Okay, okay! Read on!
Yawning, I slightly groaned before reluctantly rolling out of bed before glancing at my phone to look at the time. Seeing as it was just ten past seven in the morning, I hopped back in my bed, smiling to myself at the instant warmth and softness of my bed.
Realization then struck me as I opened my eyes again. Wait, ten minutes after seven? I cursed to myself instantly, realizing that I was probably going to be late for school. I sprang down and practically ran to the bathroom to get ready.
After showering and brushing my hair, I walked into the kitchen to look for something to eat. Eggs? Nah, I always seemed to burn them. Pancakes? I rolled my eyes. As if I could bake, I thought to myself sarcastically. I just decided to make myself toast as I grabbed some strawberry jam and a few slices of bread.
"You're up early, Dawn," my mother remarked when she walked into the kitchen.
I glanced at the time in my phone. "Yeah, I don't want to be late for school," I said before hurriedly biting into my toast that was now coated with the strawberry jam.
My mom looked at me as if I had gone insane. I was confused. Was I missing something? "Dawn, did you forget?" she asked, escaping a small grin.
Now, I was really confused. What was she insinuating? "Forget what?"
"It's winter break, Dawn. Friday was your last day remember?"
I stopped chewing and that was when I remembered that indeed, school did close for winter break last Friday. But could you blame me? This past month had been absolutely…unpredictable; especially with Serena and Kenny. "Oh…right," I said sheepishly, before finishing the toast. "I can't believe I woke up early for nothing."
My mom smiled. "Well, not for nothing. You could help me with something," she said and the way she said it made me realize she was hinting at me. I narrowed my eyes.
"With what?"
I saw a faint blush spread across her cheeks and I had to bite back a grin. "David wants to go to dinner tonight. And I need a new dress. Think you can help?"
I instantly stood up from my seat, absolutely thrilled for her. "Of course! Let's go shopping right now! I'll choose the perfect date outfit for you, mom," I said, winking at her.
I saw her roll her eyes while I escaped a small laugh. "The stores don't open till two hours later, so in the meanwhile you can go back to sleep."
I nodded. "Okay, thanks," I said, picking my plate and putting it in the sink. I walked back over to her and kissed her cheek. "Love you, mom."
It took around five hours for us to find the perfect dress. I had been exhausted, but it was well worth the time. We ended up purchasing a long red silky dress with spaghetti straps and when my mom had tried it on in the changing room, she looked absolutely breath-taking. She was reluctant to purchase the dress at first seeing the extravagant price, but being the sneaky daughter that I am, I convinced her to buy it.
I poked my head into her room and noticed she was putting slight makeup on. "Mom, hurry up. David's going to be here soon," I said matter-of-factly. It was fifteen to six at the moment and he was going to be here in fifteen minutes.
"I'm almost done," she replied just before she sprayed perfume on herself. She straightened her dress before looking at me. "How do I look?"
I winked. "Totally hot!" I exclaimed just as she rolled her eyes.
The doorbell rang and my mom's eyes widened before I sneakily announced, "I'll get it!" Before she could retort, I ran away from her room and to the front door with a slight smirk on my face. I opened the door, revealing David. He was wearing a red buttoned down long sleeve shirt and dark pants. What the hell? They matched without even knowing the color of their outfits? Talk about goals!
"Hi, David. Looking for someone?" I asked, with a mischievous glint in my eye. David's lips quirked upwards but I cut in before he could continue, "Oh, right, silly me!" I slapped my forehead dramatically. "You're here for the date. Sorry, but, I'm afraid my mom's going to have to cancel the date tonight."
David seemed genuinely shocked at my words. I hoped he couldn't see me fighting a laugh. I just wanted to mess with him, nothing more. "What? Really?"
I dramatically sighed. "Yeah. She said she's not interested anymore. She wants someone that's really going to impress her. Like, have you even given her flowers or any sort of gift?"
