Candy Fixes Everything
"Get off of me!" Gabriel growled, kicking against Sam's chest as the hunter yanked him from the bedroom. "I'm not leaving him! Sam!" Sam stopped walking and pulled Gabriel away from his chest, glaring down at the archangel. Gabe's eyes were bloodshot from spending all night watching Balthazar toss and turn in his sleep. There were also tear stains under his eyes from pleading to his brother all morning to calm down.
"You're getting out of this damn house, Gabe. Balthazar just needs a few minutes alone right now," Sam told him. "He had a bad nightmare the other night, Gabe. The kind that's too real and too damn painful to forget." Gabe lowered his gaze from Sam's, tears building up in his honey eyes again.
"I just want to help," Gabe whispered. "He shouldn't have to be alone." Sam smiled sympathetically at the archangel and pulled Gabe close to his chest again, hugging tight. Gabriel hugged back letting the Winchester comfort him.
"I know, Gabe, but it'll be okay. Remember when you told me Dean had a bad nightmare a few days ago?" Gabriel nodded. "He was pretty shaken, but he's okay now." Gabriel shook his head.
"But we were there with him," Gabe argued, pulling his head up from the hunter's chest. Sam shook his head, and glanced over his shoulder at the closed door where Balthazar was currently hiding out.
"And we will be with him too, but you won't. Gabe, you were with him all night. You need a break." Gabriel didn't say anything; he only stared at the closed door to the bedroom. Sam sighed and started walking down the stairs. "How about a compromise?" Gabriel perked up and Sam felt himself grin. "You and I take a trip to the candy shop in town. You'll get a break and we can bring something back for your brothers. Isn't candy supposed to fix everything?" Gabriel beamed then and bobbed his head happily. Sam grinned back and stepped off the last step before heading to the garage door.
The candy shop was like any other place dentists and health nuts despised. Everything was bright in color and there was enough sugar to hype up an army. Sam couldn't remember the last time he saw Gabriel's eyes get so big. The archangel dashed all around the store, his troubles momentarily forgotten as he smashed his face against the glass cases holding different types of fudge or long strings of taffy. Sam joined him, scooping up the angel when he needed to get a look at the higher shelves and helping in testing out the free samples in little cartons around the store. When a man came out with fresh cupcakes with gumdrops on top of the pile of pink frosting they were coded in Gabriel's eyes grew even larger than before. The archangel dashed to the man, jumping up and down and raising his hands towards the tray of cupcakes. Sam laughed as he watched the angel and young lady in a hot pink suit chose that moment to walk over.
"Are you sure you should be in a candy store, Sir? Your son looks like he's had enough if you don't mind me saying," the girl chuckled shyly. Sam looked her over. A candy-cane colored tie completed her suit along with a mint green bow pinned in her dark hair. An equally bright and colorful nametag sat on her pink suit just above the pocket holding a mint green hanky.
"Oh, trust me…,Elly. When it comes to candy he has no limits." The worker laughed at that and turned her head to watch the angel again. Giving up on trying to nab a cupcake, Gabriel rushed over to the far side of the store. That half of the store was strictly for gum lovers. They had every kind possible; Hubba Bubba Bubble Tape, Bazooka, Juicy Fruit, and Trident just to name a few. Gabriel bypassed all of them and instead rushed to the gumball machine. He fiddled with the coin slot, peaking in and shaking the machine a little. He was searching for forgotten change in hopes of finding a forgotten quarter. Elly chuckled softly and looked back up at Sam.
"Is there anything I can help you find?" she asked. Sam hummed and glanced around the candy shop before waving a hand at Gabriel.
"Hey, Gabe!" he shouted. The angel turned, giving his full attention to Sam and Elly. "You know what you want to get?" Sam asked. Gabriel paused and looked around himself, eyes falling on the small chocolate candies wrapped up in a purple bag. He grabbed two and held them up.
"These!" Gabriel shouted, face split in a wide grin. Elly grinned too.
"Nice choice, kiddo!" she cheered, walking to the cash register. Gabriel followed her and Sam picked him up, setting him on the counter so he could hand over the candies himself. Elly took the bags and scanned them while Sam set a packet of gumballs and two cupcakes for the both of them onto the counter. Gabe's eyes widened and he looked up at the smirking hunter.
"Couldn't let you get left out," Sam stated. Gabriel grinned widely and Elly handed over the bags of candy, gum, and cupcakes.
"You both have a good day," she said cheerily and both Sam and Gabe left the store, doorbell chiming as the door swung shut behind them.
"Do you think they'll like them?" Gabriel asked, looking over the candy carefully as he rode Sam by piggyback to the Impala.
"They'll love it, Gabe." Sam took a big bite of his cupcake then and twisted his neck around until he found Gabriel's face. He kissed Gabriel messily by the corner of the angel's eye fondly. Pink frosting stuck to the angel's brow and some of his hair fell into the pink mess. Sam couldn't keep down his laugh. Gabriel grinned and swiped a finger over the frosting of his own cupcake, reaching up and dabbing it onto the hunter's nose. Sam crossed his eyes in order to see the pink tip on his nose, causing Gabriel to burst into a fit of contagious giggles.
Thanks, Classical E. Centric, for requesting some Sammy and Gabby moments! Elly's outfit is kind of based off of Starkid's Sweet Tooth.
