Last Day
Bella and Meg stood in the kitchen, voices hushed so not to wake the others in the house. It was some ungodly hour, but that hardly bothered the two demons. What bothered them was the topic of their discussion.
"It has to be done, Meg," Bella sighed, drumming her fingers against the table. "Crowley and his goons are looking for you. You don't want to endanger your little unicorn and his brothers do you?"
"Of course not," Meg growled, glaring at Bella with dark eyes. It's just…I've had a bad feeling since we got here." Bella froze.
"So have I," she admitted. "There's…something wrong here." Bella looked around the kitchen like whatever was causing their hair to stick up on end would suddenly show itself. She looked back to Meg, finding her doing the same thing. "That's why you don't want to leave?" Meg shrugged, trying to seem placid, but Bella saw right through it. "They can take care of themselves, Meg. All you can do is keep them out of the shit storm chasing after you." Meg's shoulders slumped.
"Yeah…I know," Meg whispered.
Feet thumped down the steps and the two demons changed their topic of conversation to one of breakfast. Dean emerged from the doorway in his pajamas with three sleepy looking angels lounging in his arms.
"Morning," Dean yawned. Meg and Bella reciprocated the greeting and watched Dean shuffle to the table. He plopped the angles each down into their chairs and then moved on to the cupboards. He pulled out a box of Lucky Charms for Gabriel and Honey Nut Cheerios for Castiel. He then grabbed a few bagels and cream cheese for Balthazar since the angel despised the idea of eating soggy cereal in the morning. Dean got the coffee started and turned around, looking at the two demons tiredly.
"So," he yawned. "What's the plan for today? Weather's supposed to be nice so we could fish at the dock or…"
"We're leaving," Bella blurted. Meg glared at her, smacking the demons upside the head with her hand. Dean and the angels stared at them wide eyed.
"Leaving?" Dean questioned. "You guys just got here."
"Yeah, well…" Bella shrugged and took a seat between Gabriel and Balthazar. "Demons gotta do what she's gotta do," Bella sighed. "All that stuff with Crowley we told you about is still going on. We have to keep going." Everyone was silent and the timer on the coffee machine buzzed. Dean turned his back and poured himself a cup.
"When are you leaving?" Cas asked, directing the question towards Meg. Meg walked over to him, picking him up from his chair. She took over his spot and set him down in her lap, fingers brushing through his feathers.
"Later today," she told him. Cas nodded and forced a smile, pulling the feather from his pocket and handing it over. Meg took it, holding it gently between her fingers.
"That's enough time for fishing, right?" Cas asked, directing the question over his shoulder at Dean. The hunter smiled at the angel.
"Yeah, Buddy," Dean said with a smirk. "I think that's plenty of time."
Meg sat on the dock with Castiel, Balthazar, and Gabriel. The three angels were sunning themselves in the sun's warm rays while they waited. Dean was collecting some worms for them so they could get started on their little fishing match. Kevin and Charlie were in a tangle of fishing line and hooks in the tall grass around the dock. They were supposed to be getting the bobbers and everything hooked up to the lines, but it turned out they were the ones that were getting hooked up. Sam and Bobby were in a paddle boat in the middle of the lake with a net instead of a pole.
Balthazar flexed his wings and glanced back towards the house, frowning.
"Bella's taking a long time getting a bucket," Balthazar huffed. Meg and Cas glanced at the house with him. Bella had walked off about twenty minutes ago in search of a bucket to put their fish in. Balthazar flew off the dock and hovered in the air a little. "I'm gonna help her," the angel told them. Meg and Cas nodded, waving to the angel and Balthazar flew to the house and through the living room window that was still open. Bella was standing by the fireplace when Balthazar flew in. She was looking around with a frown creasing her brow.
"The buckets are in the closet by the kitchen," Balthazar told her, flying onto Bella's shoulder. Bella turned her head a little so black eyes could meet blue.
"Well, that would've been nice to know twenty minutes ago," Bella huffed, walking out of the living room and into the kitchen. Balthazar pointed at the closet next to the microwave and Bella walked over, opening it and pulling out a red bucket. She handed the bucket up to the angel on her shoulder and Balthazar took it, flying from her shoulder. Bella watched the angel hover in the air.
"First one to the dock is a pink hellhound."
Woof!
Balthazar and Bella turned, eyes falling on the hellhound puppy that had pattered into the room. Custos stared up at them, wagging his tail and barking again. Balthazar laughed and flew to Custos, getting onto the puppy's back.
"Go!" he shouted. Custos yapped and ran out of the kitchen, skidding down the hall. Bella let out a gasp and chased after them, trying to catch up. Custos glanced back at the demon gaining on him and Balthazar, not watching where he was going and not noticing that the carpet on the floor was flipped slightly at the corner. His paw caught on it and the puppy went tumbling, Balthazar was launched off his back and smacked into the wall bellow the hall window. Bella screeched to a halt, stopping herself from tripping too. Custos slowly picked himself up, whimpering and shaking his head in attempt to shake the ache in his limbs from his fall. A whimper from Balthazar caught both his and Bella's attention. The little angel was sitting on his knees, wings wrapped around himself. Blood was dripping from a cut on his head and fat tears were streaming down his face. The angel let out a soft sob and Bella swore, rushing to the angel's side and pulling him into her arms. Custos waddled to her side, whining softly up at the angel tucked close to her chest.
