves. (A.N: Just think of Tsu if she had a WHA/Three Musketeers colour-theme and frog-hood.)
Iida was another big costume change. Whereas before people might've confused him for his brother, there was no doubt that this was Tenya Iida. He kept his pants and boots the same but switched out his top armour piece for a form-fitting, navy blue singlet with techno gold patterns and similarly coloured gauntlets decorating his arms. Finally, his helmet was replaced with a blue techno visor that went around his head entire head.
Finishing the class costume changes, Momo had finally switched out her revealing costume for a more female-warrior vibe. She had long black pants and boots with velvet-red patches and gold linings for the bottom and a form fitting, velvet-red singlet covering her entire upper-body up to her neck. Finally, the costume was finished with a red visor and a belt going across her chest with a number of medical supplies and snacks. The entire costume was made out of her hair so that it wouldn't interfere with her quirk.
"Dang, there's a lot of people here!" Hagakure exclaimed, looking out into the sea of hero students. "There's got to be at least like five dozen hero schools competing here."
A man in a formal suit at the front of the hall tapped his mic tiredly. "Welcome, everyone, to your provisional license… thingy." He groggily called out. "I'm Mera from the Heroes Public Safety Commission and I'm way too tired to be doing this."
The examinees all regarded him with a raised eyebrow. 'Wow.'
"Alright, orientation time." Mera said more to himself than the hero students. "Before we start, you should know that of the 1,540 students present… only 100 of you will be allowed to pass this first stage." At the outcry, he silenced them with a cough. "Our world is saturated with heroes, the time it takes from a crime being reported to being dealt with is fast, so fast it could make you sick." His eyes roamed around all of them. "If you can't keep up with this, then I'm sorry to tell you that the hero track may not be for you."
Izuku looked at his fists and clenched them. 'Just like with Hawks.'
Tokoyami also looked down to himself and steeled his resolve. 'Fast and efficient.'
"Now, onto your first task." Mera continued, holding out a small pad and a ball. "You all will be receiving three of these targets and will place them on an easily accessible and exposed part of your bodies and costumes." He explained. "You each will also be given six of these balls; the targets have been designed to only light up at the touch of these balls specifically."
A few of the students could already guess what the first task was. 'Is this…?'
"When all three of your targets are lit up, you're out." The beige-haired insomniac explained. "Note this, it doesn't matter who does the first two hits, the person delivering the third hit will get the point." Everyone nodded at the information and kept it in their heads. "You'll get through this round by defeating two people."
Everyone deadpanned. 'It's dodgeball.'
Mera looked them all over and decided that was enough from him. "Alright, time to open up."
"Open?" A few students asked aloud.
Immediately, the room around them shook before the roof split open, followed by the walls. In mere moments, they found themselves in an extremely large arena with multiple different areas. 'Oh my God, it's just like the USJ… but bigger!'
"You all have five minutes to get to a starting place." Mera yawned. "And be quick about it, I want this over so I can sleep."
'Mood.' Aizawa thought, watching his students all run off together. 'Good.'
"Did you really not tell them, Shota?" Emi asked, sitting directly behind him. "There's no way that you don't know about that."
Aizawa sighed but shook his head. "No, Emi, I didn't tell them."
The smile hero placed a hand on her chest. "I can't believe my little Zuku has to deal with all these people!" Emi cried dramatically. "You should've prepared him!"
Aizawa said nothing but hid a smirk underneath his scarf. 'Sure.'
Back in the arena, Class 1A kept close together in a tight-knit group. "We all know what's about to happen." Akira said to his classmates, stretching his arms. "They've seen us through the media, getting a good look at our powers and fighting styles."
Todoroki nodded. "The sports festival showed everyone who we were."
Momo grinned as she bounced around. "Too bad for them that we've changed."
"I'm going to enjoy this." Bakugou grinned as well, activating his new gauntlets.
The others in the class also activated their new support items with smiles. "First test…" Mera called on a P.A system. "Start!"
Their predictions immediately came true as at least eight schools surrounded them and began to assault them with their exam balls, some enhanced by their quirks. "Sorry!" Shindo called. "But I did warn you!"
The class got together and stood in a circle before four students took a side each.
"No warning needed, extras!" Bakugou shouted before blasting the area in front of him, completely blasting away every ball away.
Jirou clapped her hands together before putting them in front of her. "Heartbeat Wall!" Large, short-ranged soundwaves shot out of her palms and stopped every ball coming her way.
