A/N Thank you all for reviewing!
Present—Salvatore Boarding House
"I feel like I slept on a cloud."
Licking blood from his lips, Zavi eyes snapped to the source as she emerged from the hallway."Damon's beds are comfier than our own."
A dressed Feyona wandered into the large Salvatore kitchen, heels clacking against the marble floor. Depositing her hairbrush on the table, she directed a warm smile at Zavi as she passed him before she seated herself in the nearest chair. Her smile quickly faltered, however, when a faint pain persisted. Feyona let out a moan of pain, sitting down at the table, rubbing her temples to soothe her hangover as she looked behind her, where her other half was carrying over two mugs.
He left behind a young woman, who was wrapping a bandage around her wrist. She blankly blinked several times at Zavi and, after a sharp nod from him, she made her way out of the back door.
"Nonsense."Zavi nudged the door shut behind the human with his foot before ambling his way over to the table."It onlyseemed comfier, perhaps, because you were seeing two of everything when we went to bed."
"Huh?"Feyona tucked a loose lock of hair behind her ear, brow furrowing."Are you sure?"
Feyona tipped her head back to meet his eyes when Zavi's hand journeyed down from the back of her head to her back, fingers tangling in her hair occasionally. His eyes flickered with tender amusement when he studied her expression.
"You were more than willing to sleep on the staircase. I'm sure."He leaned down and pressed his mouth to her forehead, a murmur following when he pulled back a few inches."Vampire tolerance can only do so much when you're making your way through the Salvatore stash."
Crimson lips forming a thoughtful 'O', Feyona pondered his argument before promptly nodding with a quick smile. She felt him smile against her skin, eyes trailing after him when he eventually pulled away. He deposited a mug in front of her before he took the seat beside her, and Feyona wasted no time in reaching for it.
"What's the verdict on the Mystic Falls cheerleading co-captain?"
Lapping up the remnants of what had missed her mouth, Feyona hummed in satisfaction. She brought the rim of the mug to her lips a second time, then a third before setting it back down. Mug in his grasp, a droplet of crimson tracking down the side, Zavi licked red from his lips.
"Quite palatable then?"
The words had barely left his mouth when soft lips captured his own.
Peppering small kisses along his jaw, Feyona nestled in closer when Zavi cocked his head so she could have more access. Her body vibrated when a growl rumbled in his throat. He ducked his head to meet her searing gaze when she pulled back, fingers absent-mindedly brushing across the tattoo etched on her cheekbone.
"You take such good care of me."Feyona quietly mused, thumb tugging at his lower lip, fingers splayed across his cheek."What would I do without you, hmm?"
Mouth stretching into a smile, Zavi's pupils dilated.
"That's something..."
The couple lifted her heads as a drawn out, sonorous lamenting traveled from the lounge then into the hallway, intermixed with huffed cursing. The pounding of heavy footsteps, which had more weight behind them than necessary, followed in time with the groaning.
"Finally, the man of the hour!"Zavi called out through Feyona's barely stifled tittering, lifting his mug in welcome.
Damon waved a dismissive hand at the greeting when he finally showed his face."My head. Feels like I spent the entire night headbutting the headboard."
The Salvatore stressed his statement by rubbing at his temples as he all but collapsed into the chair across from them.
"So a typical night for then?"
Quirking an eyebrow at his friend, Damon lazily nodded over at Feyona."Why don't you direct that question to Fee?"
Zavi's head snapped up at that and he forced his expression into feigned anger. The corners of his mouth twitched, however, which gave him away. Even in his state, Damon managed to wink at Zavi while slumping back against his chair. But the amusement swiftly drained from him as the thumping in his head returned.
"Pay no attention to him."Feyona chirped anyways, eyes twinkling playfully."He's a mere boy."
Damon's hands fell from his face from where he'd been rubbing his eyes, and he fixed Feyona with tired annoyance. Zavi huffed out a chuckle, loud and booming, just to drive in the annoyance and hopefully worsen Damon's affliction.
Damon lifted his head to look at Zavi but couldn't find the strength to glower, and instead made a mental note to muster up some payback when his head wasn't throbbing.
"I wanna look around today."Feyona declared, bright-eyed and eager."Maybe meet Damon's friends."
Holding a hand up in protect, Damon parted his lips to instantly shut down the idea. But Zavi piped up before he could even form the words.
"We're the only friends he has, remember?"He casually reminded, blatantly ignoring Damon's glower burning into the side of his head. He smiled as he promptly added."But i'm up for sightseeing and mingling."
"Not funny."Damon ground out with a roll of his eyes, reaching across the table to snatch Feyona's mug in an act of revenge."And i don't think that would be a good idea."
"Why not?"
He gulped down what was left of the bloody beverage."Because I'd like to keep them alive, Fee."
