Frightened Hearts
Dean stretched his arms as he and the rest of his odd family walked out of the cinema and started their way down the street. It was horror night at the cinema and all the good ones were playing, but the angels wanted to come so the group had gone to How to Train Your Dragon 2 instead (and no, Dean didn't cry). It was late now after the movie and everyone was starving. Luckily there was a little café around the corner.
"Dean, take your angel will you? He's heavy," Kevin complained as he struggled with a container of popcorn, a soda, and a sleeping trench coated angel. Dean smirked, watching the prophet struggle for a moment before taking the baby angel from him. Gently, he turned the angel over in his arms so Cas's face was nestled against his neck. The angel hummed softly and cuddled closer to Dean for warmth as he popped his thumb into his mouth. Gabriel poked his wings out from under his puffy coat and flew up to Dean's level, handing him Cas' blue baby blanket. Dean took the blanket from the angel, murmuring a soft thank you before draping Cas in the blue fabric. Honestly, Dean didn't know why they took the angel to the cinema. He always fell asleep no matter what movie it was. Well, except Frozen. Cas always stayed awake for that one.
"Wings back in the coat, Gabe," Sam whispered softly when he notice the angel still had them out. Gabe looked like he was about to argue, but Mummy Sam's death glare stopped him in his tracks. Reluctantly the angel hid both his good and busted wing under his clothes. Gabe's broken wing wasn't too bad now. He could fly short distances with it, but it still hurt like hell for the angel. Dean didn't blame the angel for wanting to spread his wings from the stuffy coat. Once the wings were hidden Gabe and Balthazar started a game of Eye Spy to pass the time. One there they'd eat their fill and then it would be leather seats and ACDC all the way home.
On entering the café a bouncy waitress rushed over, leading them to their booth and quickly taking their orders before disappearing into the back. Dean repositioned Castiel in his arms so he was basically cradling the baby angel. Sam rose a brow at him.
"You should wake him up, Dean." Dean shook his head. It was going to take a while for their food to be served anyway. Might as well let the angel sleep. Sam sighed, turning his gaze from his brother and back to the others as they discussed the movie in soft voices. There was a clatter from the kitchen, but everyone ignored it. Guessing that somebody only dropped something. Castiel stirred in Dean's arms at the sound the Winchester smiled as he lifted then angel up so Cas was against his shoulder.
"Have a nice nap?" he asked. Cas nodded, looking around himself tiredly. His nose crinkled then and he covered it with a hand.
"What's that smell?" Dean frowned, smelling the air and cringing. He knew that stink too well. The others watched Dean cautiously, smelling along with the hunter.
"Please be a rotten eggs," Charlie whispered under her breath, heart pounding. Dean squeezed Castiel tighter and nodded towards the doorway. Everyone silently got up from their seats at the booth and slunk toward the door, but was stopped by an even louder clatter that froze them in their steps. With slit eyes, Dean glared over his shoulder to see two figures step out from the shadows appear behind the window of the door leading to the kitchen. The lights flickered them, dimming the café until it was only lit by the dim street lights from outside. Cas gripped Dean's shirt tightly, shivering in the hunter's hold. The creatures shadowed by the window chuckled, slowly opening the door and grinning at the company with black eyes.
"What's the matter, Baby? We'll take care of you," hissed one of them.
"Like hell!" Dean shouted back, tossing his gun to Charlie as Sam and Bobby whipped out their own and started firing. Charlie joined them while Kevin scooped up Gabe and Balthazar. "Lets go!" Dean shouted at Kevin, dashing out the door. Kevin quickly caught up to Dean, the two of them huffing and puffing as they ran.