"Too slow." Todoroki lifted his right arm and a large pillar of ice froze the balls in place.
Izuku just shrugged his shoulders before 30% One For All washed his body and moved to his arms. The clap that he did next blew away both the balls that were thrown at his side, and the examinees that threw them.
Up in the stands, Aizawa looked back at Emi and decided this was worthy of showing her a smile. "I don't need to tell my kids that others will know who they are, they're smart enough to figure that out on their own." His smile dropped the next second. "Pro heroes don't have the luxury of others not knowing their quirks, and neither do they, their ability to overcome that and adapt is why they're good heroes."
At the end of his explanation, Emi was smiling widely. "Aw, Shota, you old softie!" She gave him a hug from behind. "You do care about them!"
"I guess this is to be expected." Shindo said as he shrugged his shoulders. "But they changed a lot more than I thought they would."
A student with long black hair caught a number of hardened balls from his classmate. "Let's see if they can block this." His quirk activated and the balls glowed purple before he threw them into the ground. "Boomerang: Crescent Moon Trajectory!" The balls could be heard moving at fast speeds through the ground towards them.
The balls suddenly shot out of the ground and moved towards Izuku's exposed back where all three of his targets lined on his spine. However, despite being able to sense them, he didn't move.
"Acid Veil!" Instead, Mina shot out a wall of acid in the air before controlling it to cover Izuku. The balls immediately dissolved at the acid and turned to nothing but goop. "Not my Izu." Mina said, dropping the wall.
"Aw, she's protecting him!" Emi squealed. "And you got them their super moves already!"
Aizawa nodded. "Of course." He had yet to remove the smile hero from his back.
However, Emi's mood change and she held a disappointed look. "But don't think that your students are the best, that attitude will turn the tables on you." She chided.
As if sensing his teacher's pride in him, Shindo knelt to the ground. "Everyone, back off!" He put his hands on the floor. "I'll break 'em up!"
Izuku's brain immediately deduced the possibilities of the teen's quirk from his hand placement and statement and he quickly flushed 30% into his arms again. "You're not the only one who can do that!"
They both sent their attacks at the same time. "Maximum Force, Tremoring Earth!/Quake!" The result was two ground-breaking moves that made a mini earthquake that threw away everyone in the area. Their clashing attacks were so powerful that a small mountain next to them split down the middle before crumbling down to the ground.
"…" Emi looked at her nephew and class rep's clash with a silent face.
Aizawa actually chuckled at her expression in an extremely rare show of happiness. 'She's finally stumped.' "I never said that I think my students are the best, I just know that they're fast adaptors."
Emi blushed at both his smile and comment but huffed. "We'll see."
Off in another section of the arena, Inasa was gathering wind around him like a tornado. "That clash… such power!" The winds around him grew stronger. "Such passion!" Wind so strong that the examinees below him could feel it gathered up every ball around him. "It makes my blood boil!" He brought down his hand and the balls dropped on every examinee in front of him in a devastating rain, taking all of them out. "This is what a hero should be!"
"Oh, someone's passed." Mera said, hearing his computer beep. "Let's see-" His eyes widened and his jaw went slack. "AH!" He exclaimed. "One person has taken out 120 people at once! He passes!" The man rubbed his eyes. "I'm definitely awake now, but can the rest of you still hurry it up please?"
Water Zone
Izuku shook his head mid-air and flipped himself upright before activating float, stopping just before the ground. 'Where'd I end up?' He looked behind him to find a large lake and an even bigger waterfall as well as layered mountain.
"Izuku!" The familiar voice of Tokoyami called out and the greenette turned towards him. "Good to see you're alright."
Izuku nodded. "Likewise." His eyes saw a flash of purple and he smiled. "Hey, Reverb!"
The purple-haired teen was falling towards them fast but wasn't screaming. She clapped her hands together and her gauntlets activated, folding out funnels that concentrated the soundwaves she shot out, stopping her fall.
"Yo!" Jirou greeted. "I think you went a bit overkill there, Izuku."
A bird cry alerted them of another person near and an extremely large eagle flew down towards them before shifting forms mid-air. As the now human landed, they could all see it was Koda. "Hello." He signed with a smile.
Izuku looked around with an expectant look. "Is that all of us that got blown back here?" After a few moments of silence he nodded. "Alright, well." He turned to his teammates. "Looks like we're all split into groups now, and regrouping would take too long, so this is what we're working with."