David paled. "Uh, well, no but tonight-"
"Dawn!" My mom exclaimed from behind me, cutting David off. I turned around and she just rolled her eyes before stepping in front of David and giving him a kiss on the cheek. "I didn't take too much time did I?"
David had confusion written all over his face. He glanced at her dress. "Wait, so you're not cancelling the date?"
My mom raised an eyebrow at his words. I resisted the urge to burst out laughing and believe me, I wanted to, so badly. "Cancel? Why would I cancel?"
"Dawn told me you were cancelling."
My mom looked at me with a daggered expression. Finally giving in, I started laughing uncontrollably, unable to help myself. "Sorry, I was just messing with you, David."
David gave me a look. "I may be dating your mother, but I still am a police officer. You do know the consequences for messing with an officer like me, right?" Wait, what? There were consequences for pulling a harmless prank? He had to be joking…right?
"Wait what?"
To my surprise, he suddenly brought out his handcuffs seemingly out of nowhere and I widened my eyes. Was he serious right now? He grabbed my wrists and without a second to spare, he cuffed my hands behind my back. I stared at him in shock. "How does messing with you equal an arrest? How does that even make sense?" I then saw my mom slightly chuckling. "Mom! It's not funny!"
"Well, see you after nine, Dawn," David said as he grabbed my mom's hand and began to leave. I dropped my jaw in shock.
"What?! You can't leave me here with my hands cuffed!" I yelled as I started to walk towards them, but the door closed. I tried to reach for the door but my hands were literally tied…or cuffed, I should say. Great, they get to have some fun while I stay here with my hands cuffed together.
Suddenly, I heard my phone beep. I walked towards the dinner table where it was placed and looked at the notification.
That's for messing with me. How'd you like my little dose of revenge? - David
I groaned to myself. He was messing with me? I should have known! But it still wasn't fair of him to leave my hands cuffed. How was I going to get ready for my date with Ash tonight? I needed my hands to get ready!
And don't worry, the keys to the handcuffs are under the mat outside. You'll just have to figure out how to open the door. Good luck! – David
I narrowed my eyes. I made a mental note to myself to never, ever mess with David ever again.
Sighing to myself, I walked back to the door and tried to turn the door knob open while I turned away from it, my back pressed to it. I fumbled with the door knob for about six to seven times before the door finally opened.
…Only for me to fall against my back and head. I slightly groaned to myself. Oh, Arceus, why do you have to be so cruel to me?
"Dawn?"
I heard Ash's voice and my eyes trailed upwards and I saw him looking down at me. "What are you doing on the floor outside?"
"Staring at the ceiling 'cause it's so lovely," I muttered sarcastically. Ash simply chuckled at my sarcastic comment. "David handcuffed me because I was messing with him and the keys are under this mat. Help me up, please."
"Okay, give me your hand."
I gave him a dead look. "Don't you think I would if I could?"
Ash grinned before he placed his hands on my shoulders and I forced my body to sit up. Sighing a breath of relief, I proceeded to stand up. "Okay, now get the key under the mat," I told him. He nodded in response as he looked under the mat.
"Found it," he said, bringing out the key. I grinned to myself as I turned my back against him, stretching out my wrists a little so he could unlock the handcuffs. I heard some jiggling and a 'click' before the handcuffs were finally out.
I turned around with a breath of relief. "Thank Arceus, that was a nightmare. Now I can finally get ready for our date!" I said excitedly as I proceeded to turn around. But Ash quickly grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards him. He looked at me with his chocolate brown eyes, mesmerizing me for a small while as I closed my eyes, waiting.
I didn't feel anything, utterly confused but then I felt the handcuffs again, but only on one of my wrist. I opened my eyes and looked down at it to see it being cuffed with Ash's left wrist. "What the hell are you doing?!" I looked up at him, in slight anger, only to see a smirk tugged at his lips. "Ash, unlock us right now!"
