Dodging the Blade

Feathers blew into flames, leaving black scorches across the floor as Gabriel's forever empty body fell from Lucifer's arms and onto the cold floor. Blood gently seeped from the wound left by an angel blade and Lucifer said a soft prayer before leaving his brother's body.

"Well, that was close," Gabriel sighed as he walked into the room with a cherry sucker in his mouth. He stared at his body and burnt wings lying on the floor. Too close was more like it. He kneeled down by the fake copy of himself, staring at the deep wound left by his brother.

"Now, that's what I call faking your own death," a voice with a British accent chuckled from behind. Gabriel turned, coming face to face with an angel dressed in a dark suit like any other angel you would find now days. Still, Gabriel recognized his younger brother instantly.

"Hello again, Balthazar," Gabriel stated with a smile. Balthazar bowed his head and then kneeled down by the dead copy of his older brother.

"I've thought of faking my own death for some time now as well," the younger angel sighed. "After Castiel rebelled new doors have been opened for us."

"Yes, but let's just hope Castiel's new friends don't end up being the end of him," Gabe sighed, helping his brother back onto his feet and looking around themselves. "We should go. The Winchesters could show up at any second." With a flutter of wings the two vanished and reappeared in a bar in Paris. Balthazar clicked his fingers together, suit vanishing and replaced with something far less formal.

"That's better," Balthazar sighed, while grabbing a bottle of wine from the counter and popping of the cork. "Tell me, Brother, what do you plan to do now?" Balthazar questioned. Gabriel shrugged, taking the bottle of wine from his brother and filling up a glass for himself.

"Go back to what I do best. Terrorize some dicks, eat a candy shop…the usual," Gabe sighed, sipping at his wine.

"You'll abandon us again?" Balthazar asked. "You will abandon Castiel and myself?"

"I told you that I was alright-"

"Not Castiel. You have yet to tell him," Balthazar stated, glaring at his brother through his long lashes. "You were not there when you left us the first time, Gabe. You don't know how much it truly pained the both of us." Gabe lowered his head, sighing deeply.

"You're one to talk. You just told me you were thinking about faking your death as well. You and Castiel have always been close. Cas would be alone if you left."

"I would tell him sooner or later. He wouldn't be alone anyway. He has those Winchester brothers," Balhtazar grumbled. Gabriel rolled his eyes.

"I worry about him. Those brothers are poison. They only care about each other. When they finish with him then what? They'll just cast him away or even get him killed…" Gabriel trailed off as Balthazar hopped off his chair and walked away towards the far window.

"Then it's nothing different then what we've put him through," Balthazar stated while staring up into the sky through the open window in the bar. Gabriel opened his mouth to protest, but Balthazar shut him up. "It's true, Gabriel, and you know it. You've abandoned him twice now. If the Winchesters turn a blind eye to our brother it is nothing different." Gabriel lowered his head, thinking back to when Castiel and Balthazar were only fledglings in training. He missed those small fledglings more than anything.

"I will tell him one day."

"Gabby!" Castiel shouted, snapping his fingers in front of his big brother's face. The golden winged angel snapped out of his day dream and looked at his baby brother staring up at him with those big blue eyes. "What you thinking about?" Gabriel smiled at his little brother.

"Nothing, Cas, just stuff," he stated. Cas tilted his head to the side, but left it alone. The little angel jumped onto the six year old looking angel's lap and began to tickle his sad looking brother. Gabriel cried out, laughing as his little brother attacked his sides. He let his golden wings wrap around Cas and tickle the baby angel's neck, causing Cas to squeal.

"Help!" Castiel squealed as Gabriel continued to attack his little brother. Two strong hands grabbed them both then and Gabriel looked up to see Dean smiling at them both. "Save me, Dwean!" Cas squealed, wiggling in Dean's hold in attempt to free himself from my wings. Dean smirked.

"What? I was going to help," Dean stated, before attacking the bottom of Castiel's feet with his fingers. Castiel yelped, struggling from Dean's hold, but the Winchester had a tight hold on the baby angel and Gabriel's wings were still wrapped around Cas. Gabriel laughed along with his baby brother and Dean, forgetting about his dream. That's all it was after all. It was just some stupid dream.

There will be more of these little flashes to the past. Let's just say they serve a certain purpose ;) Thank you Princess Aziza for the flashback request.