"Going somewhere?" a voice hissed out of nowhere. A yelp left Kevin's mouth as a demon swung out and kicked him in the gut, sending him against a light post. Dean skidded to a stop, eyes going wide as he watched Kevin's body crumble to the ground. Gabriel and Balthazar shook the young prophet, trying to rouse him from his stupor. Dean started to race towards the angels and the prophet, but was stopped as he too received a hard kick to the gut. Cas let out a scream as he and Dean flew towards the ground. The Winchester quickly wrapped his arms around Cas' small body, protecting him from the impact. Dean grimaced as his skin scraped against the concrete, but he held himself together.
"NO!" Gabe screamed from where he and Balthazar were with Kevin. Dean looked up to see the demon that had attacked them was now reaching to grab the two away from Kevin. Without a second thought Dean launched himself at the demon, tossing Cas towards his brothers and smacking the demon to the ground. The black eyed monster hissed as Dean held her down with all his strength. Glancing over his shoulder Dean saw the angels trying to rouse the passed out prophet. He had to buy them some more time.
Bang!
Dean looked up at the sound of a gunshot, completely distracted from the demon he was trying to hold down. For a moment all he could think of were the others and their safety. Those thoughts were broken however when the demon kicked him off and lunged at the angels. All three screamed as she grabbed at them. Gabriel beat his wings against her offending hands, trying to keep her away. Dean got back to his feet to help the three, but the demon that Sam and the others had been fighting popped up and held him back. The hunter screamed with rage, kicking and bucking against her, but the demon refused to release him. The other demon finally, got her hold on Gabe's threatening wings and yanked him into the air, holding him away from her as she grinned cruelly.
"I'm not a piñata! Let me go!" Gabe shouted, kicking and thrashing. The demon laughed, only stopping when Cas and Balthazar grabbed her by the ankles and started biting and scratching at her meat suit's skin. Her eyes darkened before grabbing them with her free arm and holding them to her body by their throats. They choked under her hold, struggling to get a breath.
"What do you all think you are doing?" a familiar voice questioned from behind. The demons' hold on Dean, Balthazar, Castiel, and Gabriel loosened instantly and the angels ran into Dean's arms.
"Shhhh…shhh…I got you," he whispered to each as they ran one by one into his arms. Castiel was right behind the others and raced towards Dean, reaching his arms out to the hunter, but a female demon quickly grabbed him by the coat and pulled him away from Dean's grasp. Castiel and Dean both cried out in terror and lighting boomed around them. Dean let his eyes finally reach their savior only to see that one had now turned into four. Lucifer, Michael, Alfie, and Crowley stood next to a very beat up Sam, Bobby, and Charlie. The three humans quickly stepped away from the four supernatural beings and rushed to Kevin's side. Sam and Bobby slung him over their shoulders and joined Dean and the angels. The four supernatural beings watched them briefly before turning their dark with hate eyes towards the demons covered in the baby feathers that had pierced their skin when Gabe attacked.
"The demon asked you a question," Lucifer hissed, teeth barred. The demons swallowed nervously and one lifted Castiel's form by the wrist. All three angels' eyes flared and Crowley took a step forward.
"You disobeyed orders once again even after I sent you back to the tortures of hell," Crowley hissed.
"Sir, we…"
"Give the angel back to the hunter," Lucifer hissed suddenly. All eyes went to the baby angel hanging in the demon's hold. He was struggling, slamming his petite wings against her in attempt to knock her hold off of him. Samandriel repeated Lucifer's order again when the demons made no move to obey. The demon only sneered, grabbing Cas' throat and squeezed hard. Castiel yelped, beating his wings at the demon harder and a knife was pressed to the base of his left wing.
"I'd rather die," the demon spat, lifting the blade to stab it into the joint of Cas' wing. Dean let out a loud growl before throwing himself up off the ground and covering Cas' with his body. The knife should have penetrated the muscle and major arteries of Dean's upper arm as he crumbled to the ground with Cas wound tightly in his arms, but he didn't feel a thing. He looked up eyes widening when he saw Lucifer snap the demon's hand. The knife clattered to the ground and the archangel's eyes started to dangerously glow.
