Angel Sitters
Dean slammed through the cupboards, grumbling as he stared at the emptiness within each one. They were completely out of grub and he was fucking starving. Sighing, Dean scribbled a note for the others and pinned it to the fridge, not noticing that he had grabbed the one crappy magnet that tended to lose its hold on the fridge door. The hungry hunter fished his keys from his pocket and went to the attached garage to get his baby. The rumbling of the Impala did nothing to wake up the others in the house.
Bobby was the next to get up, he yawned, scratching at his beard as he shuffled into the kitchen. He opened the fridge, not noticing as the note Dean left fluttered to the floor when the magnet loosened slightly against the fridge. He frowned when he looked at the emptiness. No milk, no eggs, no nothing. Grumbling, Bobby went outside, walking over to his truck parked outside and got in. Maybe he'd make omelets for breakfast for everyone if he could get his hands on some onions, mushrooms, peppers, and cheddar cheese? Yeah, omelets would be a nice change. He was sick of waffles. With his mind made up, Bobby pulled out of the driveway, heading towards the store.
Sam and Kevin were the next to wake up. They shuffled downstairs, murmuring good mornings to each other. Kevin plopped down at the kitchen table as Sam went towards the fridge.
"The others must still be sleeping, huh?" Sam murmured sleepily, opening the fridge to find emptiness just as his surrogate father and brother had. "Damn it." Kevin looked up from where his head had been resting tiredly against the table.
"What's up?" the prophet questioned. Sam stepped to the side, revealing the empty fridge. Kevin pailed instantly. "Guess this means we're going shopping now, huh?" he moaned. Sam nodded, running a hand through his morning hair.
"I guess," Sam muttered. "I'd wake Dean up to do it, but he'll just get junk food." Kevin nodded and slowly got up from his chair.
"Lets get going then. I can't function without my breakfast," Kevin stated matter of factly. Sam chuckled and pulled Kevin towards the door to the garage, both frowning when they found the Impala was gone.
"Dean must have went out for a little drive," Sam hummed. Kevin nodded, looking outside to see that Bobby's truck was missing too.
"Guess Bobby went out too." Sam peeked outside, wondering what the hell Bobby would be doing so early. Maybe he got a call from a local hunter? Either way, they were still missing a way of transportation.
"Now what?" Sam asked, glancing around the garage, wishing Dean would suddenly role in with the Impala. Kevin looked around the garage with him, eyes lighting up when he noticed two bikes leaning up against the wall. One was the bike Kevin had used to teach the angels and the other was the one he had bought so he Dean or Sam could ride with the angels too. Sam followed Kevin's gaze when he noticed the wide grin stretching across the prophet's face. His eyes lit up too at the idea. He reached for the bike, halting when a hand on his shoulder stopped him. Sam turned, meeting a suddenly worried Kevin. "Kevin? What's wrong?" Kevin nodded back towards the doorway leading to the house.
"Dean and Bobby are gone, Sam. We can't leave the angels home alone," Kevin stated. Sam smiled then and turned back to grab the bikes.
"They're not alone, Kev. Charlie's still sleeping upstairs right?" Relief instantly washed over the prophet. He'd completely forgotten. Usually he and Charlie were up around the same time, but maybe she was sleeping in after a long night of World Warcraft? Either way, Sam was right. The angels were safe. Taking a bike from Sam the two exited the garage and made their way down the driveway. None of them realizing that Charlie's bed was completely empty.
Charlie slammed at the controller as she lost for the third time at Call of Duty. She turned her gaze towards her opponent and was met with a soft kiss.
"Sorry, babe," her opponent said with a grin as she pulled back. "But I'm the queen of Black Ops." Charlie hit a button on her controller, starting the game over again.
"We'll see about that, Lila," Charlie said back to her newest girlfriend. She went back to staring at the TV, battling against Lila's character. Her and Lila had met at a convention Charlie had gone to about a week ago and hit it off with the kick-ass gamer. Charlie would always sneak out to meet with Lila. Its not that she was ashamed or anything. She just didn't want Lila to meet the guys. She's brought girls over in the past and they've all been scared away at some point by the guys and even sometimes the angels. One time Charlie had showed up with a girl called Kenzie and Dean had decided to bring out all their weapons to clean out. Kenzie was more or less disturbed by the fact Charlie was possibly living with mass murderers. Nope, Charlie was never going through that ever again.
Lila turned off the game after once again beating Charlie's ass and helped her out of the man eating snorlax beanbag.
"Better go grab your cab before your brothers wake up," she said. Charlie nodded, grabbing her backpack and slipping on her shoes at the door of the apartment. Charlie pulled Lila in for a kiss then, stopping when she noticed her girlfriend was frowning. "I could drive you, ya know?" Lila muttered. Charlie's face fell and she shook her head.
