Nine
Avery
The female awoke with a major migraine. She couldn't exactly place where she was at the moment, her head feeling like it was getting hit with a hammer repeatedly. She knew that whatever she was laying on, it was soft and comforting. It also smelled of sweet perfume, and it was consoling to her aching heart and mind.
"Avery you up?" Ivy's voice was melodic. She sounded as if she just awakened as well.
Avery sat up off of Ivy's chest, "Yes. My head is pounding." the female then turned red, realizing the softness that she was laying on was Ivy's bosoms.
Ivy stood up suddenly, "Where do you keep your aspirin?"
"In my bathroom cabinet, behind the mirror." Avery held her head for dear life. It was hurting horribly.
Ivy came back within a couple minutes with two aspirin and water. Avery took it with a brief, but meaningful "thank you". Ivy sat down next to Avery again, but looked at her with slightly amused eyes.
"What?" Avery asked taking the medication.
"You were the life of the party, remember anything?" Ivy seemed to exaggerate the last part and Avery furrowed her brows.
"Hm, not really to be honest..." placing a finger on her lip. Ivy nodded, there was a glint of sadness In her eyes. Avery just shrugged it off for the moment. Wait. There's a meeting today! Fuck. She's going to be late! "Ivy! What time is it?"
"Forty-three after ten." the other female looked at her phone.
"I'm going to be late!" Avery jumped to her feet, not minding her migraine. She ran to the bathroom quickly, mumbling incoherent words to herself about how stupid of her it was to go out partying on a work night. Avery began to brush her teeth. Once finished she darted to her room to put her work uniform on. Avery ran up to Ivy, pulling a card out of her back pocket, "I'm such a terrible host. Oh my gosh. Here's my breakfast and lunch card for the café. Just go there, and if they question you just say you're my friend. Go eat. The food is actually really good." Avery managed to say all this within a few seconds, disappearing back into her room, then peaking out, "I recommend the eggs, bacon and pancakes. Really good!" Avery said playfully, giving a wink. Then hustling about.
Ivy had an expression of entertainment plastered onto her girly features. She thought it adorable Avery's hustle to get ready in a way. "Thank you." Ivy said delighted at Avery's action.
"Dammit, its ten fifty! I have to go. I'll see you later I promise!" Avery waved, and giving her charming boyish wink as she left out the door making a mad dash for the conference room. She left Ivy with a beaming smile on her face, and a warm feeling of something that Ivy couldn't place exactly. But it was a feeling that she actually wanted to feel more.
Avery made it to the conference room, with five minutes to spare. Good. She wasn't out of breath because of her being physically fit, but her hair was a mess still, having a boyish bed-head that got messed up even more when she was running.
Avery went to take her seat smiling at her co-workers, and Leon and Sonya was there as well.
"Ah~ morning sunshine." Sonya was referring to Avery, winking.
"Morning Ms. Reese."
Sonya pouted playfully, "Ewe, that makes me sound old. Just call me Sonya." Avery nodded, "Well seems like you had a major hangover. You look like shit kid." Avery looked at Sonya wide-eyed. Leon nudged Sonya shaking his head disapprovingly, and Sonya shrugged, handing Avery a water bottle. "Here."
Avery smiled, "Thank you." Sonya nodded, as Leon grinned to Avery.
"She's always a handful, but you'll get used to it." Leon joked. He gave an endearing smile to the young female officer, soon after Chris Redfield had made an appearance. All of the small talk died down between the co-workers.
"Morning to all." he stood, and walked to the touch screen computers. Clicking on recent files of the happenings of Nevada, New York and the information leak of the BSSA. Everyone awaited silently, "Well, we have three issues currently at hand. We'll start with the outbreak in Nevada," he paused turning to the screen and clicking on a satellite image of Area Fifty-One. It looked horrifying. There was debris on the building, and there was infected walking around the building aimlessly. "Workers that managed to survive from the Area Fifty-One breaching, called us for help. It's basically a rescue mission. As well as, figuring out how and why this breaching happened." Chris minimized that and opened the New York satellite image, it was just as terrifying, "Street camera images showed that a person visibly set off the virus so it can spread." the security video played as he talked, "Though this person..." Chris had gotten distracted, by the silhouette of this mystery person. It looked all to familiar to him.
"Captain?" Avery called out concerned.
Chris was staring hard at the screen, "Hm?"
"You was saying?"
"Yes. Um, it's another investigation and rescue mission. The CDC in Georgia has sent a special team and quarantined the area of Times Square." Chris minimized the screen, and pulled up the website that has the leaked information, "Finally, the leak of information in the BSSA." Chris had a stern look on his face, he wasn't angry. Nothing much surprised him these days, "All employees of the BSSA is asked to stay off of all social media sites until further notice. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and whatever else. We must get to the bottom of this." Chris paused, running tired fingers through his hair, "I will be devising teams." The man paused again, his voice unwavering as he looked at his colleagues.
"Kennedy, Reese, and Smith. You will be heading to Nevada for the Rescue mission, and investigation." Avery nodded, attentively. A pause. "You three have twenty minutes to get ready and head out to the chopper. We're out at 11:25 on the dot."
Avery made a quick hustle back to her room. She found Ivy on her living room sofa eating silently.
"Avery the food is great here!" Ivy took a mouthful of pancakes after she said that. The female smiled looking at the other enjoying the fluffy goodness.
Avery sat next to Ivy, "Told you they were amazing." the female ran fingers through her messy hair and groaned, "I have a mission to go on Ivy."
The female looked surprised, "Is everything okay?"
"It will be. But, I'm not sure how long it will be before I come back." Avery sounded neutral. "You can stay here as long as you'd like to, my coworkers really won't question you."
Ivy nodded looking down, "You better come back in one piece." she said a mixture of sternness and concern in her melodic voice.
"I will. I promise."
"I'm holding you to this. The last time I heard that.." she trailed off. Avery looked at Ivy, grabbing her face gently.
"I will."
