Cookies and Neighbors

"Samandriel, you're going to get a tummy ache," Keir tutted, taking the spoon from the angel. Samandriel let out a little squeak and reached for the cookie dough covered spoon with gooey hands.

"Mine!" he called, flexing his sticky fingers.

"Oh, Kier, give him the spoon," Amy scolded, while putting a tray of cookies into the oven. Kier raised a brow at his roommate, shaking his head.

"Amy, he's a baby. He can't eat all that!" Amy rolled her eyes at him and pulled the spoon from his hands before handing it back to Samandriel. The angel squealed with glee and stuffed the entire spoon into his mouth. Instead of nibbling on the dough coating the spoon though, the angel just chewed at the hard wood. Amy grinned at the sight and jabbed Kieren in the ribs.

"See? He just wanted to chew on something." Amy stroked her fingers through Samandriel's hair. "Poor baby must have new teeth coming in." Kier flinched guiltily and kissed the little angel on the forehead.

"I'm sorry, Elly," Kier whispered against the baby angel's forehead. "I'll pick up some toys for you to chew on later, okay?" Samandriel bopped Kieren on the nose with his pudgy fingers in answer and the young man grinned.

Kieren and Amy got back to work then, scooping out some more cookie dough onto trays and putting them in the oven. They were so engrossed in their work they hardly noticed someone ringing the doorbell. Luckily, Samandriel liked the sound and loved to echo it whenever it went off.

"Ding! Ding!" Samandriel cried around the wooden spoon stuffed in his mouth.

"Simon, can you get that?" Kieren called as he and Amy started on a new batch of dough. They were all out of chocolate chips so peanut butter would have to do.

Rustling could be heard from the living room as Simon set down whatever book he'd been engrossed in and shuffled towards the door.

"Hey, guys!" Kieren and Amy heard their friend shout from the other room. "Sam and Dean send you?" Samandriel's eyes widened at that and he looked towards the doorway leading to the other room. He flapped his wings hard like he wanted to fly over. "Kier! Amy! The ang…er kids are here!" Simon called. Amy and Kieren both wiped their hands on their aprons and Kieren picked up Samandriel, draping an over-sized sweater over the angel so his wings were hidden. There had to be somebody else present if Simon was so quick to stop himself from saying anything about angels.

The three stuck their heads out of the doorway to the kitchen, grinning at the four angels.

"Welcome back, cuties!" Amy called. She rushed into the living room and scooped all four angels up into her arms for a giant hug. Kieren followed behind and set Samandriel on the floor so he could hug his brothers too.

"Luci!" Samandriel squealed at seeing the archangel with Gabriel, Balthazar, and Castiel.

"Hi," Lucifer greeted, giving Samandriel and extra hug. He and Alfie hadn't seen each other since the Christmas party after all.

The stranger with the angels stepped forth then, holding a hand out to the three.

"Hello, I'm Mrs. Wellington. I'm the one that sold Sam and Dean the house across the street." Simon, Kieren, and Amy's eyes widened at the mention of the house. They had been terrified on waking up to Samandriel screaming. They had fallen asleep on the couches while watching Netflix, but Samandriel had still been awake. If he hadn't the three wouldn't have woken up and called in the fire fighters and ambulance. By the time they made it outside though, the fires had disappeared and the family within was struggling outside, carrying a passed out Cas, Balthazar, and Dean Winchester.

"Samsquatch and Dean-O are talking to the contractors about fixing our house," Gabriel explained, breaking the three from their thoughts on the horrible night filled with fire and smoke.

"That's good," Simon commented. "We've been missing you guys." Simon lifted his head, sniffing at the air lightly. He cringed. "Ugh, what's that smell?" Kieren and Amy sniffed too, eyes widening when they realized what it was making the terrible smell.

"The cookies!" they screamed, dashing into the kitchen.

"Cookies?" Castiel questioned. Simon grinned at him.

"Yep, Kieren and Amy have been at it all morning," Simon stated.

"Me too!" Samandriel shouted, shaking the wooden spoon still in his hands. A laugh bubbled past Simon's lips and he quickly corrected himself before lifting Samandriel into his arms.

"You guys want to help? I'm sure they'll be happy to have an extra set of hands." The angels each nodded enthusiastically and Simon led the group into the kitchen.

Smoke was pooling out from the oven and a tray of burnt chocolate chip cookies were thrown on the counter when the group walked in. Kieren beat at the smoke with a towel, trying to fan the dark clouds away from the fire detector. Amy stood by with a fire extinguisher.

"Oh my," Mrs. Wellington gasped. "Balthazar, can you crack a window open dearie?" Balthazar nodded and rushed over to the only window in the room, opening it up. The smoke instantly curled towards the window escaping through it and into the summer air.

"Thank goodness," Kieren sighed, slumping against the counter. Amy set the extinguisher down and glared at the chocolate chip cookies that looked more like hockey pucks.

