sorry its been so long guys, thank you to the people who held on. I got really busy with school and then my computer literally blew up, then after that I got a really bad bout of Bronchitis. so long overdue a short chapter

please review I'm not sure if this is a good chapter or not or if this just killed it

The next morning.

"Sire. It's time to go. We should be heading back to Camelot today. It's not safe out here anymore." Merlin said matter of factly with close to no emotion.

"Merlin. We need to talk about this."

"Sire, you need to eat then we need to go." he said walking away from me.

"Alright." I said dropping this for now.

I helped him pick up the camp, and pack the horses. I silently watched the way he moved around the camp with almost no feeling at all. How did we let this happen to him? Our friend. How were we so blind?

"Merlin..."

"Yes sire?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"You just did, sire."

"No, merlin look at me!"

"WHAT?!"

"How long have the nightmares been going on?"

"No, we're not doing this! Not now! We need to get back. We need- Camelot needs you."

"I'm not going anywhere until you answer me!"

"FOREVER ARTHUR! Forever. SINCE THE DAY I STEPPED FOOT INTO THIS KINGDOM, SINCE THE DAY I MET YOU. IT'S TOO MUCH FOR ME!"

"THE JOB'S TOO MUCH FOR YOU MERLIN OR AM I?"

"No, Arthur, that's not what I meant."

"NO, LEAVE MERLIN."

"What? Arthur, no that's not what I want."

"Leave. Don't come back. You'll be happier right?! I won't be there to hurt you, because I would rather you leave then ever hurt you."

"Arthur, you don't mean that..."

I could see the tears streaming down his face as he choked out his words. I could hear his strangled gasps for air but it was too late I couldn't take back the things that had been said. I was upset about the secrets but mostly at myself for not seeing it. I needed him to leave to be happy, no matter what that meant for me.

"A king is never friends with those who serve him!"

I mumbled as I looked at the ground. I knew it was a crushing blow, but I also knew with that he would leave. I heard a few more choked sobs then the sound of footsteps retreating. As soon as they were out of earshot I feel to the ground in chest heaving sobs.
