Joke Gone Wrong
Dean bounced Cas up and down in his arms as the angel sobbed, trying everything in his power to calm down the poor guy. Thick tears rolled down from the angel's eyes and Dean constantly had to keep a tissue to Cas' nose to keep the shot from dribbling down the angel's face. Nothing seemed to work though. There was only one thing Cas wanted and that was his coat. Where was said coat? Only two angels knew that answer.
"Where is it?" Sam asked, arms crossed and foot tapping impatiently against the carpet as he glared at the two sitting in the corner. Gabriel and Balthazar remained silent, looking down at their hands as Sam gave them the death glare. Dean honestly didn't understand why they didn't just tell them where the damn thing was. Cas had been crying all morning. Enough was enough.
Sam sighed and glanced over to Dean, meeting the hunter's eyes. He held out his hands and Dean transferred Cas into Sammy's arms. The angel didn't seem to notice the swap. he was crying too hard to care.
"I'm going to take him to his room. Maybe I can get him to fall asleep or maybe Charlie and Kevin will have something to distract him for a while?" he offered. Dean nodded and Sam took that as his cue to leave. Once Sam was gone Dean glared down at the angels at his feet.
"Alright, what the hell did you two do to his coat? You both usually give up the second he starts tearing up," Dean stated, crossing his arms and mimicking Sam's stance from earlier. The angels shifted uncomfortably before finally looking up at Dean.
"It was just a joke," Balthazar began. Gabriel nodded.
"We didn't mean to…" Gabriel trailed off, not saying what it was they had done. Dean sighed and kneeled down to their level, looking them both in they eye.
"Okay, I get it. You're sorry and you feel bad, but if you want to fix this you're going to have to tell me where Cas' coat is," Dean pushed. He knew the feeling of getting in trouble. It sucked, but eventually you had to own up to whatever you did.
The angels both shared a look before finally giving in. They both got up from the floor in the corner and went to the door, Dean following close behind. The angels lead him outside and around the house to the big tree right outside their bedroom. They both pointed upwards, pointing out the small, tan coat hanging on one of the higher tree branches. Dean's eyes widened. "How the hell?!"
"We were using it as a parachute while Cas was sleeping. He's always bugging us, wanting to play parachute with our wings for fun," Balthazar explained. "It...It was just part of a game we were gonna play on him, but then it got stuck and…" Dean held up a hand, cutting the angel off. He walked over to the trunk of the tree and let out a grunt before taking hold of a branch.
"What are you doing?!" Gabriel shouted up at the hunter.
"Getting the damn trench coat!" Dean shouted down at them.
"You can't!' Balthazar shouted back.
"We tried! It's stuck!" Gabriel called up. Dean ignored them, continuing to climb to the weaker patch of branches where the coat was stuck. The hunter silently swore as he climbed. Couldn't it have been a different tree?" This one was younger. Though it's branches were young and firm, they were bending and didn't stay still when grabbed. Dean pushed down any worries bubbling inside him as he climbed though. Cas was stubborn and without that coat he would keep on crying till he'd turn blue in the face.
Dean grabbed at the coat once getting in arms reach of the thing. He tugged it. nothing. He tugged at it again. Nope. He tried pulling it in a different direction, but the thing still wouldn't budge. Damn thing was just as stubborn as Cas. Dean let out an irritated growl and wound his hand around the fabric giving it one hard pull.
Snap!
Dean cried out as the branch holding the coat snapped free and whacked him right in the face. The hit knocked him unbalanced and sent him falling towards the earth. Branches and leaves smacked him on the way.
Gabriel and Balthazar cried out with him, both flying into the air and tugging at his clothes in attempt to lift him away from the fall, but Dean was too heavy. They were angels, but only miniature ones. They didn't have the strength they used to, meaning they had no strength to catch a full grown, pie munching, hunter.
