C: Captivating
She was indeed captivating, it didn't take a rocket scientist to see that. Whether she was strolling through the house, going over the charts for a new voyage, or reading a book by the fire, Delbert always found himself captivated at the sight of her.
Most of the time, she didn't realize he was watching her, so engrossed in what she was doing that she blocked out all other distractions. It was so different from how she was on the Legacy. On her ship, her attention was on all things at once, because it had to be. But at home, she knew she was safe and had the luxury of letting her mind wander aimlessly. Even when they were in the same room, she seemed to forget he was there once she got focused on something. He found it amusing how suddenly she could go into a zone, her nose scrunched and her eyes glued to the task before her. He would never tell her how adorable she was when she did that.
"Quite busy watching me today, aren't you?" Amelia asked, peering over her book to raise an eyebrow at him from the couch she was on.
Delbert fumbled for a moment, his cheeks tinting red. He hadn't even realized he'd been staring at her for so long. He shrugged in response, turning his attention back to his own book. He'd only read a fraction of what he wanted to read so far, so he knew he must've been staring at her with that goofy grin of his for quite a while. He glued his eyes to the page he was on, trying to ignore her as she stood and made her way to him.
She went behind the chair he sat in and rested her chin on the top of his head, humming softly.
"Delbert, love, you were reading this page the last time I came over here."
He chuckled uncomfortably, awkwardly closing the book as she sat on the arm of the chair, her arm around his neck.
"I...I got distracted."
Amelia smirked, glancing lazily at his lips once before meeting his gaze again.
"By what...exactly?"
He swallowed thickly, his mind a thick fog. This woman truly was too much for him.
"W-Well...You k-know. Things. P-People."
Amelia tilted her head slightly, an eyebrow raised.
"People…?" it came out in a whisper, her breath washing over his face. "Or just one person...?"
Delbert's fingers twitched, his mouth hanging open slightly. He couldn't look away even if he wanted. She'd drawn him in with those deep emerald eyes of hers. His mouth felt dry, and he unconsciously licked his lips as he tried to form words.
"U-Uh…"
"Well…?"
It took everything in Amelia's power not to laugh. She absolutely loved doing this to him... The dumbfounded, absolutely-lost-for-words look on his face… It was too much. She knew the effect she had on him, and it was always fun manipulating him this way, even if her intentions were nothing but innocent.
Delbert felt a frustrated growl in his throat, but couldn't have done a thing to stop it. Some foreign emotion took him over, and before he could stop himself, he'd grabbed her waist and pulled her into his lap. He met her gaze and gave her a quick smile, and she couldn't help but laugh and squirm uncontrollably when he nuzzled her neck. He finally pulled away after a few minutes, allowing her to catch her breath and slump against him.
"You never let me have any fun…" she mumbled into his shoulder.
Delbert chuckled, running his fingers through her hair slowly.
"That wasn't fun for you?"
She sat up, rolling her eyes.
"You know what I mean, love," she said, climbing off of his lap. "I simply wanted to tease you a bit. Payback for distracting me."
Delbert stood with her, stretching as he set his book back on the table next to the chair. He raised an eyebrow at her, smiling.
"I was distracting you? How so?"
She smirked over her shoulder, walking back to the couch she'd been on to grab her own book.
"It's a bit difficult to read a book when someone is watching you so intently, Delbert."
Delbert stiffened a bit, then allowed himself to relax. Of course, she'd noticed this time. He smirked, coming behind her and wrapping his arms around her middle. She jumped a bit, the book hitting the floor with a gentle thud.
"Then perhaps you should stop being so captivating…" he muttered as he buried his nose in her hair.
She laughed, reaching over her shoulder to gently scratch behind his ear.
"I'll consider it, my love."
A/N: I have no idea if this makes any sense XD review and suggest letters for later chapters, please!
