Cute Meets Scary
"Bed time angels! It's the grownups turn at the remote!" Dean shouted, scooping the angels off the couch and taking them into their bedroom. Charlie and Kevin quickly raced for the remote, Charlie getting their first and sticking her tongue out at the prophet.
"But, Dwean, we wants to stay up withs you," Cas whined while Dean helped the angel into his blue footy pajamas. Dean laughed at the angel, scooping Cas up and plopping the tiny angel onto the bed next to Gabriel and Balthazar.
"Sorry, guys, but it's too scary for –"
"We're thousands of years old!" Balthazar shouted.
"A thousand years old and in the bodies of toddlers," Dean corrected, sitting down at the edge of their bed. "Just get some sleep, Guys. We'll watch Bolt or something tomorrow." Defeated the angels snuggled up under their blankets. Dean leaned over them, giving each a peck on the cheek. It was strange how much things have changed. Before, the mere thought of kissing any of the angels was like asking for the hunter to never eat a pie again. Now, everything has changed. Dean and the others would, kiss, nuzzle, cuddle, and play dress up without even a second thought. Guess becoming a dad really changes a person.
Dean ruffled the mass of Gold, Silver, and Black feathers gently before getting up off the bed and exiting the angels' bedroom. Gabriel sat up when Dean disappeared behind the door, stretching both his good and bad wing. The wing was healed, but still needed time to regain some of the strength it had lost while not being used. Slowly, Gabe slid off the edge of the bed, using his good wing like a parachute since he was still forbidden to use his bad wing.
"What you doing, Gabby?" Cas questioned as he and Balthazar flapped onto the ground next to their brother.
"We're going to go watch the movie too."
Dean walked into the room in time to see Charlie skimming through the entire series of Hell Raisers on Netflix. The hunter slumped down into one of the rocking chairs closest to the TV and Kevin entered the room with Sam and a bowl of popcorn.
"You make sure they were asleep?" Sam questioned his brother, taking a seat on the couch next to bobby while Kevin stole the bean bag. Dean nodded. Well, he hadn't made sure they were 100% asleep, but they looked like they weren't going to be crawling out of bed anytime soon.
"Shush! The movies starting!" Charlie announced, finally clicking on one of the movies. Everyone went silent and Charlie quickly shut the lights off before taking a seat on the floor. The screen was instantly filled with blood and guts. Dean flinched suddenly, remembering hell and the thousands of hooks that had been driven into him. His fingers clutched at the arms rest as he tried to pull in a breath or two to calm himself. Pin head came onto the screen then with his band of uglies. Out of the blue, a scream filled the room and it took everyone a second to realize that the scream had not come from the TV. Quickly turning the lights back on and pausing the movie, everyone searched for where the scream had come from. Dean eyes caught a glimpse of a tan coat peeking out from behind the couch and snuck up onto it before peering over the side. The angels screamed in surprise as Dean grabbed them and pulled them from their hiding spot.
"Damn it! What did I tell you?!" Dean shouted as he held the shivering angels. Tears were in their eyes and they looked like they had just had the life scared out of them. Well, they in a way they had. "Sammy, go make some hot chocolate will you?" Dean requested. Sam nodded, exiting the room while Dean carried the angels back into their bedroom. "I told you three it was too scary –"
"It was hell, Dean!" Cas screamed, fat tears running down his face as he hugged the hunter's neck. Dean froze, realizing how much deeper the angels' fears were. Looks like he wasn't the only one that got damn flashbacks of hooks and chains then. Dean wrapped his arms around Cas, shushing the angel gently as Cas sobbed into his shoulder. The hunter looked to the other two angels crying as well and reached out a free hand to hold them close. It was then that Sam decided to enter the room with a tray of hot chocolates.
"You want us to keep the movie paused till they're asleep?" Sam asked in a soft whisper. Dean shook his head, smiling at his brother.
"Nah, don't worry about it, Sammy. I think I'm going to stick with them tonight," the older Winchester explained. Tonight's movie choice didn't sit well with him anyway. Sam nodded before disappearing from the room and Dean pealed the angels from himself. He handed the angels each a mug and watched as they sipped on the warm liquid. He never really thought about what hell meant for the angels. There was no doubt that it was something that all angels feared. Their own brother had been cast down there for choosing not to love human beings. Then there was Cas. The angel had flown down into hell to save Dean. If what the angel saw down their when he was full grown was bad it had to be ten times worse now that he was so small.
Once the boys were finished with their drinks and had set them on the night stand, Dean snuggled onto the mattress of the bed the angels slept on when not in Dean or Sam's room. He held his hands out and the angels crawled into his protective hold. A soft whimper left their lips as they huddled close. Dean just held them tighter, shushing them gently. He could hear the soft screams of tortured victims from the TV in the living room and the angels must have been able to hear it too from how hard they were shaking. Deciding the best way to drowned out the sound was to sing Dean started to hum Imagine Dragon's Bleeding Out. The angels calmed slowly and Dean relaxed his hold on them a little so they had more wiggle room. Dean watched as all three angels' eyes began to grow heavy. "Just sleep, Angels. I've got you," he whispered, pulling the blanket higher over himself and the angels.
"Will you still sing?" Cas asked, blue eyes peering up at him through dark lashes. Dean glanced at the other two only to receive the same pleading look. Sighing, Dean started to hum again until both he and the angels were out for the night.
