A Fallen's Horror
Balthazar and Gabriel snuck up on their little brother as he lay curled up in a mound of pillows and blankets. His wings were wrapped delicately around himself and the blue baby blanket was thrown over his legs. There was a crease over the baby angel's brow and he tossed slightly in his sleep.
"You sure about this, Gabby?" Balthazar questioned, staring at his baby brother's sleeping form with nervousness and worry. Gabriel nodded, crawling up onto the bed next to Cas and placing a hand on the little angel's head.
"Together we've got enough power to do this," Gabe said. "Aren't you curious after what that witch said about him?" Gabe questioned. Balthazar shifted uneasily on his feet, but nodded. "Okay then. Let's get this over with," Gabe huffed, helping Balthazar onto the bed. Balthazar touched his baby brother's forehead like Gabe and closed his eyes, willing his grace to wrap around the three of them. He felt exhausted instantly, but Gabriel's grace was there to help him. "Bathy, open your eyes," Gabe whispered softly. Balthazar did as Gabe said and his eyes instantly widened at what he saw.
"Where are we –" Balthazar broke off, realizing it was a stupid question. There was only one place like this and now it was burning all around them. Angel wings were burnt into the ground at their feet, but there were no bodies. Blood splattered across everything and in the center of it all was a full grown Castiel.
"Dean? Sam? Anybody?!" their brother cried out, looking in every direction, shaking to the bone. Castiel was drenched in blood and his trench coat was tattered. "Please! Somebody?!" Balthazar and Gabriel watched, mouths wide open as they took in the sight. What was going on here? Where was everyone?
"Oh, Castiel," a voice hummed. Cas turned with tear stained eyes and met the gaze of Lucifer, Raphael, Naomi, and a figure neither Gabe or Balthy could see.
"Where are they?! Where are they?!" Cas screamed at the figures. Naomi smiled at him, stepping forward and caressing the angel's cheek.
"Oh, Castiel, isn't it obvious? You drove them away," she chuckled. "You always drive them away." Cas pulled away from her and she vanished into a grey smoke. Raphael and Lucifer stood in front of him then, smiling at him with toothy grins.
"You are corrupt," Raphael spat, pulling a small canteen out from his jacket pocket. "You are fallen." Raphael splashed the liquid from the canteen at Cas' feet and it instantly ignited. Cas cried out, jumping away from the flames but he was surrounded. Black smoke billowed from the flames, choking the air right out of the angel. Raphael let out a terrifying laugh before turning into smoke as well and surrounding Castiel. Lucifer stepped through the flames, body instantly lighting up with flames.
"I told you, Castiel. You and I are the same," Lucifer mused. "The rebels," the older angel hummed, flames licking away his skin. "The lonely." The muscle on his vessel began to tear away. "The unloved." Bones collapsed at Castiel's feet and the flames snuffed out, leaving Castiel in total darkness. Cas dropped to his knees, breathing heavily as he tried to collect himself, but the terror building up inside him was too strong. Balthazar and Gabriel wanted nothing other than to run to their brother and say it wasn't true, but Cas couldn't see them. They were only in a dream.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
All three angels looked up as the steady sound of something wet falling caught their attention. The figure they couldn't make out before was coming closer now, approaching Cas with steady steps. Gabe and Balthy had no clue who it was, but by the sheer look of terror on Castiel's face he knew.
"Please…not…not you. Please," Cas whimpered, trying to pull away, but he couldn't move. He was stuck. Forced to kneel before the thing that terrified him more than anything.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
They could see what was making the noise now. Something black was falling to the ground at the figures feet at a steady pace. The figure stopped right in front of Castiel, black ooze seeping out from beneath it and surrounding Cas in a dark puddle.
"Did you really think you could escape us?" a high pitched voice chuckled, various whispers joining it. Cas covered his ears, rocking himself as tears suddenly blossomed from his eyes. Balthazar and Gabriel stepped closer for a better look at this mysterious knew figure, but they instantly wished they hadn't. In front of Castiel sat an exact copy of himself, only this wasn't Cas. This thing's eyes were empty and dead, but wide and crazed. Blood decorated the trench coat wrapped around it along with the same black goo that leaked from every bit of its body.
"Leviathan," both angels gasped as they watched Castiel and the monster from purgatory. Cas let out a sob, ducking his head in attempt to free himself of the sight.
"No…no…" he muttered, the tears in his eyes falling fast. The leviathan kneeled in front of him, taking Cas head in its hands.
"There is no way to escape us, Castiel. We are one. You are a killer…a destroyer! A –"
"NO!" Cas screamed, pulling away and covering his face with his arms. The leviathan cackled, raising to its feet and waving a hand at the angel kneeling before it.
