Starry Nights and Gooey Feathers
Red and orange flames licked at the gooey white dessert stuck to a stick Bobby had gathered from a tree that rested just outside the Winchesters' house. Dean pulled his marshmallow from the flames and stuck it between a hunk of chocolate and two gram crackers before stuffing it into his mouth. Dean let out a pleased moan and glanced over at the rest of his family. Charlie, Bobby, and Kevin were each roasting up to two marshmallows while Sam threw more wood on the fire. Gabriel, Balthazar, and Cas sat nearest to the fire, munching on marshmallows alone. The sticky mush was stuck in their hair, feathers, clothes, and faces.
"You three know you're supposed to eat marshmallows, right? Not wear them?" Dean questioned, drawing all attention on the little angels. Sam's eyes widened at the sight of the three and he let out a low moan.
"I am not going to be the one to scrub that out their feathers," he growled. Dean let out a loud laugh and grabbed his brother by the sleeve, forcing Sam to sit with him. Sam swatted at Dean and grabbed himself a marshmallow from the bag and started roasting one, watching as it went from a pure white to a golden brown. Silence enveloped them all, the only sound being the soft chirp of crickets and the croaking of frogs.
"Hey, a shooting star!" Charlie cried suddenly, pointing up into the sky. Everyone looked up with her, watching as the star fell behind a forest of trees. Balthazar wiggled from his spot between his brothers and crawled into Bobby's lap.
"I don't like falling stars," he muttered, reaching over and stealing a marshmallow from Dean's hand and plopping it into his mouth.
"Why's that?" Kevin questioned, holding a smirk back as Dean wrinkled his nose at his now marshmallowless hand. Balthazar licked his lips and glanced upwards towards the dark sky.
"Because then they're gone," the middle angel whispered, leaning up against Bobby and relaxing against the hunter.
"A new one pops up in its place though," Cas stated, licking his gooey fingers. "Remember that star?" Cas pointed at one of the stars in the Capricorn constellation. "When its brother fell it was born in its place." A smile returned to Balthazar's face then at the happy memory.
"I remember. The blast from the star almost made Gabby smack into a planet," the middle angel giggled.
"Did not!" Gabe shouted through a mouthful of marshmallows. The group burst into laughter and Gabe crossed his arms, sticking his tongue out at them all.
"What do stars look like up close?" Charlie asked, looking between the three angels. Balthazar and Gabriel shared a look, each snapping their fingers. Lights exploded above them and the group gasped in an awe and surprise as fireworks blazed around them. They weren't like the usual fireworks though. These ones dissolved into sparking dust instead of smoke and brightened the sky more than the usual set of firecrackers. The colors turned and bled together, making it look like miniature galaxies spinning around each other. Dean picked Cas up and pushed the angel onto his shoulders, not caring that Cas was going to get him all sticky. Cas sat on the hunters shoulders, face and eyes lit up from the blazing sky above them. Gabriel and Balthazar waved their hands back and forth, manipulating the color and brightness of each star-like firework with just the twitch of a finger. The group relaxed while they watched the show, cleaning out the bag of marshmallows and getting even more of the sticky treat on themselves than before. When the flames finally died out in their fire pit they still didn't move. Instead they all sat back in the grass and listened to the angels' stories about distant stars and strange galaxies.
"Can we sleep out here?" Cas questioned as he started to yawn. Dean smiled a little and nodded pulling his jacket around the two of them.
"Yeah, but someone will have to go grab the tents," Dean hummed, nodding towards the garage. Balthazar and Gabriel jumped up from their spot in the grass and quickly scurried into the garage in search of the tents. Dean laughed under his breath and looked up towards the stars. He watched a satellite blink past and suddenly and idea came to mind.
"Hey, Cas?" The angel hummed, eyes closed as he started to drift to sleep. "Are aliens real?" Silence. "Cas?" Nothing. Dean glanced down into his arms to see the angel trying to hide a smirk as he fake slept. "Cas!" Dean whined. The angel could be a real troll when he wanted to. Dean dug his fingers into Cas' side, erupting a stream of giggles from the angel's lips.
"Dwean! No! Stahahop!" Cas cried through a fit of laughter.
"Not till you answer me!" Dean shouted over Cas screeching laughter. "Maybe I'll have the others join in too?" Cas' eyes widened and he glanced at Charlie, Kevin, Sam, and Bobby. All four were looking at him with the same evil glint Dean had in his eye at the moment.
"Then you have to get through us!" came a loud shout. Dean gasped as Gabriel and Balthazar tackled him from behind and started tickling the hunter under the neck with their fingers while their wings got his ribs. Dean cried out, rolling over and onto the ground, Cas still in his hands.
"Stahahaop! I…I give up!" Dean cried, trying to swat the feathers from his sides. Balthazar and Gabriel didn't let up, their fingers working quickly against the hunter's neck and kneecaps. "Sahaham! H…help!" Dean cried, reaching and arm out to his brother and the other three working on the tents Gabe and Balthazar had dropped by them before piling onto Dean.
"On your own, dude," Sam said with a wicked grin, turning his back on his brother and going back to the tent.
"B…bitchaha!"
"Jerk!"
