M: Missing
Delbert tore apart the bedroom for the third time, his breathing ragged and panicked. He couldn't believe it was missing. He'd been so careful, putting it in its own box on the counter when he went to take a shower. But when he finished getting ready, it was gone, box and all.
He sighed, going through the desk drawer for the fifth time. Still nothing. Tugging his hair in frustration, he moved to the bed and sat, searching his memory for any sign of where his wedding ring might've gone. Amelia was going to be so cross with him if she found out…
Downstairs, Amelia hummed as she cooked their breakfast. She'd been up for hours now, since she was used to waking up early on the Legacy. She had let Delbert sleep, knowing he was more used to sleeping in until noon. She'd simply placed a kiss on his forehead before she got up and got herself ready for the day. Covering the food to let it cook, Amelia turned and headed back up the stairs, surprised that her husband had yet to come down for breakfast.
She sighed and rolled her eyes, hearing what sounded like Delbert talking to himself as she neared the door. standing in the doorframe, she raised an eyebrow at the absolute panic her husband seemed to be in. She watched him for a moment, waiting for him to cease his frantic pacing and notice she was there. It seemed he was too caught up in his own thoughts to even look up and see her. She cleared her throat, and when his eyes met hers, she was surprised at how they widened in fear.
"A-Amelia! U-Um… Good m-morning, love." he chuckled uneasily, slowly closing the drawer he'd just been rifling through.
"Good morning," she walked over to him, her head tilted in mild confusion. "Something the matter?"
He cleared his throat, searching his mind for something to say that would possibly steer this conversation away from his missing ring. She was watching him closely, and he tried his darnedest to put on a mask of composure.
"N-No…"
"Well… I find that hard to believe. It seems you were searching for something." Amelia raised an eyebrow, smirking softly. "Something important, perhaps?"
Delbert simply stared at her, his mouth dropping open slightly. He blinked, his heart beating a bit quicker.
"I'll take that as a yes." she smiled, moving towards him until their faces were only centimeters apart. She knew exactly what he was looking for… But she wanted to see if she could get him to admit that he'd lost it. Seeing the dumbfounded, blank look he was giving her, she decided she would have to settle for simply turning his brain into mush.
Delbert's mind went completely blank. He forgot who he was, where he was, and what he'd been looking for. All he could focus on was the deep emerald of her eyes, and the heat radiating off of her. He was already stressed enough, why did she have to add more cloudiness to his already frazzled mind?
"I...a-ah…" he struggled to speak, trying to rescue himself, and failing horribly.
"Delbert…?" she whispered, brushing her lips over his as she intertwined their fingers. "You honestly should keep… better track of this."
He took a shaky breath, realizing his wife had pressed something into his palm. Looking down, he saw the missing wedding ring in the dead center of his hand. He visibly relaxed, letting out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. When he looked up to thank her, he realized she had slipped away. He smiled, reminding himself to thank her vehemently.
Sighing, he slipped the ring back onto his finger, vowing he would never let it go missing again.
