Busted Limbs Blues
The plan was stupid, dangerous, and could probably be filed under the list of things that would send Sam into his mother hen rant or Dean into one of his worried daddy mantras. Still, it had to be done according to Balthazar. He needed booze and he needed them now! Sure, he's been learning to turn water into wine and stuff, but that's too much work when the stuff is in the cupboard just above the fridge with four locks fastened to it with enochian carvings.
"You guys ready?" Balthazar questioned. Gabriel and Cas nodded, climbing on top of each other. Cas sat on top of Balthazar's shoulders while Balthazar sat on Gabe. "Let's fly!" Balthazar shouted. The three flapped their wings and the three slowly lifted into the air. It was a bit difficult at first, but they figured it out soon enough. Cas reached upwards as they finally reached the alcohol cupboard and grabbed at the locks. He gently turned the nobs, listening as they clicked.
"You almost done, Cas?! You may be 50% feathers, but you don't feel like it!" Balthazar shouted, arms shaking a little with the struggle of holding up his brother for so long. Gabe grunted below him.
"How do ya think I feel? Baby angels my ass. More like baby elephants!"
"Shut it!" Cas shouted down at them. The two shut up and Cas went back to jiggling the locks.
Click!
The door flung open at a wild speed, smacking Cas off of Balthazar and knocking the other two off balance. The angels screamed as they fell to the floor, glass shattering throughout the house when their tiny bodies impacted with the white tiles below them. Balthazar let out a strangled sob as he tried to get up. His leg was on fire and was already starting to change color and swell. He looked over to Gabriel, seeing that the angel didn't look any better. He was cradling his arm, eyes watery as it too began to swell and turn color. The two angels looked to Castiel, seeing the little angel on his back, sobbing.
"Cassie?"
"M…my wing," the angel sobbed, trying to sit up, but the pain flaring in his left wing kept him down. He let out a ragged sob and tears fell steadily down his cheeks. A bark sounded from the other room and suddenly feet could be heard rushing down the stairs. The angels watched as Bobby raced into the room with Custos. His eyes widened when he saw the angels and he quickly knelt by their sides. His hands hovered over their hurt limbs, pulling back when the angels sobbed or flinched away.
"Custos, go find Sam and Dean," Bobby instructed. The hound yapped and disappeared from the room only to return a few minutes later with Sam and Dean on his heels.
"What the hell happened?" Dean questioned, kneeling down next to Bobby with his brother. The older hunter pointed upwards at the booze cabinet and both Dean and Sam forced themselves from face palming. Instead they turned their attention to their angels. Gabe and Balthazar definitely had busted a bone or two judging by the swelling and the color of their limbs. Dean and Sam held the angels while Bobby quickly splinted the bones to keep the angels from moving too much before getting to the hospital. When the brakes were handled with the three hunters moved to a sobbing Castiel. Dean gently lifted Cas up, keeping his hand between the angel's shoulder blades to help with support. "Please don't be broken. Please don't be broken," Dean prayed. He never wanted to deal with a broken wing again after the fiasco with Gabriel. Bobby ran his fingers gently through the feathers and stopped at one of the joints. Everyone held their breath.
"Dislocated," Bobby stated. Oh thank god. Dean pushed Cas down on his belly and gently took the wing in his hand.
"This is going to hurt, buddy," Dean whispered. Cas let out a whimper and Dean tightened his grip on the wing a little more. "On three. One –"
Snap!
Cas screamed, shattering the bottles of alcohol in the cupboard.
"Damn," Balthazar grumbled, but he didn't look too discouraged, probably because he was in too much pain to care. Sam quickly put a splint on Cas' wing and Bobby grabbed the phone.
"What better time to meet our new doctor, huh?" Bobby grumbled, pressing the phone to his ear. The angels moaned in protest, but a glare from Sam and Dean shut them up. If they were in Arizona they wouldn't have to go to an actual doctor. They could go visit Ambriel and have Brittany fix the three up. Instead, they had no choice, but to go to an actual hospital.
Bobby set the phone down once he was finished and turned back to the group.
"Doctor Splinter's expecting you five. Better get moving," Bobby stated, looking towards the alcohol leaking from the cupboard. "Custos, you go wake up Kevin and Charlie. We've got some cleaning to do." The little puppy yapped and bounded out of the room, licking each angel's face before he left.
"Dr. Splinter?" Dean questioned. "Damn, couldn't the guy have changed his name or something? What kind of doctor name is that?"
"Let's just hope he can fix a broken arm and leg," Sam commented as he gently lifted Balthazar and Gabriel. Dean lifted Cas, carefully wrapping the angel's trench coat over the angel to hide his fluffy black wings.
