Luci's Tree-house

Jody fiddled with the cap of a jug of chocolate milk with one hand as she used the other to hold Lucifer. She was also using her shoulder to keep the phone she was talking into propped up too. Usually she would have saved herself the hassle and set the phone down, but this wasn't some ordinary phone call. Sam had called to give Jody her daily update on how Cas and the others were doing. As always, there was no change. Cas was still asleep and the others were still greatly upset by the lack of another set of wings fluttering in the house. It broke Jody's heart to hear about the gang finding Gabe and Balthazar curled up around Cas or the two just lazing around, not knowing what to do. That's why she was going to make a suggestion and force Sam to allow it whether he liked it or not.

"Bring those two over for a play-date Sam. They need to get out of that house and maybe having someone to play with will make things at least a little easier," Jody said into the phone while pouring some chocolate milk into Luci's sippy-cup. The angel in her arms was bouncing excitedly, making it super difficult to keep the milk from spilling.

"You sure, Jody?" Sam's voice crackled on the other end.

"You bet'cha. Anyways. Luce and I have a bit of a surprise for them," she stated, struggling to put the cover to Lucifer's cup back on.

"Thanks, Jody." The phone went dead then and Jody set it down on the counter and adjusted her hold on Lucifer. When the baby angel was settled she handed over the filled sippy cup and walked back outside.

"How's it going, Alex?!" Jody shouted upwards. Alex poked her head out from behind a series of boards. The girl gave her adopted mother a thumps up before spinning her hammer in hand and going back to smacking in nails.

They had started working on a tree-house a couple of days ago. The idea had been Alex's. A few days ago she had run into pictures online of a couple treehouses and thought it would be the perfect project for them.

Jody set Lucifer down by the tree's trunk and handed him a plastic hammer so he could 'help' too. Then, Jody climbed up the rope ladder she had made and crawled up next to Alex. The teen was working on the last wall of the house, drilling in boards where there were gaping holes. Jody grabbed herself a drill and a plank of wood, deciding they were just about ready to put on the ceiling. A tiny cry stopped her in her tracks though. Jody turned, finding Alex looking over the edge of the treehouse by the base of the tree. Jody rushed over to see what had happened only to find Lucifer glaring up at her and Alex.

"What's that matter, little bro?" Alex called down to the angel. Lucifer held up his hammer and pointed a chubby finger at the drill in Jody's hand.

"I wanna dwilly too!" he yelled. Both Alex and Jody broke into grins over his cute, little babbling.

"Sorry, buddy, but we only have two," Alex shouted down at the angel. Lucifer's face instantly fell in disappointment. "But the hammer is way better!" Alex added hurriedly so not to upset her adopted brother. Lucifer looked at her with his big eyes.

"Weally?" he sniffled, making both ladies' hearts tug.

"Yeah! Remember that movie we watched last night? Thor! He had a special hammer!" Lucifer looked down at the tiny hammer in his hand in awe. The little angel shook the hammer a little then and suddenly smacked the tree, letting out a Thor worthy yell as he did so. When the hammer smacked the bark of the tree, both Alex and Jody rocked to side to side, yelping like the force of the hammer had shook the entire tree. Lucifer's eyes brightened at his new found discovery about the hammer and he hit the tree again and again. Alex and Jody shook and shouted with each hit, laughing just as hard as their angel.

The rumbling of a Chevy Impala quieted the three from their laughter and Jody hurried down the tree-house and to the other side of the house to meet the team.

Sam was holding the door open for Gabriel and Balthazar when Jody reached them and Dean was in the driver's seat, fingers tapping lightly to Metallica. Jody gave the four a huge smile and they each gave her one back.

"Lucifer's in the back boys," Jody told Balthazar and Gabriel. "He's got a surprise for you." Excited expression blew up across the two angels' faces and they each made a mad dash towards the backyard. The Winchester's watched them go until they were completely out of sight before finally turning their attention onto Jody.

"Thanks for taking them," Sam said, giving her a hug. Jody patted the taller Winchester on the back as she held him.

"It's no trouble," she reassured, noticing how tired the man sounded. "How are the rest of you holding up?"

"As good as we can," Dean sighed, turning down his music a little and reaching through the window with one arm to give her a half hug. He was paler than the last time she saw him and a lot scrawnier too. Jody made a mental note to bake up a casserole for the angels to take home later. That would fatten him up!

"It's hard, boys…"Jody whispered, her mind drifting from the angels to a different little boy. "...believe me when I say that I know." She thought briefly back to her own son after he died. She remembered the pain, the depression, the...

Jody shook off herself, pulling out of the pit of thoughts the memory created. "You sure you don't want to stay and help with the surprise?" she asked, quickly changing the subject. Both Sam and Dean shook their heads.

