"Wow, I really didn't think you'd show." a voice said from behind me.
I jumped a little then turned around and scowled at him.
"Don't you know it's rude to scare people." I said crossing my arms over my chest.
He smirked, "Scared you, huh?" he asked floating closer to me.
I rolled my eyes, "So, why did you want to meet me here? Don't you have other people to terrorize?" I asked sarcastically.
He smirked, "I like you. You're not like other girls I've meet before. You can stand your ground. I find you... interesting." He said.
I raise my eyebrow in question, "Interesting? That's it, that's why I'm here, to amuse you?" I asked getting mad at him.
I have lessons in the morning, at 6 to be exact. Father is making me do extra lessons to cover the time that I missed.
"Well, in a way." he started but I didn't let him finish.
I started walking home fuming mad. He got in front of me and held me by the shoulders, I glared at him as he softened his gaze a little.
"But I also thought we could do something a little fun." he said.
"Fun how?" I asked.
He smirked at me like he was saying 'wouldn't you like to know'.
"Come with me and find out." he said grinning and holding out a hand to me.
I look at him questionably, "C'mon, you can trust me." he said.
After a moment's hesitance I let him take me by the hand. He started to lift off into the air, I freaked out a bit and held on to him.
He chuckled, "You have a fear of heights." he observed.
"Well, you can't really be afraid of something you've never done before. But yes, heights and I don't go well together." I told him, fisting my hands in his red plaid flannel shirt.
"Oh? Well, then. I'd be happy to help you get over your fear." he said, sounding like he's up to something.
My eyes widen with realization, "Marshall Lee!"
I screamed as I shot up in the air like a rocket with his laughter covering my scream of pure terror. My arms are around his neck and my legs are sort of just dangling, as I make my grip tighter on his shirt.
He makes a choking noise, "Calm down, Anya. You're going to choke me to death!" Marshall Lee said irritated.
Anya? Who the heck is Anya? Oh, wait. Yeah, that's me. I forgot. I took my mother's name as my own so he wouldn't know my true name. I doubt there are many Fionna's in the world. My mother's name was Anastasia "Anya" Rose Haygen, she was a lady-in-waiting for the queen, my grandmother, when she was my age.
"Huh? Oh, I'm sorry Marshall Lee." I said losing my grip on him a little.
He chuckled a bit, "It's fine. I'm not gonna let you fall. But get ready." he said.
I looked at him confused, "Ready? Ready for what?" I asked.
He smirked at me mischievously. Next thing I know is he's getting smaller and smaller as I fall to the earth. You'd expect me to scream the whole way. Well, I did scream at first but then the rush of the wind along my body gave me an adrenaline I didn't know existed. I closed my eyes and let myself fall. This isn't so bad, this is...fun. I giggle a little, this is really fun! I love this. I open my eyes again and see the ground catch up to me. I gasped and put my hands in front of me waiting for impact but it doesn't come. I'm caught. I look up and open my eyes slowly to see crimson red one's staring back at me.
"It kind of looked like you were having too much fun." he said chuckling.
I giggled, "Yeah, I was. I never felt anything like that. It must be nice to be able to fly, to have that freedom. You don't know how lucky you are." I tell him in all honesty.
"I take it you don't get much freedom." I nod.
"Which is the reason why I have to sneak out. I'd love nothing more than to see beyond what's in front of me." I tell him.
I find it comfortable to talk to Marshall Lee for some reason. Whatever that reason is I like it. I like being able to talk to someone besides my brother about my true feelings and desires.
"Ah, you've got the heart of an adventuress. I admire that." I look up to him, smiling down at me in honesty.
I smile back. After a while of him just flying me around in silence I get a little bored and impatient.
"Marshall Lee?"
"Hmm..." I sighed.
"Please tell me where you're taking me." I practically begged.
"Nah, it'll take the fun out of it." he said chuckling.
I puffed out my cheeks in an annoyed sigh and began to play with a short lock of his midnight black hair.
He's still holding me bridal side now and I need to do something to not be bored.
He chuckled, "Geez, Anya. Am I that much of a bore to you?" he asked.
"Huh?" I asked looking into his eyes instead of his hair.
He looked back into my eyes and it seemed that whatever he was about to say got lost on his tongue. He finally shook his head and chuckled.
"Nothing. We're almost there, promise." he says.
I shrug and go back to the lock of hair I was twirling. After a while we landed outside of a club.
"This is where you wanted to take me? A club?" I asked raising a skeptical eyebrow at the place.
"I've got a gig here tonight, I figured you'd like the show." he said shrugging.
I sighed, "This better not take long. I have to be home at sometime you know." I said smiling.
"It won't. C'mon, it'll be fun and you'd better look like you're having a good time. I could drag you off to all my gigs if I have to,Anya." he said a little too serious.
I nodded and giggled and let him take me by the hand into the club. Bodies were everywhere, whether they were practically grinding each other on the dance floor or making out in booths, they were everywhere. And so was the alcohol. He led me through the crowd to the stage.
"Stay right here." I nodded.
I so did not want to get lost in the mess of bodies.
"I have to go on stage now. Can't keep them waiting any longer, I think they're about to start a riot." Marshall Lee said looking back at the crowd.
The crowd was screaming/chanting for 'Marshall Lee and the Dead One's' which I'm guessing is Marshall's band name. Some were throwing beer bottles at the stage and foods, you could hear a splat or shatter every second. I giggled and wished him luck.
"Let's hear some noise!" Marshall screamed in the microphone.
