AN: I'm updating sooner than my usual as I managed to find a window to do so.

Review response:

OechsnerC: They will, though whether or not they'll end up together romantically remains a mystery.

Noctus Fury: I WILL NOT CALM DOWN. Just kidding. I won't answer that question, or else I'd be giving you a big spoiler. And don't hope much. We have to be realistic: Hiccup can't remain hidden forever. Someone is bound to notice sooner or later the changes in Elsa's behaviour.

KE12: You pretty much pointed out the main reason this story exists. I felt that most crossovers didn't spend enough time working up their relationship, as if people are afraid that this would bore their readers, and make them leave. I admit, that probably has happened already, but if I were to write a story based on what my readers want I'd being a new fanfiction. And I disagree with you. There is too little on Idun to actually say someone has nailed down her character. I'm only writing her as how I believe she'd act, based on the movie, and on how R2-M0 wrote her (after all this story is a sequel to his first work, Echoes of Falling Snow). Still, thank you. I'm happy to see that you have liked a lot how I'm writing her.

Pietersielie: Thank you, for taking your time to read it. I'm always happy to see people enjoy my work. Hopw you enjoy this chapter just as much.

Maerk: I will have to keep you wondering, lest I spoiler you, and anyone else that actually reads the whole review response section. But, here's a hint: not much longer

Without further ado:

Previously: Elsa is having trouble deciding whether or not she trusts Nightflight. On top of that the dragon is bringing feelings inside her that she had not felt for a while: worry, elation, relief. This only furthers her dilemma. Much like when she was unsure of how she felt toward Hiccup Elsa sought the council of her mother, albeit not revieling the nature of her questions. As Idun yet again manages to help Elsa she also starts to suspect that maybe her daughter is not as alone as she thought...

As she headed toward the tower, her mother's words came back to her. She was scared, in a way. This would be the first time she'd see the dragon after they bonded. Honestly, it would be the first time she would see her since Hiccup presented her.

The lantern creaked, evidencing its rustiness, but the sound fell on deaf ears. Her mind was far more worried with seeing Nightflight again. Had she been aware of how automatic her walk to the tower was she would have recalled a phrase she heard a long time ago: the more you do something, the less your mind pays heed to it.

When she reached that place, she found only the white one. Hiccup and Toothless are likely flying. Maybe even gathering dinner, she thought sadly. As much as she wanted bringing food was hard to do. She had tried in a brief while; it had only resulted in suspiciousness from her mother and Gerda. She gave up quickly, and blamed the excess of food on hormones. Neither woman ever touched the subject again.

As she looked at Nightflight she felt an urge of patting her, of checking on her wound, of checking if she was hungry. She breathed in, restraining such thoughts while trying to not panic. It felt so… alien that she wanted to know Nightflight's wellbeing so much.

"Hello girl," she offered quietly, tentatively. The dragon's head shot up, and once her eyes found Elsa she offered a small gummy smile. Elsa smiled, amused to see an antic she shared with Toothless.

She looked outside, through the window. Currently the small interior of the tower was being illuminated more by her lantern than by the moon. Which meant it was a perfect night for Hiccup to go out with Toothless. "Did they go out to fly?" she asked impulsively. Elsa shook her head. Silly me. Why did I ask? It's not like she is going to…

Nightflight nodded …answer me.

Elsa stared at the dragon, not believing her eyes. "Can…you understand me?" she asked while gulping. Another nod. She felt panic rise, and did her best to keep her breathing even.

Calm down. Panicking will only make things worse. So she can understand you. Did Hiccup mention that dragons can understand us? She tried to remember if he had said such thing before, but her memories were hazy, and, with her panic increasing, it became harder to access them.

Stop and think Elsa. Does that really matter? How much of your life changes just because she understands you? She was surprised at how clever that question was. And, as she stopped to think about it, she calmed down. Not much would change. Nightflight was pretty much the only dragon she had to worry about, considering how Toothless didn't seem to pay her much heed.

She came back to reality when she heard a low croon. Her eyes found Nightflight's, and she noticed the worry in them. Somehow, she felt elated by it, and slightly saddened. Why is she making me…feel so much? It was a worrying question, but, surprisingly, Elsa found herself not caring as much as her control obsessive side told her to.

"It's alright girl. I was just surprised. I don't recall Hiccup telling me you guys can understand us." She briefly wondered how she did so. But the thought was fleeting. I'll let that be Hiccup's worry, she thought playfully. He was the sort of expert on dragons between the two of them anyway.

Nightflight warbled, and offered a small smile. To Elsa the white dragon seemed relieved that she was merely surprised, instead of being distressed. Again Elsa felt the need of touching Nightflight. Again it frightened her.