"We talked about this, Lila. Not yet, okay? I need to tell the guys myself, but...not yet." Lila nodded and gave Charlie a quick kiss before opening the door for her. Charlie left with a quick goodbye and rushed into the streets. Her phone rang the instant she started to thumb for a taxi. She answered it, not even bothering to check who it was.
"Hey, Charlie! Can you ask the angels if they want to try chocolate chip waffles for a change?" Kevin called into the phone. Charlie swallowed, preparing her lie.
"Sorry, Kev, I'm not home. I…"
"You're not home?" Kevin's voice suddenly sounded worried. "Did Dean or Bobby come home before you left?" Charlie frowned, not understanding.
"I...I...uh...left last night," she admitted. There was silence on the other end and Charlie found herself gnawing at her lip nervously. What was going on? Why was her being gone such a bad thing? Finally, Kevin's voice popped up on the other end.
"C...Charlie, the angels...they're home alone," Kevin stuttered on the other end. Charlie felt the air suck right out of her lungs. "Where are you?" Kevin asked. Charlie quickly gave her the address she was at. "Sam just called Bobby. He'll pick you up," Kevin told her before hanging up and leaving Charlie alone. Guilt swirled in Charlie's stomach as she waited for Bobby's truck to come rolling towards her. If she hadn't snuck out none of this would be happening. Horrible thoughts started to fill her minds. What if the angels thought they'd been abandoned? What if one of their enemies had shown up? What if someone got hurt.
The honking of a truck horn blew her out of her thoughts. Charlie looked up and Bobby pushed the door open for her, shouting at her to get in. Charlie did as she was told and jumped into the passenger seat, barely closing the door before Bobby pulled out again. Charlie glanced at the phone in Bobby's free hand.
"Balls!" Bobby grumbled, tossing the phone away. "Damn idgit's not answering his damn phone!"
"Who…"
"Dean! No one's gotten ahold of him since Sam called. Boy could have driven into the damn ditch!" Bobby let out a sigh, trying to calm himself. "You know how he gets when he's worried. Especially when its got to do with those three." Charlie nodded. Averting her gaze.
"I'm really sorry, Bobby," Charlie said, picking at the sleeves of her sweatshirt nervously. "I never thought…"
"It's not your fault. One of us should have made sure instead of just assuming," Bobby reassured her, noticing the guilt in her voice. Charlie went silent then and looked out the window. Watching as the town soon turned into the countryside. She watched as they passed the house Samandriel shared with their neighbors and she watched as an Impala and two men on bikes came into view ahead of them. Bobby honked at them, earning a wave from Kevin and Sam on the bikes. He got nothing from Dean though. Charlie could just picture the hunter gritting his teeth together and white knuckling the steering wheel. It made her feel even worse.
When they pulled into the driveway, terror struck them all at the sight of a blue punch buggy sat right in front of their garage. Dean was the first to move. The man was out of the Impala so fast he hadn't even bothered to switch the engine off. Sam and Kevin followed after him, pushing their bikes to the ground as they ran.
"Idgits," Bobby grumbled, grabbing two guns and a knife from the glove-box. He handed one gun to Charlie and hid the knife in his coat. Together, Charlie and Bobby raced towards the house, sneaking inside and readying their firearms. They made their way into the kitchen and pointed their weapons at the unfamiliar face inside. It was a woman with short brown hair and almond eyes.
"Guys! Guys!" Sam shouted, jumping in front of their guns and holding up his hands. "Don't shoot! It's okay. It's okay…" Sam's eyes turned towards the floor. Dean was on his knees, hugging all three angels tight while another angel sat on the floor next to Custos gurgling and blowing spit bubbles. The baby girl had blue-grey hair, and eyes that shifted from a color that resembled bright glowing embers to a star-like grey. The wings sticking out from between her shoulders were just as beautiful. They reminded her of the feathers of a Painted Bunting Charlie and her mother had watched come to the feeder just outside their window every morning. Bright reds, yellows, blues, and greens all mixed together. The stranger in the room cleared her throat then and both Bobby and Charlie turned their gazes to her.
"Hello, I'm Brittany and this little angel…" Brittany turned her gaze towards the little angel on the floor. "This is Ambriel." Charlie froze at hearing the name.
"Ambriel? But she's...she's…."
"Dead," Dean finished. All eyes turned to Ambriel as she played with Custos' tail. Brittany walked over then, scooping the baby girl up into her eyes.
"Well, you have her brother to thank for her life," she said, smiling at the group. they all shared confused glances. Sam asked which brother after a moment and Brittany laughed and decided to enlighten them on what was apparently the obvious. "It was her brother Lucifer of course."
