December 18th

The house was a grand mess of streamers and confetti on one special crisp December afternoon. It was December 18th to be exact. The day the angels were hit with Lydia's spell a year ago.

Kevin and Charlie sat cross-legged in the living room with Custos sitting between them. Stacked above their heads were gifts for each angel from a number of people. All were presents from Mrs. Tran, Samandriel's family, Jody and the gang, Missouri and Piper, Brittany and Ambriel, and a few from some other angel adopted families they've found the past few days. Charlie set the X-box she bought for the angels in the center of her special Yoda wrapping paper. She folded the paper around the box, finishing with her set of boxes to wrap. She looked to Kevin and let out a laugh at the sight of his wrapping skills. The papers were crinkled and tape was everywhere. The prophet wasn't even close to finishing wrapping the presents. Charlie rolled her eyes at the prophet and scooted over to his side.

"Here, Kev, let me help." She started to ready the paper, but stopped when she noticed the entire roll of tape was empty. "How the hell did you use up all the tape?!" she shouted at him. Kevin shrugged and waved at the floor covered in several balls of tape. Charlie pulled him up onto his feet and led him towards the kitchen.

Dean and Sam rushed about the kitchen hurriedly. Dean was busy finishing the angel's cake. Yes, a cake of all things. Sam had been very clear in telling him that pie was not an acceptable dessert for a birthday. Dean still made sure to make a few pies anyway. Sam was making himself busy in searching for some candles. He'd warned Dean that they might not have any, but Dean had insisted that they had some left over from the last party. Now Sam was on a feverish search to find anything that resembled a candle.

A loud beep blasted throughout the kitchen and Dean grinned widely as he turned off the timer. The cake and pies were finished! Dean brushed off some flour onto his apron and reached into the oven, pulling out the chocolate cake with one hand and balancing the pies in the other. He turned, setting them down on the counter to cool and moved on to making the icing. He pulled out a large mixing bowl, watching as Kevin and Charlie entered the room.

"Hey, guys! Finish wrapping?" Dean asked as he searched for the rest of his ingredients. Charlie shook her head and thrust a thumb back towards Kevin.

"Tran used up all our tape. Got any more?"

"Here," Sam shouted, tossing a roll of tape from the drawer he was searching through. A pack of candles was in his other hand. Charlie caught the roll in hand and then handed it off to Kevin.

"Thanks guys," Kevin sighed with relief. "Hey, when is Bobby going to be back with the angels?" Dean and Sam both glanced towards the clock. The angels had gone to visit Samandriel for a few hours while everyone else prepared for the party. Bobby had gone to Little Caesars to get pizzas and was supposed to bring the angels back when on his way home.

"Like a half hour or something," Dean hummed. "Better get going, yeah?" Charlie and Kevin both nodded, turning on their heels and quickly rushing to finish wrapping. Dean turned back to his frosting ingredients, Sammy by his side. Since he had found the candles he could finally focus on helping with the food. "Lets do this!" Dean shouted, pouring the ingredients into the bowl and tossing his brother a mixing spoon. Sam's grin widened and he joined his brother in attacking the frosting mix.

The clock was ticking.

"They're here!" Charlie yelled, rushing away from the window and almost tripping over a sleeping Custos. Sam and Dean quickly finished up with the cake and rushed into the hall to meet Charlie and Kevin.

"Is everything ready?" Sam asked, glancing around. The other three nodded, freezing when they noticed the door handle beginning to twist. Dean quickly flicked off the lights and they all grew silent.

"Damn idgits! Why's the light off!" Bobby shouted, playing along with the surprise. There was a click of fingers as the angels used their grace to turn on the lights and light flooded the hall.

"SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" everyone screamed as the light filled the house. The angels stood frozen, shock written all over their faces.

"B...birthday?" Balthazar stuttered with shock.

"We...we don't…"

"Well, you do now," Dean said, interrupting Castiel before the angel could say more. "It's been exactly a year since you guys got hit with that spell. What better day to celebrate?"

"Is there cake?" Gabe asked, slowly starting to inch out of his own shock. Dean nodded.

"Yep. We've got pizzas and presents too," Dean added. All three angels' eyes lit up and the group led the angels into the living room where the large stack of presents rested in the middle of the room. The angel lunged into the boxes, wide smiles on their faces and giggles bubbling past their lips. All the noise woke Custos from his nap and the hellhound puppy joined the angels in the large pile. Dean and Sam whipped out their phones and crouched down in front of the angels.

"Okay, start ripping!" they shouted, clicking their phones in order to capture as many pictures as they could as the presents were torn into.

"You're going to blind them if you take that many," Bobby muttered, watching the hunters as the angels picked witch boxes to open first.

"It's their boys' first birthday, Bobby! If they don't fill an entire album full of 1st Birthday pictures they're not doing their job," Charlie chuckled. Kevin let out a pained moan.

"Ugh...yeah, my mom's just the same," Kevin grumbled taking a piece of pizza from the abandoned boxes Bobby had dropped on the large coffee table. "She's like that with every birthday though."

"Dwean, I can't untie the ribbon," Cas muttered, lifting up a present with bright blue wrapping paper and a gold ribbon tied tightly to it. Dean grinned and reached over, snapping the ribbon with a hard tug. "Thank you." Dean nodded and waved at the angel as he readied his camera again, motioning for the angel to go ahead. Cas tore into the paper, revealing a pair of footie pajamas with bee prints all over them. Cas grinned widely and Dean quickly snapped at least ten pictures. Balthazar was the next to find one. He tore it open to find a replica of the titanic with little buttons on it that played that god awful Celine Dion song. Balthazar frown at first, but then an evil grin slowly inched across his face.

