Meta Babysitters
Jared and Jensen poked around in Misha's trailer, bucket of fish by their feet.
"This is disgusting," Jensen gagged, picking up a fish and hiding it under Misha's bed. "You do this to me and I'll kick your ass." Jared chuckled and put a few fish under the sink.
They were having another one of their prank wars. Misha was in makeup, getting ready for the big dream shot for their next episode. In other words, it was a great time to act on their plot against the other actor. Misha had seemed a bit down lately. When they were reading over their scripts he'd clutch at the scrip, bruising it and crinkling the paper until somebody called him back from whatever world he was in. Well, the guys knew exactly where Misha's head was. Supernatural. They'd all been shocked when they read their scripts. They even went to the writers about it.
"You really want to torture baby angels?"
There was nothing to be done though. It stayed in the script and now they were left to worry if the angels were alright or not. Jensen doubted dead fish was going to change Misha's mood, but Jared had said pranking would distract him from the fate of the angels at least for a little while.
Jared grabbed hold of a handful of fish to throw in Misha's cabinet, freezing when he noticed something dangling from a hook on the wall. He set the fish down and looked at the pendant, eyes widening.
"I thought Mish got rid of this thing?" Jensen put down the fish he was messing with and rushed to Jared's side, eyes widening at the sight of the pendant that led them back and forth between their two universes. Jensen grabbed at it.
"Let's torch this thing-" Jared pulled the pendant back. "What…"
"Don't you want to know if they're okay?" Jensen lowered his hand, staring at the pendant. Yeah, he did.
"What are we going to do?!" Jensen and Jared opened their eyes on hearing the voice, finding that they were no longer in Misha's trailer. The voice from when they first arrived shouted again. Jensen froze when he recognized it as his own. He glanced towards Jared as they slowly stood up in a living room exactly like the one on their sets. "We can't leave them, but Cas is still recovering and…"
"We need everyone for this job," Bobby's voice whispered. "Crowley's got the deadly sins on his side. We'd be overpowered if we split up. Kali's keeping an eye on the demons, but she'll need our help."
Jared took a step forward, boards creaking under his feet. He froze and silence filled the room. Jensen glared at the moose, but his glare fell instantly when a muzzle of a gun appeared right between his eyes and an invisible dog growled from somewhere close by.
"Uh, we come in peace?" Jared tried, holding up his hands in surrender. Dean lowered his gun from Jensen's face, realization crossing his face.
"You again? I thought that Misha guy and that girl got rid of that damn pendant?" the hunter grumbled. He didn't look anything like Jensen had imagined. Sure they were identical and all, but this Dean had dark shadows under his eyes and looked like he hadn't eaten in a while. Sam looked just as weary too.
"Dean, I've got an idea," Charlie gasped, smiling between the two actors. Dean looked to her, eyes suddenly widening.
"No way!"
"Dean, we need a babysitter!" Charlie shouted. Dean quieted and glanced at the two actors in the corner of his eye. A battle seemed to be going on behind the hunter's eyes. They grew darker and lighter, making him suddenly look a few years older.
"Fine," Dean muttered, fight seeming to drain out of him. Charlie nodded.
"That's that then. We'll get packed. You take them upstairs," Charlie said before turning on her heals. The others followed, waving a quick goodbye before leaving the two actors alone with Dean and a hellhound. Dean sighed and rubbed at the back of his neck before looking at something by his feet. He waved a hand at the empty air and started towards the stairs. Jensen and Jared followed silently, eyes flicking around the house. There were pictures of the odd family on the walls, some hiding secret compartments for weapons and others just there for decoration. When they came to the angels' bedroom Dean gently pushed it open, peaking in first before walking in. Jared and Jensen stayed by the door, watching as Dean knelt down by the bed. The baby versions of Gabriel and Balthazar were on the bed, reading a graphic novel called Amulet (really fitting). Curled up in the blankets next to them was Castiel. The angel's wings were lying lazily behind him, flicking every so often as he dreamed. Cas was thin and had dark shadows beneath his own eyes, but there was color on his cheeks and a soft smile on his face. Gabriel and Balthazar looked up from their book when Custos licked at their feet, eyes widening at the sight of the two actors. They waved excitedly, but remained quiet.
"Cas?" Dean whispered, fingers brushing from the angel's dark hair to his even darker wings. The angel stirred, eyes opening slowly.
"Hello, Dwean," the angel yawned, stretching his wings and arms out before slowly pushing himself into a sitting position.
"We got a lead on where Crowley took your brothers and sisters," Dean began, treading lightly as he made eye contact with each of the angels. "Jensen and Padaleggy-"
"Padalecki!" Jared interrupted, Jensen swatting at his arms to shut him up quickly after.
"...are going to watch over you guys for a little bit okay?" Dean continued. The angels were silent for a moment before Cas finally curled back up in his blanket and smiled at the hunter.
"Okays," Cas hummed, nuzzling into his pillow. Dean's muscles relaxed.
"We'll be okay," Gabriel whispered, setting down the book he and Balthazar had been reading.