Dr. Splinter had to be the weirdest doctor Dean and Sam had ever seen. They kind of started wishing they still had their old doctor. Dr. Splinter had a long pointed nose that reminded the hunters of a penguin beak. His eyes were wide and an alarming shade of a scummy green and his smile reminded the hunters of some nutty professor. Plus, he talked like he was still living in the 80's.
"All done!" Dr. Splinter shouted as he finished the angel's casts. The nurses cleared away the x-rays and one handed Dean a few prescription drugs to help with the pain. Sam and Dean pulled the two angels into their arms and Dr. Splinter discussed everything they needed to know about cast care, pain killers, the gift shop down the hall, and all that mush. Dean and Sam kept nodding, wishing that the doctor would hurry up so they could leave. Cas was sitting in a chair, looking a little pale from the pain in his wing. The little guy and his brothers were in the need of a handful of painkillers.
"Doc, are we done here? We'd like to get our kids home," Dean interrupted the doctor at last. The doctor stopped rambling about all the 'rad' and 'to the max' stickers in the gift shop the angels could decorate their casts with and glanced at his watch.
"Whoops! Sorry for 'wiggin' out on you boys. According to my granddaughter I do it all the time. She actually threatened to duct tape my mouth shut and ship me to China!" Dean rolled his eyes, irritation bubbling in his veins.
"Dude, that's 'heavy'," Dean mocked. Sam frowned at Dean's word choice, sending a bitchface towards his brother.
"Weight has nothing to do with it, Dwean," Cas mumbled irritably from his chair. Sam rolled his eyes, completely done with his brother and the angels.
"The hell, Cas?! Did you just?" Maybe Cas was starting to understand pop culture better at last?
Castiel gazed at the hunter, head tilting to the side slightly.
"I don't understand. What did I just?" Cas questioned, brows furrowing slightly. Dean walked over to the angel and picked him up carefully, sliding the angel in his arms next to Gabriel.
"We're having a Back to the Future marathon when we get home," Dean told the angel before looking back to the Doctor. "Well, thanks, Doc, see you later!" With that Dean rushed out of the room with Sam right behind him with Balthazar. The two sighed in relief to be free of the strange doctor.
"Dwean?"
"Yeah, Cas?" Dean sighed. Cas shifted in Dean's arms and pointed at a the gift shop just ahead of them. Dean rolled his eyes. Of course. Reluctantly, the two brothers took a detour on their way out and stopped at the gift shop, buying cast stickers and a few stuffed animals the angels refused to leave without.
"They're get well presents, Dean-o," Gabriel had said while grabbing onto a small teddy.
"Don't you want us to get well?" Balthazar had joined in, smirking at the hunter as he wrapped his tiny fingers around the ears of a stuffed rabbit and pulled the toy into his arms. Dean had grudgingly paid for them when Sam made no move to. Why was he always the one to get suckered into this stuff?
When they were back on the road again the angels were in the back, sitting on the spare blankets they kept in the Impala.
"Urg! Why does this thing itch so much?!" Balthazar growled, scratching at his cast only to wince at the pressure put on his busted limb.
"I think I need more painkillers," Gabriel muttered also. Dean rolled his eyes and turned up the radio. Blues was playing on the station. It was Aint Nobody's Business and Dean suddenly started laughing as he listened. The angels looked at him as if he were mad. Even Sam looked slightly weirded out. It wasn't really a funny song. Dean started singing along with the music, but changed the lyrics as he went.
"There ain't nothing they can do, or nothing they can say
Some nasty parents just won't give me my beer
But I'm gonna get it anyway,
And I don't care if I fall and break my rear."
"You think you're so funny don't you, Winchester?" Balthazar huffed, looking at Dean in the mirror. Dean grinned back at Balthazar through the pane of glass.
"I think I'm downright adorable, but yeah, I think I'm funny too." Balthazar scoffed and tossed a gum wrapper from Gabriel's side of the seat at the back of the hunter's head. "You're full of it."
"Oh come on! Sing along, boys!" Dean shouted, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel as he made up another lyric that made fun of the three in the back. Balthazar and Gabriel glared at the back of the hunter's head, eyes widening when they heard another voice join in with the hunter. They both turned to their right, watching as Cas sang happily next to them.
"Castiel, you little traitor," Gabriel grumbled. Cas smiled innocently at his brothers.
"It's catchy, is it not?" Neither angel could argue with him there. The two joined their brother and the older Winchester in song without hesitation. They mimicked the voice on the radio and Balthazar even pretended to play a few jazz instruments. Sam sat silently in the passenger seat, his big hand stifling his laughter as his other hand held the record button on his phone.
