Sonya

The directions given by the dispatcher led her to a home within her own neighborhood. By the time she reached the block of her residence, a lot of people where packing up and leaving. From Sonya's car she sighed, hesitant to get out. But she needed to. Had to. It was her duty to protect, preserve. She knew in the back her mind the city's efforts to keep everyone safe was futile. She eventually made her way out, walking to the building. From the street it looks like nothing. The door is closed, which means nothing. Right? A variation of low gurgles were heard from the other side of the door without even opening it. Sonya pulled her handgun out of the holster, preparing herself for the worse. Kicking the door open, flickering lights left on illuminate the pathway just enough to see by. Water drips somewhere, creating a hollow pinking noise that is impossible to ignore. But the gurgling... that was the main focus. It seemed to get louder until it turned the corner and met her at the from door. The smell of rotted flesh in the air, fresh blood dripping from the once human's mouth.

"Freeze!" Sonya yelled.

It continued after her.

"I said freeze dammit!"

The young cop found herself unable to shoot. It has no fear. Which made her fear it even more. She was paralyzed, fear spreading through her body like an icy, liquid metal. She clenched her gun as hesitation took each step closer to the damn thing. Sonya's feet trembled and legs twitched, fighting the impulse to whirl around and sprint back to her squad car and book it home, following suit of the rest of her neighbors. The damn thing would not stop, almost an arm length away the female pulled that damn trigger, right through the skull. It was over. She was panting, terrified of wha she just done. Was it human? She just killed her first person... it hit her like a ton of bricks. Radioing for backup, the station was all static. Her dispatcher gone. She was all alone... walking outside back to her squad car a bunch of screams can be heard, and then it began. The end of everything. Sonya locked her car doors a person banging on the door, begging to be let it was far too late he's already got bitten on the neck. Sonya shook her head, yelling "sorry" as she made her way home.

"Mom, Dad, James! You better be alive!"

Sonya woke up with a migraine. She was it's prisoner, quite helpless in her cage of pain. She was blinded with flashing colorful spots and craved darkness, quite and stillness. She felt as if she was going to vomit but held it down. It was when she stayed still was when she realized she was tied to Leon and that man they had saved. It was at that moment Leon had woken up.

"Hey. Hey. Wake up." whispered Leon to Sonya.

"Huh...I'm up." she said slowly, her head still pounding.

"Hey, where the hell are we?" Sonya was looking around as she said it taking in the grime filled shack they were in.

"Don't know. Get that guy up."

"Wake up." Whispered Sonya to him and nudging him with her shoulder.

He woke up.

"Ai, yi, yi. Crawl out of one hole, and into another." blowing out some air stating this.

"You wanna tell me what's going on here?" stern with his tone.

"Yeah what is really going on here?" the female of the trio agreed.

"Americanos, si? Now what brings two blokes like yourselves around this part of the world?"

Leon tried to free himself from the ropes.

"Ouch, chill out!" Irritation.

"Easy whoever you are."

"My name's, Leon and my partner here is Sonya. We came here looking for this girl, have you seen her?" Leon managed to get a picture of the president's daughter out of his pocket.

"What are you two supposed to be a cops or something, nah you don't look the type." he said knowingly.

"Maybe." Leon smiled as he said it.

"Let me guess. She's the president's missing daughter."

Leon turned slightly to catch a glimpse of his face, "Okay that's too good of a guess, want to start explaining?"

"Psychic powers. Nah just kidding with you amigo," joked the random guy, "I heard one of the villagers talking about it."

"And who you might be?" asked Leon.

"Luis Serra. I used to be a cop in Madrid. Now I'm a good-for-nothing guy, who happens to be quite the ladies' man."

Sonya scoffed.

"Why'd you quit?" Leon said as he was looking at the ceiling.

"Policia...you put your life on the line, no one really appreciates you enough for it. Being a hero isn't what it's cracked up to be anymore."

"Used to be a cop myself. Only for a day though."

"Me too." Sonya agreed with Leon. He gave her a sideways glance and decided to question her about it later.

"Wow, I thought I was bad."

"Hey, I think you're gonna have to go on without me," he paused for a quick second, "there are too many of them, I'll hold them off and you and Sam make a run for it."

The area was putrid. Chaos ruled the the streets. People getting eating by the undead. There was an incoming horde following behind the duo and their dog, Sam.

"NO JAMES! I refuse to leave my only brother; heck you're my only family left, besides Sam." Sonya was crying as she said this to her brother. They continued to run nonetheless.

There was too many zombies. Sonya had just shot one with her handgun, foolishly not watching her back. Her brother James was shooting them also. One zombie went to lunge for Sonya and bite pushed Sonya out the way, shooting the undead. When doing so, the bullet went through the skull of the undead and to an unsuspecting car...it exploded separating the both of them...

"Sonya!"

"Sonya!" Leon finally got his partner's attention.

"What?"

An armed Ganado walked in the room with a huge axe. It's head was bleeding, looking like it was partially beat before approaching them. He was coming at them quickly.

"What do you suggest we do Ace?" Sonya was frantic.

"On my count of three pull back on the ropes."

"One..."

"Two..."

"Three..."

The trio pulled back on the ropes. Using the axe to their advantage, they got freed. The Ganado was still coming. Leon then lifted his leg up and then flipped the villager. The Ganado hit the wall and then its neck cracked. Luis Serra ran away soon after.

Leon and Sonya stood up.

"Wuss." Sonya mumbled. "Hey that was pretty impressive," she paused for a quick moment, "but don't expect anymore compliments from me." she crossed her arms, patting the dirt off of her pants.

"Whatever." And Leon thought he saw a small grin on his partner's face.