"Yes!" it cried as black goo rose from around Cas and swallowed him up. Gabe and Balthazar screamed, racing towards their brother, but there was nothing they could do for him. After a second the goo washed away and revealed Castiel strapped to a splintered cross. Black dripped from his body, mixing with his tears. "How did it feel, Castiel?" the Leviathan chuckled. "How did it feel to smite half of heaven?" Cas dipped his head, trying not to meet the Leviathan's eyes as it taunted him. Light slowly faded in around them, revealing the patches of burnt wings again, but this time bodies were crumpled on the ground with them. The angels recognized each and every one of the dead.
"I didn't…I…" Cas stumbled, hiccupping as he cried.
"How did it feel to betray the ones you love?!" the leviathan shouted disappearing and then being replaced by three figures that rose from the black goo surrounding Cas. The black dribbled off the new forms, revealing the Winchester's and Bobby. "How did it feel to hurt them and watch them turn against you?"
"Please! Stop!" Cas screamed, looking up at last. He froze when he met Dean's furious eyes. The hunter was glaring at him like the angel was dirt on the hunter's shoe. "Stop…please. I…I'm sorry," Cas whimpered. Dean's face softened slightly and he reached out to the angel, running his hands gently through Cas' hair.
"How did it feel to watch him get hurt because of you?" Black goo erupted around Dean, clawed hands ripping him apart right in front of the angel. Castiel let out a scream and pulled at his restraints, ignoring how the nails in his hands and feet tore away his flesh. Bobby and Sam met a similar fate to Dean's and soon their blood was splashed across Castiel's face. The Leviathan appeared then, right behind Cas and it pressed a hand on the angel's back. Two raven black wings zapped out of Cas' shoulder blades the goo slowly started to snake up Castiel's body and the cross. The Leviathan leaned in close, lips just a whisper close to Cas' ear. Cas' shuttered, another sob racking his body as silence stirred for only a small second. "How does it feel to be alone?" The goo shot up Castiel's body, leaving gashes and welts everywhere it touched until it reached his wings. Claws and hands shot out from the goo and ripped at his wings, tearing them until bone peaked through muscle. Cas screamed the entire time, calling out for anybody, but no one would answer. He was alone.
Gabriel and Balthazar shot out of the dream, faces stained with thick tear tracks. They looked to their little brother, watching as he curled in on himself and muttered in his sleep. Gabe gently stroked a wing, looking up at Balthazar to see tears building up again in the angel's eyes. He reached out, squeezing Balthazar's shoulder lightly. Balthy shook his head.
"We shouldn't have seen that," he muttered, feeling like he had invaded in something not meant to be seen. "W…why does he still blame himself, Gabby? Why?!" Balthy sobbed, covering his face with his hands. Gabe rubbed his brother's shoulder up and down gently, trying his best to comfort.
"You know why," he whispered, turning his gaze back to his littlest brother. Cas face was still creased as his nightmare went on. Gabe pulled his hand away from Balthazar and picked Castiel up in his arms, rocking his baby brother gently as he started to sing. He was speaking enochian, but the song was human.
Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
After a minute or two Cas' eyes flickered open and he smiled up at his brothers, rubbing at his eyes sleepily. Balthazar and Gabe stopped singing, waiting for their brother to burst into tears or cling to them, but he didn't. He only sat up and stretched his wings like he always did when he woke up.
"How'd you sleep, Cassie?" Balthazar asked. "Any nightmares?" Cas paused for a moment, mid-stretch. He turned his head to the side a little, but then shrugged.
"Don't remember," the angel hummed, finishing with his stretching and flying off the bed to the floor. "Dwean!" the baby angel called out pulling open the bedroom door. Dean stopped as he heard his name called and smiled at the angel over the laundry he was taking to their room. He set the clothes down on the dresser in their room and then scooped Cas up into his arms, ruffling the angel's hair.
"Want to help me carry in the next load, Buddy?" Dean asked. Cas bobbed his head up and down and Dean held Cas closer to his chest. "You two want to help too?" Dean called over his shoulder. Balthazar and Gabriel shook their heads and Dean shrugged, walking out of the room with Cas.
"He doesn't remember it," Balthazar gasped, staring at the open doorway Dean and Cas had been standing in only seconds before.
"Remember what the witch said? She didn't know what the dreams would do to his head. Maybe…his head is protecting him from the nightmares and making him forget?" Gabe concluded.
"Let's just hope we never find out what'll happen," Balthazar stated. "Some things are better left unknown." Gabriel nodded, a sad look clouding his eyes. He only wished they had thought of that before jumping into Cassie's dreams.
Thank you monkeygirl77 for the nightmare request. Poor Cas just doesn't get a break does he?
