Flying

"This is a horrible idea," Dean muttered to himself as he and Cas strolled around the backyard. Cas was at his side, skipping merrily and humming something from Imagine Dragons. Dean watched as the little black wings glinted in the small rays of sunshine that were able to squeeze their way through the cloudy sky. The feathers were still dusted in baby feathers, but there were one or two feathers on each wing that Castiel had pointed out this morning to the older Winchester. The feathers were slightly coarser than the fluff decorating the rest of the wings. They were small, but in all rights they were flight feathers. Still, that didn't mean Cas could fly with them. The little angel was too excited with the idea of flight to listen though. He had his flight feathers and he wanted to learn to fly. Why he didn't ask one of his brothers to come Dean didn't truly understand. Well, he kind of did. Balthazar and Gabriel already had their flight feathers and could fly circles around their little brother. There would be no telling what type of teasing would smack Cas in the face first as he took his first few flaps. Dean, on the other hand, listened to Cas and helped the angel even if some of the little guy's ideas were ludicrous. The only problem was that Dean didn't know how to help a baby angel learn to fly. Maybe he could call Alfie and have the angel help out? No, Cas had made it clear. Just him and Dean.

"Here," Cas said, after stumbling to a spot in the yard with rocks and logs he could jump off of. The apartment they currently lived in with the rest of the crew sat half in town and half in the country so there was a small woods connecting to their apartment, leaving them such things to climb on. Cas clambered onto a big rock and flapped his wings a few times before smiling at Dean with those big blue eyes. "Ready!" the angel shouted excitedly and Dean walked over to the rock, ready to catch the angel if all went to hell. Castiel took in a deep breath, raising his arms and stepping off the rock. He landed in Dean's arms the second his wings started flapping. Cas glanced over his shoulder at this wings and the to the rock. "Again," the angel stated and Dean reluctantly set him back onto the rock he had just jumped off of. Dean watched as Cas' eyes glittered with determines. He just hoped the angel wouldn't be crushed later.

"Cas, I'm sorry, Buddy," Dean said gently, rubbing Cas' tired wings as Castiel sat in the dirt while panting heavily. Rain was coming down on them now and Castiel's wings were getting soaked. "We'll try again tomorrow," Dean tried to encourage, hoping that there could be some hope heard in his voice. All Cas has accomplished so far is falling into Dean's arms. Cas let out a sniffle, looking completely defeated.

"I never gonna fly," Cas pouted, wrapping his wings around himself as he shivered in the rain. His wings weren't water proof so now they were sopping wet and clumped together. There was no way Cas was going to be able to fly with those. Dean let out a long sigh before slumping down next to Cas and pulling the baby angel up onto his lap.

"Dude, don't worry about it. You're going to learn to fly. You just need a little push," Dean comforted, rubbing his fingers through the wet mass now enveloping Castiel's shivering form.

"Push?" Cas questioned, frowning up at the hunter in confusion.

"Ya know. Something to motivate you," Dean decided, realizing that maybe he should have been at least trying to help Cas instead of putting on the same disbelief everyone else in the household held towards Cas' longing to fly. A sting of guilt pricked at Dean's heart and his eyes looked away from Castiel's baby blues. Damn it. What kind of friend has he been of late? Not a very good one.

"Dwean?" The Winchester looked up to the angel, now standing on Dean's thighs and leaning on his little hands that were currently pressed to Dean's chest.

"Yous my mot-ee-vation," Cas stated. "Right?" Dean chewed on his lip nodding in agreement.

"Sure, Cas. By the time I've got you flying you'll be able fly circles around your brothers," Dean encouraged. A smile brightened across Castiel's face and he hugged Dean tightly.

"Thank you, Dwean."

Three weeks later…

The entire crew sat outside the apartment as they waited for Cas to show them something. He had come rocketing into everyone's bedroom, shaking them awake and telling them he had a big surprise for them. Dean was standing in front of the group with Cas in his arms.

"Ready?" Cas whispered to the hunter. Dean nodded.

"Yep. You'll do good, Cas. Just keep your focus," Dean told him. Cas nodded and they faced their eager and curious crowd again. Dean smiled at them, tossing Castiel high above his head and stepping away from the falling angel. Everyone cried out in terror, Balthazar and Gabriel shooting up from their spot to fly up and grab their brother before he could hit the ground. "Look," Dean ordered them, pointing up at where he had thrown Cas. Everyone frowned, looking up to see Castiel fluttering in mid –air. His small black wings pumped hard as they pushed to keep the angel in the air.

"Cas, your flying!" Sam shouted, getting up from his seat and walking over to the spot Cas currently was hovering. Balthazar and Gabriel fluttered into the air, bobbing around their little brother with wide smiles.

"When did this happen?" Kevin questioned from his spot next to Charlie and Bobby. Cas smiled down at Dean, flapping his wings until he was hovering over Dean's right shoulder.

"Dwean, taughts me!" the angel exclaimed.

"Not really. He knew how. He just needed a little motivation," Dean said, winking at his beloved angel. Cas smiled at him widely and Bobby sighed in a relieved way, chuckling as he murmured,

"Well, at least now we don't have to worry about you jumping off of the counter."

Yeah, I still think Cas'll jump off the counter, Bobby. He seems to enjoy it for some odd reason. Thank you MonkeyGirl77 & Princess Aziza and everyone else who requested Castiel learning to fly. I'm hoping to have more flying chapters. Oh, remember that chapter I wrote about Cas breaking an arm? Well, I want to write another where one of the angels break a wing. What angel should get hurt? Give me your thoughts!