Before she could dwell on her fears Hiccup and Toothless emerged from the window. "Whoa buddy, that was some good flying. I guess we're lucky we had a moonless night with good weather, eh?" He noticed the girl on the room. "Oh hey Elsa. I hope I haven't left you waiting for long. Did I leave you a note?" He tapped his chin. "I can't remember if I did so," he mumbled.

Elsa shook her head. "It's alright Hiccup." Silence fell as said boy hopped off the saddle, and then proceeded to remove it. "So… if you would be so kind to tell me, did you tell me before that they can understand us? Or did you even know?"

Hiccup froze, the saddle clenched by his hands. He slowly looked at Elsa, and he let out a sigh, which seemed to carry some of the tension that had built up in him. He put the saddle down, and proceeded to sit.

"I don't believe I told you so," he begun. "I guess this subject never came up on our conversations, at least considering Toothless was the only one here. At first I thought that he simply learned how to figure out what I meant, considering we've been together for… maybe five months? Anyway…"

He paused, though why Elsa wasn't sure. "But after seeing how he and…" He almost said Windwalker. Almost. "Nightflight understand me, I have no doubts. They can understand us. I don't know how, yet anyway, and I don't know if it is just their species, or dragons in general."

He looked Elsa in the eyes, and she felt awfully self-conscious under his gaze. "You were surprised when she answered you, weren't you?" She timidly nodded, then proceeded to avert her eyes from him. Feeling that he had given her too much attention he looked away, feeling slightly guilty. "I'm sorry…"

"It's alright… I'm…I'm just not used being on the spotlight." He found this ironic, and it was another irony to add to their list. Most of his life he spent under the spotlight, even though it wasn't for good reasons. She, apparently, has rarely been explicitly under the spotlight.

Elsa knew she was always under the spotlight of her parents. But seeing it so explicitly felt… burdening, even scaring. Last time she could recall that she was under the spotlight like this was when she had her first outburst. She tightly shut her eyes as unpleasant memories flooded her.

A warble brought her out of the flood. She opened her eyes, and her breath hitched as she found Nightflight a few inches closer to her. Nonetheless, she gave the dragon a thankful look. "That means your question about trusting her is now on a whole new level."

She looked at him, and did not miss how he took a second or two to nod. 'So he had not thought of this,' she mused worriedly. "How is she by the way?"

He knew better than to point out that she was evading his previous question about trust. "She is doing fine actually. The gash is already healing. I'm keeping bandages just so it won't get infected. A day or two and she'll no longer need it. Whether it'll scar or not, time will tell, however."

She briefly wondered how many clothes he had until she recalled that he weekly had washed his stuff on a small steam near the North Mountain. She wondered if that was close to the trolls' home. Her memory of the place was hazy, but she remembered hot vapours coming from the ground, and also of how warm the place had been, despite the altitude and season.

"That's good. That's good," she said while nodding, her shoulders feeling slightly lighter. Hiccup noticed the signs that meant that Elsa cared for the dragon, probably even as much as she cared by him. He would not push her to answer that question.

It seemed to him that it would be answered on its own time.

A few night later, Elsa was plagued by another nightmare.

"Hiccup? Why do you look so sullen? What happened?" she asked, her worry increasing tenfold.

"I was wrong Elsa. The wound closed, but it became infected. I-I can't do anything. She…" He gulped, as if afraid of his next words. "She doesn't have long…"

Elsa felt her heart thundering against her chest. She shook her head in denial, and felt the ice slipping from her fingers. "No… this can't be. This isn't happening…" Her voice cracked, and soon she could see her breath.

"I don't know how long she has. She may have a few days. Or only a few minutes…"

"Don't say that!" she yelled, losing her composure. She approached the sick dragon and crouched to hug her. "Y-you're not leaving, you hear me? We have only just bonded! We still have much to do…" Tears started falling from her eyes. "I-I haven't even flown with you…"

She felt the dragon's head grow heavier on her shoulder. Her eyes shot wide open. "Nightflight?"

She didn't respond.

"Nightflight?"

She searched for a heartbeat, but couldn't find one. Never mind that she didn't even know where to look for one.

"NIGHTFLIGHT!"

Elsa woke up screaming her name, panting heavily. Her eyes were wide open, and as alert as a wolf's eyes while stalking a prey. She immediately became aware of her room's state, and it brought her another unpleasant memory: the day she dreamt of Hiccup's death.

She gulped, painfully so. Her blanket was frozen solid, and a small quantity of snowflakes were frozen in mid-air. Unlike last time, she slowly got out of the bed, and put up a robe.

As soon as the lantern was lit and the door was open, she bolted straight to the tower. She didn't even bother closing the door.

