Sheriff's Back in Town

"It's good to see you again, Jody," Bobby said as he let the sheriff into the apartment. It was moving day for them at last. After some negotiating with Mrs. Wellington Sam was able to talk her into letting them stay at the little cabin in Wisconsin.

"It's good to see you too, Bobby. You three could have left a note that you and the boys were alright instead of leaving your house empty like someone just raided it. You had me worried."

"Yeah, sorry about that, but trust me. We had good reason to not leave any clues of where we were," Bobby told her, opening the door to the cramped living room where Dean, Sam, and Kevin were currently packing everything up. Charlie must be cleaning out the bedrooms.

"Hey, Boys!" Dean and Sam looked up, eyes lighting up as they realized who was with Bobby.

"Well, if it isn't Sheriff Mills. How's Alex doing?" Dean said with a wide grin.

"Spunky as ever. She's staying at a friend's house if you can believe it," Jody said with a smile. "Who's your friend?" she questioned, eyes going towards Kevin. Kevin cleared his throat and held out a hand.

"Kevin Solo, Prophet of the Lord," Kevin said with a cheeky grin. Dean rolled his eyes at the prophet and Jody only stared at his in surprise before realizing what kind of world they really were living in.

"Nice to meet you, Kevin. Now," Jody turned her gaze to Sam, Dean, and Bobby. "Want to tell me why Bob's house looks like a tornado of claws and teeth attacked?" The Winchester's opened their mouths to explain, but three other little troublemakers did it for them. The lids of three boxes popped open, sending packaging peanuts in every direction and three little angels popped their head out of the peanut filled boxes. Castiel wrinkled his nose and spat out a white puff.

"These not peanuts," Castiel complained, sticking out his tongue and looking up at Dean. The Winchester rolled his eyes with a smile on his face as he reached down and helped the angel out of the box.

"Packaging peanuts, Cas. You're not supposed to eat them," Dean explained to the wee angel. Cas looked to the box again, wrinkling his nose again.

"Why makes peanuts you can't eats?" Dean looked as though he wanted to face palm himself, but the angel in his arms kind of prevented that. Gabriel and Balthazar, stretched out their wings before flapping out of the boxes and landing on the arm of the closest couch. Jody stared at the angels with widened eyes. She had always had some shred of belief in God and wings creatures, but she never thought that she would get the chance to see one in her life. Dean smiled at her as she stared at the angels and he stepped forward, holding Cas out to her to take. She stared at the curiously smiling angel and then to Dean. He nodded and pushed Cas towards her. She held out her hands, gently taking the angel. His wings brushed against her as she held him and she couldn't hold herself back from gently stroking the soft down feathers. Cas let out a cute little pure as she scratched gently where Cas' wings met his back. Jody's smile grew and she glanced at the other two angels playing what looked like patty cake.

"How did you find baby angels?" she questioned. Dean shrugged his shoulders, glancing at Sam and Bobby.

"Actually, they're full grown angels. They only look puny thanks to a witch's spell," Dean explained. Jody's eyes widened at that and she looked back down at the angel in her arms. Cas smiled up at her.

"Wanna play?" he asked.

"Cas, we've got packing to do Jody –"

"No, no, it's alright," Jody reassured Sam before he could say anything more. "I'd love to play with them. At least you all would be able to concentrate on getting everything ready." She watched the others for a moment, waiting for someone to argue, but nobody did. Instead they shuffled back to what they were doing. Dean ruffled Cas' hair, telling the angel to be good before helping his brother pack up the guns.

"I always good," Cas shouted cutely after Dean and the hunter only laughed. Jody sat down on the couch that Gabe and Balthazar were sitting on and plopped Cas next to his brothers.

"What do you three want to do?" she asked. Balthazar and Gabriel stopped their game of patty cake and thought.

"Hide and seek?" Balthazar suggested, grinning widely. Cas draped his wings over his face and Gabriel pulled one back shouting, peak-a-boo and making his brother and Jody laugh.

"How about I count and you three hide first?" Jody suggested. The three angels nodded, quickly flapping their wings and flying out of the room to find a good hiding spot. Jody started counting, getting up from her spot on the couch and helping the others lift a few boxes until she finally counted to one hundred. "Ready or not here I come!" she called out to the angels. She could here a few giggles after a shout and she rushed into the hall, listening carefully for more laughter. "Huh, I wonder where those angels could be?" she hummed to herself. "Are they…here?!" she pushed open a door, but found nothing but an empty closet. Jody faked a pout and started her hunt again. This time she swung open Dean's room. A bag was thrown on the bed and a few clothes were still scattered around. "Got you!" Jody cried, jumping at the bag only to find it empty. A soft giggle could be heard from somewhere in the room then and Jody felt her heart squeeze a little. Memories of playing with her own child and listening to his laugh spinning through her soul. She smiled a little, remembering his surprised smile when she would finally find him. Another giggle swept through the room and Jody's eyes landed on the dresser drawers. Slowly, she crept closer to the dresser, noticing that three of the drawers were cracked open a little. "Found you!" she cried, pulling each drawer open quickly and revealing all three of the angels. The giggled and tried to fly away, but she grabbed them before they could get too far.

"Jody! Angels!" Dean's voice called from the living room.

"Uh, oh. Better go see what he needs, huh?" she hummed, walking towards the doors with the angels. When they walked into the living room it was empty except for a few boxes, but Kevin and Sam were currently lifting them up to carry to the Impala. Dean walked over to Jody and the angels, holding out his hands. All three instantly flew out of her arms and piled onto Dean.

"Time to clean out your room," he said to the three. Smiles fell instantly and were replaced with scowls.

"Do we have to?" the angels whined. Jody couldn't help but laugh at the childish whine that escaped the three. Dean rolled his eyes at them and dropped them back onto the ground by his feet.

"Yes, now go put your stuff in those boxes Bobby put in your room. Kevin or Sam will come and get them later. The angels let out another whine before scurrying quickly into their room as told. Jody patted Dean's shoulder.

"You're a pretty good dad, Winchester," she told him. Dean snorted, plopping down on a box still sitting in the room.

"Yeah, well someone's got to keep an eye one them," Dean sighed, stretching his arms until his back popped. "Thanks for helping out today," he added. Jody smiled, looking through the window of the small apartment.

"You didn't answer my question before. About what happened to Bobby's house?" Jody said, glancing over her shoulder to Dean. The Hunter flinched then and Jody wondered if she really wanted to know.

"Demons attacked looking for the angels. We ran, but in the end we…I couldn't protect them. It's a miracle we didn't lose them," Dean whispered, looking at his feet as he spoke. Jody walked away from the window and kneeled down in front of Dean, forcing him to look at her.

"Parent can't protect their children from everything and I should know," Jody whispered, remembering the sight of her son standing over his own father covered in blood. She swallowed down the growing pain in her heart and took Dean's cheek in her hand. A knew memory came to mind then and she saw Alex sitting at the table a few weeks after taking the cure for vampirism with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. "We can try though," Jody added, letting a smile cross her lips. "And, Dean Winchester, you and your family have tried harder than any and because of that those boys are still kicking." Dean smiled at Jody, the pained look in his eyes easing away a little.

"Thanks, Jody."

Thanks ncsupnatfan for requesting Jody to pay the angels a visit!
