Gabe's Disastrous Adventures
It was cold out, but the campfire Kevin and Charlie had prepared kept everyone warm. That and the number of blankets Sam had yanked outside. Dean was stretched out on his belly on a blanket, roasting a marshmallow or two. Next to him the angels were doing very much the same while they waited for Sam and Bobby to bring out some hotdogs.
"We should tell stories," Charlie said while she rubbed her hands on Custos as the puppy slept lazily by the fire, trying to warm her cold fingers.
"I second that," Kevin stated in agreement before plopping down on one of the blankets opposite of Dean and the angels. Dean glanced over the angels, smirking devilishly.
"I'm sure you three have some interesting stories to tell," Dean chuckled through his grin. Castiel and Balthazar both smirked at turned their eyes to Gabriel. The older blushed brightly, forcing all his focus on his marshmallows.
"Yeah, Gabby, I'm sure we do," Balthazar giggled. Gabriel glared at him.
"Awe, come on, Gabby, please?" Cas whined, batting his big blue eyes at his brother. Gabe stiffened, trying his hardest to block out Cas' puppy dog eyes, but Cas was a master and pretty soon Gabe gave up.
"Back in Heaven when I was maybe a several centuries old…"
Gabriel snuck out of his nest, silent as a deer as he made his way past his sleeping big brothers. He weaved through the trees until finally finding where his father was busy with creating something new. Gabe watched him for a second as he molded the hands of this new creature. After a moment or so the archangel made himself known.
"Watcha making, Daddy? Another angel?" Gabe asked, poking at the mold God was busying himself with. God shook his head, glancing down at his son with a smile.
"Oh no, Gabriel. This is something much different. In fact I believe it will be my masterpiece," he said with a grin. Gabriel's eyes widened and he looked back to the skinny hands his father had been working on. God glanced back at his work as well and sighed. "I won't be finished with my new creations for a while yet though," he admitted. Gabriel perked up then and he reached out for one of the hands.
"I can help!" he shouted proudly. God quickly pulled his unfinished work away from the little angel.
"Sorry, Gabriel, but not this time," God stated, going back to work. Gabriel pouted, lip quivering as he plopped down on the ground and picked at the white toga he was wrapped in. God watched the angel for a minute, sighing softly before kneeling down next to the young angel. "How about I give you some parts to fiddle with and you can create your own creatures?" God offered, hoping that would cheer his son up even if it was just a little. It worked. Gabriel's eyes instantly brightened and that perfect smile reappeared on his pudgy face. God mirrored the smile and grabbed a box of parts, handing it to the angel before going back to work on his masterpiece. Gabriel dug through the box, mending random parts together and using what grace he had to give them a few seconds of life. The first creature he made had giant feet and ears. It had a giant tail that it occasionally rocked on. Gabe grinned and ran to his father with the new creature following close behind.
"DADDY! DADDY!" Gabe called. An irritated sigh left God's lips, but he didn't show any annoyance when he looked to his son. Gabriel continued to beam brightly and he pointed at the creature he had just made. "I call it Kanga," Gabriel announced, smiling brightly. God rose a brow as he stared at the strange creature with a pouch and giant feet. How Gabriel came up with the creature was beyond his knowledge. "Can I keep it?" Gabriel pleaded, hugging one of the giant legs of his new creation. God's eyes widened so much they almost bulged from his face. The little archangel's eyes grew larger as he waited for an answer and God found it impossible to say no. With a sigh he stepped into the kangaroo's personal space and breathed in its life. Where to put it was the real question now. God glanced down at the world bellow, wondering where he could hide this creature. His eyes finally stopped on a stretch of land in the ocean and he grinned widely. The space of land would one day be called Australia and it was the perfect place to drop Gabriel's creature. Snapping his fingers the kangaroo disappeared and soon reappeared safely on Earth in it's new home. Gabe grinned with satisfaction and quickly ran back to his parts. 2 hours later and several new creations later God had gotten nowhere with his own creations. He had spent most of his time readjusting some of Gabriel's creatures and giving them life. When Gabriel didn't come back after a while God decided that Gabriel had finally gotten bored and had fallen asleep. Boy was he wrong. What he didn't know was that Gabriel was taking extra care with his newest invention. He had put a bill on the fluffy creature's face and gave it the tail of a beaver. It was cute and cuddly, but it didn't do much. That was okay though. Gabe love it and that's all that mattered. Giving the creature a few seconds of life with his own grace Gabriel waddled over to his father with the new creation in his arms.
"Daddy, look!" Gabriel shouted, startling his father a little and causing him to almost drop his masterpiece. Gabriel watched as his father took a few deep breaths before turning around. God's face creased into a frown instantly on seeing the new creature.
"Ummm…Gabriel, what is that?" God questioned, thinking to himself that he rather have it be a kangaroo. Gabriel nuzzled the creature's face and smiled up at his father with those wide golden eyes.
"A platypus!" Gabriel announced. "Isn't it cute?"
"Oh it's something," a voice said from one of the trees surrounding them. God and Gabriel glanced upward to see Michael and Lucifer watching from a large branch. The two angels were dressed in white togas much like Gabriel's and the angels' hair was messed up from sleeping.
"Can we keep it? Please?" Gabe begged, jumping up and down excitedly. Lucifer and Michael scoffed at their brother.
"That? Are you crazy?" Michael questioned.
"What's the point of it?" Lucifer asked. Gabriel frowned at his brothers, stroking gently at the platypus's hair.
"Why's it got to have a point? Can't it just live to be happy?" Gabriel questioned, glancing between his brothers and father.
