Light shines through the huge windows as my maid Marie opens up the curtains welcoming the day and waking me up.
"Good morning your majesty, Beautiful day isn't it? Perfect day for a special birthday. Happy 18th Princess Fionna." Marie greets with a warm smile spreading across her face.
I smile back at her, "Thank you Marie."
"Oh your very welcome miss, I already drew you a nice warm bubble bath and laid out your dressing for the day. When you are done, I'll have your ladies come in and get you ready,, breakfast should be served within the hour." Marie instructs as she tidies up a bit in my room before making her exit.
I sigh as I lay in bed looking out the window at the big blue sky, few clouds in sight. Marie is right, it is a beautiful day. I slowly get out of bed and walk to the windows and open them to let in the nice spring breeze, getting some clean air into my room then I walk to my adjacent bathroom, opening the doors I can already see the nice warm steam coming from the bath. I shake my head lightly, Marie never misses anything. I slip out of my night dress and get into the hot bath, letting the water and soap soak into my skin.
I sigh as I settle into the bath, getting my hair wet ready to wash it. I sit up in the bath and put my hair up in a messy bun atop my head as I scrub in the shampoo, the soap running through my fingers.
"Now that's a sight I can get used to." A cocky voice says, I don't need to turn to see that it's Marshall Lee.
His voice surprised me and I splashed in the water, blushing a mad shade of red as I just realized that he saw my upper half. My wet, soapy and naked upper half.
"What the hell Marshall?! Are you crazy?! Your not supposed to be in here. How did you get in anyway?!" I yell frantically.
He pointed towards my windows, "Probably shouldn't leave those open Princess. Any winged creature could wander in uninvited." He said flashing a smirk, taking a step closer to me with every word he speaks..
I scowl at him, "Get out." I said to him firmly.
He is seriously getting me angry that he thinks he has a right to waltz right in my private chambers like it's nothing. Granted we are supposed to get married in a week after today. As for now, I am a unwed virgin princess and he needs to respect my boundaries. He moves closer to me, his lips inches from mine.
"Make me." He said, sly smile and all.
I pout at him, ugh can't I not take a bath in peace?! "Fine, please get out so I can finish my private bath" I said trying the nice, sweet approach.
He gave me a thoughtful look, stepping away from the tub, then looked back at me. "Nah, don't mind me as I watch."
"You're kidding me, right?"
He simply raises an eyebrow at me, "Why not? You'll be my wife soon, I have every right to look upon you."
I scowl at him some more because he is technically right, once we are married, we'll have to consummate the marriage so it can be legitimized and well after that we will have to get used to seeing each other naked. But that is a whole week away, he does not need to look upon me until then. I sigh as I think of a way to get him out, wait a minute. He wants to play games with me, well I can play back.
"You are so right." I said happily as I climb out of the bath.
Exposing every inch of bare skin to him, my hair a mess as it flows down my back, soap and water dripping down my body. The breeze from the window making me a little cold, causing my niples to get hard. Now he is the one who looks confused and is blushing, it's actually kinda cute to see a vampire like him blush. I keep walking toward him, hold out a hand to his chest and gently push him. As he walks backward, I walk forward until I get him to the bathroom doorway. I pull him close to me, making sure he is keeping his eyes on me as I sneak my hand around to grab the door handle.
"We are going to be married soon. So why delay the inevitable?" I ask smirking at him.
He smirks back and grabs my ass bringing me closer to him, "My thoughts exactly."
He pulls me up for a kiss and I gladly give into it. Yes, I may want him to give me my privacy but I can't deny my feelings for him at the same time. Since he confessed a few days ago, that has been on my mind constantly. Of course father made me court him after that but as we talked and understandings were made to each other, I found myself falling for him more so than I originally thought. But right now he has to learn to respect my boundaries before we are married, and that includes not entering my chambers unannounced.
He relaxed into me as we kiss, with a love and passion I've only read about in books. But I have to end it soon, I smirk a little as we kiss and quickly push him with all my might out of the bathroom and hurry to close the doors, locking them so he can't get back in. I'm laughing as I take my win, ha, looks like I just got my way. I giggle as I get back into the warm bath, hopefully I can finish this soon before the water gets to cold. I hear knocking at the door and a slightly angry Marshall on the other side.
"Fionna, are you serious?! You can't just do that to a man!"