"No can do, babe," he winked at me, grinning mischievously.
My anger escalated. "What do you mean, 'no can do'?! Unlock us right now or else-"
"Or else, what?" he cut me off, with that stupid yet attractive grin spread on his face.
"Ugh! Why are you being so difficult on our date night?!"
Ash could only escape a small laugh. "You are too cute."
"Ash!"
He laughed again. I scowled at him, wanting to yell out profanities, but I refrained myself from doing so. "Alright, alright. David asked me to mess with you a little and I jumped at the opportunity." What the hell?! David asked him to do this?
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Okay, you guys had your fun. Now please unlock us," I said, rolling my eyes. I couldn't believe they were teaming against me.
"Alright," he said, escaping a slight chuckle before he reached into his pocket with his right hand. He scrunched his eyebrows for a minute as he kept searching the pocket. I stared at him, praying he wasn't going to say what I thought he was. "Oh no," he muttered.
I groaned. "Please don't tell me you lost the key."
He looked at me. "Alright. I didn't lose the key."
I smiled at him excitedly. "Really?"
"No, I'm lying," he said and I rolled my eyes in the process.
"This is all your fault! Why'd you have to cuff us together?!"
"Oh come on Dawn, it was just a harmless prank!" He retorted.
I glared at him. "Well look at what your harmless prank's done! We're stuck together."
He suddenly smirked. "You say that like it's a bad thing," he said, causing my cheeks to burn.
"Let's just look for the key," I said, looking the other way. Ash simply chuckled before he walked the other way, which only caused me to yelp out in pain as he yanked my cuffed hand.
Ash looked at me with concern. "Sorry," he said.
I sighed to myself, sadly. I was beginning to get frustrated with myself. If I hadn't messed with David, I probably would've already been on the date. This was all my fault. "Sorry for blaming you, Ash. Because of me, we can't even go on our date."
He looked at me, appalled. "Are you kidding? I'm having fun right now. Having my girlfriend handcuffed to me has always been my dream," he winked. He laughed at my daggered look that I shot at him. "I'm just kidding. But, who says we still can't go on the date?"
I looked at him, raising an eyebrow. "But how am I going to get ready? I'm not dressed yet."
He looked at me from head to toe, almost allowing my cheeks to redden again. I was just dressed in a black tank top and a pink skirt, while my hair was roughly combed. "You look fine to me. Plus, I was just planning for us to get ice-cream together where Drew works at."
I analysed the option. The ice cream parlour was about four blocks away and obviously, Ash couldn't drive. I smiled. "Alright. I missed ice cream that other night too, so I can make up for that."
Ash returned the smile. "Exactly." He tried holding my free hand with his free hand, but our positions ended up looking so awkward that we laughed. I just decided to hold his handcuffed hand with mine as we started to walk.
Ash opened the ice cream parlour door and instantly a bell was heard as the door hit against it. We instantly saw Drew working behind the counter, serving a customer. "Hey man," Ash said as we walked towards him.
Drew looked at him, grinning. "Oh, hey." And then, he looked at me. "Hey, Dawn. Wait…you two are on a date?" I nodded in response, but Drew seemed confused. "Not that I'm not happy for you two, but aren't you worried about Serena?"
Ash shook his head. "Not anymore, I'm not. Serena got busted and she got arrested. You know she was blackmailing me for nothing?" Drew's eyebrow raised upwards in curiosity and Ash continued. "Turns out, I didn't sleep with her in the first place. Kenny did." He told him, and Drew let out a breath.
"Wow," he muttered. "Well, finally, that bitch got what she deserved." We both nodded in response. "Well anyway, what'll it be?"
"Will I get a discount for being your friend?" Ash asked with a hopeful grin.
Drew rubbed his chin, pretending to think. "Hmmm….no," he said. "Pay full price, Ash," he said, escaping a grin. "You're loaded, anyway." I could tell he was just kidding, but Ash rolled his eyes.