"Oh, now I get to sink it all the time," he said evilly. Sam made sure to snap a picture.

"Yeah, just don't minimizing us onto it alright?" he warned the angel. Balthazar's evil grin grew wider and Dean quickly turned the attention to Gabriel. The angel was shaking a large tube-like present.

"Oh! Gabe's turn!" Dean shouted, getting Balthy's mind off of whatever evil ideas that were popping into his head. Gabe tore into the present after a moment, eyes almost popping out of his head when he was met with a container filled with hundreds of multicolored gumballs.

"You will be brushing three times a day if you even look at that, understand?" Sam grumbled as he snapped a handful of pictures. Gabe frowned at Sam and Dean nudged his brother.

"Awe, Sammy, it's his birthday! He can eat as much as he…" Sam shot Dean bitchface bazillion. "Uh...nevermind. Gabe, don't forget to brush," Dean muttered. A whip noise sounded from somewhere and Dean turned around to give whoever it was a stern glare, but stopped on noticing Balthazar was slapping an Indiana Jones whip with action noises at him. Balthazar winked in his direction, posing for a picture for Sam before quickly jumping back into the pile of presents with his brothers.

When the presents were all open Bobby, Kevin, and Sam were each on box opening duty while Charlie was on battery duty. The angels had gotten several toys and a few new clothes. Cas had somehow found the time to wiggle into his new bee pajamas and the three were running around the living room with Custos, shooting at each other with their new Nerf Guns. Dean peaked into the room, drinking in the happiness radiating off of everyone. If you would have told the hunter that one day he'd be hosting a birthday party for three of his closest family members he would have laughed. Hunters don't get to do things like that. They hunt. That's all. Birthday parties and family was just some stupid fairy tale. Yet, here he was living with and providing for a family of three humans, a prophet, three angels, and a hell hound. Dean never felt more happy.

"Happy birthday to you!" the hunter sang while entering the room with the angels' cake. The angels stopped running and their eyes widened at the sight of the large cake. Everyone quickly joined in on singing along.

'Happy birthday to you!

Happy birthday Gabe, Balthy, and Caaaaassss!

Happy birthday to youuuuu!'

Custos howled at the last part, completing their song and the angels flew up to hover over their cake. They each blew out the candles at the same time, ignoring the flash of Sam's camera going off. Clapping filled the room as the angels blew out all their candles. Dean set the cake down on the coffee table, pulling a knife from his back pocket while Sam rushed to grab some plates. Dean handed each angel a piece, not waiting for Sam and the angel dug in, smearing frosting and chocolate all over themselves. Dean made sure to get plenty of pictures of that.

"It good?" Dean asked. The angels nodded and jumped the hunter, smearing their gooey hands all over his face. "Ah! Help! Cake monsters!" Dean screamed. Cas tilted his head to the side in confusion, but Dean quickly wiped away the confusion by nibbling at the angel's chocolate covered hand. "Hmmm...maybe I should eat the cake monster!" he shouted, leaning close and blowing air against the angel's belly. Cas squealed, a fit of giggles leaving his lips.

"H….help! Ga..ahahabby! Balthehehey! Heeelp!" Cas cackled.

"Save yourselves!" Gabe shouted, rushing to hide behind Custos. The puppy turned on Gabe, licking at the angel's face. Gabe gasped. "Ah! Custos, you traitor!"

"So are we!" Charlie joined in, grabbing Balthazar before the angel had the time to bolt. Balthazar screeched and tried to pull away, but Charlie kept a firm hold on the angel. Kevin and Bobby made sure to snap the pictures this time.

"You are all dead to me," Sam muttered, tossing the plates to the side as he sat down cross-legged on the floor, pouting as he took in the mess of cake and chocolate. Dean and Charlie shared an evil grin and released their angels, watching as the two jumped onto Sam. "Wha?! No! No, no, no! Stop!" Sam screeched as the angels began smearing their chocolatey hands all over his face. Gabe quickly jumped into action too, plopping down right on top of Sam's head and running his grubby fingers through the long locks. "Ack!" Sam reached out and grabbed one of the couch pillows, slapping it at the archangel and his brothers. The angels giggled and jumped out of the way of the pillow, grabbing their own from the old couch and slapping them against the Winchester and turning the room white with feathers.

Dean put down the new book the angels had gotten for their birthday and looked to the three curled up on his chest. They were still awake, but their eyes were heavy with sleep. Well, a day of partying can do that to you. Dean draped a large arm over the angels protectively and brushed through their soft feathers.

"Did you guys have a good day?" he asked. The angels nodded sleepily.

"Best first B-day ever," Balthazar yawned, nuzzling into Dean's chest.

"Yeah," Gabe agreed, closing his eyes. "I've never had more fun." Dean grinned and turned his gaze towards Castiel. The little angel had crawled up farther on Dean's chest and had his arms wrapped around the hunter's neck.

"How about you, buddy?" Cas cuddled closer, letting out a soft, content hum.

"Can we do it again?" the little angel asked, sleepily. Balthazar and Gabriel both opened their eyes again, watching Dean's reaction. Dean smiled in response, fiddling gently with their feathers.

"Yeah, yeah we can," he answered. The angels closed their eyes again, murmuring soft thank yous before drifting off into peaceful dreams. Dean watched over them, watching the rise and fall of their chests and the rustling of their wings. Yeah, he could do this another year or so.