Tokoyami nodded. "The others will also surely deduce that fact." He stated. "So our best interest now is to find out how to eliminate at least eight people."
"I still got three of my balls." Jirou said, holding them up. "The others got lost in the blast."
Izuku popped out three from his bunny hood. "Three as well."
Tokoyami searched his cloak and found four. "I have four remaining."
Koda just held up two of his without saying anything.
"Alright…" Izuku looked around them and thought for a bit. "Well, I think our best course of winning here would be to take out our opponents first and then tagging them with our balls."
Jirou nodded in agreement. "Agreed, I suck at throwing." She laughed.
Koda and Tokoyami also nodded in agreement.
"Hold on." Danger sense went off in Izuku's head and he quickly punched the ground behind him, breaking the ground and sending back a group of three examinees. "Alright, we should probably get to higher ground." He smiled. "Good thing we can all fly, to the top of the mountain!" His hand pointed upwards before the rest of his body followed and shot off.
Jirou's gauntlets activated again and two concentrated soundwaves shot her up in a burst of speed. Next to her, Tokoyami brought out Dark Shadow and Koda shifted into a large eagle before the two birds both flew to catch up with her.
As they all reached the top, they began to scout the ground below them. "How about there?" Tokoyami pointed out. "Two groups of four fighting."
Jirou nodded. "Groups of two, take 'em from behind before eliminating them."
"They'll be too distracted to notice us." Koda signed.
Izuku smiled at their plan. "Perfect." His gauntlets activated, looking very similar to Jirou's. "I can also finally see if this funnel thing will be effective in an actual battle."
"Trust me, dude." Jirou said, activating her own. "They're doing great." She turned to Tokoyami and Koda. "You two take the two on the left, we'll take the right. Listen out for my signal before we attack." The two nodded and they both flew off again with her following shortly after. "Let's go!"
Izuku smiled as he shot off, following her. "Yes, ma'am!"
As Tokoyami and Koda arrived behind their opponents, they took the opportunity to analyse them. "One has made a shadow wall… another has a sword." He grinned. "And what I have to assume is two passives." His eyes roamed over the large deer monster as big as a house and an equally sized bi-pedal brown bear.
"I can take the big ones." Koda whispered with conviction. "I have something I want to try."
The bird-boy looked at his classmate with surprise but smiled. "Be my guest, Beast."
A large crash was heard and everyone looked to the sky to see a boulder. Soon after, a soundwave shot up at it and shattered it. While people were confused, Tokoyami and Koda took it as the signal.
"Let's go!" Tokoyami surrounded himself with Dark Shadow and rushed forward, taking the shadow-quirk user first. "Twilight Claw!" The poor examinee never saw him coming and was struck in the back, sending him into the dirt. A sword went to slash at Tokoyami but he blocked it with Dark Shadow.
"Another shadow-quirk user." The swordsman said before his blade glowed brightly. "Flaming Edge: Rising Sun!" He rushed forward with an upward slash that was met by Tokoyami's claw.
"Sorry, fellow hero." Tokoyami said, his darkness unphased by the fire. "But your light isn't strong enough." Dark Shadow grew stronger and he kicked the swordsman back. "Umbra Barrage!" It only took a number of slashes before that examinee too fell at Tokoyami's feet.
"Here we go!" Koda silently exclaimed before transforming into a large gorilla. "Ragh!" It wasn't as big as the others, but that meant he was harder to catch. "Whoo-whoo!" Koda shot first at the deer monster, punching the large creature in the chest, making it stumble back.
"Chop!" The bear mutant called out before moving his attention to Koda. "I've got you!" Slashing downwards, the bear mutant just missed Koda. 'Damn.'
Koda's form shifted into a jaguar and he shot up the bear's arm before turning back into a gorilla and smashing it's face in. "Grah!" He roared at him before giving him another two haymakers, knocking him to the ground.
"Borus!" The deer monster tried to grab Koda but he suddenly shifted into a large eagle and flew away. "Coward!"
Koda decided he would make the deer regret saying that and flew upwards as high as he could before he made a sharp turn. 'Coward… no.' Seeing his target, Koda shot down towards him at high speeds. Seconds before reaching him, his eagle form suddenly turned back into his gorilla form and he sent a large punch to the deer's face with the speed of an eagle. "Hoo-ha!" The devastating attack sent the student crashing to the ground with a large thud.