"Come on man, do us this solid. Look," he said, bringing up our handcuffed hands upwards so that Drew could see them, "We're literally stuck together."
Drew stifled a laugh. "How'd that happen?"
I decided to cut into the conversation. "Long story short, Ash was messing with me and lost the key."
Drew burst out laughing, and I stared at him, appalled. Ash was chuckling a bit too. How was being hand-cuffed to my boyfriend funny? "Geez, well I was only kidding, anyway. I was never going to ask you to pay. But now, consider it on the house for being handcuffed to your girl," he said, escaping a grin. I groaned.
Ash laughed again. "Thanks, Drew. So, what'll you have, Dawn?"
I looked at all the flavours and even though they all looked delicious, I only always seemed to pick my all-time favourite flavour. "Chocolate chip," I said.
"Okay, one chocolate chip and a vanilla for me," he said.
Drew nodded as he took out the ice-cream spoon. "Cone or cup?"
"Cone," I said for the both of us.
Within two minutes, Drew handed Ash a cone with two scoops of vanilla ice cream and I was handed a cone with two scoops of chocolate chip. I grinned at the sight of it and instantly bit into it…but not expecting the brain freeze. I groaned.
Ash frowned. "What?"
"Brain freeze," I muttered.
Ash chuckled at me. "Come on, let's go sit down," he said before I walked along with him, as we struggled to find a seat. Most of the tables were filled. Luckily, there was one seat available.
Ash sat down and while I was struggling to find another seat, he suddenly yanked me forwards, practically forcing for me to sit on his lap. I had almost dropped my ice cream in the process and my wrists were slightly turning red because of the scraping metal. But I didn't really care.
He licked at his ice cream. "Do you remember when you sat on my lap in the bus?" he asked, as a grin slowly spread across his features.
I instantly flashbacked to the memory. I remember the bus had suddenly jerked forwards which ended with me sitting on his lap. I laughed, thinking things had been so different back then. "Yeah. I hated you back then," I said.
He returned the laughed. "I know."
The ice cream was starting to melt so I licked it some more. Man, this was really good. We both finished the ice cream and I bit the cone. "Though, I don't think I ever hated you as much as I hated Serena. She was so annoying. One time, May and I were in the mall and she wanted the same top that I wanted, but we ended up ripping it apart because we were pulling against it." I explained, recalling the memory. Ash seemed intrigued at the story. "And she kept calling me a boyfriend stealing bitch," I said.
Ash looked like he was trying to remember something. "Wait, was it that day when May was asking for a ride to the mall?"
I nodded, slightly surprised he'd remember a small detail like that. Who would have known? Then, I instantly recalled that dream I had of making out with Ash just before he had shown up. I laughed at the irony.
"What?" he asked, noticing my amused expression.
I shook my head. "It's nothing," I said, not wanting to tell him that I had a dream about making out with him. That would just boost his ego.
"Oh, come on, tell me," he said, almost pleading.
Eh, why not? I thought to myself, before my cheeks reddened a bit. "Well, just before you gave us a ride, I was trying to avoid you because of what happened earlier," I said and as expected, his eyes turned amused. His free hand touched the side of my waist.
"I…I had a dream that we were," I cleared my throat before continuing, "making out," I finished softly so he couldn't hear.
Ash raised an eyebrow, smirking. I wondered if he had heard me or not. "What?" he asked.
I sighed exasperatingly. "I had a dream where we were making out."
Ash's smirk widened. "Oh, I heard you the first time, I just wanted to make sure," he said.
My jaw dropped as I scowled at him. "You are so annoying!" I spat in anger as he escaped a few laughs. "Stop laughing!"
He stopped laughing, but he still grinned. "See, I always knew you had a thing for me. You never hated me at all. You were just really in denial," he said, with full amusement in his eyes. I just knew it would boost his ego. I couldn't say I didn't warn myself though.