I giggle, "Looks like I just did. Now please leave so I can finish getting ready for the day."
"Fine, I'll see you at breakfast."
I giggle more, "Alright, now maybe this will teach you not to come into my room unannounced."
"Fionna, you little tease. I swear I'll get you back for that."
I giggle, "Yeah sure Marshall. Looking forward to it."
"Yeah, I'm sure you will be." He said chuckling.
I started to relax more as I heard his footsteps leave my room and close the door behind him. I smiled a little to myself as I scrubbed my soap out of my hair, rinsing it in the bath. He is something else I swear, he's so confident and bold to do something like that. But then again I did get him to blush, it's nice to know that I alone have that effect on him. I sighed and got out of the bath, grabbed my towel to dry off and put on my robe, then called Marie in to assemble my ladies as I am now ready to get dressed. So far, I think this birthday will be the greatest one yet.
I stand in the middle of my room as my ladies tend to my mane of golden hair, brushing it all out, put into side braids and tied in the back, woven little white violets in my hair. And put my silver tiara on top of my head. Two ladies are attending to my hair as the others attend to clothing me. My usual simple light blue dress and flats, a large box is sitting on my bed next to a slick velvet case. Confused I open the box, I wonder who left it.
A note is written inside the box, it reads,
Happy Birthday my darling daughter. I hope you like your gift, I wore it the day of my 18th birthday and now I pass it down to you. I hope today will be wonderful for you as you leave your girlhood behind and enter the wonders of being a woman. If I know anything it's that I know you will have grown into a strong, confident, courageous and compassionate young woman I always hoped you'd be. I know this time in your life is going to be difficult to get through without me but I promise you, I will always be watching over you. I hope your day is filled with the utmost joy, you deserve it. I love you forevermore, my little Bunny. Happy 18th.
Love,
Mom
Tears filled my eyes as I set the note aside and look what's inside. It's a ball gown, a beautiful one. It reminds me of a dress straight out of a fairy tale, like Cinderella. It's sapphire blue color with inter woven shards of diamond along with clear lace. It is such a beautiful dress. I then opened the velvet case, matching diamond jewelry go along with the dress, earrings and necklace. It's so gorgeous. After I am dressed Marie and my ladies escort me out of my room and towards the dinning room where breakfast is served.
Small talk is made at the table, newly wed Finn and Emily sit across me and my betrothed Marshall Lee, father sits at the end, looking over us all. Finn was married to Emily when father said they would be, it was yesterday, the wedding was a big hit in the whole kingdom. Finn and Emily are to remain here, her younger brother Edward will take over the throne in the Fire Kingdom when it passes down to him, and as for Finn. His coordination will take place in a months time, when my father steps down, after my wedding to Marshall Lee. A wedding that after which I will have to bid this palace, my home, goodbye as I go live my life with Marshall in the Nightosphere. I honestly don't know if I am ready to say goodbye to this place yet. It's where I was born and raised, the last place where my mother was. I'm not sure if I have the will to leave, but I have to. I know I can visit anytime I want but I'm not so sure it will be the same.
"So my darling, how is your birthday so far? Did you receive my gift?"
Gift? Oh my gosh, mom's dress? He is the one that sent it to me. A smile shines across my face as I look at my fathers kind and sad eyes.
I grabbed his hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, "I did."
I then leaned over and kissed his cheek, "Thank you daddy. It means so much to me, I love it."
He chuckled a bit, "I am glad you like it so much."
"For my gift, you'll have to race me for it. We have a score to settle little sister." Finn says with a small grin.
I giggle, "You are so on Finn."
"Alright, alright, you two. Don't get so carried away." He said chuckling.
"Sorry." Finn and I said in union.
Breakfast carried on as usual, father left shortly after to get the preparations for tonight finished. Finn and Emily went for a horse ride in the meadows and Marshall and I walked through the gardens.
"That stunt this morning was not right, Marshall. You shouldn't do stuff like that before the wedding. If anyone had found out, my father would have your head on a pike." I exclaimed.
"Oh don't be so over dramatic, Fionna. No one saw me come in or out and you might as well get used to those kinds of stunts. I'll be doing a lot of it, especially after our wedding when I get to officially make you mine." He said handing me a lily that was picked.
"Your not supposed to pick those." I said giggling.
I sighed, "I suppose your right."
