Fai wandered the rows and rows of books in the royal library. King Ashura was going to be in meeting for most of the day and the blonde was running out of ways to amuse himself. Banned from wondering Celese during the blizzards that had been raging for weeks, studying was the only thing left to do.
In all the years he had lived in Celese he had read a great many books form the vast collection at Luvel—but there were many more for him to get though yet. Stopping randomly he pulled out a book and plopped down on the floor to read it.
Something about demons—it didn't really matter so long as it was interesting. Flipping through the pages his attention was caught by the section labeled "Vampires." The blonde repeated the word a few times, it felt strange on his tongue.
It took Fai an entire day to read through every book he could find on the subject of Vampires. There wasn't much that was written by creditable sources—if a thing such as vampires even existed to have facts about them in the first place.
The blonde had never met one before so he couldn't say for sure. Though he supposed it would be interesting to meet a vampire.
From what he could surmise—they had to drink human blood in order to survive. They were stronger and faster than a regular person, with an increased healing ability, and most possessed some form of magic it appeared. These powers came at a price.
Other than having to hunt humans—it seemed there were a bunch of things they couldn't do. One book claiming they could not venture out during the day light, another that there reflection couldn't be seen in mirrors. To the blonde's amusement, one book even claimed they couldn't balance spoons on their noses.
That would just take all of the fun out of life…
The poor miserable creatures seemed to be feared and hated. Fai could empathies—it was awful to be despised for something you had no control over.
Perhaps Ashura-ou would be able to tell him if such creatures lived in Celese. The blonde made a mental note to ask the king, as well as his tutors. Returning the books to their proper places he headed out of the room.
He had gotten so caught up in his reading that Fai had forgotten all about lunch. The kitchen staff were more than happy to whip him something up and as he was heading out the door he swiped a spoon.
He had an amazing idea.
Taking the long way back to the library, he walked past the king's office and was delighted to see that the lights were on.
Perfect.
Fai knocked twice before popping his head in and grinning at the king. Ashura only glanced up momentarily from the report he was reading to see who it was, before he refocused his attention to the task at hand. The blonde walked behind the heavy wooden desk to sit on the windowsill.
Waiting for the appropriate amount of time to pass, so as not to raise any suspicions, the blonde got into position.
"Ashura-ou isn't it beautiful outside?" The king didn't look up from what he was reading, and it took a moment for what the little mage had said to register.
"Fai—there is a blizzard going on. The weather has been miserable for weeks." Fai bit his bottom lip as the king sighed.
"Yes but it's an awfully beautiful blizzard my king." The king wrote some a note in the margin for a correction he wanted made before flipping the page again.
"I don't think I have ever seen a beautiful blizzard child."
"Don't you want to see?"
"How can I with the curtains drawn shut little one?" Fai whipped his head around and sighed at his own foolishness. That may have been a good thing to consider…
"What's really going on?" the king finally set his pen down and slowly turned to look at his adoptive son. Seizing the opportunity, Fai very gently placed the spoon on the king's nose and burst out into laughter as it stuck.
"Goodness child—what on earth type of game is this?" Ashura was obviously amused as he spoke, a smile in his eyes.
"It's not a game. I just wanted to make sure you're not a vampire is all." The blonde all but skipped to the front of Ashura's desk and admired his handy work.
"What on earth put that thought in your head little one?" The king grabbed the spoon and regarded his reflection in the polished meatal. The blonde could be so silly some days.
"Well you see, I can across this book in the library and the similarities are startling. You're really pale—you neeeever go outside—the bright lights at events give you headaches—so I thought that maybe you had a dirty little secret." Fai managed to keep his face strait for the most part by biting the inside of his cheek.
"For one, we have the same complexion. You are also not fond of artificial lights and I certainly don't stay cooped up for kicks and giggles, child. I'm working."
The blonde batted his eyes lashes innocently and Ashura chuckled. "Even if I were a vampire—just how do you plan on proving it with a spoon?"
"I read a book that said vampires can't balance spoons on their noses. I'm glad you're not a vampire." The smile the blonde offered this time was soft and the king shook his head.
"Well how do I know that you're not a vampire?" The king picked up his pen and started to make another correction. Fai wasn't the only one who could tease.
"Because I don't drink blood obviously."
"Well neither do I."
"How do I know what you do in your free time?"
"I haven't had free time since you moved to Celese. Aside from that—how do I know what you do in your free time? You wonder all about. Who knows who you may have encountered?" Ashura turned to the next page and continued to skim though quickly while Fai pouted in the chair across from him.
"I guess you're right there…. But I'm not I swear!"
Ashura sighed before looking up from his paperwork, leaning forward he put the spoon on the blonde's nose only to have it fall off.
"Nothing more than an old wives tale, See?" Ashura couldn't help but smile at the face Fai made. "There are no such creatures here in Celese. Perhaps far to the south where it's warmer but not anywhere near us. No need to fret over such things.
Fai settled back in his seat slightly disappointed that he wouldn't get to meet one. Maybe one day he the king allow for him to travel south and he could search one out. For now though—he just wanted to figure out how to balance this blasted spoon on his nose.

Fai stood in the kitchen of the group's new apartment making cookies for the children. Kurogane was sitting at the dining room table reading the paper and sipping his coffee.
The mage loved baking. Well, to be truthful—his favorite part was eating the raw sugar stuffed batter once he was done. Even now that he had been transformed by the ninja into a vampire in order to save his life, Fai still loved sugar.
Just as he slipped the last batch into the oven the blonde turned to clean up when he noticed a very appetizing cookie dough covered spoon sitting on the table. Peeking at Kurogane then back at the spoon Fai just couldn't resist, even if he technically didn't need human food to survive any longer.
Licking the cookie dough slowly he savored the taste, jumping when he heard the ninja.
"Aren't there raw eggs in that?" the ninja looked over his paper. The mage glared back harshly and licked the spoon again.
"Maybe."
"Wont that make you sick or something?" Fai licked the spoon again and the ninja set down his paper.
"The eggs were fresh its fine." Kurogane gave him an annoyed look.
"Isn't that basically sugar, butter, chocolate and raw eggs?"
"And baking soda and a pinch of salt." The ninja shook his head.
"That sounds disgusting."
Fai walked out of the kitchen and sat next to the cranky ninja. "Don't knock it till you try It." the blonde held out the spoon.
"You already licked it no way!" Kurogane crinkled his nose and Fai sighed loudly.
"It's not like I have cooties." Turning the spoon around the mage offered it to him again. "Didn't lick this side."
Hesitantly the ninja took ahold off the wooden spoon and lapped at a bit of the cookie dough. The face he pulled was priceless. "That's sickeningly sweet."
"That's why I like it."
"Tch whatever." And with that Kurogane placed the spoon on Fai's nose and went back to his paper. To the blonde's surprise, it stuck there.
"Weird…"