"Balth, let me see, sweet heart," Bella whispered. "Let me see." Balthazar held his head up, revealing the cut on his head. Bella cursed again and pulled a tissue from her pocket dabbing at the angel's head. When the blood was cleared away she took a look at the cut, sighing in relief when she found that it wasn't stitches worthy. She glanced at Custos by her feet and knelt down, setting the angel down by the puppy. "Be right back, okay?" she whispered. "I'm just going to get the first aid kit." Balthy nodded and Bella rushed back into the kitchen. Custos curled his tail around Balthazar and nuzzled the angel's cheek, whining apologetically. Balthazar wrapped his arms around the hellhound's neck, snuggling close to the puppy. Bella returned then with a package of band aids and alcohol wipes. She knelt down next to the angel and hellhound puppy. "Balthazar? Sweetheart, let's get you cleaned up." Balthy turned his face from Custos' soft fur and Bella dabbed at his wound before putting a Big Hero 6 Band-Aid on it. "Head wounds look worse than they are and they bleed like hell, but…" Bella placed a kiss on the Band-Aid. "…you'll be fine." Balthazar held up his arms to her, hugging her tightly.
"Thank you," he whispered. Bella nodded and pulled back. She nodded towards the doorway.
"Come on. We've got a bucket to deliver, right?" Balthazar nodded, wiping the tears from his eyes and crawling back onto Custos. Bella walked over to the front door and opened it up for the angel and hellhound. Balthazar looked up at her, a smirk suddenly gracing his features and Bella frowned.
"Last one to the dock is a pink hellhound," the angel stated. Bella's eyes widened and Balthazar let out a shout. Custos ran outside then, racing right out the door and towards the dock.
They tied at the dock and made it just in time because Gabriel was reeling in a big one. Dean was at his side, helping the angel and cheering him on.
"You got it, Gabe. Yep, keep going…keeping going –PULL!" Gabriel pulled the fish from the water and everyone cheered as Gabe reeled in a fat blue gill. Dean grabbed at the fish, unhooking it and tossing it in the bucket Balthazar and Bella held out for him. Dean frowned on noticing the Band-Aid on Balthazar's head.
"What happened?" he questioned, voice almost a growl. Bella held up her hands when his eyes fixed on her.
"It was just an accident, Winchester. That carpet in the hall really enjoys tripping innocent little angels," she told him. Dean glanced towards Balthazar and Custos. The two nodded, agreeing to Bella's story. Dean visibly relaxed and he muttered a grumbled apology to the demon before directing his gaze back to Gabriel to help the angel tie on a new worm. Kevin and Charlie rushed over, still tied together by the fishing line. They handed Balthazar his pole and the angel rushed up onto the dock to join his brothers. Bella followed, taking a seat next to Meg. Meg looked her over.
"Did you find anything?" she whispered. Bella shook her head.
"No, Balthazar flew in before I could do much though," she sighed. She glanced at the three angels Dean was currently showing how to cast. "There's something here, Meg, but it's really well hidden." Meg licked her lips and glared towards the house.
"Should we tell them?" she asked. Bella shook her head.
"This thing hasn't done anything yet. If we tell them anything or make whatever it is think we're planning something it might hurt them," Bella sighed. "We're better off keeping quiet. Like I said; the Winchesters can take care of themselves."
"I hope so," Meg sighed. Bella patted her on the back and the two stared out over the water silently. Their silence was broken however when Castiel let out a loud screech. They turned, seeing that Castiel, Balthazar, Gabriel, and Dean were all holding onto Cas' pole, trying to keep the angel and his pole from getting pulled into the water.
"Jesus!" Dean swore. "I think this fish is stronger than a fucking wendigo!" He glanced towards Bella and Meg. "Some super demon strength would be great right now, Ladies!" he called to them. Bella and Meg laughed and grabbed for the pole, pulling hard. The fish flew out of the water, whacking Dean in the face and landing in the angels' laps. The group stared at the fish, faces creased in tight frowns.
"You're not telling me that itty bitty croppy needed three angels, a hunter, and two demons to pull it out," Meg sputtered. The fish was barely bigger than her thumb. Dean shook his head and grabbed the fish, tossing it into the bucket with Gabe's fish.
"Only our lake would have fish with super strength," Dean muttered with a smirk on his lips. Dean grabbed Cas' pole and tied on another worm. Meg and Bella shuffled closer.
"Don't worry, Winchester," Meg cooed.
"If our angels nab another super minnow we'll keep you from going under," Bella finished. Dean rolled his eyes at them playfully; flicking them his middle finger before helping Cas cast his line back into the water.
Meg and Bella passed around hugs, saying their goodbyes to their friends. The sun was slowly setting behind them, marking the end of their last day with the Winchester family. It had ended well though. The fishing bucket was full of fish in the end, Sam and Bobby had managed to catch a fish or two with their net, and Kevin and Charlie found a way to get untangled from the mess of fishing line that seemed to stick to them like spider webs. Best of all, Bella and Meg got spend the day with their angels.
"I'll come straight to you guys if Crowley spills anything in hell about the other angels," Bella promised.
"Same here," Meg contributed. "If I'm going to be on the run I'm going to be useful. I'll hunt down your buddy Benny and Kali. I'm sure they'd like an extra hand in finding those angels." The Winchester's thanked them both and the angels gave each demon one more hug before finally pulling back. The two demons made their way down the driveway then. The group walked back into the house going to their rooms or going to the living room for a game of Nintendo.
When the hall was silent and empty a dark figure walked down it, walking to the window peaking outside. It watched the two demons as they left, sneering cruelly. It backed from the window when they were completely out of sight and stepped over to the blood spot for Balthazar's fall on the floor. The figure held a hand over the blood, muttering in an old language until a new voice whispered from the bubbling blood.
"Lord Crowley," it whispered. "I have some news of Bella Talbot and Meg for you. Miss Talbot is not the hard worker you've believed her to be…"
*Dramatic Music* There's a snitch in the house, but who could it be? ;)