As if he'd rewarded her with praise, she inclined her head with a simper. Zavi, however, picked up on the unease his friend spoke with and cocked his head with a pondering hum. He went to speak on it but, before he could, insistent knocking thundered through the halls and into the kitchen. The knocking persistent on until something thudding against a wall overwhelmed previously pleasant mood.
While Feyona inquisitively peered at the door, wondering what was going on down the hall, Zavi watched turned to look at his friend.
"Sounds like you have company."
"Sounds like I may have to invest in a doggy door if this crap keeps happening,"Damon muttered under his breath, slamming his hands on the table before he stood.
Pushing his chair back under the table in annoyance, Damon made a move to exit the kitchen. He barely took half a step before he was whirling around to face the couple when his ears picked up on chair legs scraping against the tile.
"No, nope! Stay."He shook his head, holding out a hand to reinforce his demand.
Zavi idly glanced at the hand Damon held out then met his friend's gaze, frowning at him in bemusement.
"Really?"
Eyebrows knitting together, Feyona looked utterly affronted."But-"
"Stay!"
She slumped down back into her chair with an overstressed pout and crossed her arms over her chest grudgingly.
Clamping his hands on the back of Feyona's chair, Zavi lifted a shoulder."Okay."
Damon served them one last look of warning before he turned and trudged out of the kitchen, fists clenched at his sides. The listened as he made his way down the hallway and, once his steps were indistinct, Feyona was already up and flouncing in the direction of the door.
When she failed to feel Zavi's presence behind her, Feyona turned to catch sight of him over her shoulder. He was still rooted behind her chair, watching her with amusement.
"Come on."She beckoned him to follow, but he was already at her heels.
"Duchess?"Zavi called after her, quickening his pace to take her hand when she wiggled her fingers impatiently."Have I mentioned how much I adore you?"
Feyona answered by gyrating round and round under Zavi's arm, squeezing his hand tightly. She followed a step behind, allowing him to lead her into the lounge once picking up on his hesitance. There was tension in the boarding house, they'd picked up on it once they'd seen on Damon's face. The unexpected caller was not welcome.
The couple came up behind Damon, Feyona tugging impatiently on Zavi's hand.
"Who is it?"
Focus trained on his friend's tense shoulders, Zavi opened his mouth to respond but Damon churlishly beat him to it.
"Klaus. Just what a man wants to see when he wakes up with a hangover."
Her eyes rounding in wonder at the name, Feyona exhaled a startled breath. Klaus.
The aforementioned Original had unhesitatingly made himself at home it appeared. Comfortably seated in one of the armchairs with a tumbler of whiskey in hand and the still opened bottle in the other—Damon's favorite whiskey, Feyona noted—Klaus welcomed Damon with an affable nod.
"Hello, Damon."
Damon folded his arms over his chest defensively."What are you doing here? You got a thing for switching Salvatores, too?"
"Good morning to you, too."Making a show of rolling his eyes at Damon's lack of manners, Klaus set aside the bottle on the table alongside the armchair."I'm merely popping in to borrow a cup of sugar."
"Sorry, don't have any."Damon forced a smile on his face, carefully taking a step back to gauge the hybrid's temperament."I put vervain in my tea. We have a lot of that if you'd prefer."
Bowing his head with a laugh, Klaus tapped his fingertips against the glass almost musingly. When he finally raised his head to look at Damon, his eyes were stormy.
"You are the one with the most help of getting me what I need."Klaus conversationally said, swirling the whiskey before he downed what was left of his drink.
"Yeah, you've said that already."
Klaus deposited now empty tumbler on the table beside the bottle, the sharp sound of glass hitting wood resulting in Damon grimacing. Going by the slow smile that worked its way onto Klaus' face, he'd noticed and appreciated the reaction.
"Then you know that this doesn't have to be an ugly affair."Klaus fluidly rose to his feet, and the sight of him stood seemed to unnerve Damon because the laugh he let out was patently strained.
"Oh, really?"
The Original took a calculated step forward after a moment of scrutinizing Damon, only to retrace that step when picking up on Damon shifting from foot to foot. Feyona's eyes followed each step Klaus took, heeding how each once was done with purpose and after consideration.
"Really. I just want my family back."
"You, uh..."Damon scratched the back of his neck, a habit Feyona instantly noticed was something he did whenever stressed."you mean the family you stored in coffins for centuries on end?"
Klaus' false friendly smile lost strength and twisted into something bitter."Not concurrently, but yes, those are the ones."
"I don't know where your coffins are."