"Yeah, be safe," Balthazar chimed in. Dean nodded and looked back down at the angel curled up on the bed.
"Love ya, Buddy." He patted Cas' head and then hugged both Gabe and Balthazar. "Love you too, Boys," Dean whispered, still petting the Cas' hair gently as he gave the other two a one handed hug. Jared cleared his throat.
"Destiel," he coughed. Jensen swung a glare at his coworker while Dean slowly pulled away from the bed, looking to the two actors. Jared slapped off the smug look on his face and Jensen turned back around again.
"We'll call if anything comes up. Custos will be here with you too so you should have some protection if any demons show up. Otherwise there are guns hidden around the house." Dean paused for a second. "You do know how to shoot a gun, yeah?" Jensen and Jared rolled their eyes.
"We're actors, man. Not idiots." Dean gave them both a look before turning his back and exiting the room, stopping only once to get a good last look of the three angels.
"I am so telling the guys to write more funny episodes. This is just depressing," Jensen huffed. Jared nodded in agreement, muttering something about Meta episodes while Jensen made his way to the bed holding all three angels. He looked them each over carefully, smiling when Balthazar and Gabriel gazed at him over their book. "Hey, guys," Jensen whispered softly, glancing towards the sleeping angel on the bed every few seconds. Balthazar and Gabriel each waved at him, pressing their fingers to their lips before slowly sliding off of the bed and onto the floor. The two waved at the hunters to follow them and both Jensen and Jared did just that. They made their way back downstairs and seated themselves on the couch.
"That's better," Gabriel sighed, stretching his wings. He looked to the two actors. "Sorry about that, but he got really worn out with all the exercises Sam made him do earlier."
"Yeah, and Cassie deserves a long nap after all those stupid stretches…" Balthazar paused. "Well, not too long of a nap." Balthazar glanced between the two hunters and frowned at them. "What's up? You two've been pretty quiet." Jared and Jensen both just smiled.
"We're…just glad you guys are doing alright," Jensen admitted.
"Yeah, the script for our latest episode…well, it was nothing good," Jared stated, voice slowly falling to a whisper. The angels flinched.
"No…no it wasn't," Gabriel shivered.
"But we're better now –"
"BALTHY! GABBY!" Castiel screamed from his room. They spoke too soon.
Both angels paled and jumped over the top of the couch, skidding towards the stairs and bolting up the stairs. Jensen and Jared chased after them, hearts pounding in their chests. Was Castiel having a nightmare? Had someone broken in?
Balthazar and Gabriel kicked the door in with a burst of grace. Castiel hovered mid-air, draped in blue Star Trek pajamas and his trench coat. The angel grinned at them and raised his arms.
"I'm hungry!" the angel shouted. Balthazar and Gabriel scowled at their little brother.
"Seriously?! Kiddo, you nearly gave us all heart attacks!" Gabriel sputtered. Cas tilted his head to the side, genuinely looking confused.
"How could me being hungry give your hearts trouble in –"
"Just…!" Gabriel took a deep breath, calming himself. "…just hop back in bed and Samquatch's and Dean-o's look alikes will whip up some oatmeal." Cas scowled, looking slightly green for a moment.
"Ick! No more oatmeal!" he gagged. "I want wuffles!" Gabriel rolled his eyes and nodded. Cas' eyes glittered happily. "And I wanna help!" he added. Gabriel's frown returned and opened his mouth to say no, but Balthazar was already gathering his baby brother up into his arms from Custos' back.
"Alright, Cassie, let's go," Balthazar said, carrying his brother from the room with Custos right at his side. Gabriel's mouth dropped.
"Balthazar!"
"He's sick, Gabe. Sick people are supposed to get what they want!" Balthazar shouted on his way down the hall to the stairs. Gabriel huffed and crossed his arms over his chest.
"The kid aint sick. He's recuperating," the archangel muttered. Jared laughed at the pouty angel and scooped Gabe up like how Sam would.
"Same difference," Jared stated. He glanced towards Jensen. "Ready to make our angels waffles?" Jensen grinned and nodded, following Jared and Gabre out of the bedroom.
Balthazar was already throwing stuff into the mixing bowl by the time the other three caught up. Castiel was seated on the counter with Balthazar wearing an apron with Winnie the Pooh surrounded by bees on the front. In his hands was the waffle mix box and the little angel was squinting at the small print carefully as he read off the instructions. Gabriel fluttered from Jared's hold and flew to one of the drawers, pulling out aprons for everyone. Jensen got Dean's 'Kiss the Cook' apron and Jared got Sam's apron with Bullwinkle dressed as a chef on it. Gabe got the "I'm messy but cute' apron. The two actors quickly tied their aprons on and looked to Balthazar.
"So where do you want us chef?" Jensen asked. Balthazar turned, revealing his Iron Man apron.
"We need blueberries and the electric mixer!" Balthazar announced. Both men saluted and marched off in search of the objects.
