Chapter 5, AGAIN! It's been re-written because I completely forgot that "Phantom" met Snowstar in the FIRST story! Now don't I feel stupid? Anyway this chapter is still pretty long, and after a brief visit to Amity park, will pretty much be mostly Danny because we know we all love him.
Jayfeather: …Vamp. Should any words REALLY be said?
Dani: WAIT! She's actually writing again?
Me: I've been needing to I have like three chapters on paper .-. Though I lost chapter 6… Fml
Kid: Wow Vamp. You have left what few people pay attention to this wanting something, and have only gotten as far as paper… And you should keep up with your things.
Me: Shut up and go to a Soul Eater story.
Jayfeather: He has a point.
Kid: Keep wondering how we can understand a cat…
Me: Uhh well… I don't know. Demon magic? Starclan magic? Vampy magic? It could be any of those three really .-. Anyway this conversation's gone on long enough. Disclaimers?
Jayfeather: Why have I never questioned that… Vamp doesn't own Warriors. She clearly can't write that well.
Dani: And she doesn't own Danny Phantom. Have you SEEN her art and animations?
Kid: You two are cold. Enjoy the next chapter!
Vlad lit up his hand in pink ecto-energy, and blasted the wall in frustration. Why was it so damn hard to locate Daniel? Then again, the boy had been lost in a large woodland area, and he was in the form of a cat, but that was beside the point! He had hired Skulker to try and hunt down the boy, but the ghostly hunter had been unable to track him down as well. So much for "Ghost Zone's greatest hunter."
His parents were so close to believing that their son was dead. Who knows, that could be true. However, his sister and friends refused to believe that possibility and kept the adult Fentons believing that there was at least a chance that Danny was alive. After all, there was no proof that the boy was dead.
Jasmine would come into his office every so often, asking if he had found any trace of her little brother. Every tim she asked, he'd give her the same, disappointing answer. She would leave his office with a downcast look on her face, and she knew that she was thinking the same thing he was. 'Damnit Daniel, where the hell are you?'
Meanwhile, hundreds of miles away…
A crescent moon was visible in the sky as Darkcloud was getting ready to go on a night patrol. She looked for a warrior to go with her and said "Oceanbreeze, night patrol", as he was the closest to her.
"Sure" Oceanbreeze replied and followed the deputy out of camp. He didn't have much else to do. The forest seemed to be quiet, and a soft breeze went through the forest. Everything had been surprisingly calm since Bluegaze's death. Suddenly, Oceanbreeze stopped walking and scented the air. "I smell something."
Darkcloud stopped as well, looking back at him. She then scented the air as well and then looked around, catching it too. It seemed a little familiar, but she couldn't quite place it. "Come on, let's investigate it" she said, motioning for Oceanbreeze to follow her as she headed in the direction it seemed to be coming from.
Oceanbreeze followed her, looking a little more on guard than she did. Both cats stopped at the base of a tree. Narrowing his eyes and looking upward, Oceanbreeze said "we know you're there; come out!" There was no response from whoever, or whatever was in the tree, so he tried again. "Get down here or we're coming up!" A rustle was finally heard in the tree as whatever was in it moved, and a faint glow could be seen.
In the tree…
Danny was doing is own routine night patrol and had decided to stop in a thick-branched tree. There was a reason behind him doing so; He was thinking about a new and better route he could take to patrol the whole territory effectively. He was about to head off again when he heard a voice from below call up to him, which he identified as his favorite blue cat. 'Damnit' he mentally said, and shifted so that he could look down at him, and noted that not only was Oceanbreeze there, but Darkcloud was too. Well, there were two options. On one paw, he could simply go invisible and fly away. On the other paw, he could give into Oceanbreeze's demands and fly down.
"I mean it!" Oceanbreeze added on to his most recent demand. He looked serious about climbing the tree, which amused Danny.
Shaking his head, Danny decided to just go down. It could be fun. After all, Darkcloud was there and she was fun to mess with as Phantom. He leapt out of the tree and slowly landed on the ground in front of them. "Fine, fine. I'm down."