"That's a fib."Feyona chimed in scoldingly, unintentionally dropping her friend right in it. Her proclamation resulted in Klaus' eyes seeking her out while Damon hastily dived at her."You don't lie to your elders, Damon, what-"
The rest of Feyona's sentence came out a garbled mess when Damon bundled her in his arms and cupped a hand over her mouth. The impetus resulting from the series of movements sent Damon staggering on his feet. He pulled Feyona up against him who, at Zavi's soothing behest, put up no fight.
"Oh, Fee, you silly girl!"He cried out once Klaus' eyes finally honed in on them.
Klaus perked up when his gaze finally landed on the unfamiliar and thoroughly befuddled female vampire. She put up no fight to Damon's snaring of her. Zavi protectively grabbed his lover's hand as Klaus flashed over to the eldest vampire in the room, towering over her while she stared up at Damon in confusion.
"I don't know you,"Klaus observed, eyes flickering between Feyona and Zavi curiously. He cleared his throat, eyes dancing with regalement when he looked over Feyona's shoulder at Damon."I don't know them."
"Long-time friends. Who know nothing."
"Considering what I'm witnessing, Damon..."Klaus tilted his head, a distinctive smirk curving at his mouth. He scanned Feyona from head to toe."I have a feeling that you're telling me a fib."
Still muted by Damon's hand, Feyona glanced out of the corner of her eye to try and catch sight of the Salvatore. He was positively inquisitive when he noticed that, instead of seeming bewildered or perturbed, her eyes were dancing with merriment.
"You."
Feyona turned to face him when she realized he was speaking to her, brow elevated questioningly.
"So he does know where my family is, does he?"
Feyona nodded in confirmation. Gaze drifting from her features and up to Damon, Klaus smirk broadened.
"She's not in the right state of mind."Damon chuckled with a shrug, pressing his palm tighter against Feyona's mouth."She's still drunk and—hey!"
Damon grit his teeth to refrain from an outcry of pain when Klaus' hand caught his own in an unrelenting grasp. Bones began to give way under the unyielding pressure until they slowly started to splinter as Klaus peeled Damon's hand from Feyona's mouth.. the bones of his fingers while he peeled the hand from Feyona's mouth.
"Damon, don't interrupt the lovely lady."
When he'd succeeded in removing Damon's hand from Feyona, Klaus dragged the younger male over to him. Damon fell to his knees in front of Klaus who calmly stared down at him once he'd released the Salvatore's hands.
He allowed the younger male a moment of relief before he ended their confrontation with a heavy punch across Damon's face. And the little strength he used for the impact was enough to knock the younger man unconscious. Damon slumped to the side before unceremoniously heaving down onto the ground at Klaus' feet.
"That wasn't necessary."Zavi somberly commented.
Resting his weight on one foot, Klaus leaned off to the side so he could get a better look at Zavi, arching an eyebrow. He studied the vampire a moment with a look of confusion, as if he hadn't properly registered Zavi's presence until then.
"Neither was your interference, mate, but let's agree to disagree."
Jaw tightening at the Original's flippancy, Zavi shook his head and parted his lips to reply. He barely had time to form the words or register Klaus' looming figure charging at him. Klaus carelessly silenced the younger man with a resounding snap of his neck. He caught Zavi before he could collapse only to indifferently throw him aside before retracing his steps.
Straightening his jacket, Klaus heaved a sigh."Now. Where were we?"
The moment Zavi fell to a heap by her feet, motionless and vulnerable, Feyona's features went ghastly white with anguish. Feyona let out a distraught whimper, eyes wide with incredulity and upset. The shrill scream interjected into Klaus' demands about the whereabouts of his kin. In a fluster, she slowly lowered herself onto her knees before beside Zavi, hands fussing over him.
Fingers stroking his cheek before they took hold of his chin, Feyona shook her head."Treasure?"
A hand seized her wrist and, with an urgent tug, Feyona's hand released Zavi's cheek. Her eyes snapped to the hand that had grasped her wrist, her gaze crawling up his arm then face until she met his gaze. Feyona gave no protest or struggle as Klaus yanked her to her feet. Without Feyona's cradling, Zavi limply trundled off to his side and landed beside Damon.
"Hush now."Klaus sternly ordered, the corner of his mouth curving when Feyona instantly complied."Damon's friend. I don't know you."
"I know you."Feyona stage whispered conspiratorially.
Despite her preoccupation with Zavi's wellbeing, Feyona's red lips stretched into a radiant grin. Her eyes darted across Klaus' features, lips parted in awe at the mightiness his grip possessed.
"You were saying you know where my family is?"
"Uh-huh."She breathed, a ghost of a smile playing at her lips.
He narrowed his eyes at her, taking note of how rapidly her disposition had altered from devastation to engaging. Her green-blue eyes, that had just been shining with unshed tears, were now wide and curious—almost frisky—as she stared up at him.
"And where might they be?"
