The Middle Angel's Dragon
Sam and Dean sat outside with Balthazar, watching the angel as he practiced his powers. Normally he would practice with Gabe, but the archangel had grown tired and was now taking a nap with Cas in their room. Still, Balthazar had to practice and the two hunters were perfectly able to lend a hand, right?
"Try creating something, Balthy!" Sam shouted at the angel. The angel had spent the last ten minutes firing at a target and burning it too ash. The little angel was probably itching to do something else.
Balthazar nodded, sucking in a breath and putting all his concentration on an image in his mind. Sam and Dean both cheered for him quietly while a sliver of light suddenly appeared in front of the two hunters and angel. It slowly began to grow, wings sprouting from its back and long giant claws growing out of the pure light. The hunters' expressions quickly changed to ones of fear once the light dimmed to reveal the new creature. Standing next to Balthazar was a fire breathing dragon almost identical to the one in Desolation of Smaug. Balthy grinned widely.
"Awesome!" he cheered just as Dean scooped him up and held him protectively as he and Sam ran for safety. The dragon let out a loud roar and sent a ball of fire at their heads. Luckily, it was a bad shot. The hunters zigzagged through the front yard, wondering how their neighbors had yet to notice the huge fire breathing lizard. There's a loud bang of a door slamming open and the hunters and their angel both glanced at the doorway to see Bobby standing by the door with a shotgun in hand.
"What the hell did you idjits do now?!" Bobby called after them as they ran laps around the house.
"Don't shoot it, Bobby!" a voice called from above. Everyone glanced at the bedroom window to the angels' bedroom to see a sleepy Gabe and Cas sticking their heads out the window and staring at the dragon in awe.
"Nice one, Balthy! Make a sea serpent next!" Gabriel shouted down at his brother. Balthy grinned at the idea, but both brothers had different ideas.
"You two go back to bed and stop giving him ideas!" Dean shouted up at them, panting heavily. The hunter glanced over his shoulder at the dragon. "How can you three be so cool about this? Even Custos won't go near it!"
"That's 'cuz he's still sleeping!" Cas shouted out the window, glancing back to their bed to see Custos flopped on his side with a paw over his eyes. That dog could sleep through anything.
"Great! And I suppose Kevin and Charlie are sleeping through this too?" Dean shouted back.
"Actually, no. Last I saw they were playing Dungeons and Dragons," Sam spoke up from Dean's side. He glanced behind them again at the dragon and swallowed thickly. "Could use their dragon skills right about now," he muttered. The dragon sent out another ball of fire at them. Sam yelped as it almost got his hair while his brother cussed at the sight of the burning laces on his boots. Fucking really?!
"Balthazar, do something. I'm going to keel over if we do another damn lap," Dean panted, sweat rolling off his skin. Balthazar smirked up at the hunter, but didn't argue. He must have been getting bored of going around in circles too then. With a snap of his fingers the dragon shrunk down so it was the size of a Saint Bernard.
"Oops," Balthy muttered, snapping his fingers again. This time he changed the dragon to a bright purple color.
"Balthazar, do something!" the brothers panted before finally collapsing from exhaustion. They waited for the dragon to charcoal them a dark black. Instead they were met with faces full of slobber and hot breath that smelled of thick, suffocating smoke. The brothers chanced opening their eyes and were met with the face of the Saint Bernard sized purple dragon. Balthy was sitting on Dean's chest, patting the dragon gently on the nose and giggling. Sam and Dean both let out sighs of relief and focused on regaining their air.
"Can we keep him?" Balthy asked, eyes wide with hope. Dean rose a brow at the angel.
"One slobbering beast is enough for me," Dean moaned, covering his face with a hand as he lay in the burnt grass of their lawn.
"Dido," Sam muttered, pushing himself up and checking his hair for burnt places. He ignored the way Dean rolled his eyes and instead looked to Balthazar. The angel was currently giving him puppy eyes. Damn it. "No, Balthy." The angel pouted at that for a moment until his eyes suddenly lit up with something mischievous. When that look slowly made its way to Balthy's growing smile Sam silently sent out a prayer.
"If I make the dragon disappear then I get access to Bobby's liquor cabinet," the angel said triumphantly. Sam rose a brow at the angel and chuckled, glancing at his brother to see that Dean looked as if he was actually considering it.
"Dean!" Sam shouted. Dean quickly snapped all thoughts of letting Balthazar have all the liquor he wanted and mimicked Sam's stern parenting stare. Being a parent was too damn hard sometimes.
"Sorry, Balthazar. No deal," Dean stated. Balthazar grinned then, getting onto the back of his dragon. The dragon let out another ball of fire, sending both hunters running again. "Goddamn it, Balthazar!" Dean shouted as he and Sam started doing laps around the house again. Dean glanced over at his panting brother. "Think we can get Gabe to turn all the liquor to apple juice?" he offered. A smirk slowly curled over Sammy's lips and the hunter turned his gaze upward, glancing at the bedroom window where Cas and Gabe were currently laughing their asses off.
"Sounds like a plan."
