Bumble Bees Don't Like Hunters

Dean opened his eyes, stretching his limbs out as he sat up on the couch. His hair was tousled from rolling around in his sleep and his vision was slightly foggy. Cas' trench coat was wrapped around his waist, but there was no angel in sight. The hunter looked around, searching for the little angel, but he couldn't see Cas anywhere. He could hear him though. Dean slowly got up, creeping over to the window and peering out of it. The giggling was louder now and Dean could see tuffs of black feathers in the distance. The hunter grinned, taking the trench coat in hand and rushing out the door after the angel. It didn't take long for the hunter to reach his angel and soon Dean had Cas scooped into his arms. The angel giggled loudly and squirmed in Dean's hold as the hunter squeezed him.

"What're you doing, buddy?" Dean asked the little angel. Cas spun around in Dean's arms, face split in two by his wide smile.

"Hunting," the angel said proudly. Dean raised a brow at the angel and Cas waved a hand at the flowers surrounding them. There were white ones, blue ones, and pretty buttercups. Sitting on the flowers though were plump bumble bees. "You wanna help?" Cas asked, giving Dean the biggest blue eyed puppy dog look he could muster. Dean set Cas down by his feat.

"Alright, kiddo, lets hunt some bumblers," Dean chuckled. Cas cheered and raced farther into the field of flowers, following the bees as they flew from flower to flower. Dean trailed after him, Cas' trench coat thrown over his left shoulder.

"Dwean, look!" Cas shouted suddenly. Dean's eyes followed Cas finger to a tree with a large hive attached to a branch. Dean reached out for the angel's hand.

"Cas we better not…" Cas scurried away from Dean, bolting right for the hive. Dean cried out in frustration and bolted after Cas, but the little angel had gotten a head start. He watched as Cas flapped his wings. Thank God his baby feathers haven't grown out yet. "Cas!" Dean shouted, but Cas ignored him and began to climb the tree instead of flying up it. Dean ran faster, pumping his arms hard as he tried to reach his angel. Cas was sitting on the branch holding the hive now and was reaching out towards it. Dean lunged, grabbing Cas from the branch, but also disturbing the hive. Bees angrily flew from their hive, surrounding both Dean and Cas. Dean grabbed the trench coat from its place over his shoulder and covered the both of them with it in attempt to hold back the bees and their stingers. Dean looked down towards his knees, expecting to find a terrified Castiel, but instead he was met with a giggly smile. Cas was sitting by Dean's knees with four bees buzzing softly around his hand. Dean raised a brow at the angel and Cas grinned at the hunter.

"Look, Dwean! They like me!" Cas cheered. Dean pulled the trench coat tighter around them.

"That….that's great, Cas, but uh…they don't really like me, buddy, so could you…" Cas pulled back one flap of the trench coat, not waiting for Dean to finish and was instantly swallowed by the a cloud of black and yellow. Dean called out in horror and finally pushed himself out of the confines of the coat to reach his angel. He prepared himself for harsh stinging and the angry buzzing of bees, but instead he was greeted by Castiel's friendly giggle once again. Dean looked around himself, finding that the bees had calmed and were either resting on flowers, back in the hive, or fluttering around Cas.

Dean sighed in relief and eased himself from his knees onto his backside. He reached out towards a bee flying around him only to feel a sharp pain run threw his finger. Dean gasped, pulling back from the bee and holding his hand gently. He looked at the red lump on his finger, noticing a stinger was sticking out of the wound. Dean grimaced as he tugged on it until it came free. Bees really didn't like him. Gentle, tiny hands took his then and Cas gently kissed at the sore. Dean smiled at Castiel and ruffled the angel's hair thankfully before waving at the tiny cloud of bees waiting patiently for the angel to return. Dean didn't know what Cas and the tiny creatures talked about when together, but he guessed it was something to do with their favorite food. Honey.

The hunter watched Castiel whisper to the bees for a few moments and then looked over the field to where Singer Salvage sat. Bobby was outside, working on a few cars while Balthazar and Gabriel played tag around his feet. Sam was sitting by the front door of Bobby's house, book in hand. Everything was so peaceful.

Stretching lazily, Dean fell backwards and sprawled out on his back against the soft grass. He closed his eyes, relishing in the warmth of the sun and pulled the trench coat over him like a blanket. He heard the pitter patter of tiny feet and soon Dean felt a tiny body scoot close to him. Cas. The little angel nuzzled close to Dean's head so Dean's ear was pressed to the angel's chest. Dean reached a hand up and stroked Cas' wings gently, tickling the feathers every moment or two. He could hear the soft ba-bum of Cas' heart through the thin material of Cas' shirt and Dean cherished each of the little beats as they lulled him to sleep.

Dean opened his eyes slowly, a small smile on his face. He snuggled closer to the little body snuggled against his face, listening for the ba-bum of the angel's heart. Instead of the sound of a soft thump, he was hit with the horrid beep of a machine. The smile fell from Dean's face and he closed his eyes again. He tried to force out the beep of the machine and go back to listening to Castiel's heart, pretending that he really was sitting in a field with the angel, but the heart monitor beeping in reality was stronger and louder than Castiel's heart in Dean's dreams.

A knock on the door blocked the heavy truth for a brief moment. Dean opened his eyes and sat up, looking to the door as it opened slowly. Sam stepped through and tossed a badge at his brother. Dean caught it and looked over the FBI badge he'd made himself.

"We've got a case about two towns over. Bobby and the kids are staying home and I need my partner," Sam said with a sheepish smile, hesitantly glancing between the badge in Dean's hands and Cas sleeping beneath the blankets.

"What is it?" he questioned. Sam shrugged.

"I'm pretty sure it's a Djinn, but you never know with us," Sam stated before looking over his brother again. "I'll meet you in the Impala," he added, turning his back and closing the door behind him.

Dean settled back into place next to Cas, his fingers brushing lightly through Cas' hair.

"I'll be right back, Cas," Dean whispered to the angel. "Just…" Dean trailed off, sucking in a deep breath in attempt to hold back the tears building in his eyes. "…please be here when I do?" He received no answer. Wiping his eyes, Dean sat back up again and got off the bed. He threw another blanket over Cas' small frame and walked to the door. As he exited Custos walked in, giving him a happy yap before jumping up on the bed with Cas. Dean smiled at the two before closing the door and disappeared down the stairs.
