A/N: Well it's been a hot minute since I last touched this! Thank you to all of the kind readers who despite my seemingly permanent hiatus continued to read, comment, and urge me to continue! Due to the time between chapters, my mindset on where this series is headed has probably changed some, so this will be an adventure for the both of us. I am still a busy student, so bare with me. XO
Hinata's POV
The rain was pounding thunderously against the window, painting streaks on the glass. The hospital was quiet today, as it had been for the last week. He was free of most machinery, and was resting comfortably in his own sweat pants and T-shirt; it felt good to have is own clothing on, a little dose of familiarity went a long way.
"It's a mess out there," grumbled Yachi. She was a lover of the sun, and warmth, whereas Hinata enjoyed the simple beauty of the rain most days. Yachi pulled off her wet jacket, leaving her umbrella in the corner safely wrapped in a drip guard supplied by the front desk. "It's a good thing you're not leaving today, I'd hate for you to catch a cold right as you begin to feel better."
"I can't wait to get out of here, rain or not," The redhead sighed, sagging back into the pillows. He was still battered and bruised, with healing ribs, and scabbing wounds; he could however move around freely now albeit slowly.
"They said tomorrow if your tests look good you could be out of here by lunch, so there is hope yet," she winked. Hinata simply groaned. He hated to sit around. On the plus side, he was all caught up in his studies, despite missing classes- though his professors were incredibly understanding. "Have you heard from Kageyama-san lately?" Hinata shook his head.
"It's been four days since he last stopped by. Everyone is on edge, I think they're expecting more trouble." Hinata spoke quietly, disappointment and worry in his voice. He didn't want any more trouble to befall is new comrades. Despite the absence of the Dahlia crew, there was always one or two around, pretending to help the doctor with this or that, attempting to look inconspicuous. Hinata new better though. They were keeping watch incase the psycos came looking for the young university student. Of all the injured it was only he and Yaku remaining, and Yaku would be there for a while longer to partake in physical therapy. But why hadn't Kageyama come by? He went from practically living at his bedside for a week or two to suddenly ghosting? Had Hinata done something to upset him?
"I'll give Noya-san a call in a bit, ask for an update," the blonde offered. Hinata offered a weak smile. "Lord just keep them safe."
Later in the evening the beautiful dark haired nurse appeared to take Hinata's vitals and check his healing process. "Everything is looking good Hinata-kun. I'll give these results to the doctor and we can get you out of here tomorrow morning provided you remain stable overnight." She bowed and exited the room.
"The nursing students at school don't look like that…" Yachi mused light heartedly once they were alone once more. Her cheeks were flushed as she wiggled her eyebrows at Hinata.
"No kidding…" She was gorgeous- but she didn't make his heart pound when she touched his skin. Blood didn't rush to his face when her scent washed over him in their close proximity during examinations. Not like it did when a certain blue eyed man drew close… He felt heat prickle at his ears at the thought. Hinata shook his head, pushing the thoughts away.
"What is it?" Yachi asked, curious about the motion.
"Uh, it's nothing. Can you ring Noya-san?" She nodded and left the room with her phone in hand. He took deep breaths. This had been happening on and off over his stay in the hospital. He blamed it on his boredom, nothing to think about leads to a wandering imagination. Letting his mind wander wasn't a terrible thing, Kageyama was certainly attractive, so of course he would appreciate the view. What wasn't okay was how his damn body reacted every time his mind decided to remind him of the firm muscles that lay beneath the man's clothing, the way his long fingers would run through his velvet black hair, or the way his sapphire gaze would follow his every movement. Hinata gulped as the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, heat pooling low in his abdomen. He closed his eyes breathing deeply. If he let his body relax, he could almost feel those long fingers touch him, stroking his pale skin.
The sound of the door opening startled him, brown eyes flashing open as red migrated to his ears. "Uh- sorry, I came to bring you your antibiotics." It was that gorgeous nurse, Shimizu Kiyoko. She quickly dropped off the small cup that had three pills, and a glass of water before retreating. "I'm happy to see you are feeling much better," She mused with an embarrassed smile before closing the door behind her. Usually the nurse was quite stoic, yet this time she seemed… flustered?
His gaze dropped to his crotch, where a healthy bulge was obvious through the blankets.
Here lies Shoyo Hinata- death by embarrassment.
The groan he let out was audible through the walls, as he wallowed in self pity. He wanted nothing more than to disappear in that moment. It's bad enough that he popped a boner in front of a nurse, what made it worse was why he did so. He got hard at the thought of Kageyama. "Kill me nowwwwww…" He groaned.
Yachi all but flew in the room, looking worried, "Are you okay? What's wrong?" She ran to his bedside, looking him over. Thankfully the embarrassment had killed his growing problem pretty fast. "Are you in pain? Where does it hurt?"
He couldn't stomach looking at her. He felt so dirty. "Uh, nothing. I'm just feeling bored, and uh… not sure, just cabin fever I guess?" He lied, looking at his hands.
Yachi cocked a brow, not buying it. "You better not be hiding anything bad from me. If you are hurting, then tell me."
"No, no, I'm fine. Just dying to get out of here." He sighed. That much was true at least. She seemed to accept this, handing the cup of pills to him. He obliged, swallowing them with some water before settling down in his bed more comfortably. "How's Noya-san?"
"Sounds about as good as you actually," She admitted, taking a seat next to the bed, "They've been running themselves ragged between tightening security at the compound and at the Dahlia, along with trying to get information on who else might have their fingers in the attack."
Hinata nodded, finally able to meet his friends eyes, "and Kageyama?"
"He's pretty much fully mended after everything that has happened. He's working long hours at the Dahlia, but they're keeping him off the streets. Apparently he's been sticking his nose in the… uh, business- whatever that means- of some gangsters and nearly got roughed up again, so he's practically on house arrest." She shook her head, unimpressed. "That man doesn't know how to keep his nose out of trouble."
"You could say that again…" Hinata chuckled. That explained his absence though. Relief flooded over him that he hadn't somehow scared the man away. "Is Natsu-chan settling in well?"
Yachi nodded. It was decided once Hinata was feeling a bit better that Natsu would become a permanent resident of Yachi's home. Not only was it closer to her school, but it would cut back on Hinata's expenses and guarantee her a bit more safety. As for Hinata's apartment, he'd not only been evicted, but also fined for the damages. He tried not to think about the financial hole he had dug himself into, because it was just getting deeper. Thankfully his hospital bills were looked after by the Dahlia, despite his protests. He desperately needed to get a job.
"We'll figure this all out Hinata-san. You're not alone in this. Never forget that."
A/N: Sorry for the short chapter, just trying to get warmed up and back into it! I am hoping to progressively get longer chapters in, but it really just depends on the flow for the most part. I'm also in the process of rewatching Haikyuu as to get a good idea of what the characters are like again, so if I am straying a bit from the "feel" of the characters, I do apologise.
Again, thanks for sticking around XO
