Like a Bee
"Come on, Cas, you've got this!" Dean called into the air as Cas struggled to go higher. Balthazar and Gabriel fluttered by his side, ready to help him if he got too tired. Cas flapped a little higher and then reached out for his brothers' hands, never reaching as high as he was now and fearing he'd fall. Today was flying practice for the angels. They did well on their own, but sometimes they needed a little extra help. So on these days either Alfie or another angel would pop up and help the angels strengthen their flying abilities. However, today the angel teaching them today was late. Dean held out his hands, ready to catch Castiel if the angel fell. His brothers had a good hold on him, but it was better to be safe than sorry.
"Sorry, we're late," Alfie called from behind the Winchester. Dean turned, still keeping his arms outstretched when he greeted the angels that had appeared. Instead of one there were three. Alfie, Michael, and…
"Lucifer?" Dean frowned, mouth falling slightly at the sight of the angel. "Uh…no offence, but what is he doing here?" Dean questioned, risking pulling away a hand to point at the archangel. Michael looked at his brother in the corner of his eye and sighed.
"He refused to go back to the cage the last time you spoke with him and had made it up in his head that he wanted to help with today's lesson. That is why I also am here," Michael explained, not looking too pleased. Lucifer on the other hand was grinning widely as he watched his little brothers hovering in the air.
"However, Dean, your approval would be needed first," Alfie added. Lucifer's eyes fell away from his brothers and looked to Dean, almost pleadingly. Seriously, were all angels bred from puppies or something?! The hunter rubbed the back of his neck. He wasn't really sure on what he should say. Lucifer was dangerous and Dean wouldn't trust the angel with anything, but Luci didn't appear to want to harm his brothers. He had proven that to Dean the last time they met face to face. With a sigh Dean nodded and Lucifer flew up into the air with his brothers. It was weird to see an angel fly without any wings poking from his back. Dean was so used to seeing the wee angels flying around with wings that watching a grown angel floating in the air without them just seemed wrong. Alfie and Michael watched their brothers reunite for a moment before flying up into the air as well to join their brothers.
"Here, Castiel, take my hand," Luci said softly in a brotherly tone that made Dean do a double take. It sounded nothing like the Lucifer Dean was used to. There was no cruelty in his voice. Nor was there any hate. He genuinely sounded like a brother wanting to help his little brother. Cas, without hesitation, held his hands out. Lucifer held on to Cas tightly as the little angel wobbled in the air.
"I'm tired," Cas mumbled, panting a little bit as he forced his wings to continue flapping up and down.
"Ride the wind with your wings instead. Force the wind to hold you up," Lucifer told the angel. Cas' face froze in fear at the idea of stopping his wings from flapping. Right now that was the only thing keeping him from plummeting to his death or Dean's outstretched arms. Cas' flying has gotten way better than before. Before the little angle could barely keep his body up off the ground, but now he flew around whenever he got the chance. Still, Cas wasn't a strong flyer yet. The poor little guy would get too tired or panic when at a certain height and fall. Dean opened his mouth to shout up at the little angel, but Lucifer was way ahead of him. "It's okay, Castiel. I've got you." Cas hesitated for brief moment then, wings pumping heavily up and down until finally stilling. The wind blew up against them, pulling him along like a current. Castiel gasped as the wind pulled at him and his fingers clutched tighter around Lucifer's hands, but Luci pulled his hands away.
"Luci, wha…" Cas trailed off as the wind lifted him up and away from his brothers. Dean's eyes widened and he quickly moved with Cas, arms ready to catch the angel. Cas wobbled a little, trying not to get turned over by the wind as it carried him.
"Castiel, try turning your wings now," Lucifer suggested. Cas turned his left wing and his body tuned, spinning him in a circle. Cas' eyes brightened at the new control he had and he turned his right wing, spinning in a different direction.
"Nice job, Castiel!" Alfie cheered. He flew up in front of Cas, snapping his fingers. Dean's eyes widened as two wings sprout out from Alfie's back. They reminded Dean of a sparrow's wings. Well, a giant sparrow that is. Blacks, whites, and browns were sprinkled across the angel's wings, blending perfectly together. "Can you try this?" Alfie asked, pulling his wings closer and dipping them at the same time. Cas struggled with his wings, forcing them into the same position Alfie had his. "Put your wait forward." Ca nodded, doing what Alfie told him. His body instantly turned with the movement and Cas did a summersault mid-air. Cas gasped, righting himself after a few spins and grinning widely.
"Awesome, Cas!" Dean shouted up encouragingly at the angel. Cas smiled down at the hunter and then did another summersault, giggling happily. Gabe and Balthazar flew up closer to their little brother, joining him in his spinning. Alfie un-manifested his wings again and flew back to Michael and Lucifer's side, watching their three little brothers. Cas went to do another spin, but the wind suddenly picked up and bent his wing in a different direction, sending his body downwards. Castiel cried out, reaching out for Balthy and Gabe's outstretched hands. Dean held out his arms, heart beating frantically as he watched the angel fall and he prayed that he'd be fast enough. He didn't have to worry though. Lucifer swooped out under Cas, Catching Cas and pulling the baby angel close as gently landed on his feet safely on the ground.
"See? Told you I got you," Luci reassured, stroking his brother's feathers softly as he held Cas close. Castiel looked up at his brother from where his face was buried in Lucifer's shirt and smiled, still panting heavily. Cas smiled a little, but he was still scared to death. "Come on, Castiel, let's keep going –" He stopped instantly as Castiel shook his head, fear evident in those big blue eyes of his. Lucifer smiled at his brother softly and pulled Cas away a little so he could look in the little angels eyes. "Hey, I almost forgot!" Lucifer suddenly said with a wide smile, clicking his fingers. Something yellow and black appeared in Castiel's arms. Dean squinted at the object, smirking when he realized it was a bumblebee Pillow Pet. Cas let out a tiny squeal, snuggling his face against the soft pillow and grinning widely. Lucifer pulled Cas close to his face then, nuzzling his face close to Cas' and kissing his little brother's cheek. "Did you know bumblebees aren't supposed to fly?" Cas nodded. The angel had watched hundreds of documentary's about the little creatures. "Now, if a little bee can fly when it shouldn't even be possible I believe you should be able to fly as high as the stars, don't you?" Cas blushed slightly and glanced down at the fluffy bee in his arms.
"Fly like a bee?" Lucifer nodded and Cas slowly pulled out of Lucifer's arms, flapping his wings until he was as high as his four other brothers. Lucifer grinned as Cas tried the tricks again and handed Dean the little pillow.
"Just like a bee," Luci hummed.
