But Kylo didn't say anything and Hux decided to look back at him again and saw that he was smiling a little.
They talked for hours and hours about anything and everything during their time in the infirmary. It was surprising for Hux because he thought that Kylo wouldn't have opened up to him so quickly. But the pair of them just kept talking and joking around like old friends which one day, made Hux wonder about what Kylo had seen in his mind.
"Hey Ky?" Kylo permitted Hux to call him this shorter nickname and Hux liked to use it whenever possible.
"Yeah, Hux?"
"I just want to know like, what exactly did you see in my mind while you were unconscious?"
Kylo smiled a little, "I saw what you saw and you were thinking about me. You were holding my hand in your mind and we were smiling and walking through a field together while the sun set."
Hux kept staring at Kylo paying attention to every word like he was telling a good story. Kylo smiled even wider to himself and kept going, "Then the sun set, and we lay down on the grass and watched the stars together."
Kylo turned to look at Hux and they blushed simultaneously. "I would like to do that with you one day, Kylo." Hux admitted. Kylo gave him a look of mixed admiration and happiness for even suggesting such a thing out loud. "You know what? I would too."
A pair of medical droids soon interrupted them from gazing at each other to check their vitals and rewrap some of their bandages.
"You seem to have an infection here, Kylo." The droid that tended to Kylo pushed away the bandages on his arm to reveal a medium-sized patch of green skin near his elbow.
"What is it?" Kylo asked.
"It is a disease called A117. It is not contagious, but it can spread through the body quickly and can cause death if not treated soon. We will put you on the proper medication, but it will have some side effects."
"What side effects?" Hux interjected.
The droid looked at him as if he had two heads instead of one but still answered his question. "The medication can cause severe migraines, vomiting, muscle spasms, skin irritation, and kidney failure."
"Are there any other treatments?"
"No there are not any other possible or effective treatments available, sir."
Hux felt his breath shorten. He could have kidney failure. Hux thought. He didn't want that to happen to Kylo. When Hux's attention focused back on reality, he heard Kylo cry out in pain.
The medical droid applied a few drops of the first medication on his infection and put on clean bandages. The other droid finished logging Hux's medical information into the computer and placed a neon green pill and a glass of water on Kylo's beside table and instructed him to take it soon.
They left the room and dimmed the lights when they finished everything. Hux seized the opportunity to talk to Kylo, "Kylo, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this."
Kylo brushed off his apology right away, "Don't be, Hux. I have this infection because I made a choice to attempt to save you from that rebel ship and I'm glad that I did."
He continued on, "You're becoming more and more meaningful in my life and you know what, the memory of seeing us together in your mind will keep me going through this hard time. It'll give me something to live for if the worst happens."
"In other words, you are scared to death and you are just making a heroic speech just to convince yourself and I that you aren't." Hux teased.
Kylo rolled his eyes and used the force to lightly punch Hux in the arm.
"Ow! Okay, okay, fine I was joking."
Kylo laughed and summoned the two medical droids to come back.
"Can you move Hux's bed next to mine?"
"If you wish, sir," they replied and rolled Hux and all the machines he was hooked up to next to Kylo and left the room.
Kylo immediately took Hux's hand, "Yeah, you're damn right I'm scared," and gave it a little squeeze. Kylo sighed and told Hux he was going to try to get some sleep and let go of his hand.
He felt a tap on his shoulder, "Hey, if you ever need a replacement kidney instead of waiting to get bacta tank treatment, I will give you one of mine." Hux offered.
"Thanks, Hux." Kylo yawned and took Hux's rough hand in his and kissed it and then they slept.