Feyona finally tuned in wholly to the conversation when Klaus loosened his grip on her. She almost protested but found her mind wandering to something even more worth bringing up.
"Will there be a reward?"She carefully questioned, fervently cognizant of his mercurial nature. Eyes flickering across his features, Feyona turned to look when she felt his grasp on her retighten."I'm an avid votary, you know."
A scarcely suppressed giggle bubbled in her throat when he yanked on her arm again, pulling her further into his personal space. Feyona's breathing labored when she was close enough to pick up on the snarl rumbling in Klaus' chest. She lifted her head to peer up at him and gauge his expression and, instead of finding his infamous rage glaring down at her, she found slight amusement.
"Is that what you want?"
Distracted by how Klaus was gradually liberating her from his hold, Feyona's response was a mere whisper.
"Yessir."
"You tell me what I want to know..."Klaus allowed himself to linger when he let her go, his fingers skimming her wrist and the back of her hand before her arm dropped back by her side."and I'll treat you to much more."
Feyona arched a curious eyebrow at him.
"You will?"
"I will."Klaus imitated her awed tone, sounding almost reassuring. But the glazed over sheen in his eyes informed Feyona differently and she responded with a broader grin."Anything for such a sweet girl."
Klaus' eyes narrowed when, abruptly, Feyona's grin steadily faltered.
"You hurt Zavi."Feyona cooly stated, tone still laced with respect, but Klaus knew better.
The way her vibrant hues billowed as her eyes bore into him, how they swam with carefully concealed forewarning informed him of how he needed to play along. So he played. He pursed his lips as he held up his hands in feigned surrender and bowed his head as if he were truly repentant.
Lifting her chin in approval, Feyona toyed with her lower lip to hide a smile while she watched him.
"I'm sorry."Klaus' commiserated once he noticed her approval, although the smile he wore told another story."Is the boy dear to you?"
"He's my Zavi."
Strands of hair swept over her eyes when she inclined her head to gaze down at her partner, Klaus' eyes following a moment later.
"And your his..."Klaus trailed off, lifting his head as his gaze resettled on her.
"Feyona."
After one last look at her lover, Feyona rose to her full height and presented Klaus her hand without preamble. She then situated herself in front of Zavi and Damon when Klaus ambled over to her, his eyes studying the ring she donned to hide the wonder he felt at her poise.
"Klaus. But you already knew that."He took her offered hand, inclined his head brought her knuckles to his mouth."It's an unexpected pleasure."
She stared at their connected hands through hooded lids and hastily nodded, corners of her lips twitching. Klaus rose once she pulled away, his smile instantly dropping and eyes hardening.
"Now, Fey-ona."There was an edge to his tone that she immediately responded to, and her back straightened."My family. Where are they?"
Twirling her daylight ring around her finger, Feyona mentally sifted through the night before, eyes darting around the lounge as she tried to pinpoint when exactly Damon had divulged the information and his exact words.
"The witch's so-called abandoned cottage, Damon said. Veiled by a spell."
Feyona eyed him heedfully as Klaus turned away from her, the tension his shoulders alleviating greatly. He'd probably been envisioning many locations where his loved ones had been kept.
In the middle of the ocean, buried six feet under the ground, or stacked atop one another in the Salvatore basement and concealed by a spell. She could sense the relief he was radiating and didn't know what to make of it.
Fingers lacing against her stomach, Feyona donned her sweetest smile and swayed to and fro."But i'm sure they'll relinquish your nearest and dearest since..."
Feyona trailed off with a knowing look up at him, lifting her shoulders in an idle shrug. Wiping a hand down his face, Klaus turned around and frowned at her, beckoning her to conclude with her statement.
"Since I'm what?"
"Why, since you're the big bad wolf, of course."Feyona demurely answered, moving just out of his reach so she could curtsy.
He let out a heavy breath as he gathered his bearings, it intermixed with a low chuckle.
"You needn't layer on the veneration so thick, love. Your candor is more than enough."
Her smile faltered into a genuine one, and she owlishly blinked up at him somewhat expectantly.
"When do I retrieve my reward?"
Feyona inhaled a deep breath when he lifted a hand as if he were going to take hold of her cheek. Instead, palm hovered over just over it, lingering where he could cover the tattoo etched in her skin. He stared at it openly and in intrigue for several moments, lips parting as though he wanted to ask about them.
Ultimately, he didn't and the corner of his mouth lifting up into an assuring smile.
"Once it's undisputed that you're not fibbing, you'll be rewarded in ways you cannot imagine."Klaus wagged a finger at her teasingly, fingertip lightly tilting her chin up to ensure she met his eyes."Thank you for your help, sweet girl."
His gaze flickered over her features one last time, then he turned and purposefully strode out of the boarding house.
