Launch to 1969

Samandriel and his siblings sat in a heaven of a little boy. The boy's heaven was of an old movie theater his father had taken him to multiple times before being drafted to Vietnam and killed. As the little boy and his father exited the theater to get popcorn, one of Alfie's brother's waved their hand and forced the movie to switch to a live broadcast of the Winchester household. Many of the angels enjoyed watching the everyday lives of the strange little family. Sometimes Alfie felt like he was intruding, but he had to admit that it was sometimes fun to watch.

It was night down on Earth and the angels were in their room with Dean. Samandriel and the others watched as Dean turned the page of a book as he read out loud to the angels piled up in his lap. It was the angels' bedtime and Dean was reading a book on spaceships to help the angels sleep. A chuckle left Alfie's lips. Humans. Staying on the ground was not enough for them. They always had to try to reach new heights. It was amazing.

There was a knock on the bedroom door just as Dean was about to turn the page again and Sam walked through with a few cups of hot chocolate. He was dressed in his pajamas and his hair was slightly ruffled.

"How's the book?" Sam asked, handing each angel a mug.

"Awesome!" Balthazar chimed, poking a little finger at the marshmallows in his mug. "I wish we could watch a ship launch into space." Dean frowned, closing the book as he took his own mug from Sam.

"Are you telling me that you guys never snuck down to Earth to watch one launch?" Dean questioned. The angels shrugged, sipping their hot chocolate tentatively.

"Sure we did, but we were usually on duty and couldn't really enjoy ourselves," Gabe stated simply. Alfie's grin fell slightly and he thought back to the number of times his brothers had tried to catch peaks at such things, but were always called back to Heaven. It was horribly sad –something that Alfie felt the same about and he wanted to change that. The young angel looked away from the smaller angels on the screen and their hunters and walk away from the group of angels currently watching. Inias and Hannah and watched their brother, confusion present on their faces.

"Where are you going, Brother?" they asked. Samandriel glanced over his shoulder, smiling widely.

"You'll see," he stated with a grin before zapping out of heaven.

With a flap of wings the angels and the Winchester brothers found themselves someplace far away from home. They were in a large field covered with endless green grass. Only a few minutes ago Samandriel had appeared out of nowhere only to zap them out of the house. Samandriel stumbled on his feet a little, leaning against Sam as he caught his breath.

"Where are we?" Sam asked. Alfie slowly pulled away from the hunter as he recovered.

"1969," the angel stated, face splitting into a wide smile. "The year Armstrong was sent to the moon. Eyes widened and the angels were practically jumping with excitement. The Winchesters were the only ones that didn't seem very pleased.

"You traveled through time, Alfie," Dean stated. "We almost lost Cas the few times he did that." The older hunter's eyes roamed over the youngest angel and then back to Samandriel. Alfie only smiled.

"I'll be alright if I don't exert anymore of my grace and as long as I send you five back home at a given time," the angel reassured. Sam and Dean still didn't look convinced, but they had no say in the matter because the deed was already done and Alfie was currently too weak to send them home. Alfie turned to Gabriel and Balthazar, asking them to prepare a small picnic while they wait for the launch. The angels nodded, using their grace to create blankets to lay on and a basket filled with food and drinks. Sighing, Alfie made himself comfortable on the blanket and scooped his brothers into his lap. Sam and Dean hesitantly took a seat next to Alfie, pulling beers out of the basket and laying down on their backs to gaze up at the sky.

"Where's the space station?" Cas asked. Alfie pointed towards a mass of bright lights in the distance.

"Over there," Alfie pointed out. "I figured it be better if we watched from this hill. There isn't a crowd and we can still see and hear from here." The angels looked out into the distance, eyes sparkling with anticipation. Sam and Dean in the meantime fished out whatever was in the basket and got to sapling the delicious food their angels had conquered up. Best to wait with a full stomach, right?

A several hours, sandwiches, and drinks later it finally happened. Cheering could be heard in the distance and the soft shouting of a countdown was carried throughout the area on the wind. The group perked up, looking away from their picnic and back out into the large expanse of land.

"It's starting!" the angels cried. A large bang made them all jump and soon enough the sky was alight. A bright light blasted from the craft and everyone watched with wide eyes as the ship blasted upwards. Flames and smoke spewed from the craft, making it one of the most beautiful and magnificent sights in the simple sky. Lights flared in all directions as the ship went higher and higher. Cheers left their mouths and soon the craft was gone. The cries slowly died down and they lay back down against the blankets. They continued staring at the sky, too in awe to look away. Alfie squeezed his brothers a little tighter, enjoying having them in his arms. He was fully healed now. He could feel it deep within his grace, but he didn't want to ruin the perfect number. Their return home could wait for a little longer.