Off on the other side of the field, Izuku and Jirou seemed to have gotten the four natural elements as their opponents. "Come on!" Jirou shouted, blocking a water blast with a short-range soundwave. "That all you got?"
The tan-skinned girl that was her opponent flicked back her brown hair before dodging another soundwave. "Fine then!" She exclaimed, moving next to the lake. "Ocean's Wrath: Tsunami!" A large wave of water raised above her before it converged on the purple-haired teen.
However, Jirou just grinned. "There it is!" She held her hands out and concentrated. "Heartbeat Wall!" A soundwave as large as the wave blocked the water before Jirou pushed forward again. "Pulse!" The wave was sent back to its sender and Jirou took the opportunity to flank around the side.
The tan-skinned girl quickly activated her quirk to make the wave miss her and moved it back into the lake. "Huh?" However, she completely missed where Jirou went.
"Over here!" Jirou was rushing in from the side, hovering off the ground. "Flatline!" Her arm hit the girl with a lariat and she took her to the ground, knocking her out. "Did you really just watch me do all of that and not help?" She asked the white-haired teen that was her other opponent.
Said teen shook his head. "If she couldn't even take you by herself, then she has no right to become a hero." His scars glowed white and he smirked. "Heroes must have power, there is no room for the useless." He laughed maniacally. "Only those like I are worthy of the glory and fame, weaklings like her have no place!"
"Legato." Jirou didn't even shout as her gauntlets activated and sent an extremely powerful and compressed soundwave to the wind-quirk user. "What a prick."
Over with Izuku the teen simply punched away another rock pillar with his fists. "Sorry." He said as he flashed behind his opponent. "But this license is an important step for me." Chopping the girl on the back of the neck, his opponent was out like a light.
"Majestic Sun!" A sea of flames suddenly shot towards Izuku, courtesy of a red-haired fire user.
Seeing the flames, Izuku felt his scar tingle a little, before standing his ground. "Not this time!" 20% One For All rushed through his body and he clapped his hands, splitting the fire and making it go around him. Continuing with an attack, Izuku's gauntlets activated and he punched forward, sending a fast and powerful, compressed air blast at his opponent, knocking them into a rock.
"Yo, Izuku!" Jirou called out. "I think that's all of them!" She had grabbed her two opponents and dragged them over to him.
Izuku nodded and smiled as he saw Tokoyami and Koda bring over two large opponents. "You two have fun?"
They both nodded. "Looks like we pass then." Tokoyami said.
Koda smiled. "We did it!" He quietly exclaimed.
Izuku flew off and grabbed his opponents before they all tagged them together, passing the exam. Up in the observation room, Mera smiled. "Alright, another four have passed, finally." He still didn't think it was enough though. "But that's still only five percent, so please hurry."
Arena Stands
"Hey, look, Zuku made it!" Emi exclaimed cheering for her nephew. "Good job, sweetie, I'll make sure to tell your Mum and Dad for you!" She settled back down behind Aizawa. "Look at that, four of the top five are your students."
Aizawa smiled for a small second before it disappeared. "I'll be happy when the rest of them pass." He said, looking over to another group of his students.
Factory Area
"Ten bucks that was Izuku." Akira said as he walked along the pipes.
Todoroki smiled. "That's a fool's bet."
Ochako smiled as well. "Yeah, he's really crazy like that sometimes." She said. "It's like two different people inside of him!"
Akira thought about it for a moment before nodding. "Yeah, I guess you're right." He conceded. "He's got his nice side, then his battle side, two completely different people."
"Doesn't make him any less effective." Todoroki added. "Besides, we all have a little bit of trauma here and there."
Akira nodded immediately. "Oh, definitely; when I was a kid, the hero commission tried to-" His hand automatically shot out and he caught a ball.
"Well, that was a surprise." A new voice called. "But not entirely." Looking behind them, the Yuuei students found themselves facing ten hero students in ninja costumes.
"Seijin High School, I presume?" Todoroki asked, observing their uniform.
The red ninja looked at him with surprise. "You know of us?" He smiled. "That almost makes me feel bad for what I'm about to do." His hand reeled back and he threw a nut at them.
Akira knew that something had to happen and was rewarded with the nut growing to an enormous size. "Right." His quirk flushed his body and he poured his power into his fists and feet before catching the projectile.
