Mummy's Day
Sam lay in his bed, staring up at the ceiling. Old memories threatened his mind. It was mother's day once again and he would have to go about his day watching as others celebrated with their mothers. He's had to suffer through the damn holiday since he was small. He never had the chance to fell what it was like to have a mom. Dean had, but that's probably why the older Winchester just acted like Mother's Day was just any other day. Sam had always wondered how Dean really felt to wake up and realize that he had to spend another Mother's Day without Mary. The older Winchester had always been good at hiding his emotions. Even when Sam would get upset when they were kids about the holiday and cry into Dean's shoulder Dean wouldn't cry. He would just hold Sammy until all was calmed down again. They weren't the only ones with mommy issues though. Kevin had always spent the holiday with his mom, but she's away at the moment and the poor guy just has to stick to messages. Then there's Charlie. She had tried so hard to keep her mom around, but in the end she finally let her go. They never knew what happened with Custos' mom and the angels…
"Breakfast!" Dean shouted from the kitchen. Sam let out a long yawn. Time to face the day. The younger Winchester shimmied out of his warm blankets and waltzed into the kitchen, not bothering to get dressed. They were probably just going to watch old movies and visit mom's grave later anyways. Sam was just about to take a seat at the table, when he was almost flattened by three fluffy angels.
"Happy Mummy's day!" the angel's screeched. Sam stared wide eyed down at the angel's hugging his legs before looking up at a smirking Dean. Dean was setting the table with waffles he just finished while everyone else sat by the table smiling at the cute scene in front of them. Even Custos was sitting by Dean's feet, wagging his tail. When Sam gave his brother a questioning look Dean only smiled.
"Humor them," Dean said while nodding at the three angels. "They still want to celebrate even though none of us have a mom to celebrate today with." Sam kneeled down in front of the angels once they finally let go of his legs and ruffled their hair with a smile printed across his face. "Plus, you are the mom in this relationship," Dean teased while patting Custos. Sam glared at his brother.
"Bitch!"
"Jerk!" Sam shouted back with a small smile before lifting all three angels in his arms and setting them down in their boosters.
"Mummy's day is about appreciating your mummy. Even if she isn't around anymore," Castiel stated, while slurping down some orange juice. "So today we going to have tons of funs instead of moping around!" Sam rose a brow and glanced at the other two angels that were bobbing their heads in agreement.
"Well, then we will celebrate with ice cream and a visit to mom's grave," Dean stated, taking a bite of food. Sam nodded, taking his own plate of waffles and sitting down at the table. The angels jumped up and down on their chairs with a flap of their fluffy wings and took big bites out of their own waffles. Sam watched them eat, glancing around himself at Dean as he did so. He had that faraway look. The look just like the one Sam always had on this damn holiday. Sam's eyes skimmed back to the happily eating angels. Even they wouldn't be able to change that face today.
"Push me! Push me!" Balthazar shouted as he sat on the swing, vanilla ice cream in one hand as he held on with the other. Kevin pushed the angel, rolling his eyes. They were at a park outside of Mom's cemetery. They would have went right to the grave, but the angels ran right for the set.
"Come on, Angels!" Dean called over his shoulder as he stepped through the gate. Sam waited for the angels to whine, but they only hopped off the play set and chased after Dean. Sam followed with Bobby and the others at his side until they came to Mary's grave. Everything went silent then and Dean dropped a bouquet of flowers he was carrying on her grave. "Hey, Mom," Dean whispered softly. Sam stepped up next to his brother. Then, it was like they were the only two present at the grave. The Winchester's started talking, acting like she was actually listening. Well, maybe she was. They told her what's been going on and told her they missed her. It was like any other day visiting her grave. There was more they wanted to say, but chick flick moments weren't their thing. It felt like only mere seconds when they finally finished. They stepped back, about to leave until the angels scurried under their legs and up to the grave.
"What are you…"
"Hi, Mrs. Winchester," the angels all said in unison, smiling at the grave sweetly while rocking back and forth on their heels. Dean and Sam shared a look with each other before turning their gaze back to the angels. They little angels started talking to the grave, smiles wide on their faces. The hunters watched as the angels told their story to Mary, acting like they were telling their grandmother about a fun vacation they just got back from. The angels told Mary about their adventures and what her sons had done for them over the years.
"We don'ts have family, but now we do because of them," Castiel explained, glancing over his shoulder at the group watching behind them. Charlie was leaning against Kevin, dabbing at her tearing up eyes while the others continued to stare at the baby angels.
"Don't worry about Dean and Samsquash," Gabriel continued with a smirk.
"We watchings over them," Cas said and Gabriel clicked his fingers together, causing three roses to appear on top of the bouquet Dean set on Mary's grave. Balthazar then whispered a soft prayer and Gabriel clicked his fingers for a second time. The red petals of the roses started to move and suddenly, beautiful red butterflies fluttered off the stems and around the two hunters. The corners of Dean's lips lifted at that and his eyes glistened slightly. The angels turned away from the grave and launched themselves into both Sam and Dean's arms. The hunter's caught them, holding the angels tightly.
"Thanks, guys," Sam whispered, a smile making its way across their face. It wasn't the first time the angels proved him wrong. The angels smiled back and then glided back out of their arms to Charlie, Kevin, and Bobby. The three kneeled down in front of the angels and hugged them tightly before finally releasing them.
"Let's get some more icy creamy!" Balthazar shouted, running towards the gates of the cemetery to the Impala. Gabriel and Cas raced after their brothers, poking each other as they raced to catch up. The humans each shared a wide smile before walking after the angels, debating if they could con the angels into eating supper before dessert. Back at the grave, Mary brushed her fingers on the petals of the flowers her sons had brought her. Red butterflies kissed her ghostly form and she smiled after her children and their family. She had been worried about her boys after losing their family. Looks like they got themselves a new one though. The angels turned their heads back as they ran and Mary waved at them, winking and putting a finger to her lips. The baby angels nodded and waved back before disappearing into the black impala.
"Thank you," she whispered before bursting into several beautiful butterflies and flying back to heaven.
Thanks 4evromantic for the request! For those of you who have left requests, I have written most of them down and started them. I just need to finish them. Enjoy!
