"You set me up?"
It was a questioned that remained unanswered. Alex's eyes swept back and forth trying to avoid contact from John. He couldn't look at him. Not yet. He didn't think John would react this way. He didn't want to do what he did in the first place, anyway. Those bastards Thomas, JAmes, and Aaron corrupted him. Saying he would achieve possible invincibility by doing one little task. He didn't know how much damage it would bring into Alex and John's relationship.
He hung his head low and slumped. The guilt weighing down on him. He couldn't take it anymore. He looked up feebly at John's face and winced. John's brows furrowed, his jaws clenched and he looking down at him with dislike.
"John," he took a sharp breath "I'm so-"
"Save it.", John spat. "You betrayed me. You've lost my trust."
Alex knew it was pointless to even talk him out of it, but it was John. He had to try. "Y-you don't understand!", he shook his head.
From across the table, he saw Thomas's eye glinting in the dark. By his side was James and Aaron. He glared at them as they grinned smugly. They put him up to this!
"What don't I understand, Alex?", John looked at him miserably. His arms crossed and eyes flickered.
"I-It's not my fault!", he raised his voice "They p-put me up to this!"
John turned and looked over at the three for a moment and turned back around. Alex, expecting everything to be okay, sighed.
"So you're siding with them?", John whispered.
"No, no, no that's not what I-"
"I thought you liked me! You said we'd stay together till the end!", John turned and faced Alex with a pained face. "I thought you cared about you're just a lying rat!"
"I have to do this. It's our only chance of ending this cycle of torture an-and and hatred." Alex's stuttered. "I've thought about it and-"
"You used me-"
"Please! I can do it if you give me a chance!"
It was quiet for a moment. John set his hands on the table. "You've already hurt me multiple times."
Alex looked wearily at John. He continued. "You don't have to do it. I can help you get out of this situation. You just need to wait a little longer!"
"No. I'm not like Burr!" he spat. This is our only chance!"
John pleaded, "Please I can reverse it! We'll turn the tables. Together"
Alex turned away, eyes filling up with tears, "I'm sorry"
"No," John choked back the tears, "Please"
It was already too late. Alex grabbed something from his pocket. He took out the +4 card and set it down, ignoring the approval of Thomas, James, and Aaron, and the shocked gasp of John.
b "Uno."
