Jet black eyes stared back at the creature in the mirror that was in the living room. Blood dripped from her mouth and down her chin. A tongue slipped out, licking up most of it while her eyes searched the walls around her. Pictures adorned each and every one. Her feet slowly moved across the room toward one in particular that was sitting on the mantle of the fireplace.
She gingerly picked it up, eyes scanning it curiously. A family stared back at her. The little girl in the picture looked almost familiar. She was small and fragile looking with chocolate brown eyes that matched her father's though she still looked a lot like the mother too. The demon's eyes locked onto the parents...
Parents...
The picture frame hit the ground as her head whipped toward the kitchen where the backdoor was.
"Bells, honey?" Her father's voice was so soft as he called out to her.
"BELLA!" Her mother's voice echoed, completely full of terror.
Her hands flew up to her ears and she snarled.
"No! Stop!" She screamed as the memories flooded her. Her parent's screams, the snapping of bones and gurgling of blood engulfed her entire being. Bella let out a mixture of a sob and growl, blinking rapidly, though the tears never fell.
She didn't. She couldn't have. She would never... But she did.
Her whole world began to spin and she felt sick to her stomach.
She had killed them. The people who had brought her into this world, who had cared for her, loved her, helped her grow into the young woman she was, used to be, were dead. Not only were they dead, but by her hand.
She had murdered her parents in the most brutal fashion and drained them of their blood.
Bella's vibrant red eyes met that same mirror where the black eyed monster had been staring back earlier. Utter disgust filled her.
She was that monster.
Her fist clenched hard as the knuckles threatened to split through the granite hard, yet soft skin.
She was a monster.
She cocked back and swung, exploding the mirror into multiple shards.
What else could she be, if not that?
Alice knelt down and picked up the shard of glass in her hand. The Swan household was in complete disarray. Police tape was strewn everywhere and blood in the kitchen from where the bodies had been found still stained the floor.
"You don't have to be here if it's too hard on you." Alice said, looking up and meeting her companion's void colored eyes as he breathed through his mouth.
He shook his head and gave her a certain look that she was used to.
"It's ok, really." She assured him. "Nobody has been here in hours. Go wait outside. I'll be fine. I promise."
Jasper weighed the options in his head for a moment before nodding and blurring out of there. He felt a flash of embarrassment and shame, not having near the same amount of self control and strength as Alice in that aspect. His feelings quickly shifted to relief as he took in deep unnecessary breaths, feeling the cool night air fill his undead lungs. The fiery blaze that had engulfed his throat was slowly starting to dissipate and he found himself wondering how Alice managed to handle the pain or if it even bothered her all that much anymore.
Alice stood up and made her way through the quiet, now ruined home. The wolves were right. The place smelled of vampire, but only one had been inside the home. However it was one of the same vampires that had been at the campsite where the other bodies were found. The Cullens and wolves both followed the tracks back and forth numerous times and judging from the beeline to the Swan house, it was clearly evident that this person was intent on coming here. But why?
Whatever the case may be, this immortal smelled simply amazing to Alice and made her heart skip beats in an odd way. Fear and anxiety perhaps? After all, it was an unknown vampire. Or was it? There was something about this scent. It was almost like she had come into contact with it before yet it was twisted and resonated with power and strength in only a manner that a vampire's could. How could this person that Alice had never met before smell so familiar? Unless she had...
Glass crunched under her designer boots as she made her way toward a picture frame that was laying on the floor. Her gloved hand picked it up and turned it over. Underneath all the spiderwebs was an image of Bella and her parents. She must've been about eight or nine in this picture. Alice's face scrunched up in thought as she looked at the family. She glanced back at the kitchen where the parents were found then at the little girl in the picture. Her nostrils flared as she took in deep breaths and the scent that had consumed the house, the same scent that she had become accustomed to in her every day life. She dropped the picture and gasped-
The newborn's slowly blackening eyes peered back at Alice and Jasper as she bared her sharp fangs at them. Fear and rage radiated off of her.
"Get away from me!" She shreiked, a low threatening growl following.
Alice reached out her hand slowly. "It's okay. You're okay."
"Bella."
The pixie's eyes fluttered as she came to with Jasper's arms locked tightly around her. His eyes shifted around the room scanning for danger before meeting hers.
"Jasper, we have to go. I know where she is." Alice grabbed his hand, pulling him out the door and took off in the direction the wolves had followed earlier that day. The trail was a mixture of wet dog and earth, but Alice could still faintly smell her underneath it all.
"It was her." It suddenly dawned on Jasper while they were running through the trees. "The vampire in the house." He placed his arm up and cracked a low hanging branch in half that was in his way.
"Yes." Alice said sadly.
"It explains why the vampire had run straight to Bella's house."
Alice looked over at him and frowned.
"All she wanted to do was be somewhere where she felt safe. She was scared and needed comfort, their love. Jasper, she killed them." Alice's heart ached for the young girl, whose innocence seemed to have been ripped from her. Jasper sent a wave of calm to his black haired coven mate trying to shoo away the sadness and they shared a knowing look. "Thank you."
"You're quite welcome." He drawled out. "You know we have to find her before the wolves do. That vampire is an entirely other story, too."
Alice twisted out of the way of a tall pine before her head snapped over at him.
"You know as well as I do that they won't be as understanding as we are. She still needs saved. Maybe not from another vampire right now, but from herself and from the wolves when they found out what she's done. They're not going to allow a vampire to live that kills people especially a newborn."
Jasper had lots of experience in handling newborns among other vampires. He had shared the stories countless times of the vampire wars he had fought in. The scars across his body spoke volumes. There was no way the wolves would let something so dangerous that they already considered an abomantion live. She knew he was right. She wished he wasn't, but there was no point in denying it. Doing that wouldn't solve anything. Could she still protect Bella? Yes, she answered to herself. Not only could she protect Bella, but she would protect her.
"Here." Alice said, as they made their way out of an opening of trees that came to a small river.
They stayed silent as their ears focused in on the sounds around them. There was crickets and the occassional nocturnal animal, but no signs of anything else. Even the scent was gone, washed away at the water's edge. Only the wolves' strong, musky scents lingered in the area.
"Are you sure this is the place?" Jasper asked.
"Of course, I'm sure." Alice huffed. Were my visions off? Did she decide to swim down the river instead? Maybe working with the wolves was messing with my visions. She thought to herself. Her hand quickly ran through her hair in frustration and she shook her head. "I don't underst-"
Just then a white blur exploded up out of the water.
A/N: So this only took like what? 2 years? Yikes. My sincerest apologies everyone. I've been super busy with writing a book and training/competing. It's been very hectic lately, but I am really sorry. It was pretty nice to just take a break and play with this story a bit. Hopefully everyone likes it if there's anyone still reading it.
