The Day Care
Dean stood in the doorway of the child care unit nose wrinkled. This was all Sam's fault. Yesterday when Sam and Charlie took the angels to the park the angels apparently were awkward towards the other kids. Really? They're freaking thousand year old angels in the bodies of a six, five, and four year old! Of course they were awkward. Still, Mother Hen thought it would be a good idea to send the angels to a play group or something. They need to spend time with kids their own age. Yeah, sorry, but I don't think there are any thousand year old celestial children hiding around. Course I was the one that had to drag the unwilling angels there at eight in the morning while everyone else slept in. Bastards. Dean cast a look around the room. Toys littered the floor and about ten other children ran around the room screaming and throwing their toys at each other. The Winchester flinched. It sort of reminded him of Toy Story 3.
"Why are you sending us to prison?" Balthazar questioned, wrinkling his nose as a kid screamed while a teacher dragged them to the corner of the room. Castiel clutched at Dean's pants, burying his face.
"Did we do something's wrong?" Cas questioned. Dean kneeled down, forcing a reassuring smile on his face.
"It's not a prison guys. It's a day care so you guys can make friends." Gabriel snorted at that, popping a piece of chocolate into his mouth. Dean gave the older angel a look. "Gabe, making friends is a normal and healthy style children your age need to go through in order to grow into strong adults," Dean stated, sticking up his nose and earning a small giggle from Cas and Balthazar.
"Did you just quote what Sammy said last night?" Gabe questioned. Dean shrugged and looked around the room.
"Hey, how bad can it be? You guys get new toys to play with, snacks, nap time –you're living like kings!" The angels glanced around each other, frowning. A little boy was drooling on a block and a little girl was pulling at some kid's pigtails. The angels each grimaced and jumped back into Dean's arms, pleading to be taken home. Dean tried his best to shush them, but the angels were frantic.
"Hi there!" a way too cheery voice called. The four jumped in surprise and watched as they were approached by what looked like a Super nanny vomited on by paints and glue. She bent down so she was level with the baby angels and smiled widely. "My name is Mrs. Kelly. Who may you sweeties be?" Dean cleared his throat and pushed the angels off of him.
"I'm Dean Winchester and this is Castiel, Balthazar, and Gabriel," Dean stated, pointing to each angel and sounding their names out like he was talking to an idiot. Mrs. Kelly smiled at the angels, reaching out and pinching Balthazar's cheek.
"Your sons are so adorable!" she squealed. Gabriel and Castiel began to clutch back onto Dean, fearing the same fate as their brother.
"They're not my…"
"Oh, adoption is a lovely thing, Mr. Winchester. My sister has a little girl she adopted from China and three Norwegians!" The insane super nanny pushed a photograph of three kids sitting around a Christmas tree with a blond woman and a burly man. Dean opened his mouth to comment, but Mrs. Kelly was already pulling the angels away from him and towards the other children. "Well, playtime, boys!"
"Dwean!" Cas screeched, reaching for the hunter. Dean shot up, pulling the angels back to his side. Mrs. Kelly looked between him and the angels in confusion until her eyes suddenly brightened.
"Oh! Is this your first time leaving them at day care?" she questioned. Dean nodded and Mrs. Kelly gave him a reassuring smile. "Mr. Winchester, I understand how you must be feeling, but your boys are safe here." That didn't really help with the reassuring. Safety wasn't really their thing. "If it makes you feel better you can join us for today?" Dean perked up to that, smiling widely at the woman.
"That would great," Dean stated, feeling the angels relax slightly. The woman smiled and led Dean and the angels into the room. At first, the angels stuck to Dean like glue. He tried to shove the angels into playing with the children around them, but they refused. Sighing, Dean sat down in a big comfy chair surrounded by a circular rainbow rug with pillows thrown around it. The angels cuddled onto his lap and Mrs. Kelly walked over, handing Dean a book and smiling sweetly. Dean thanked her and looked over the book. It was one of those Grimm Brothers books. Not the child friendly ones of course. This one was practically emanating creepiness. Dean opened up the book and the angels were instantly peering at the gruesomely creepy pictures. Clearing his throat, Dean began reading Little Red Riding Hood, silently praying that this wouldn't cause a replay of that one case he and Sammy had the last time they ran into the books by the brothers Grimm.
"Watcha reading?" a little girl asked, peaking over the arm of the chair. Dean closed the book a little to hide the creepy pictures and stared at the blond pigtailed girl.
"Red Riding Hood," Dean stated with a charming smile. The little girl gave him a cute smile and pushed herself up next to Balthazar. Balthazar smiled nervously at her and she smiled back before looking at the book. Dean swallowed as he tried to recall the less scary version of Red Riding Hood. When he got most of the story line in his head he started to tell the story. "Little Red Riding Hood skipped down the road on her way to her grandmother's house…" Dean began, not noticing that the other children had stopped playing and were now slowly making their way to sit on the pillows and carpet around him. "…little did she know that the big bad wolf was watching her from the shadows," Dean read, holding up a hand on Cas' head to make wolf ears with his fingers. Castiel pretended to growl, causing the little girl to giggle and cling to Balthazar like he was her knight in shining armor. Well, in this story he would probably be the woodcutter. Dean and the angels gasped, looking up over the book when they heard giggles. All around them sat the children. Mrs. Kelly was sitting with them, a little boy with red hair on her lap. She waved a hand at Dean, urging him to go on. Dean looked back to the book, ignoring the many eyes on him and continued reading. When he finished Mrs. Kelly announced that it was snack time and the blond little girl dragged Balthazar to one of the tables. Gabriel and a few other boys ran off together, laughing and talking excitedly. Dean smirked sadly. Looked like the angels were going to be just fine here without him. Dean went to close the book, but small hands stopped him. The hunter looked down on his lap to see Cas smiling at the pages of the thick book. Feeling Dean's gaze, Cas looked up at him with a smile and then pointed back to the pages. Dean sighed. Well, one angel still needed him.
"Cas, don't you want to play with the other kids and make friends?" he questioned. Cas looked up at Dean, clearly puzzled.
"But, Dean, don't you count as my friend?" the angel questioned. Dean's cheeks reddened slightly as he smiled down at the angel. Readjusting himself in the chair so his feet were hanging over the arm rest and Cas was nuzzled against his chest, Dean started reading again. Screw Sammy. The angels didn't need to spend time with other kids. They had Dean of all people.