"My turn!" Ochako said sweetly, touching the large metal piece and turning off its gravity. "Return to sender!" The girl picked it up with ease and expertly threw it back at a much faster speed.
"Crap!" Four of the ninja moved at once to stop the nut. A student in black shot out a torrent of water while a student in blue next to him shot out a wave of mud from hers. It didn't stop it fully, however, and was only stopped when two students in yellow pushed against it.
Unfortunately for them, that team effort distracted them long enough for Todoroki to flank their side. "Sorry, but we need these licenses." Lifting his right arm, a powerful ice wave sent them all into the air. "Go!"
Akira and Ochako both sent themselves up to the flying Seijin students and took them out without a problem. Ochako grappled two with her hooks and sandwiched a third student in between them before shooting off to another student and dropping to the ground on top of them. Akira took a less violent approach and weaved through all of his opponents like water, knocking them in their pressure points, sending them into the realm of unconscious.
"Nice work." Todoroki praised as they all returned to the ground. "That was a lot easier than I thought it would be." His targets glowed as he took out two of the students.
Akira nodded. "Yeah, I expected more from second years."
"I'm not complaining!" Ochako sweetly exclaimed, quickly getting her pass. "Now let's go rest for the second task!" She moon-bounced away with a smile.
City Area, Random Empty Building
"I'm bored!" Momo exclaimed, bouncing uncontrollably. "Where are the fighters?!"
Shoji shrugged. "They'll get to us eventually." He said, a few ears on the wall. "Hmm… I'm picking up a few steps at the bottom floor…" A smile crossed his face as he heard extremely loud music – and one of his favourite songs – play. "Oh yeah, we got incoming."
Tsu stood up. "Really, kero?"
Momo turned to Shoji with stars in her eyes. "Really?!" The glass suddenly shattered and they all quickly moved behind some cover. "Yes, finally!"
Shoji chuckled at the Heiress' attitude. "Alright, loud music, shooting at the windows." The multi-armed teen hummed. "Based off of that, they're trying to block my eyes and ears."
"Which means…" Tsu's eyes shifted to the door. "They're probably going to be outside soon." Her eyes widened as she felt the air get colder. "Smart bastards, kero."
Momo, however, was thrilled. "They've properly made a trap for us!" She squealed as steel reinforcement fell over the windows and the door was welded shut. "It's my time!" Her hand was suddenly covered in a comically large gauntlet and she smashed one of the steel reinforcements off the building. "You good now, Tsu?"
The frog-girl shrugged. "My new jacket has a built in heater for situations like this, so I'm fine, kero." She had put her hood on, covering her eyes. "I'm going to enjoy kicking whoever did this."
Shoji peaked outside of the whole Momo made and his eyes locked on to a sniper. "I found our sniper." He easily dodged the projectile that was sent at him. "Very top of the building across from us."
Momo's gauntlet went back into hero body before a special machine gun took its place. "My time!" She put herself into the open and started screaming. "Genesis Bullet Barrage!"
On the other building, the brown-haired sniper screamed and quickly took cover as the tide was turned on her. "What the hell?!" An explosion caught her attention and she saw where she was stationed blown to bits. "…Nope." With that, she walked off. "License ain't worth this, I still got next year."
"I think you got them, kero." Tsu croaked. "Now we just need to find out how to get outside."
Momo huffed with a grin as her machine gun went back into her arm. "We punch it off!" She grabbed a Super-Stacked-Snack BarTM from the belt across her chest and devoured it. "And then we test out how these babies…" Her gauntlet reappeared, this time on both fists. "Work on people."
Tsu and Shoji nodded before moving back, letting the onyx-haired girl do her thing. "So, do we help out or…?" He covered his face as she blew the door off its hinges with a single punch.
"I want to test stuff out." Tsu said, bouncing in place. "So yes." She suddenly flashed out of Shoji's sight before appearing behind a student in a welding mask. "Hippity Hoppity…" Her foot sent the girl to the ground. "Axe!"
Momo dodged a tendril of brown hair and grabbed it tightly before pulling. "Hahaha!" She took the girl with glasses down to the floor with a clothesline before rolling to the side. "Come on!" Her roll allowed her to dodge a hammer and she stood up properly. "Yes…."
Shoji rushed up towards a girl with white hair and grabbed her tentacle arms before heaving her in the air. "Sorry about this." He said before slamming her into a girl with claws and a metal pole extending from her palm.