I rolled my eyes. "Whatever."
Ash pressed closer towards me and his hand tightened around my waist, allowing my heart to start beating repetitively. "Do you wanna make that dream come true?" His voice was low and a bit husky as his eyes dropped to my lips.
"Yes," I said, almost too eagerly.
Ash chuckled before closing his lips on mine. He slightly tasted like vanilla. Usually, I wasn't a fan of the public display of affection and would be mortified, but the way he was kissing me made me understand why people would make out in public. I tried to pry my hand in his hair, but we both yelped out in slight pain. "These handcuffs are getting in the way," Ash said.
"Yeah." I nodded. "If only we had another key or something," I muttered.
Ash looked at me as if he had a thought going on in his brain. "Wait, shouldn't Officer David have spare keys?"
I shrugged. "Maybe. But he's with my mom right now on a dinner date."
"Well it can't hurt to try. Plus, if he had handcuffs, then he probably should have a few spare keys with him. Now where are they at?"
I remembered the name of the restaurant they were going at when my mom had told me earlier just before she was getting ready. "Chancey Fancy. I think it's really far from here though. Why don't we just wait for them to come back?"
Ash's lips tugged upwards. "So you're enjoying being with stuck with me?"
I scoffed. "Of course not." Okay, that was a lie. I thought being handcuffed to Ash was going to be terrible, especially on our date, but it was actually really enjoyable.
He rolled his eyes. "Still in denial I see." I ignored his comment. "Well, I don't mind waiting, but these cuffs are really starting to hurt…" he confessed.
I looked at my wrist and saw it had reddened even more. "Yeah me too. But how are we going to get there? You can't drive with our hands together."
Ash frowned before he looked around, stopping at Drew. I looked towards him as well, and noticed he was clocking out. "Hey Drew!" I called out.
The chartreuse headed male walked out and came to our table before rolling his eyes. "Okay, seriously guys, don't scare off the customers," he said in slight disgust at the sight of us.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "As if you've never done this with May," I retorted, with a slight smirk.
He shrugged, slightly chuckling. "Touché."
Ash decided to cut to the chase. "We need a ride to where David's at since he probably has another spare key for these handcuffs. He's at a restaurant with Dawn's mom. Do you mind?"
Drew waved him a hand. "Nah, don't worry. I'll drive you guys there. I'm finished with my shift anyway."
I sighed with relief as I got out of Ash's lap. "Thanks so much, Drew."
Drew got out his car keys from his pocket. "By the way, who even carries around handcuffs, especially on a date? Is he planning to-"
"Do not finish that sentence!"
Both guys laughed as we exited out of the ice-cream parlour.
We arrived at the restaurant in less than thirty minutes. Ash and I had thanked Drew before he left and we made our way into the restaurant, looking for both David and my mom. I eyed around for them hopelessly but there were too many people here.
Ash suddenly looked at me. "Would this be a bad time to tell you that I have to pee?"
My eyes widened. "What? Now?" How the hell was Ash going to pee when our hands were stuck together? "Can't you hold it in?" I asked desperately.
"I'm trying," he groaned. "Did you see David?"
I shook my head in response. "No, not yet." I looked around, this time, very carefully and much to my fortunate luck, I spotted David's red shirt. My mom was sitting across from him and they seemed to be laughing. "Never mind, I found them!" I exclaimed excitedly.
"Okay, great now let's go and ask for the key," he said before I nodded and we started walking towards them.
As I got a closer look though, I could see my mom biting on something and she let out a small gasp as she saw something in her food. I stopped walking, which effectively made Ash stop walking as well. He looked at me, with confusion on his features. I motioned towards them and silently instructed him to look. I think I had a slight idea of where this was going and I couldn't stop the grin from escaping me.