As soon as she came out of the passage, she slowed down. As quickly as she could go without making much noise, she strode through the corridors before finding the staircase.

She barely noticed that Hiccup and Toothless were out again. This night the wind was howling, but it was neither snowing nor raining. Elsa kneeled down in front of the injured dragon. "Nightflight?"

Dread started overflowing her as the dragon did not reply. "Nightflight?" she asked again, increasing her voice.

The white one's head shot up at hearing her name. Her eyes quickly focused on Elsa, and her senses were assaulted by the dread the girl was feeling. Then by the sudden change to overwhelming relief. "You're alright," Elsa said, impulsively wrapping her arms around Nightflight's neck. "Thank God, you're alright," she said while letting only a handful of tears fall from her eyes.

Not understanding why Elsa had been so worried, she settled with simply leaning on the girl's shoulder, and letting out a low, comforting croon. Elsa tightened a little her hug, as a way of telling her she appreciated the gesture.

They stood like this for a few moments, until Elsa's voice broke the silence, "It's alright girl," she said, her voice slightly shaky. "It was just a bad nightmare." Nightflight didn't know whether Elsa was telling her that or telling herself. "Just a nightmare…" said girl added through a whisper.

As if suddenly aware of her position she let go of the female's neck. A small blush was visible on her cheeks, even though the room was dimly lit. Elsa regarded the dragon with fondness, and a small amount of curiosity. Sadly, Nightflight could sense some sadness coming from the girl as well.

Elsa knew the answer to the question Hiccup asked a few days prior to this one. "I think I'd be only fooling me if I said no to his question," Elsa said, looking to the ground and sounding resigned. She assumed her usual spot, though this time she didn't wrap her arms around her legs as she often did when upset.

Nightflight dared to look at the blond hopefully, but awaited for the girl to explicit it. "I guess… I do trust you." Elsa looked up and met Nightflight's eyes. "But… I need to know…" she added, whispering. "Can you… feel it? Feel the cold?"

Nightflight hesitated. As an elementa she could yes identify other elementas in close proximity. And so she could identify that Elsa was an ice elementa. It scared her, as she had never seen a human elementa before. But after hearing Hiccup, and Toothless, and Windwalker mention her so many times she decided that Elsa wasn't a threat. And after the hug, she knew she was right.

So, albeit hesitantly, she nodded. Elsa drew in a sharp breath, not expecting this answer. I guess she understanding me changes a lot more than I thought. And I guess I do have to think about this, even though I wanted to ignore it, she thought worriedly. "Does… Toothless know?"

Nightflight thought. Toothless' sense was similar to hers so there was no way he could not know. But he never mentioned it to her, nor did Windwalker, or Hiccup. She then wondered if either Hiccup or Windwalker were aware of Elsa's powers. She resigned herself with a no, until she could ask either of them. As for Toothless, she looked Elsa in the eyes and nodded.

Elsa's eyes widened. She looked at her hands, lost in thoughts. So he knows. Maybe he has known since their first night around her. Does he not see me as a threat? Or he assumes I'm safe just because I never used them? But I have! Not directly, though. I remember the few times I lowered the room's temperature. Could he know it was me?

Elsa clenched her teeth and held her head, as she felt an impending headache loom near. She decided to stop thinking about the ramifications of what she just found out. She heard a croon, but only opened her eyes and looked at Nightflight after she was sure that she wasn't going to make it snow inside the tower. "I'm okay girl. It's just…"

She exhaled. "He doesn't know about it. I'm afraid he'll… run if he does." She looked away, feeling ashamed. "People have gotten hurt in the past because of them. That's why I… I avoid them. In anyway, even talking. I…" She shut tightly her eyes. "I couldn't bear if I hurt him. If I hurt any of you."

Her breath stopped in her throat after she felt something on her lap. Reluctantly, and afraid, she turned her head and opened one eye, only to find Nightflight's head resting on her lap. Elsa froze for a moment, and almost pushed Nightflight away. But, she restrained herself from doing so.

Instead, she just opened both her eyes and gazed at the dragon. "What are you doing?" she asked, her whisper so faint that, had Hiccup been in the room, he would not have heard it. Nightflight crooned, and though Elsa did not speak Dragonese, she had a hunch of what was her dragon's reply.

"You're… comforting me?" Nightflight nodded on her lap, and Elsa let out a shaky breath. Of all things she went through so far, she never thought she'd end up being comforted by a dragon, of all things.

Her hand trembled as she dared to rest it near the female's earplates. "T-thank you." Nightflight crooned in acknowledgement, making the tiniest of smiles appear on Elsa's lips. Slowly, unsurely, Elsa started lightly stroking Nightflight's head. "You're God sent… just like Hiccup."