"Finally you see things my way." He said smirking, pulling me close to him.
"Besides, you my love, are radiant. Your such a beautiful woman and I am so honored and happy you will become my wife."
He pulled me in for a kiss that I happily returned. I don't think I have ever been this happy before. My heart always seems to skip a beat when he sweeps me up for a kiss. Next thing I know we are hovering above the ground, i gasp and hold on to Marshall tighter.
"You could have warned me!" I yelled.
He chuckled, "Where would the fun be in that. C'mon I want to show you something, birthday girl."
With that we took off, once I got past the oh my gosh I'm flying part, I started to have fun with the way the wind whips my hair around and how free I feel when I'm with him. I sigh, close my eyes and relax into Marshall as he carries me. A while after we landed at a farm outside the town, I smiled ear to ear but was a bit confused.
"Um what are we doing here?"
"Your present is here."
I looked around and didn't see much but a little farm house, barn, and animals in the fenced in areas.
"Your giving me a farm?" I asked confused.
He chuckled, "No, come with me."
We walked up the dirt road to the wrap around porch of the farm house, an old woman in a porch swing knitting something and an old man rocking in a rocking chair smoking a pipe.
"Oh your highness. Eugene, knock off that smokin' and pull yourself together. The Princess is here with her fiance the King." the old woman scolds her husband, to which I giggle at.
"Dang nabbit, I know who it is woman! I ain't blind." He hollers back at her as they both slowly rise up to bow to us, showing their respect.
I hold a hand up, "That is not necessary but thank you." I say politely.
"Hello Edgar, nice to see you again. I talked to you a few weeks ago about that special gift for the Princess. We're here to pick it up." Marshall said, addressing the old man.
Edgar nodded and grunted at Marshall as he got around to straighten himself up.
"Right. My name is Edgar and that one back there is Margaret, you can call her Maggie. You can wait here with her as your man and I go out to get that special gift for ya." the old man said with a smile.
"Thank you Edgar."
He grunted and said, "Yup."
"Well come on in dearie, I'll whip up some tea." Maggie said happily making her way into the house.
I follow her in and sit at the table, straightening my dress out. "My isn't that a pretty dress." Maggie said smiling.
"Oh, thank you. I've had this thing forever." I said with a light laugh.
In a short time the tea kettle started screeching, Maggie grabbed two mugs and poured in the tea and waddled her way over to the table next to me. I took the tea from her and held it under my nose, I can smell the ginseng tea and honey, delicious.
"Forgive me but you look so much like your mother. May she forever rest in peace."
I smiled and put my hair behind my ear, "Thank you, I get that a lot. And thank you for your condolences."
She smiled, "So how is your birthday, your highness?"
"Interesting so far, will you be attending the ball tonight?" I asked.
She laughed a bit and waved a dismissive hand, "Oh no. Edgar and I are too old to try to do all that dancing."
I smiled with her. Just then Edgar walked in with a wooden crate and set it on the table, looks like a cage for a animal. I turn around and see Marshall hold something white and fluffy in his arms. A smile starts to come to my face as I get out of my seat to see the creature he has, my heart jumping to my throat.
"Oh my gosh! How precious!" I said in awe.
I took the baby rabbit from Marshall and pet its sleek fur. It's so adorable.
"I'm glad you like it. I remembered the story you told me about your mom. Thought this would be the perfect gift."
"Oh it is perfect, it really is. Thank you so much Marshall Lee." I said, eyes brimming with tears.
"And thank you too Edgar, this bunny is so perfect. Is it a boy or girl?" I asked.
"That there is a girl and your welcome, your highness. Happy birthday."
"Thank you all so much." I said, happier than I ever been.
Marshall and I sat at the table, I held the bunny in my lap as we visited the old couple for a while before we left. I told them the story about when mom and I were in the field and all the rabbits came out to play, how I got my nickname. That brought them to tears. They told me how fond of my mom they were and how great of a Queen she was, loved by all her people and how she'd be proud of the woman I am becoming. The sun was setting and we had to go, Marshall grabbed the crate, put my bunny in it and we flew off towards the palace so everyone can get ready for my birthday ball. Today was so amazing and acts like this make me grow to love Marshall all the more, I know in my heart that we were meant to be and I will live my life happy and at peace with him. I love him. I just hope tonight will end just as perfect as the day was.
