Playground Safety
Sam and Kevin sat together on a bright green bench. A little ways ahead of them was a playground complete with a slide, merry go round, swing set, and giant sandbox. There weren't any kids around other than the hunter and prophet's wee angels. That's why Gabriel, Castiel, and Balthazar ran around the playground with their wings stretched wide. It worried Sam, but Gabriel could always hide the wings with his grace if anybody suddenly showed up.
"Sam, Kevin!" Castiel called from the merry go round. "Look how fast we're going!"
"Looks fun, Cas, just be careful!" Sam called out, watching as Gabriel and Balthazar pushed the merry go round. Cas was seated in the center of it and the two were pushing it as fast as they could. Sam knew how fun those things could be, but he also remembered how dangerous they were too. He had plenty of memories of Dean pushing him too hard on them and flying off into the woodchips covering the surface of the playground. It wasn't the best way to get a splinter.
"You worry too much," Kevin chuckled as he watched the angels play.
"You get on a merry go round with Dean and then tell me that," the hunter huffed, crossing his arms. Kevin belted out a laugh.
"Okay, I guess I'd be a little weary around them too then, but I wouldn't be a mother hen like you."
"I'm not a mother hen," Sam argued.
"Yes you are."
"No I'm not."
"Yes you –"
"Gabby! Balthy!" Cas screamed suddenly. Kevin and Sam looked up just in time to see Cas get hurled off the merry go round. The angel spread his wings, trying to slow his fall or fly away from the ground, but he wasn't fast enough. Cas was thrown into the sandbox with a loud whap and a cloud of sand washed over him.
"Cas!" Sam and Kevin cried at once, racing from the bench and to the giant sandbox. Balthazar and Gabriel met them there and they started digging through the sand, searching for the angel within.
Cas popped his head up out of the sand and shook the gritty little rocks from his hair.
"That was unpleasant," he commented as Sam pulled him from the box of sand. He looked the angel over, only finding a small purple and blue bump on the angel's head.
"I'm going to let you be the one that explains that to papa bear," Kevin commented, letting out a low whistle as he stared at the bruise. Sam gave Kevin a glare and then another to the angels sitting on the edge of the sandbox.
"I'm okay," Cas reassured, pulling out of Sam's arms. He winced as he touched his bruise and both of his brothers flinched in sympathy.
"Sorry, Cassie," both said guiltily. Cas waved them off and ran back towards the merry go round, spinning it a few times before hopping back on.
"Let's do it again!" Sam's eyes widened. He was sure the angel was going to be the death of him. He got up from the ground and grabbed Cas before the angel could went around the merry go round for a second loop.
"Let's find something safer to do," Sam suggested. "Something that won't result in a head injury." He looked around, eyes landing on a bright red slide. "How about that?" He carried Cas over to the slide and plopped the angel down on the top. Gabriel and Balthazar climbed up behind their brother and slid down together only to be caught at the end by Kevin. The angels cheered and scrambled back to Sam to go again. They slid down, but this time Gabriel decided he'd stand up instead of sit. Sam barked at the archangel to sit, but Gabriel didn't listen. He slid down the slide like that until Kevin caught them.
"Again!" the angels shouted.
"How about the swing set," Sam offered, hoping to save his blood pressure from sky rocketing any higher than it had already. One day. That was all he asked for; one day that no one got hurt and everything was danger free.
The angels tottered over to the swing set without argument and hopped up onto the seats with a little help. They grabbed the chains and Kevin and Sam took turns pushing each angel until they all flew to a fair height.
"Flying machines for children…how clever," Cas hummed as he pumped his feet forward and back.
"They're just swings, bro," Gabriel hummed, rolling his eyes at his brother.
"Yes, but they allow you to fly without the need of wings or a plane."
"Now I see why Dean never liked swing sets," Sam realized as he pushed Balthazar. "He hates anything that deals with flying."
"Ugh," Kevin groaned, pushing Cas with one hand and Gabe with the other. "Remember our trip to Europe? I had to sit with him on the plane there. "The guy was giving me a panic attack!" The five laughed until a loud honking sound blared from the road. The five turned their heads, watching as a black impala rolled towards the parking lot.
"Well, speak of the devil," Sam huffed, waving at his brother.
Dean pulled up in the parking lot next to the playground. He got out of the Impala and opened the back door, picking up Lucifer and a bag of KFC. Mouths watered at the sight and soon the baby archangel and hunter were surrounded by a hungry prophet, hunter, and three angels.
"I take it you five worked up an appetite," Dean laughed, setting Lucifer and the bag of food down on a nearby park table. He started taking everything out of the bag, pulling out the boxes holding creamy mac and cheese, buns, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and the greasiest bucket of chicken he could get his hands on. Lucifer fished out the paper plates from the bag, handing everyone one or two stuck together. Dean dished out the food, filling everyone's plate until he got to Cas. His eyes locked onto the bruise decorating his angel's forehead. "What the hell is that?" he questioned, eyes burning. Sam, Gabriel, and Balthazar gulped nervously as the hunter's eyes slowly snapped towards the three of them. Kevin just reached past Dean and took a bun from the box. He walked towards a park table on the other side of the park then, waving a hand in farewell to the others.
"I'll leave you to deal with papa bear," Kevin called over his shoulder before biting into his bun. Mama hen was bad enough to deal with. Papa bear was on a level all his own.
ATTENTION! IMPORTANT NOTE:
So, I'm planning on sending the guys to Japan to find their next international baby angel. The only problem is…I know nothing about the place, but I'm stubborn and refuse to scrap the idea. If any of you out there live or have lived in Japan before and would like to help me out, send me a PM or a message on Twitter or Tumblr (links are on my profile). If I can't get any help I'll just wing it and pray I don't screw up. Thanks for your assistance.