When Dean's body finally hit the ground an eerie silence filled the air. No birds sun and the wind refused to howl. Everything was silent except for the muffled cries upstairs from Castiel. Balthazar and Gabriel landed by Dean's limp body, terror shaking them when Dean made no move to get up.
"Dean?" they called. Nothing. Gabriel poked the hunter, but Dean remained motionless. The archangel then turned Dean's face away from the dirt it was planted in, sucking in a breath at the sight of blood dribbling down the hunter's forehead and over his cheeks.
"He's dead!" Balthazar screeched, covering his mouth with his hands in terror.
"He's not dead you idiot!" Gabriel shouted back, pressing his fingers to Dean's neck just to make sure. There was a pulse, but Dean's bleeding forehead sent their stomach spinning.
"What do we do?" Balthazar questioned, panic heavy in his eyes. Gabriel looked to his brother, realizing that he was shaking.
"Hey, he'll be okay," Gabe promised, wrapping his arms around his little brother. He doubted it would be any help though since he was shaking just as hard. Gabe pulled away then and cupped his hands over his mouth. "HELP! SOMEBODY! HELP!" Gabe called out into the silence. Balthazar mimicked his brother, both of them shouting out, but not being heard over Castiel's loud cries.
"What are you two upset about?" a rough voice suddenly asked. Both looked up to see Dean slowly sitting up. The blood on his face was starting to congeal and a large scab was suddenly present just above the hairline.
"Dean!" the angels cried out, lunging into Dean's arms.
"We thought you weren't going to wake up!" Balthazar shouted, voice slightly muffled since his face was buried in Dean's shoulder. "We tried to shout for the others, but they couldn't hear us and neither of us wanted to leave you and…"
"Hey, hey, calm down," Dean urged, hugging the two close. "I'm okay. Just a little bump," Dean reassured. Both angels scoffed.
"That's quite a bloody bump," the angels grumbled. Dean touched his head, wincing slightly.
"I'll have Bobby patch it up," Dean said, rubbing the dried blood off that had run down his face. He stood up, unwinding Cas' coat from his grip. "You two go and give this back to your brother," he added, handing over the coat. "No parachuting with it." The angels both nodded and Dean stumbled back into the house, calling out for Bobby to grab the medkit. The angels followed him inside, heading upstairs to Sam's room. Sam was sitting in the reading chair by the window of his room. Cas was in his arms, crying into the hunter's shoulder. Balthazar knocked on the door and Sam looked up. A smile ghosted across his lips and he looked down at the sobbing angel in his arms..
"Look what your brothers brought you Cas," Sam whispered, fingers lightly carding through the angel's messy hair. Cas let out a small whimper and raised his head, blinking back the tears blurring his vision. The youngest angel gasped at the sight of his coat in Gabriel's hands and he jumped from Sam's arms, rushing over to his brothers. Gabriel and Balthazar helped Cas' hands into the sleeves and once the angel's security coat was back around his shoulders safe and sound both Gabe and Balthazar hugged their little bro tightly.
"Sorry," the both whispered. Cas accepted the apology, face split in two by his smile.
Dean chose that moment to enter the room, white bandage wrapped around his head. Sam and Cas both gave Dean a look. Dean shrugged and winked at Balthazar and Gabriel.
"Climbing accident," Dean said vaguely before kneeling down in front of Cas and ruffling the angel's hair. "See you're big brothers rescued your coat, Cas," Dean said with a grin. Cas nodded and turned back to his brothers, hugging them both as hard as he could.
"Wanna go play now, Cassie?" Balthazar asked. Cas nodded, looking between his brothers.
"What should we play? Parachuting again?" Cas asked, suddenly looking excitedly. Balthazar and Gabriel shared a look with Dean. The hunter was giving them a look that clearly said: 'Do it and you'll get bathtime in holy oil'. Balthazar and Gabriel both grabbed Cas' hands, pulling their brother out of Sam's room. Maybe there's parachuting on some of the old Nintendo games?
Thank you HunterChic1807 for the request. I hope it was worth the wait.