"Pft…no! It's gotta have a plan otherwise its useless –"
"But it's not useless!" Gabe shouted, face drawn in a frown as he stomped his foot. He looked at his father, eyes big. "Is it?" God's heart squeezed and he found himself once again falling to Gabriel's spell. With a sigh he took the platypus from Gabriel and gave it life. While Michael and Lucifer stared in surprise, Gabriel squealed and hugged his father tightly. "Thank you!" he cried, words muffled since his face was buried against his father. God smiled at his sweetly, handing him back the creature.
"How about you take him to Australia for me, Gabe. It'll be good practice for those wings of yours anyway," God suggested. Gabriel's eyes brightened.
"Yeah! I can show him Kanga and…and all his other new friends!" Gabriel shouted, clearly excited. God simply ruffled the angel's hair and watched as the archangel flew away.
Dean and the others instantly broke into laughter as Gabriel stopped. Tears were streaming down their faces from how hard they were laughing.
"Yeah, yeah, cut it out," Gabe muttered. Charlie whipped her eyes, clearing her throat.
"No, Gabe, it's cute. Really," she reassured the angel.
"And funny," Kevin cackled, falling onto his back as his laughter grew.
"What we miss? Gabriel and Balthazar set off some laughing gas or something?" Sam questioned as he and Bobby appeared with the hotdogs. Dean wiped the tears from his eyes.
"Just telling some campfire stories," Dean clarified, trying his best to hold down his laughter. Gabriel was probably going to get back at anybody that laughed at him later with something Dean did not want to be part of. Sam's eyes widened and he stabbed a hotdog with a stick before plopping down on the ground almost on top of Dean like the giant moose he is.
"I've got one then," Sam stated, sticking his hotdog into the fire. Everyone instantly perked up and they patiently waited for Sam to go on. "It all started on our way to get some ice cream…"
Gabriel and Sam walked over to the ice cream cart only to see that the line was stretching almost the entire block. Sam's face instantly fell at the sight and he let out a long sigh.
"Sorry, Gabe," he grumbled. "Looks like we'll have to find a different one." Gabe let out an exaggerated moan and leaned heavily against the tall Winchester.
"But we've been looking for one for hours!" Gabe exaggerated. Sam rolled his eyes at the angel.
"It's only been half an hour, Gabe. You wait here. I'm going into that book shop over there to ask if they know any close by." Gabriel nodded, plopping down on a bench and watching as Sam disappeared into the store. He was sitting right by the window so he could keep his eye on Sam and Sam could keep an eye on Gabe. The angel's stomach growled after a few seconds and the angel let out another whine, glancing at the ice-cream stand. If only there was a way to make the line go faster. Gabe's eyes lit up then and a devious little smile curled at his lips. He snapped his fingers together and the ice cream vendor instantly grew four extra arms. No one seemed to notice the change, but that was just because Gabe was using his grace to also mask the arms as only two very fast limbs. He didn't want to ruin or scare the poor old vender. Gabe watched as the line shortened quickly, but soon he began to notice a new problem. The vender was running out of ice cream. Gabe scowled he wasn't going to let that happen. No way! With another snap of fingers he used his grace to make more ice cream appear. That's when everything went haywire. Gabe's grace was working too well. So well in fact that ice cream was spilling out of the cart, spraying the crowd with thick globs of cold cream. Gabe yelped, trying to shut it off with his grace, but he had lost all concentration. He couldn't' focus. There was a ding as the store door Sammy had gone through opened and Gabriel's focus completely snapped.
"Hey, Gabe, there's –OOF!" Ice cream blew up all around them, splattering the streets and buildings. People screamed and ran for cover, but nowhere was safe. "Gabriel, do I even want to know?" Sam growled, pushing his ice cream coated hair out of his eyes. Gabriel let out a small laugh, trying to decide if he should run or not.
"Eh…venders should really be careful with how much ice cream they pack up in their carts," Gabriel fibbed. Sam shook his head, lips slowly creeping up into a smile. Gabriel's eyes widened. Was Sammy possessed? Sam let out a small chuckle and lifted Gabriel into his arms.
"Well, the line's shorter now. We might as well get our ice cream," Sam sighed.
"Really?" Gabe asked. Sam nodded, tossing Gabe into a mountain of ice cream that came up to his hip. Gabe disappeared into the mush, popping up only to throw a snow ball of ice cream into Sammy's face…
"Hold up!" Dean interrupted, stopping Sam in the middle of the story. "You two looked pretty clean when you came home."
"Used my grace," Gabe said with a small shrug. Dean nodded, handing over one of his perfectly golden brown marshmallows to Cas as the angel prepared the gram crackers and chocolate.
"So what happened?" Bobby asked, tossing a hotdog in the air for Custos to catch.
"A lot of ice cream," Sam said with a laugh. "When we finally got cleaned up and asked the vender for some ice cream he gave us free scoops for the all the trouble." Dean let out a loud laugh.
"Gabe remind me to bring you along the next time I go to get pie!" The hunter laughed. Gabriel stuck his tongue out at the hunter and stole the s'more Castiel had just finished making. The little angel glared at Gabriel, but the angel quickly snapped his fingers and a s'more quickly appeared in Cas' mouth, shutting the smaller angel up. Everyone burst into laughter again.
"Come on, Gabe, tell us another one,' Kevin prompted, leaning on his elbows as he waited intently. Everyone quickly cheered in agreement and Gabriel tried to think of something else to tell. His mind quickly clicked and soon the night was filled of old stories and tons of laughter.
Thank you deathraptor22 for the platypus request. I had some help from a post on tumblr for it too. Also thank you Allison Jalexa for the ice cream request.
