H: Honesty
She had always been very straightforward and honest. Even when she was young she spoke her mind, whether people asked for her opinion or not. After years of being told to "stay in a child's place", she learned to only offer her opinion when asked. Her parents had taught her the importance of honesty, and she had upheld it above all else.
Joining the Royal Navy made her realize that sometimes it was okay to be dishonest. Time after time, she'd had to lie to injured crewmates and soldiers, telling them they would be alright, and that they would see their families again. More often than not, she knew they were dying, but wanted to offer some kind of support in their last moments. It wasn't easy lying to them, but knowing they died with thoughts of home...
After she'd resigned from the Navy and did her own voyages, she'd hadn't had to lie often. She had a reputation to keep as a brutally honest captain, and wasn't about to let that reputation be tarnished.
Now that she was in a relationship, she'd gotten into the habit of fibbing to Delbert... but only because she wasn't comfortable with admitting weakness. He'd seen her weak enough on Treasure Planet, she didn't need him thinking of her as a fragile vase every single time she got a headache. Delbert knew her well enough to know when she was fibbing, though... such as when she claimed she was 'fine' after returning home one night with a nasty bruise, or when she told him she 'wasn't crying' after he'd proposed, or when she tried to laugh off her obvious exhaustion after four whole hours of vomiting seven months after their wedding...
And when she was being honest... such as when she and their children practically tackled him to the floor whenever he entered the house.
"I love you, Delbert Doppler..."