Two other girls tried to rush up behind him but Tsu flashed above them. "He's sorry, but I'm not!" She kicked the two in the face, knocking them out. "That cold air could've sent me into hibernation."
Momo smiled at their work and all three of them turned to their last opponent. "You used your quirk to attack…" The adversary in question was a periwinkle-haired girl with a monocle. "And in such a rough matter."
"I know, it was so much fun!" Momo exclaimed before she tapped her ball on the two girls she took out. "There's not really any point in taking you out since we can just get them."
Tsu and Shoji followed her lead and their targets turned blue. "All examines that have passed, please move to the second waiting area."
"And that's 38 that have passed now." Mera's voice called out. "Still not enough though, we haven't even gotten halfway!"
"We leave you to continue as a mercy." Shoji said as they walked out. "Good luck on the rest of your exam."
With that, the three left, leaving the monocle girl stumped. 'What the hell just happened?' And for the first time ever as well, it seemed. 'I'm braining so hard my think hurts… wait, no, what?'
Bridge Area
"Well…" Bakugou started as he looked in front of his group. "This looks fucking terrible."
Kaminari nodded. "I know I shouldn't judge quirks, and I'm sorry that I am, but this looks really weird."
"I will grant you an exception because of your apology." The purple-haired student ahead of them that caused the destruction said. "Also because I know my quirk isn't the most… aesthetically pleasing."
"Hey, it's still a pretty cool quirk!" Kirishima exclaimed, trying to salvage some good feelings. "Great for capture, saving as well if the civilians don't mind… that."
The purple-haired student smiled. "Thank you, it's nice to see Yuuei students that uphold the school's reputation." He explained. "I take pride in our schools being regarded as equals, but I'm sorry to say that we must battle now."
Kaminari stepped forward before his two classmates could. "Sorry, guys." Electricity crackled around him as he activated his quirk. "But I want to take him."
Bakugou grunted but stepped back. "Fine, but I'm next if you don't win." He let Kirishima take his arm and the two leaned against the bridge rails.
"You got this, Raikiri!" Kirishima exclaimed.
Kaminari took a breath and his Lightning Hood appeared. "I heard that chick from earlier, Shishikura, right?" He asked, eyebrow raised.
The Shiketsu student nodded. "Yes, but my hero name is Shishikross."
The electric blonde nodded. "Well, Shishikross, I formally challenge you, one-on-one." He got into a stance, ducking low and hands to his side.
Shishikura got into his own stance, leaning forward with his hands behind his back. "I accept." Immediately, large, floating flesh-balls shot towards Kaminari.
However, in an unexpected show of speed, Kaminari flashed out of sight. "Raijin Rush!" He came in from the side and knocked Shishikura in the face before bouncing back and kneeing him in the stomach. His attacks were all enhanced by his electricity, knocking Shishikura around.
'He's different than when he was in the sport's festival!' The purple-haired student thought as he dodged around another hit. 'And it's hard to touch him when he keeps shocking me.'
Kaminari suddenly appeared right in front of Shishikura. "Hi!" Before kneeing him in the stomach and flashing directly backwards, a streak of yellow lightning following him. "This is it…" He held his hand out, electricity gathering around it.
'He's bluffing.' Shishikura smirked. "I saw the sport's festival; I was there in person." He said. "You can't control your electricity as a beam." His flesh gathered around him as he regained his bearings.
"You sure about that?" Kaminari smirked back. "Thunder Shell!" As he pushed his hand forward and shot a pillar of lightning towards his opponent, he thought about what Akira had told him.
"You can't make straight, ranged attacks unless your lightning has an ionised path, otherwise it'll make its own and branch off everywhere." The black-haired teen had explained. "If you use your lightning armour at a high output and run in a straight line, that should ionise that area ahead of you long enough to shoot a few straight beams, but you have to be quick."
"Agh!" Shishikura felt the volts of electricity pass through his body and could only get out one thought as unconsciousness took hold of him. 'Truly, they are a worthy rival school.'
"Finally." Bakugou said, rubbing his gauntlets together. "I get my turn!" He turned to Kaminari with a smile. "Good job, Raikiri, let's see if you can continue not being an idiot."
Kirishima smiled. "Yeah, good job, bro!" His arms hardened and he turned to the examinees getting up. "Whoever gets them last loses… and buys lunch."
Kaminari put his Lightning Hood back up. "Thanks, guys." He said before rushing forward. "And I'm not paying this time!"