My mom gasped in shock when David got down on his knee. Everyone in the restaurant was looking towards them with intensity and no one made a noise. "Johanna Berlitz," he started, "I didn't know that meeting you at the hair salon one day would lead to this," he said. Everyone escaped a laugh, even my mom, and she was practically crying out of joy. "But it did. And I can't seem to see myself with anyone other than you. I love you." The crowd was practically cooing and so was I. "Johanna, " he continued, "would you do the honour of making me the happiest man alive and be mine forever?"
Come on, mom! Say yes!
My prayers were answered.
She nodded her head and the rest of the crowd cheered loudly as David slipped the ring into her finger. I squealed, absolutely overjoyed at the mere sight of this.
"This is great and all, but…I still have to pee."
I laughed at Ash when he said that and decided to walk towards them. "Mom!"
She looked at me, surprise written all over her face. "Dawn? Ash? What are you guys doing here?"
I brought our handcuffed hands up. "Please tell me you have another spare key, David," I said, my eyes practically begging for a positive response.
He smirked. "I wouldn't be a police officer if I didn't," he said, as he reached into his pocket. We both sighed breaths of relief, that is, until, worry was seen on his face. "Oh no."
I face-palmed. "You don't have the key?"
"Just kidding," was his smug reply as he brought out the key. I rolled my eyes before he finally unlocked us, removing the handcuffs.
Ash blew a breath. "Finally, now excuse me as I do my business," he said to us before he walked away, with me giggling in response.
I looked towards them, recalling the proposal. "Remind me to never mess with you again…Dad," I said, slightly smiling at David. He chuckled at what I said, and my mom simply smiled as well. "I'm so happy for you, mom," I said, hugging her tightly.
"Thank you dear," she said, returning the hug. We both released and my mom looked at me again. "I am so proud of what you've become," she said. I raised an eyebrow, not understand what she meant, but she continued. "Before you were so immature and irresponsible but look at you now. You've improved a lot Dawn and I couldn't be prouder."
I wanted to cry and laugh at the same time. "Thanks, mom," I said, becoming a bit teary-eyed. David, or Dad, I should say, smiled as he pressed his hand on my shoulder in a loving manner. I had a feeling that having him as my father would be an amazing experience.
Ash returned to our table. "So what did I miss?"
"How exactly did you lose the key, Ash? That wasn't our plan," David said.
Ash chuckled, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. "It was a good thing you had a spare one, huh?"
"Yeah, but poor Dawn had to suffer the entire day 'cause of us," David said. I grinned.
"May I remind you that I was stuck too?" Ash shot him a daggered look.
"Dawn is going to be my daughter now, so she's more important," he retorted. I smirked towards him and stuck out my tongue at him, causing him to roll his eyes. I walked towards him and he kissed my forehead.
I looked at the two of them. "Well, the night is still young. Why don't you guys dance?" My mom widened her eyes and looked mortified, but David, I mean my soon to be dad, wasn't against the idea. He gave her his hand and she accepted, leading her to the center.
I looked at the two as she placed her hands around his neck while he placed one hand on her waist and one on her shoulder. I smiled. I had never seen mom so happy before.
"So, when you said the night was young, did you mean it for them or for us too?" Ash commented, holding my hand.
I grinned. "Both." He smiled and brought me to the centre of the restaurant as well.
We repeated what mom and David had done as we slow danced to a tune playing. He kissed me slowly, bringing me closer and I grinned, kissing him back. Our lips separated. "You know if I hadn't lost the key then you would've missed David's speech."
I rolled my eyes. "Do you want me to reward you or something?"
Ash laughed. "Yes," he replied, kissing me again.
I sighed happily. This had been a memorable night so far. I couldn't ask for a more special day than this. And it all happened because of the handcuffs.
XD This chapter was really fun to write hehe. Tell me what you guys think!
There are probably only two or three chapters left, sadly. I know, I know, I don't want it to end either. But as the saying goes 'All good things must come to an end'.
See you guys next time.