"No, sorry, Jody. Its laundry day," Dean said, groaning out the last part. Sam sent him a glare.

"Well, if we didn't leave doing the laundry until we don't have any clothes left it wouldn't be such a hassle," Sam grumbled, crossing his arms.

Jody laughed at the two's bickering and took a step back from the Impala.

"I better get back to those yahoos and let you two get back to your laundry," Jody chuckled. "I'll see you later." Both Sam and Dean nodded and Sam got back into the Impala. They both gave Jody a quick wave before Dean stomped on the gas and left only dust behind. Jody turned her back on the Impala and walked back around the house, finding Gabriel and Balthazar seated by the tree trunk with Lucifer. The baby was babbling excitedly to them, waving his hammer around animatedly while he talked. "So how do you like the surprise?" Jody questioned. Both Gabriel and Balthazar looked to her with wide smiles.

"It's awesome!" Gabriel cheered, popping up and running up to Jody to hug her leg tightly. "Can we help finish it?" Jody grinned at him, picking him up and tossing him over her shoulder.

"What else are you supposed to do?" she questioned, carrying Gabriel over to the tree house again. She handed him a real hammer and then gave Balthazar a container of nails. "Don't tell mama and papa bear I gave you those," she warned. Both boys crossed their hearts and Jody set a handful of planks by their feet.

"You two can help Luce put the board steps on the trunk," she told them. The angels nodded and rushed to the trunk with their tools.

"Hey, baby bro, hold this right here, okay?" Gabriel asked Lucifer. The angel crawled closer to the tree trunk and stretched onto his knees so he could reach the board Balthazar was currently holding there. When Lucifer had a tight enough hold over it, Balthazar let go and held a nail in place for Gabe. Gabe twirled the hammer between his fingers once or twice before it suddenly left his hands and started to lightly tap against the nail until it was completely in. Lucifer's eyes widened and he pulled one hand back from the board and lifted his own hammer.

"Mwe too!" he shrieked. Balthazar looked towards his little brother and grinned. He clicked his fingers together with his free hand and a nail hovered out of the box Jody had given him. It floated over to a space on the board and waited patiently to be dealt with.

"Okay, Luci, do what Gabe did," the angel instructed. Lucifer nodded and with a mighty shout, he threw the hammer into the air at the nail hanging on its own parallel to the other nail. Gabe clicked his own fingers and Lucifer's plastic hammer began to smack the nail into the wood. Lucifer clapped his hands together, giggling and squealing loudly with excitement.

Alex and Jody watched them from above silently.

"Damn. I wish I had angel powers," Alex huffed as she watched the three. Jody laughed and turned back to the board they had been trying to make the roof.

"Powers are cool and all, but we'll finish the roof first before they finish the steps with our sheer strength and bronze, right?!" Jody called, looking back over her shoulder at her adopted daughter. Alex was giving her that raised eyebrow look all teens use specially for their parents when they say something crazy.

"Sure, whatever you say," Alex huffed, rolling her eyes. She leant out the window then, looking down at the angels. "Hey, boys! Could use your Thor powers on our drills!" she shouted.

"Alex!" Jody shouted disapprovingly. There was the sound of clicking fingers suddenly and both Jody's and Alex's drills flew into the air. The board for the roof shimmed in line too without Jody even touching it. Jody crossed her arms and raised a brow at her daughter. "Cheater." Alex shrugged and then reached into her bag, pulling out some curtains and little shelves.

"Let's get this place looking cool!"

Jody and Alex climbed down the rope ladder to the ground and stepped back from the tree house. Balthazar and Gabriel flew to their side, looking up at the house themselves. In the center was a wide door with a window on either side of it. There was also one window each on the other walls too with purple curtains. Beneath the windows were little flower boxes Alex had made and filled with dirt and flower seeds. The rope ladder and the planks Gabriel, Balthazar, and Lucifer had nailed to the tree trunk were the only ways of getting in or out.

"I think it's done, boys," Jody said triumphantly, giving Alex a high five. The angels didn't share in their enthusiasm. Instead, both Balthazar and Gabriel stepped forward, looking over the house critically.

"It needs a little angelic touch," Balthazar added, a strange gleam suddenly glinting in his eye. Jody raised a brow in confusion, but before she could ask any questions, both Balthazar and Gabriel snapped their fingers together. Grace twirled around the tree house and enochian letter carved themselves above the door. Both Alex and Jody turned their heads far to the left, trying to read the strange markings.

"What's it say?" Alex asked, her head practically turned all the way around as she stared at the letters. Lucifer bounced up and down in Gabriel's arms, red and pink wings flapping happily.

"Wucy's T-ous!" Lucifer cried triumphantly. Gabriel ruffled Lucifer's hair.

"That's right…" Gabriel chuckled. "…Luci's tree-house."