"What a waste of good cookie dough," she grumbled with disappointment. It didn't last too long though. She perked back up quickly, grinning at the bowl of peanut butter dough. "At least we can still make peanut butter cookies!" She grinned at the group now gathered in the kitchen. "Want to help?" Then angels each shouted in unison and both Kieren and Simon grabbed several aprons from a closet nearby, helping the angels into them.

"Alright!" Kieren shouted, setting the bowl of dough in front of the angels and Mrs. Wellington. "Let's get baking!"

Everyone reached into the bowl and grabbed a handful of cookie dough. They rolled them up into small balls and set them down on the cookie tray when finished. Lucifer and Gabriel both would roll one up for the tray and then make another one to plop into their mouths. Kieren scolded them for eating the raw dough, but that hardly stopped the angels.

"So, Mrs. Wellington," Simon addressed. "You owned the house across the street?" Mrs. Wellington paused in forming a ball and looked up at the young man.

"It was my son's home," she explained. "It had been empty since he and his children were killed in a car crash a few years back." Simon flinched.

"I'm so sorry," he apologized. Mrs. Wellington shook her head.

"It's fine," she sighed. She set the cookie she'd been rolling onto the tray.

"What was your son like?" Castiel asked innocently. Mrs. Wellington grinned a little, shaking her head.

"Strange," she answered. "He was always reading these old dusty books he kept in the attic of his house and talking nonsense. Honestly, I don't know how his wife managed listening to him babble about his books. Well, I suppose she didn't have to manage for long."

"Oh gosh," Amy gasped, clinging to Kieren. "The crash must have been terrible for her." Mrs. Wellington shook her head and started on another cookie.

"Oh no. She died during childbirth. My son and his children died 10 years after." The room grew silent and Simon quickly cleared his throat.

"Come, come. Let's not talk about sad things like this," Simon prompted, patting Mrs. Wellington on the shoulder before looking to the angels. "So have you three found any new friends lately?" The angels shook their heads sadly.

"We haven't since the fire," Balthazar explained. "We've mostly stayed put at Jody's since Cassie, Dean, and I were still a little wobbly on our feet."

"Well, we're glad you guys are okay," Kieren stated, taking the now full tray towards the oven. "I wish these were done so we could eat them now." The group laughed at him and Kieren pushed the tray into the oven, making sure to set the timer this time. "There." Kieren spun around and glared the messy kitchen. "Now for the really fun part."

Simon dropped a kiss onto Kieren's cheek and grabbed a washcloth from the sink.

"Oh, come on, Kier," Simon teased. "It'll make the wait less." Simon tossed a few towels to the others and everyone started scrubbing away the dough, flour, egg slime, and other stuff cluttering up the kitchen.

Eventually, the timer buzzed and Amy opened the door to reveal the sweet smell of peanut butter cookies. Everyone crowded around the tray, not caring how hot the cookies were. They all grabbed a handful, nibbling at the sugary goodness. Lucifer and Samandriel seemed to enjoy the sugary treats the most. The two stuffed cookie after cookie into their mouths until their cheeks were puffed up like a chipmunk's. Amy got them both some milk to help wash down the six cookies shoved in their mouths. Instead of drinking it however, Samandriel dumped his mug over and chewed at the handle.

"Clean up in aisle angel," Amy called to her roommates with a moan. Kieren and Simon grabbed a roll of paper towels from the counter and approached the teething baby that had not only gotten himself soaked in milk and cookie crumbs, but also Lucifer, Gabriel, Balthazar, and Castiel. Simon tried to pull the mug from Samandriel's grip, but the angel held on tight.

"We really need to get him some toys," Simon groaned, giving up on pulling the mug from the surprisingly strong angel.

"Nah," Gabriel commented. "You just have to make a trade." Gabriel held out the wooden spoon from before, waving it at the milk soiled angel. Samandriel's eyes widened and he dropped the mug. Kieren dashed to grab it before it could shatter on the floor, slipping on the milk that dribbled onto the floor and flying into the broom closet. Kieren poked his head out in time to see Samandriel take the spoon from Gabriel and start to aggressively chew on it. The mop in the closet fell onto Kieren's head then and the young man let out a grunt. Simon and Amy laughed at him, both helping him out of the closet.

"Good idea, Kier," Amy chuckled. "You should really mop the floor." Kieren rolled his eyes at her, but was all smiles.

The doorbell went off for the second time that day and Samandriel mimicked the dinging sound. His brothers joined him, causing the baby angel to squeal with delight. Kieren walked out of the kitchen and opened the front door, revealing a very tired looking Sam and Dean. The two hunters looked him over, taking in the cookie crumbs and milk splattered all over his clothes.

"I take it they behaved themselves?" Dean commented with a toothy smirk. Kieren rolled his eyes and stepped to the side. The hunters stepped over the threshold and Kieren led them to their messy angels.

Happy 4th of July!
