Chapter Nine

"Leaving the castle"

The Daiyōkai went about his normal work. Running the Western lands was an easy feat for this great demon, as he had been doing for quiet a few years by now, though when he had first learned about the role he was being set into. The role he had been automatically given since his idiotic father's death, a role he had been trained to take since he was a little man. Though sometimes the work got boring and tiring that he needed an escape, a reason to leave the castle that sometimes felt more like a jail then a home. Any excuse would work, and he was getting to that point that an excuse would be needed. So when the option presented it self before him easily he took it.

As the sun rose that morning after the Daiyōkai had found the sleeping female in his garden, he had set to work doing his usual work. Breakfast came and went with out a flaw or a sign of either of the females that were in current residence in house hold, though around noon the sound of giggling down the hall way did have his head twitch once to the door, as if he could watch Rin run down the hall with Inuyasha's wench in tow, through the heavy doors. He only looked at it for one glare of a minute before glancing down at his paper work at hand, only to hear a soft knocking upon the door two minutes later. Not even glancing up to see who it was, for he knew by the sound of the knock it was Rin. He did not need to answer, for her to enter. She knew if she really needed something she may enter, If it wasn't important, she would not have knocked in the first place.

"Lord Sesshomaru." Rin greeted with a small bow, with a bright smile. "I was wondering..." She chimed as she walked over to his desk. "If we could take a break for a while... And go to the villages on your lands. I would love to show Lady Kagome them." She said, more then asked, as she knew very well that what ever she wanted, she had always gotten. And here, here was his escape, his excuse. Rin did always have perfect timing. Always seeming to read the tension he would emit, though he showed no emotion. This young girl knew him better then most of his servants, and sometimes he begun to wonder if that was a good thing, or a weakness. The thought never lasted long in his head though, as other important things would take first thought. Standing he turned and walked around the desk, leaving Rin to stand there and watch him, awaiting her answer.

"Gather Jaken and.." he almost spat out Inuyasha's wench, but he paused, thinking Rin was better off from hearing that word, and corrected him self. "And Kagome and gather Ah-Un. We leave at sun down." He stated simply as he walked out of the room, ignoring the cheerful "yay!" And laugh of Rin behind him, for he had to prepare the castle for his leave, make sure everything was in perfect order for when he was gone, while he heard Rin take into a run behind him and turn the opposite direction, doing as she was told, as she always has done.

At sun down, Kagome and Rin sat on the grass at the front of the castle gates. They had been there for quiet a few hours actually, packed quiet a while ago and raring to go, they decided to have their diner on a patch of soft grass, and was just finishing up cleaning. Handing their dinner dishes and cloth they sat on to a servant when Sesshomaru walked up.

"let's go." He said simply, walking ahead, not barring to give them any kind of look. He seemed unaware. or was he really aware, that Jaken had yet to join them. Kagome looked to the girl before her, who was grabbing Ah - Un's reins and begun walking, she fell instep with the girl. "What about Jaken?" She asked only mildly curious. If that imp like creature decided not to join them, it would be a quiet journey, a rather pleasant one, but as she said the words, she let out a sigh as the annoying sound of his voice caught up to them. "Wait! Lord Sesshomaru!" jaken yelled, quiet out of breath by the time he had reached them, Sesshomaru had kept on walking not pausing a moment, as Rin had paused, with Kagome as well.

"Rin! You should have warned me before that we were about to set off!" He yelled at the young girl, who only frowned.

"But I did, Master Jaken. I told you we were to leave at sun down." The girl Explained, as Jaken continued on his rant as they begun to follow after the Lord once more. Kagome begun to feel a tad sorry for the girl, having to deal with Jaken blaming everything on her, though she put up good fronts, and never seemed to be bothered about being blamed at all, as after a while of silence, the girl begun humming a tune and nearly skipping as they walked.

"This village we are going to, RIn. Do you like it that much?" kagome asked, trying to make a small light talk. The girl nodded her head with a bright smile.

"Very much! The place has many shops that sell lots of interesting things. And another store that sells very pretty Kimonos." Rin nearly beamed as she explained that the last time they had went to this town, she had come back with two new Kimonos that she was only to ware around the castle, for she was afraid of ruining them on their travels, as well as a really nice comb that made her hair feel really silky, and some kind of toy Kagome could not name.

For the next few hours as the sun had set and the moon was rising. Kagome and Rin kept talking about small things, or anything they could think of. Rin seemed to be very interested in Kagome's time, as Kagome told her stories about it, and asked many questions that Rin had asked. Though Jaken would interrupt many times, telling Kagome to stop telling tales and fables, as these things could never exists and that there was no possible way she was from the future. Kagome chose to ignore him every time. Though she was surprised, and not at the same time, to find that the Lord walked on ahead with out a single word or movement other then the movement it took to walk. Till the moon was high over head did he stop walking.

"Camp here." he told them, as he turned and walked off, leaving Rin and Jaken to start gathering fire wood and make a fire. The here was a simple clearing in the trees along the path they where walking, it was a few feet into the forest to give them some privacy, but not far from the worn path that they could get lost.

Giving the two help, they got the fire up and burning rather quickly. With Ah - Un laying near by, Kagome sat near his side, as Rin curled up into it with a yawn. With one more story from her time, Rin was sound asleep by the fire, as well as Jaken on the other side. A small snot bubble growing and shrinking with each even breath he took. Yawning herself, Kagome was close to snuggling into the dragon steed's side when she sensed something. it was odd, for she never sensed anything before, but her ears twitched upon her head, her nose twitched with a scent that seemed oddly familiar. She stood to her feet and looked around her. She tried seeing if she could sense a jewel shard near by. wondering if with her new form if she still could even sensing them, though she could feel the jewels still in the jar around her neck, it still didn't give a good answer.

Looking around her, she moved around the two headed dragon and towards the lines of trees. "Who's there?!" She called out lightly, afraid to awake Rin or Alert Jaken that someone else was here. It didn't take long till a flash of red appeared before her and she was staring into golden eyes. Her heart jumped once in her chest, once outta the sudden appearance before her, the second because she wasn't sure she was ready to face this person yet as she breathed his name out on a whisper. "Inuyasha."