"Why do I have the feeling this is going to turn out like one of West's 'Cooking Fast and Fresh' episodes?" Jared whispered while opening the fridge. Jensen raised a brow, glancing at the angels as they sloppily dumped an entire carton of waffle mix into the bowl.
"I wonder why," Jensen huffed sarcastically, pulling the mixer from the higher cabinet. It was probably up out of reach for a reason. Jared finished fishing out the berries and followed Jensen back to the angels.
Jensen and Jared stared proudly at the stack of waffles they had made with the angels. They had come out perfectly! Well, the first batch didn't, but Custos didn't seem to mind them when Jensen had given him the entire plate full. The second batch was what deserved a gold star. The waffles were a perfect golden brown with just the right amount of butter and syrup. Jensen carried Castiel over to his chair; the little guy was too tired to move much on his own. He'd used up all his remaining energy on making the waffles. Jared set out the plates, filling each with a huge stack of waffles drenched in syrup. They all dug in and just as both actors were finishing off their first plates the sound of an Impala parking in the garage and Bobby's truck pulling into the driveway pulled them from their thoughts on the masterpieces plated out in front of them.
The door slammed open and everyone flinched, glancing towards the door and completely forgetting about the waffles. The entire Winchester crew had returned, but it didn't look like they had returned with any good news. Their faces were all set in scowls.
"You guys okay?" Jared asked first. Sam glanced at him, shaking his head.
"Bastards somehow knew we were coming and were gone before we even got close. Kali lost all sight of them too." Dean threw his duffle bag onto the floor, eyes still burning with anger.
"I still don't get how they could have known we were coming!" he shouted. "It's not like we posted on Faceplace where we were going!"
"Uh…it's Facebook," Kevin informed the hunter, tossing his own stuff onto the floor before taking a seat next to Balthazar and stealing a waffle from the angel. Balthazar tried to snatch it back, but Kevin had already stuffed into his mouth.
"Whatever," Dean grumbled. "My point still stands."
"Couldn't it have been one of Crowley's spies?" Charlie questioned. Bobby nodded, leaning his back against the door.
"Could've. Crowley's probably got every demon in hell watching us." Dean made to swear again, but stopped when his eyes fell on the three angels with plates stacked with waffles.
"Well, nice of you three to save us some," Dean teased, momentarily forgetting about Crowley, demons, or missing angels. Jensen thrust a thumb towards the oven.
"There's plenty more over there. Apparently dropping an entire box of mix in give you more than what three angels are capable of eating." Dean laughed at that and Cas scowled.
"I can eat them," he stated. Sam huffed.
"Oh no you don't. Not till your next doctor's appointment. You're already eating over the safe limit." Cas rolled his eyes and stuffed another waffle into his mouth.
"I'm fine." Everyone in the room rolled their eyes and Jensen and Jared both stepped forward, pendant dangling from Jared's fingers.
"Guess it's time we get back to our own universe," Jared stated. The room grew silent and both Dean and Sam stepped forward, shaking their hands.
"Thanks for watching them," both brothers stated. Jared and Jensen nodded and gave each angel a quick hug before turning their gaze to the pendant.
"Take care of each other," Jensen ordered the group just as Jared muttered the spell written on the pendant's stone. With a flash of light the two actors were gone.
"What the hell are you two doing to my trailer?!" Misha shouted, bursting through the door, brows creased in a frown. Jensen and Jared whirled around, almost tripping on the fish that had tipped out of the buckets by their feet. They looked around. They were back home. Well, Misha's trailer technically.
Misha cleared his throat, gaining their attention and both Jared and Jensen stared at the other actor. Misha opened his mouth to shout again, but stopped himself. His eyes flicked over the pendant in Jared's hands and both actors could hear his slow swallow. "Well, cat's out of the bag," Misha sighed, body slumping as all the rage washed out of him. He ran a hand through his air, eyes still on the pendant. "I was going to destroy it, but…I couldn't do it, you know?" Both Jensen and Jared nodded and Misha took the pendant back, hanging it up in the cabinet.
"Mish…"
"Hmmm?" Misha hummed, turning his head to glance over his shoulder.
"They're doing alright," Jensen told him. Misha's eyes widened a fraction and he fully turned around looking between the two actors.
"Hey, and you should seriously sign them up as West's next cooking assistants," Jared added, grinning widely. Misha grinned back, his worries washing away. His eyes skimmed over his trailer then and a playful frown crossed his face.
"I've got another idea for a show," Misha announced. "How about 'Trailer Cleaners' featuring J fucking squared?" Jared and Jensen both laughed loudly and bolted for the door.
"Sorry, Mish! We got a show to shoot!" Jensen shouted, slamming the door shut behind him once Jared bounded through. Misha chuckled and glanced back to the pendant. He grinned at the small object and turned back to the mess he called a trailer, covering his nose with one hand. He didn't know whether to be furious or thankful. Misha picked up the tipped over bucket of fish and set it upright. Maybe he was a little of both.
This was so fun to write! Thanks Katie Shimkus [guest] for the request!