Immediately the crowd erupted in cheer. I didn't know what to do so I just stayed quiet looking around.
"I said, let's hear some noise!" he screamed again only this time he was looking at me.
I shook my head at him. I am not going to embarrass myself and cheer for a rock band. Marshall rolled his eyes at me and turned his attention to the crowd.
"Hello, my fans! Welcome, we're Marshall Lee and the Dead One's but you already knew that." he flashes them a dazzling white smile with his fangs showing.
I hate to say that he looks, really, really attractive when he does that.
"I'm sorry to cut the show short tonight, only one song." the crowd started booing.
"Sorry, guys. I'm on a deadline." he said then winked at me.
The crowd saw and turned the attention on me. I blushed in embarrassment, I bet my face is as red as a tomato by now. Some of them booed and some of them whistled. I know what they are thinking and I'm not too happy about it. They think that Marshall has to cut the show short for me to have sex or something. That is so not the case. I just need him as my guide back to the town square then I can find my own way home.
"I'm gonna sing a little something, you all may know very well. 'Cause you know, I'm an animal." Marshall says 'animal' into the microphone as if he's trying to be seductive.
The crowd cheers even louder, than the drums start. Marshall takes the microphone in his hand, whoops then starts.
Baby girl I'm not quite human/And I'm not quite a machine/So I guess that leaves you staring/At something that's somewhere in between/Yeah, I'm another, hungry lover/But I was born a different breed/I can shake you, but then I'll break you/And baby sweat is guaranteed
Some guys hollered, yeah and the girls swooned. I'm just trying really hard not to blush because of the lyrics.
I wish I could give you my love and my soul/But inside my chest there is nobody home/My heart may be missing/But my hands will make up for it/Don't think this is innocent/I'll sink my teeth right into it/My eyes and my mouth agree/You'll be coming home with me/'Cause girl you know, 'cause girl you know/ 'Cause girl you know, I'm an animal/Animal/I'm just a animal/Animal
Marshall's looking at me again. Do I really look that bored? I don't know how to do this kind of dance, or act at a concert. I've only been to one, and that was last night! I hope he understands that I don't mean to offend him, I just really don't know what to do in a crowd like this. I'm used to balls and princes not clubs and drunk men. I give him an apologetic look. He takes his gaze off me and continues.
Girl you locked the door behind you/When you walked into my room/And your eyes have got me thinking/That maybe there's a different side of you/'Cause when I'm attacking, your nails are scratching/So I wonder could it be/That when your clothes fall to your feet/You could be an animal like me/I wish I could give you my love and my soul/But inside my chest there is nobody home/My heart may be missing/But my hands will make up for it/Don't think this is innocent/I'll sink my teeth right into it/My eyes and my mouth agree/You'll be coming home with me/'Cause girl you know, 'cause girl you know/'Cause girl you know, I'm an animal/Animal/I'm just a animal/Animal
By the chorus of the song I started to get the hang of it. It really is a good song even if it is about sex but still. I like it, I started to loosen up and sing along with Marshall. I even pumped my fist in the air like the guy next to me is. The guy saw this and gave me a confident smile.
"Yeah, there you go, Blondie! Love it!" the guy cheered me on. I laughed and continued to sing along.
Crawling on your hands and knees slowly/Over to me, reach out to touch my face/Anticipation/Push me up against the wall/Whispers and nicks and all these tricks you try and pull/Manipulation/My heart may be missing/But my hands will make up for it/Don't think this is innocent/I'll sink my teeth right into it/My eyes and my mouth agree/You'll be coming home with me/'Cause girl you know, 'cause girl you know/'Cause girl you know, I'm an animal/Animal/I'm just a animal/Animal
The crowd cheered at the end of the song. I found myself cheering along with them. This new feeling of adrenaline and euphoria is something I can't describe in words. It's too amazing to put into one word. For once in my life I found out what it's like to have fun. To let loose. To have no cares for princess duties. For once I was truly free. And it's all thanks to him, Marshall Lee.
*Time Skip: Back at the Town Square*
"Hey, Marshall Lee." I said after he dropped me off at the town square.
We had just said our goodbyes but I called him back.
"Hmm..."
"I just wanted to thank you." I told him with a smile.
"Thank you? For what, Anya?" he asked.
"Oh you know, for showing me what it's like to have fun." he smiled back.
"Your welcome." he said.
"Really I mean it. I'm used to doing things exactly like the book having strict rules to follow. Tonight really showed me a lot, so thank you." he chuckled.
"What? Your daddy some rich man?" he asked.
I giggled, "Yeah, you could say that." I then turned to go but he stopped me by grabbing my arm.
Just a gentle touch from him and I'm immobile. "Who are you really, Anya?" he asked.
I smirked at him, "That's for me to know..."
"...And for me to find out." he finished my sentence.
I smiled at him, "See, you got it. Goodnight, Marshall Lee."
"Wait." he called. I sighed and turned back.
"Will I see you again." he asks with so much hope in his voice.
I look at him, his handsome face almost pleading. As if he'd never see me again. How can he care so much about me when we've only known each other for a night? Better question, how can I care so much about him when I barely know him? I giggled.
"I think I can make an exception. I'll be here, in the square when I can get away. Besides don't you have more to show me?" I asked.
He smiled back, "Of course."
I nodded, "Goodnight Marshall Lee." I said at last and I did leave.
Sounds of his voice telling me goodnight fade in the distance as I go down the ally way that leads to the forest which leads to my palace, to home.