Broken Battlefield
"Another three have passed." Mera called out on the P.A system. "And with that, we have 20 passes left to go around, hurry up!"
"That guy needs to take a chill pill... or sleep." Mina said as she spun around. "But we probably should hurry up, don't want to be left behind." An acid coating covered her arms. 'I bet Izu was one of the first ten.'
Hagakure nodded. "Yeah, at this rate we might not get through." Light began to gather around her arms and they glowed brightly. 'Nice, it's holding up.'
"We're in the last portion of the exam." Ojiro started, taking his staff out from his back. "So that means everyone will be coming out of their hiding spots for a free-for-all." He put his monkey-mask over his face.
Sato popped open a vile of sugar. "Then we better get going." His arms buffed outwards before he compressed them downwards.
"We've got to be fast on our takedowns." Sero said, tape ready. "Because everyone we've taken out so far keeps getting stolen from someone around a corner."
Aoyama activated his Nova Blade and nodded. "We have a large group ahead of us, and I can see some of their targets have been hit." His eyes narrowed. "If we're quick, we can steal a few ourselves."
"I don't like the idea of stealing, but I can't disagree that we must employ this idea." Iida said, holding a ball in each hand. "Let's go, friends!" His engines roared and he shot off into the middle of the battlefield, immediately having opponents jump out at him. "Revving Rush!" However, they mattered not as a number of engine powered kicks knocked them all away.
Hagakure suddenly flashed into existence in front of an examinee and waved. "Yo!" She disappeared and re-appeared to his left. "On your left." The teen punched next to them but Hagakure disappeared and re-appeared behind him. "Photon Flash!" Her light-infused fist hit her opponent's face, knocking him out instantly.
"Kitsune Cover!" A large foxtail emerged from Ojiro and he wrapped it around himself, blocking an onslaught of energy attacks. After feeling it stop, he smiled. "Scorpion Slash!" His tail changed into a scorpion's and he whipped it around him, knocking multiple examinees into the air.
"Nice one, Tails!" Sero said as he wrapped one of the flying opponents in tape. "Trident!" He spun them around before forcing them into another examinee. "Hey, who cut my tape?" His eyes shifted to the left and he narrowly dodged a leg swipe before wrapping the assaulter in tape. "Trident Thrust!" Pulling hard, Sero sent his knee into his opponent's chest, forcing them into the ground and the realm of unconsciousness.
Sato blocked a downwards strike from a large rock golem and grinned. "You're pretty strong!" He exclaimed, his arm steaming. "But I didn't train like hell to get beaten by this; Sugar Stack Strike!" His fist shot forward and he forced the stone-behemoth back into a wall before jumping towards him. "Sugar Rush!" The onslaught of attacks was too much for his opponent and he won their bout.
"You're all artists with your blades, my friends." Aoyama said as he blocked another two strikes and jumped over another one. "But I…" A second Nova Blade came out of his other hand. "Am the DaVinci!" He spun around like a tornado, knocking away all of his opponents before flashing between all of them. "It is done." Mere moments after deactivating his blades, his opponents fell.
"Acid Dome!" Mina had created a river of acid and was swinging it around her in a dome. "Sorry, boys, but this queen isn't done for yet!" She dropped her acid wall before skating towards her opponents with acid covering her entire body. "Acid Man!" The others didn't stand a chance as Mina knocked them all away without having to worry about their attacks. "And that's a pass!" Her body exited the construct and she quickly tapped two opponents.
"Sweet, is that all of us?" Sero asked, his targets blue.
Ojiro put away his staff and put up his mask. "Looks like it."
"A job well done, friends!" Iida praised, chopping the air.
Sato chuckled. "Feels like we overtrained for this." He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
"Nonsense, you can never be too prepared." Aoyama said, flicking his hair.
"Let's just get going!" Hagakure exclaimed. "I want to see the others!" They all laughed before walking off.
Stands
"Look, all your students passed!" Emi shouted, pointing to the last group of seven walking into the pass room. "And a few of my ones got in as well!"
"I expected nothing less of them." Aizawa said coolly. Internally, however, he gave a big sigh of relief. 'Really cutting it close there.'
"Finally, you've all passed!" Mera's voice exclaimed over the speakers. "Thank you, God!" They could hear his sighs of relief before he cleared his throat. "Can all who failed please leave the exam arena promptly, thank you."
