"It's not that big of a deal, Delbert. I'll be fine on my own. Go to your conference."

"What if you forget to take your medication? What if you're in too much pain to call for help?"

Amelia rolled her eyes, crossing her arms as she watched Delbert pace in front of the fireplace from her position on the couch. He clutched an envelope in his hand as he paced. He'd just been invited to a week-long astrophysics conference, one that only the most prestigious of scientists were asked to attend. He was excited, of course, until he finished reading the paperwork and realized his predicament. Amelia had only been out of the hospital for a week or so, and since she'd accepted his invitation to stay with him, he'd been at her side reverently taking care of her until she was fit for duty again.

If he left for a week, who would care for her?

"I am not an infant, Delbert. Trust me, I've endured much more pain than this side of mine could possibly cause. Also, I know how to take my medication on time. You taught me" she said, giving him a smile.

"But…" he stopped his pacing, chewing his lip. "You're stubborn. What if you decide you don't want to take it? Dr. Hansen said you must take it until there's no more left. What if you miss one?"

"I'll adjust my schedule." she said simply, casually flicking a piece of lint from her knee as she ignored his 'stubborn' comment. She knew he meant well.

Delbert scoffed, running a hand through his hair.

"But that would throw off your whole schedule, and you would always have one pill left. What if missing one has some adverse effect on you? You could end up right back in the hospital, and with me gone…"

Amelia sighed. He wasn't going to give up easily. Standing, she walked over and gently taking his hands in her own. He met her gaze, his eyes filled with worry.

"What if you aren't safe here…?" he sighed, gently squeezing her hands.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Delbert... I would hate for you to miss it because you're worried. I will be just fine here, I have Ms. Hawkins. If something should go wrong, I will call her and make sure she contacts you as soon as she can. Besides, you said it yourself, not much happens on Montressor. I will be perfectly safe, I promise."

He averted his eyes, staring down at their hands. She bit her lip as she scanned his face, trying to think of something that could convince him she would be safe. Struggling to hide the smirk on her lips, Amelia gently pulled him towards her, moving his hands to her hips.

"Would it make you feel better if I...slept in your room each night till you returned? And possibly… after...?"

Delbert's face turned about 30 shades of red before he coughed awkwardly and smiled goofily at her, the very idea of her spending any amount of time in his bed giving him a swell of pride he couldn't fight.

"I...I-It...It m-might." he paused, then nodded affirmatively. "Yes, it would. Especially since I had security measures installed there in case of a break-in."

Amelia rolled her eyes, an amused smile on her lips. Of course only he could ruin a tantalizing moment such as that by saying he'd installed robbery alarms in his bedroom.

"Right, of course." she nodded affirmatively, mocking him playfully. "I will be nice and safe with all the security bells and whistles."

"And I will send Sarah over to make sure you're taking your medication every day."

"Delbert…" Amelia sighed, massaging the bridge of her nose. "You do not have to ask her to do that."

He thought a moment, then fixed her with a stern gaze and a raised eyebrow.

"I do if you want me to go to this conference."

Sensing that she wasn't going to get her way this time, Amelia simply smirked and pulled out of his embrace.

"Whatever gets you out of my hair, Doctor." she paused a moment, then turned back to him. "Delbert?"

"Y-Yes?" he asked softly, startled by the traces of worry he saw in her eyes.

She hesitated, then placed her hands on his shoulders and kissed him softly.

"You be safe out there, as well. I know how you are." she smiled. "Make sure your clumsy nature doesn't result in you falling off of a transport."

Delbert chuckled uneasily, gently pulling her into a warm hug that she welcomed.

"I...I will try."

A/N: AAAAAAH I HAVE RETURNED OR SOMETHING IDK HOW LONG ITS BEEN PROBABLY LIKE JUST A FEW DAYS BUT IT FELT LONGER TO ME OKAY MMMMM i hope this one was good, I'm thinking they'll be a bit shorter because I was starting to have a lot of recurring themes and subjects and I bet it was getting a bit boring to read. The rest of the alphabet will be a bit...sporadic? I think that's the word I want. Basically they're gonna be different little snippets and conversations. Mmkay review!