"Close your eyes!" Michael shouted. Light instantly burst from the grown angels. Castiel hugged Dean tightly, lifting his little arms and covering the hunter's eyes. The light only lasted seconds and eventually everyone opened their eyes. The demons (except for Crowley) were now only dust on the sidewalk. Dean ran a hand through Castiel's hair, calming the shivering angel in his hold.
"Thank you," Sam told the three angels (trying his best to ignore Crowley) before quickly rushing to his brother and Cas. "You alright, Dean? Cas?" Dean glanced at the angel leaning against his chest. Cas was still shivering, but there was a small smile on his face that gave Dean at least a little reassurance. Lucifer kneeled down next to Dean and Cas, gently reaching out and brushing away the hair that had fallen into Castiel's eyes. Light slowly drained from Luci's fingers and crawled over Castiel's skin until it absorbed into the little angel. Dean cried out when Cas fell limp in his arms and the hunter pulled away from Lucifer.
"What did you do?!" he yelled, trying to shake Cas awake. Lucifer sat back on his heels.
"Just put him to sleep. He'll think it was all a nightmare in the morning," Lucifer explained before getting up and going to Gabriel and Balthy, looking them over for any wounds. He gently brushed through their feathers, pushing the stray feathers back into place. Dean watched him the entire time. He looked back to Cas' sleeping form, watching as the angel smiled pleasantly in his sleep. Lucifer had just saved Cas from a night of worrying and fear. Who knows what horrible memories this little attack could have brought back to the surface. Well, Dean knew exactly which memories. He just didn't want to think of them and now he didn't thanks to Luci. The Winchester calmed himself down and looked to Lucifer, nodding at the archangel to show his thanks. Luci nodded back and went back to fixing his brothers' feathers. Dean re-positioned Cas so the angel's face was tucked into his neck and he looked to their other three saviors.
"What took you guys so long?" The angels and Crowley each smirked. Typical Winchester.
"Apologies about that little escapade. Honestly it's impossible to get good help now days," Crowley sighed. Alfie jabbed Crowley in the ribs and the king of hell let out an irritated groan as the younger angel glared at him. The King of hell's gaze turned back to the Winchester family with a fake smile. "Is their anyway I can…compensate you for this…unfortunate night?" The group raised their brows at the demon and Crowley mouthed something along the lines of: Your scary ass big brothers are forcing me to do this. Just get it fucking over with.
"Well, your little cheer-leading squad did ruin our dinner," Dean hummed. "What do you think guys? How does Café Crowley sound?" Balthy and Gabe each cheered, joined quickly after by the rest of their gang. With a snap of their fingers Michael, Lucifer, and Alfie zapped the group back home at the dining table. Everyone gasped at the piles of food littering the table and Kevin let out a loud laugh.
"Oh man! We need Crowley's compensation a lot more," he chuckled, grabbing a chicken wing and practically swallowing it whole. The others joined him in laughter and started to fill their plates.
"Here, Cas," Dean whispered, dipping a french-fry from his plate into his milkshake and waving it over Cas' nose as the angel slept. Castiel's nose wiggled at the smell and he slowly opened his eyes, looking around sleepily.
"Wha…what happened?" Cas asked, voice groggy. Dean smiled at the angel and popped the french-fry into Cas' mouth.
"We got chased by demons, but your big brothers saved us and Crowley bought us dinner," Dean explained. Cas frowned a little, clearly trying to remember, but he gave up reaching for another french-fry on Dean's plate.
"Okay," the angel said, dipping the fry into Dean's milkshake. Castiel took a bite out of it, smiling as the salty sweet flavors rolled over his tongue.
"Good?" Dean asked. The little angel nodded and Dean sighed, looking up towards the ceiling and wondering if Lucifer was watching. He silently sent out a prayer, thanking Lucifer for saving his angel.
Thanks monkeygirl77 for the request! I don't know how long ago this was requested, but I found it hiding in my list.