Darkcloud was about to reply, but an already annoyed and short tempered Oceanbreeze attacked the ghost cat, pinning him down to the ground. Danny easily pushed the angry blue cat off of him with an amused look, only adding to Oceanbreeze's hostility. He attacked Danny again, raking his claws across Danny's right shoulder. He just went intangible, and Oceanbreeze fell through him.
"Now that wasn't very nice. After all I do to help you" Danny said as he turned tangible again. Oceanbreeze fixed a glare on him, but didn't attack him again.
"Phantom" Darkcloud said, her eyes focused on the green dripping down Phantom's shoulder where Oceanbreeze had scratched him.
"Darkcloud" Danny replied, sitting down.
"Wait, you're… oh…" Oceanbreeze started to ask, and then looked embarrassed as memories of Phantom saving him, VampVixen, and Featherdrift from Shadowsoul slowly found their way back to him. Oops.
"Yeah, oh" Danny replied. However, he didn't look mad.
"Where in the name of StarClan have you been?" Darkcloud asked, directing his attention back to her and moving her gaze from his should to his face. "You vanished when the rogues did and suddenly you just randomly return?"
"Vanishing is my specialty Darkcloud. I would think you would know that by now" Danny replied. Seeing that neither cat looked the slightest bit amused, he rolled his eyes. "No sense of humor. Anyway, I've been close by."
Of course she got a vague answer. Why wouldn't she get a vague answer? Shaking her head, she asked "so, what made you suddenly re-appear?"
"Dropping by to make sure all is okay with you guys."
"And why would you even care?" Oceanbreeze asked.
Valid question. "Can't a cat do nice things, or do we all have to be asses like you?" Danny asked.
Oceanbreeze's tail lashed in annoyance. He knew what that word meant, but he'd only ever heard it from VampVixen and Danny. "I'm not an ass!"
Laughing at both Oceanbreeze's annoyance and his use of the word 'ass', Danny said "could have fooled me."
Looking at the annoyed warrior, Darkcloud said "Oceanbreeze, calm down." Looking back at Phantom, she said "you should really come to our camp."
Danny sighed. "Aww, do I have to?"
"Seeing as your… abilities allow you to leave us easily, I can't really make you. That means no, I suppose you don't have to. However, since you're helping us, it would be very much appreciated if you did" Darkcloud told him.
Danny closed his eyes for a moment and thought about it, before he opened his eyes again and grinned. "Well, I guess I can make some time to honor a request from you Darkcloud" he said. "However, it will have to wait for morning. I promise I'll see you then!" Before she could reply, Danny went intangible and jumped into the ground.
"Stupid, annoying ghost cat!" Darkcloud hissed"
"Yeah, he annoys me too but there's nothing we can do about it" Oceanbreeze sighed. "Let's finish the patrol now." He needed to get his mind off of Phantom.
"No, I'm rather tired and since Phantom's back, I know he patrols the territory at night, which I'm happy about. Don't worry, we'll still do future night patrols, but we'll go ahead and head back to camp. If we did find someone, I doubt we'd be able to do much of anything. Let's just go back to camp. He had better keep his word and show up in the morning though…"
Oceanbreeze let out a sigh and followed Darkcloud. He knew she had met Phantom before, but he felt she was placing too much trust him. Besides what kind of cat, dead or alive, had the abilities Phantom had displayed? Yeah, sure, he had used those abilities to help them, but that was beside the point. He couldn't speak with Starclan cats, but he knew that they didn't have his abilities. Who knew what else he could do that they didn't know about, and what he would do if he ever decided to use them against them? No, he couldn't bring himself to place his full trust in Phantom.
The next morning…
Oceanbreeze woke up early the next morning. He had guessed that he was the first one up as he was surrounded by sleeping cats. As he started to get up though, he was proven wrong, as one nest was empty. He looked around camp, but no other cat was out and about. Where was Danny? Was he out of camp? Why would he be out of camp so early? Oh well, it didn't matter. He would probably be back later. He let out a breath and sat outside, waiting for Phantom to arrive. That is to say, if Phantom actually showed himself.
Meanwhile, in the forest…
Danny let out a yawn. He was still tired, since he had woken up extremely early so he wouldn't be seen leaving the camp. He had also fallen asleep later than intended last night, so he had also gotten a few hours' sleep. Heh, story of his life, right? That hasn't happened in a while. He had promised Darkcloud he'd come to camp though, and he didn't want to use a duplicate or not show up at all.
I should have just flown away when I had the chance" he mumbled as the familiar white ring appeared around his middle and travelled up and down his body, changing him to his ghost form. He then headed to the camp, going invisible before entering. As soon as he was inside, he looked for Darkcloud. Well, he didn't spot her, but he did spot his favorite blue cat. 'Why the hell his he up?' Danny thought in annoyance. Of course, Oceanbreeze instantly caught his scent and pinpointed his location. Danny didn't care. He continued to look for Darkcloud as Oceanbreeze headed in his direction. He finally spotted her on the far right of the camp. He sunk into the ground right as Oceanbreeze reached where he had been, before rising up beside her. "Here I am, just like I said" he said, keeping his invisibility on for now.
Turning her gaze towards his voice, Darkcloud said "wow, I honestly didn't think that you'd show up." She would have been more surprised at Phantom's voice coming out of nowhere if she didn't know him.
"Aww I didn't startle you" he said in mock disappointment. Seeing her lack of a response, he added on "you're no fun at all." When she started to look annoyed, he asked "so why do you want me here?"
Darkcloud really wasn't in the mood for Phantom's sense of humor. "Follow me, and lose the invisibility. I don't want anyone scenting a cat they can't see."
"Alright, you're the boss" Danny said, doing as instructed and following the dark she-cat to Snowstar's den. Damnit all. He ALWAYS has a reason to come here!
Awake and catching sight of the two cats, Blossompool followed them with a curious look on her face. Who was that cat, and what was he doing here? She supposed she'd find out soon enough.
Other warriors had also woken up by now. Vamp spotted them and whispered "What is he doing here again like that?" The other cats in the camp were looking at each-other. Some vaguely remembered seeing him and hushed whispers broke out. Vamp caught questions and comments such as 'Who is that?' and 'I think I remember him being here before…' and 'Why is he glowing?' among other things.
The three cats reached Snowstar's den, and the leaded turned around so that she was facing them. She was about to ask why they were there, when her gaze focused on Phantom. "…Phantom. It's been awhile."
"Aww, you all missed me it seems. That's so sweet of you all" Danny said.
Darkcloud had an annoyed expression on her face, and shook her head. She had come to terms that Phantom made comments like this to purposefully get on her nerves. It was like his favorite pastime or something. Snowstar looked amused though as Blossompool entered and sat down.
Snowstar nodded to her, briefly acknowledging her. Danny waved his paw and Darkcloud also nodded. Blossompool nodded back, looking at Phantom curiously. "So, Darkcloud said you suddenly left" Snowstar said, directing all attention back to her. "What made you return?"
"Just dropping by to help, in case you need it" Danny replied. "I like to do things like that."
"Where did you even come from?" Blossompool asked, and Phantom looked at her. "You're a spirit, but I've never seen you in StarClan."
"That's because I'm not from StarClan" Danny replied as if it were obvious. "I'm from a two-leg place relatively far away from here, but I just wander from place to place now, helping when I feel that it's necessary." He hoped they accepted that answer.
Blossompool nodded. She figured that this two-leg place must be where Phantom died, and he had just not gone on to wherever the loners and kittypets go to when they die there. She'd never heard of something like that happening, but also supposed that it was possible. "Where have you been staying?"
"Just close by" he replied with a shrug.
"How close?" Darkcloud asked, having gotten the same vague answer last night.
"Closer than you think" he told her. Vamp would kill him for saying that if she ever found out, but messing with Darkcloud's head was fun.
"And what exactly does that mean?"
"Wouldn't you like to know?" Danny asked with a smirk?
Darkcloud finally snapped and leapt at Phantom. He did the same thing he'd done with Oceanbreeze last night and went intangible, letting her pass right through him. "Why won't you fight back?!" she hissed.
"I don't want to" Danny replied simply. "I mean, I can if you want me to, but I really don't. Look, I'm only here to help, I promise."
"We can deal with these rogues ourselves!" Darkcloud said. "We do not need you!"
"Yeah, maybe you can. But what if I told you the rogues aren't your only enemy?"
"They aren't?" Snowstar asked, a look of worry slowly forming on her face.
"A few moons back, about the time the rogues and I stopped showing up, I fought another ghost cat. He was strong too. He didn't even have any of the basic abilities that I had and he was still almost able to overpower me. He told me that his name was Crisis."
"So that's his name…" Blossompool mumbled.
"Turning to the calico she-cat, Danny asked "You've seen him?"
"Only in a vision" Blossompool said. "I saw you two fighting. When Snowstar and I arrived, the only cat there was one of our warriors, Danny." She very clearly remembered that vision and the wounds on Danny. Remembering how quickly he'd healed, she asked "Did he get in the middle of the battle and get injured, and did you do something to make him heal faster?"
'Ahh shit, I did not think of an explanation for that. I'm surprised that wasn't brought up sooner' Danny thought. Of course, since Blossompool had apparently had this vision, she must have come to this conclusion before-hand, and was only confirming it now. "Yes, he did get in the middle of it. I'm sorry I didn't mean for him to get hurt though. I did make sure he'd live though and, as you suspected, used my abilities to help his wounds."
'What all can he do?' Snowstar mentally asked. "Thanks for that" she told him. "Have you seen Crisis since then?"
"No, but I have a feeling that he might be in your StarClan though." It would make sense though. Danny had a feeling that Crisis could have gone through a natural portal into StarClan. Maybe there was one by the Moon Pool.
"That might explain why both Snowstar and I have been unable to reach them" Blossompool said. "Do you think it's possible for him to cut off our connection?"
"That's a distinct possibility. Some ghosts are stronger than others, and Crisis could either be cutting off your connection with some sort of ability, or threatening the cars of StarClan. Ghosts can die again and if they do, they're sure to be gone for good.
"Is there any possible way that you could enter StarClan?" Darkcloud asked.
"I don't know how Crisis has managed to get in and out" Danny told them. "Unless I can find an actual way in, there's nothing I can do unless he comes here."
"Do you think Crisis is talking to the rogue leader?" Snowstar asked.
"Again, it's possible" Danny said.
"Well, what do we do now" Blossompool asked.
"I usually fly around both territories nightly. I'm surprised none of the other clan's warriors have seen me. If I find anything, I'll come to one of the leaders. It'll probably be you, since LavaClan's leader doesn't know me. If it's something on her territory, you can always, you know, let her know."
Snowstar nodded thoughtfully, before saying "I want you to come to our gatherings."
'Shit, that might be hard to pull off' he mentally said. "Maybe. I don't know, we'll see."
"Why's that?"
"I just don't know if I'll be able to."
"It would be better if you could speak with both clans at the same time" Darkcloud pointed out.
She did make a point there. Duplication was a bitch sometimes, and he wasn't as good at as Vlad was and it tired him out, so he'd only probably come on nights where he wasn't chosen to come to a gathering. Of course, given there were nights like that. "We'll see" he repeated. "I may show up, but not at every gathering. I'll see what I can do."
That really wasn't the answer Snowstar wanted, but it seemed to be the best that she was going to get. "Alright then. Thanks, I guess."
"Is that all you need? Can I go now?" Danny asked.
"Yes, you can go" Snowstar said, nodding.
"Alright then, bye everyone!" he said before falling into the ground.
"I hate it when he does that" Darkcloud said as she looked at the spot where Phantom had been just a moment ago.
This chapter was fun to write. And even more fun to have to re-write -w- Re-introducing Phantom, and sort of giving a re-intro to Crisis even though he hasn't made an actual re-appearance. Ahh Danny, why do you like to poke fun at the short tempered cats.
